@@recon1673 TBF scratches on a painted mild steel car are only worrisome because they eventually lead to clearcoat failure and rust. When the material is fully exposed to start with you can proudly display those scratches like battle scars as they won't affect the future integrity of the bodywork.

The old cars up to 1976 used to be made of steel (like Tesla Cybertruck) , they lasts better - but the people inside don’t. When a car takes an impact - the speed has to drop from (say) 40mph to ZERO within the distance by which it crumples. So if you have a big old chunky piece of iron - the front bumper might bend by a tenth of an inch and aside from some scuff marks on that shiney chrome - will basically be completely unscathed. A modern car will probably crush a foot or more - the engine may get pushed down under the driver’s feet into the ground. It will be a total wreck. However, if the modern car crushes 12 inches instead of a tenth of an inch…120 times more than the old car…then the deceleration rate will be 120 times less - and the force of the impact will also be 120 times less (Because ‘F=ma’ - force equals mass times acceleration). So in a steel car - you die a horrible death as your internal organs smack into your rib cage and your brain hits the front of your skull. The car is more or less OK - so the new owner wipes off the worst of the blood splatter and is impressed at how the car survived the impact. In today new car ( besides Tesla Cybertruck) - you climb out of the twisted wreck with some bruises and a sprained ankle - and spend the next month bitching about how modern cars can’t survive accidents as well. Today’s cars are engineered to absorb energy in a crash; instead of going from 40-0 in an instant, the car’s front end collapses slowing the car down a little at a time while the passenger compartment is designed to divert energy around the passengers to the rear, engines break downwards instead of into the front occupant’s lap, it’s steering column buckles instead of transferring energy into the driver’s chest. It can mean walking away from a car accident verses a long hospital stay, or a long hospital stay verses a quick trip to the morgue. Vehicles with today’s modern safety tech is designed to sacrifice itself to prevent human suffering. Todays cars even have provisions to protect pedestrians that are hit by a car, there’s a certain amount of space required between the hood and any engine parts. Europe now has a standard regarding pieces extruding past body panels because it could rip a pedestrian’s legs off.
@ac4792 - You're not making any sense here, mate. Tesla cars, including Cybertruck, don't just meet the required safety criteria, they exceed them. Cybertruck has been through the same independent crash testing as every other car certified for road use. And, strictly speaking, crumple zones were only a small part of cars evolving to be safer. Airbags and seat belts have also contributed significantly. All of which Cybertruck has.

You want a good sum up of my general issue with Tesla products just watch at 6:00. Can't find the spot buried in a touch screen menu so we have to go to voice activation to OPEN THE GLOVE BOX. Then the voice activation doesn't work to close it, but you shouldn't be doing anything other than yanking a handle in the forst place. Bolting a computer to something doesn't automatically make it better.
Couple questions. 1. How is the sound system 2. Are there auxiliary switches 3. Option for step up or amp steps? 4. Center caps option if removing wheel covers? How many adjustments are on the driver seat? Did to bolster adjust Great review!

I was very sceptic about the lack of a speedometer behind the steering wheel when I bought my Model 3 a year ago, but after a few days I was already accustomed to having the speedometer to the right of the steering wheel. Having to look to the right instead of down feels a bit odd at first, but it's just a different "muscle memory" with the exact same result when you're used to it. It's also not as if Tesla is reinventing the wheel here; there have been a bunch of cars that had their speedometer in the center of the dash like the Toyota Prius and some cars from Fiat.

Because a car can be slow as fuck and still have bad range and the car isn’t out yet so we wouldn’t know how long the battery lasts and Tesla would never give an accurate quote for these kind of things

@feklar3470 You have to consider that you don't get that until you file your taxes. With the Cyberbeast, you get no tax credit so stating it costs $96k is 100% wrong. You're still paying $100k with no benefit other than not needing gas or other ICE related services. But then, that's only a very small amount that does add up but over a long time.
6:40 the headrest protruding is how it's supposed to be, but people set them up wrong. It protects your neck in the event of a rear end collision. If you look at the video, you can see the headrest lines up with the head perfectly to support it so the neck doesn't bend/whiplash
Yep, it’s also why most people have a huge space between their head and the headrest. Car seats were design poorly back in the days and the proper ones look/feel weird now :)
I think F90 M5 and same generation E63s had quarter mile time of 11.1 -11.2 seconds. It's unreal that this pick up truck is capable of that being on those kind of tires.

