@memyselfundeye this is really bad. Warranty is supposed to cover owners in just something like this happens. This is not just the fault of fisker but the government as well. Preventive measures were supposed to be in place before they could release their car to owners. I feel terrible for fisker owners.
That EV range is really impressive and the California Mode looks like a lot of fun which is lacking in so many crossovers. Remember folks, don't let your wife be the CFO and lose the money that customers are paying you!!!
It’s really fortunate for VW they launch iD vehicles during covid and the shortages that came with it. Most of the issue Fisker Ocean has is what 2021 VW iD4 had until 2023.
The guy is putting the FOB on the RIGHT side of the steering column to demonstate how the NFC reader doesn't work. It is on the LEFT side, there is an obvious icon. Another person has already pointed this out. If your fob battery dies, you just swipe it on the driver door handle and tap it to the NFC reader. JUST LIKE A TESLA.... This review is a bit embellished to put it mildly. Yes the depreciation is bad, but buying a used one now may give you a high end EV with class leading range for the lowest price possible. Yes, it could be a gamble. Got one for $38k, so far no issues and >5k miles.
Its also flat out lazy. Marques was the original negative nelly because he was too cool to read the basic operating instructions and then complained about car not going into gear when his SEATBELT was not fastened , and also did the wrong location with NFC reader.
@@memyselfundeye But.. why does the car key need to have an NFC reader? I don't understand. Any modern car with a fob will light the ignition if the key is anywhere in the cabin - why does a wireless FOB need to go to a specific place? Yes, maybe they are using it wrong, but this also seems like a design choice in search of a problem?
@ its a low frequency short range NFC so as not to interfere or be interfered with from other nfc sources. Think luggage tags, pet collars, certain shopping items, etc.
Once everyone saw they could get views by trashing the self proclaimed Tesla contender... Everyone jumped on the bandwagon before the car even had the chance to complete their OTA rollouts with the remaining features. Now they come back and complain that the 70k review vehicle didn't get the updates from the company they helped sink.
I owe one and don’t have most of mentioned software issues. Maybe it’s because I got car with 2.1 software already. For me personally, the problems are: 1) daily battery drain is about 1,5% (seems to have been fixed in 2.2) 2) car rolls back until we enter hold mode (seems to have been fixed in 2.2) 3) annoying speed limit assistance and lane departure assistance which I have to turn off every time 4) no Android Auto / CarPlay 5) no top view 360 cameras 6) no adaptive cruise 7) engine imitation sound is a bit annoying, no possibility to change or turn off As far as FOA took control over OTA I hope they fix some of these problems in future. And I still didn’t get 2.2, hope to aquire it soon Positives for me are: 1) cool look; 2) very comfort suspension 3) very comfort seats 4) long range
Fisker and his wife treated their Employee like garbage. He made his wife who has no exp CFO of a car company and she used to harass and yell at employees constantly. Go read some of the employee reviews in forums..
Lindholm bil in Viborg in Denmark actually still sell Fisker Ocean , they provide 3 years fully guarantee and leasing via their own bank. Even rather cheap insurance. I think you should contact the company and ask how they do Lindholm TV can be seen on RUclips
The 2.2 software release fixed many of the issues including FOB performance and bluetooth connectivity. It also added duel-axle regen for much smoother braking. I wonder why they didn't mention that at all.
I waited 19 years 10:00 after the start of my EV manufacturer to buy one of their EVs. Even though I bought the first year of my model launch, the companies history convinced me it was a fair gamble. Nonetheless my current depreciation is around 35%, still better than the US average 50% first year EV ownership depreciation rate.
From what I know the SW updates (though not many) beyond 2.2 shall be provided by FOA & AM LEASE. Also, Android auto/car play, one pedal drive along some improvements are planned.
Maybe if this same guy wasn't on the troll bandwagon prematurely helping to sink car before the planned software rollouts even saw the light of day... They wouldn't have been sitting with a 70 K test vehicle with no future options.