This vehicle is yet more proof that the transition to electric vehicles will undoubtedly go down in history as the greatest missed opportunity to save the planet which mankind ever created. The 'missed opportunity' was weaning people off 2-3000kg SUVs and van-sized 'family vehicles' and reverting to the smaller and lighter cars of, say, the late 1970s. The very best 'modern' cars in terms of economy were probably the VW Lupo 3L/Audi A2 (both about 900kg), surely benchmark vehicles which would set the trend for fuel economy, but no - cars became excessively larger and heavier, with willing buyers wanting to boost their egos and 'keeping up with the Jones'. What we see now is with electric vehicles is the addition of another half ton of range-sapping energy-wasting weight to already grossly oversized personal transport. 2700kg Range Rover for the school run anybody?
Aye the bodywork is 300 series stainless steel, it's nothing new and space age like Electric Jesus would have you believe. Of course you can form it by bending. The marketing bullshit from Tesla is off the charts. But if you want a fast pickup that looks like a kid drew it then this is gold.
Very few will be registering it because: 1. It's really ugly (inside and outside) 2. Poor build quality 3. Almost no offroad capability... couldn't even clear a pavement without getting stuck🤣 4. Resale value on electric vehicles is horrendous, if you find someone who wants to buy it at all.
Go to your local Chevy or Ford dealer and see what a mid range new pickup is....125k. 95k for fleet trucks. Insane. That being said, there are some nice aftermarket HUDs for Tesla vehicles and would be the first thing I got for it. And ppl who are talking about the pre production build quality I hope hold McLaren to the same standards...Hand made cars are different.

@sandorbence2067 It was supposed to be released in Nov 2021. Its 2 years late. Which is decent considering the factory construction was delayed by Covid. Also, there really are only 2 other EV trucks on the market in the Rivian and F150 Lightning. Thr Hummer sells a couple hundred a quarter and is irrelevant. The Ram and GMC are not out yet. The Rivian and Lightning are still relitively low volumes. So timing is not too bad.

Very heavily would depend on the speed that you drive it. It's a truck, so air resistance is much worse than Model 3 or S. So speed will affect range a lot more.
That's pretty cool that a kick or shopping cart won't damage it but a 4,000 lb. vehicle hitting it sure will. And then the truck is totaled because you can't repair a dent in stainless. I guess we will see some wrapped or painted like with DeLorean's where they got a ding or scratch. Replacing those stainless panels if possible has to be ludacrious expensive.
4:30 but you only do this once for each person. It then saves it to your personal profile and when you get in the car using phone as key, it automatically detects it's you and sets everything to how you like it. Set and forget.
Another correction: The comment you made about thinner wires for less weight applies more to the new "low-voltage" 48V system (replacing 12V system), not the 800V high-voltage system used by the drivetrain, which is 2x as much as the previous. Of course both changes help, but the low-voltage system uses literally miles of wire, so the 4x voltage increase makes a bigger difference.

The 48V system was so important of a step, Elon sent the "how to" guide to every other auto manufacturer's CEO. BMW has wanted a 48V for over two decades now but could never pull it off.

The problem is that Tesla built its lineup on debt, credit and investments. As a result, they're not actually that nice to drive. They're just an ideology. I think other manufacturers build better electric trucks. But many of them also needed credit and debt. Except for Ford. I've never tried the f150 lightening, but there is something to be said for pure market success.
Lol the cope is real with you. All of their vehicles have broken the safety test records. Their tech and batteries are so damn far ahead of any other manufacturers, and they give it to you at a fraction of the cost! They have also been sharing a lot of their tech and discoveries with other electric car manufacturers for free, so that more EVs can get on the road to help the planet.
Whoops, 48 volt low-voltage architecture for thinner wires (at 17min). 800v is the high-voltage architecture. It is a BUY from me but I need a RHD version, which hopefully should be easier with the steer-by-wire technology. Great review!
Higher voltage allows for the same power with less amps. Wire thickness is proportional to the amps (current) so the higher the voltage the thinner the wires you need. 12 v to 48 v and 400v to 800v, it's thinner wires all round. Check how thick the wire is on your ICE starter motor, it's 12 v but needs a lot of power.
I'm convinced Tesla only let reviewers have them if they promise to only say good things. Right after payload he goes to the frunk and says it's quite large. It's clearly the smallest frunk of any ev truck. He loves that you can open it through the touch panel... Just like the Rivian.