I was of the few who was able to drive the car at launch in Canada, I really liked it, it was an impressive feat of engineering. I didn't notice any bugs during my short test-drive. I almost bought it until I saw everything going downhill. Truly sad, I had high hope for it. Even the pear seemed like an incredible model.
5:00 - I've worked at a hardware store for 5 years, and replace batteries for customer's key fobs constantly. Absolutely wild this thing is eating batteries that rapidly.
It's pretty interesting seeing people with some credibility reviewing a car without even basic knowledge of its features or design choices. This review is as lame as the one made by MKBHD. When the car can detect your key fob, it's because its battery is too low. In this case, you have to HOLD the key fob near the NFC reader on the lower LEFT side of the panel. Also, the sad theatrical play where the reviewer is unable to shift is caused because the seatbelt is not buckled up - and the car did not detect a key, which is what you expect it to do. The Ocean cannot be driven without the seat belt. It will also constantly chime is a passenger is unbuckled. The infotainment is not lagging anywhere close to was is depicted. It's actually faster than many recent EVs I tested lately, including the Mach-E, the Tesla M3. Their implementation of one-pedal driving mode with 3 levels of regen is available - it's perfectible but it's good enough to seldomly use the brake pedal. For the "lane centering", the car does have "lane keeping" where it will chime upon leaving your track and the steering will correct your trajectory. The Ocean is far from perfect. The latest 2.2 software is a serious leap forward but still has quirks. Meanwhile, for the price to get one today, it's a seriously nice ride. Overall, this is a sad, biased and deceptive review. When you review cars and want to show some credibility, just at least RTFM.
I wouldn't put down a deposit....but Rivian is in better shape financially since bigger companies own slices of it. Just wait for the R2 to come out, let them work out the bugs for a year or two and then buy one.
I'm one of about 10 people to ever buy the key fob for their model 3, wanna know what said keyfob does consistently? It works, it works so well i don't even know where to tap it or the access card if the battery were to die.
Best thing you can do it break it up for parts for sale or donation to a college building project cars, but keep the seats to turn into office furniture.
Too bad about Fisker. I have been following this car because I liked its design, innovations, and the directions it was going in. They just were not able to move quick enough to catch the EV wave at its peak and survive long enough to become profitable. Maybe someone else will take over and make it so.
@@djplonghead5403Actually, they needed a completely different management team. Fisker knows nothing about running a company. I wouldn't trust him and his wife with a lemonade stand.
Same. I used to give the owners a thumbs up because it's cool they bought something unusual and new. Now when I see the owners driving around, I avert my eyes lest they think I am looking at them feeling bad for them.
This was one of those cars with so much showroom appeal in the form of “California mode” and the built in trays. Then you own it and see how maddening and incomplete the product is for day-to-day use.
It's clear that they were desperate for funds and prematurely released the product in hopes to build enough money to OTA the fixes later. I work for an OEM and the state they released it is the state of when my company builds very first prototypes when everything is buggy and barely works. But obviously OEMs don't release vehicles in this state to the public and over time things get fixed and tuned to a finished product.
I wanted this car so badly, and was dead set on getting one, BUT only as a lease for this exact reason. Which is probably why the never offered a lease, they knew they’d be liable
This is a perfect glimpse into the future of used vehicle buying. Every junk EV that you try to buy used will be considered "obsolete" by the manufacturer, unserviceable and unreliable.
The most ridiculous thing about this is that car companies seem to think $70,000 is affordable. The overwhelming majority of people can never afford something like this. According to nearly every loan calculator I can find, that's roughly a $1,400 a month car payment. An individual would have to be making north of $150,000 a year in order to afford that on top of a mortgage/rent payment, utilities, food, etc.