If i'm being honest, those little details are things that matter most about driver, passenger and pedestrian safety. For instance: 1. The rear view mirror/camera issue. 2. The sharp edges and rigid body. It's instant death for anyone it hits by the edge at high speed.
For every truck. Ct has lower hood which makes it safer for the upper body compared to other trucks. Only hitting the corner at lower speeds can be more ugly than it otherwise could've been.
Don’t act like there isn’t lifted diesel truck on the streets looking like a monster truck. Also don’t act like there aren’t work trucks with huge boxes and campers that completely block those mirrors.
Surprised you didn't test it being keyed. Some people have a thing for keying cars, wish I'd caught the person who did it to my car. Edit: the key will most likely be a softer metal so have the same effect as a crayon.
You would probably ruin your key. Stainless steel is way harder than a metal of which most keys are made of. The keying only works cuz the paint is scratched. No paint no problem.

Todays cars even have provisions to protect pedestrians that are hit by a car, there’s a certain amount of space required between the hood and any engine parts. Europe now has a standard regarding pieces extruding past body panels because it could rip a pedestrian’s legs off.
Tesla cybertruck has crumple zones? It isn't a solid piece of steel, the front does absolutely crumple.

@ac4792 - You're not making any sense here, mate. Tesla cars, including Cybertruck, don't just meet the required safety criteria, they exceed them. Cybertruck has been through the same independent crash testing as every other car certified for road use. And, strictly speaking, crumple zones were only a small part of cars evolving to be safer. Airbags and seat belts have also contributed significantly. All of which Cybertruck has.

Can't find the spot buried in a touch screen menu so we have to go to voice activation to OPEN THE GLOVE BOX. Then the voice activation doesn't work to close it, but you shouldn't be doing anything other than yanking a handle in the forst place. Bolting a computer to something doesn't automatically make it better.
Couple questions.
1. How is the sound system
2. Are there auxiliary switches
3. Option for step up or amp steps?
4. Center caps option if removing wheel covers?
How many adjustments are on the driver seat? Did to bolster adjust

You'll get used to it within days and not want to go back. Most people wanted physical keyboards on their phones when the iPhone came out, now imagine going back to a blackberry type phone...
Also, I think a lot of people's hesitancy comes from the terrible software other cars have. With Tesla it just works.

You’re totally right on the HUD, if Tesla wanted, they could have invented a next gen heads up display that truly made this truck like Bladerunner. Shame.
I was very sceptic about the lack of a speedometer behind the steering wheel when I bought my Model 3 a year ago, but after a few days I was already accustomed to having the speedometer to the right of the steering wheel. Having to look to the right instead of down feels a bit odd at first, but it's just a different "muscle memory" with the exact same result when you're used to it. It's also not as if Tesla is reinventing the wheel here; there have been a bunch of cars that had their speedometer in the center of the dash like the Toyota Prius and some cars from Fiat.

Because a car can be slow as fuck and still have bad range and the car isn’t out yet so we wouldn’t know how long the battery lasts and Tesla would never give an accurate quote for these kind of things

6:40 the headrest protruding is how it's supposed to be, but people set them up wrong. It protects your neck in the event of a rear end collision. If you look at the video, you can see the headrest lines up with the head perfectly to support it so the neck doesn't bend/whiplash
Yep, it’s also why most people have a huge space between their head and the headrest. Car seats were design poorly back in the days and the proper ones look/feel weird now :)

This vehicle is yet more proof that the transition to electric vehicles will undoubtedly go down in history as the greatest missed opportunity to save the planet which mankind ever created.
The 'missed opportunity' was weaning people off 2-3000kg SUVs and van-sized 'family vehicles' and reverting to the smaller and lighter cars of, say, the late 1970s.
The very best 'modern' cars in terms of economy were probably the VW Lupo 3L/Audi A2 (both about 900kg), surely benchmark vehicles which would set the trend for fuel economy, but no - cars became excessively larger and heavier, with willing buyers wanting to boost their egos and 'keeping up with the Jones'. What we see now is with electric vehicles is the addition of another half ton of range-sapping energy-wasting weight to already grossly oversized personal transport.

Also, there really are only 2 other EV trucks on the market in the Rivian and F150 Lightning. Thr Hummer sells a couple hundred a quarter and is irrelevant. The Ram and GMC are not out yet. The Rivian and Lightning are still relitively low volumes. So timing is not too bad.

Very heavily would depend on the speed that you drive it. It's a truck, so air resistance is much worse than Model 3 or S. So speed will affect range a lot more.
That's pretty cool that a kick or shopping cart won't damage it but a 4,000 lb. vehicle hitting it sure will. And then the truck is totaled because you can't repair a dent in stainless. I guess we will see some wrapped or painted like with DeLorean's where they got a ding or scratch. Replacing those stainless panels if possible has to be ludacrious expensive.
4:30 but you only do this once for each person. It then saves it to your personal profile and when you get in the car using phone as key, it automatically detects it's you and sets everything to how you like it. Set and forget.
Another correction: The comment you made about thinner wires for less weight applies more to the new "low-voltage" 48V system (replacing 12V system), not the 800V high-voltage system used by the drivetrain, which is 2x as much as the previous. Of course both changes help, but the low-voltage system uses literally miles of wire, so the 4x voltage increase makes a bigger difference.

The 48V system was so important of a step, Elon sent the "how to" guide to every other auto manufacturer's CEO. BMW has wanted a 48V for over two decades now but could never pull it off.

The problem is that Tesla built its lineup on debt, credit and investments. As a result, they're not actually that nice to drive. They're just an ideology. I think other manufacturers build better electric trucks. But many of them also needed credit and debt. Except for Ford. I've never tried the f150 lightening, but there is something to be said for pure market success.

I think Mat confused the 800V high voltage system with the 48V low voltage system when talking about thinner wires.

Both the high voltage and low voltage wires are thinner.
48V refers to the low voltage architecture for the vehicle. 800v is the of course high voltage system, meaning the battery pack and what it powers.
800v is also thinner than 400v
Higher voltage allows for the same power with less amps. Wire thickness is proportional to the amps (current) so the higher the voltage the thinner the wires you need. 12 v to 48 v and 400v to 800v, it's thinner wires all round.
Check how thick the wire is on your ICE starter motor, it's 12 v but needs a lot of power.

I'm convinced Tesla only let reviewers have them if they promise to only say good things. Right after payload he goes to the frunk and says it's quite large. It's clearly the smallest frunk of any ev truck. He loves that you can open it through the touch panel... Just like the Rivian.

What will the auto Industry's answer to this one be? Especially if (as I believe) it will be a huge seller. The comment about pedestrian safety - it isn't how hard the material is, it is how the impact deflects the person. also all the assistive tech is what makes it safer for pedestrians. I am pretty sure an F-150 would be just as devastating to a hapless person in the road where they shouldn't be (In America).

He should have added: "and kill everyone else" but I wonder how it fairs for the passengers of the cybertruck anyway because modern car safety is a lot about absorbing the shocks and does this car absorb shocks in some ways?
@inebium Tesla is known to be one of, if not the best, cars for safety. I would feel completely safe in that beast like most people do in other trucks.

If i'm being honest, those little details are things that matter most about driver, passenger and pedestrian safety.
For instance:
1. The rear view mirror/camera issue.
2. The sharp edges and rigid body. It's instant death for anyone it hits by the edge at high speed.

For every truck. Ct has lower hood which makes it safer for the upper body compared to other trucks.
Only hitting the corner at lower speeds can be more ugly than it otherwise could've been.

Surprised you didn't test it being keyed. Some people have a thing for keying cars, wish I'd caught the person who did it to my car. Edit: the key will most likely be a softer metal so have the same effect as a crayon.

You would probably ruin your key. Stainless steel is way harder than a metal of which most keys are made of. The keying only works cuz the paint is scratched. No paint no problem.

@@davidburton3447 Stainless steel has a rockwell b coefficient of 70 while brass has 55. So yeah you would scratch your key.
Am I correct in thinking that is only the second production vehicle to have a stainless steel body...? The only other I can think of was the ill-fated and woefully flawed "DeLorean ".. Hope this amazingly distinctive venture from Tesla, has a better future..!

its not a bottle opener..that just the way it locks using 2 tabs. How exactly would you use it without pouring your beer down the hole after it the top is removed?
They have a bottle opener that fits into the rail system of the bed for sale as an accessory for like 25 bucks
No other car review video ever started with some solidly built people kicking the car as hard as they can.
but there is a DRZ 400 video where the reviewer kicks it across the parking lot.
Built with stainless steel, they couldn't dent it with their kicks. Unique car. Interior is beautiful, touch screen to open the bonnet. It's a nice car.