It'll be awhile in the US anyway we will have an EV with that California mode feature. I'll doubt they do this but I think Chrysler should bring the PT Cruiser in EV form.
for those in the market trying to figure out if its a valuable option to buy a car from a brand bankrupt, i will say this with 100% honesty im not getting paid to make a video or talk good about the brand i could care less in that regards , if you are mechanically inclined and software inclined yes buy this fisker ocean suv without a doubt its a no brainier, but if you are afraid to work in your own stuff and or are you afraid to get your hands dirty im afraid this isn't for you. i would try and get the service manuals , and diagnostic equipment from the company before they sell everything due to bankruptcy if you can't get a hold of proprietary diagnostic equipment from fisker then you will need to literally be a genius and come up with your own equipment and your talking almost impossibility but who cares right ???? you are not here on this earth to be afraid of everything
Everybody started to jump on bad press bandwagon. Most don't know how well of fit and finish quality this car as compared to mediocre golf cart like Tesla. How many updates does Tesla have by now? 100? Software issues CAN be fixed, unfortunately this car did not have a chance. I bought a Ocean Extreme for $22000 with 2.1 update less than the price of a Honda Civic and so far this car is amazing minus some futures not there yet. How long will I enjoy this beauty? Time will tell and I like to take risks.
I bet in like 5 years, someone is going to find all of the workarounds to the firmware, program a bunch of hacks and fixes, and create the “ultimate” Fisker Ocean: an Ocean that’s no longer an alpha test project. $13000 for a high performance electric car would be a great deal, if it can actually do “car things”, like unlocking the door to get into the car and drive Fisker should’ve just done what Xiaomi did, get a big company to build the car for you with your own custom touches
lol... I'm sorry.. I don't normally comment outright, but watching the balding, poorly groomed and portly asian dude fumble with the gear shifter while holding the key fob on the opposite side of the steering wheel @4:44 (the reader is on the other side for situations if AND WHEN the battery on the fob dies) was awesome. Great work Edmunds! haha - that was awesome
05:00 this seems just extreemly stupid to me... I have a 20 year old Honda in which the keyless part stopped working a year ago, so we just use the actual key. Problem solved.
Its no big deal. I just use Extreme mode when i want to embarrass the tuner morons with the burping farting exhaust systems at the red lights. 17,100 miles on my ONE and ZERO boosts used so far.
This guy is not even placing the Key on the NFC reader. The NFC reader is on the left side of the steering wheel....why are you awkwardly tapping it on the right side?
THIS is why you don't buy new cars because you pay to be the test subject of the brand. No matter which brand, if you plan to buy a car (not leasing) go for a 4 years old Toyota or Honda after you check all the recalls issued by the brand.
Edmunds buying one of these is much different than an ordinary working person doing so. An organization like this can just park it along side the first model run of it's Teslas, Rivians et al (maybe right next to a Fisker Karma...) and let it sit until it's rarity and uniqueness bring value rather than ridicule. Tuckers were notoriously bad as transportation. Yet they are worth a ton today. For the avg buyer, having to do this would be a disaster. You have to pay to store and maintain your vehicle for a few decades until it (maybe) becomes collectible while also paying for a replacement vehicle? Financial ruin.
I know a friend who wants to be special, other brand EV , everyone has it. Now, he worries if he can sell it. That’s the risk you need to consider before to be special.
There were a bunch of issues with this video. 2.2 is being pushed out, I've been on it since end of September. The NFC reader for the car is one in the driver side handle to unlock and 2. On the left side of the steering wheel on the dash where it is clearly marked. now I'm not sure if you just faked it for the camera angle but doing it on the right would do nothing anyways. Also, no mention that FOA has also secured more keys, and the phone as key is working with 2.2 . Also didn't mention FOA is working on Android Auto and a standalone app for the vehicle. I'm not saying your gripes with the vehicle aren't real, but as journalists you gave no context and seemingly just trashed the vehicle. Didn't feel like a fair shake. Anyways, this was pretty disappointing and unbalanced.
Fisker is a sad story. The car is nice looking and had potential to succeed but it took too long to reach the market and then its software was clearly not ready. That was disastrous and the final nail in Fisker’s coffin.

You could trade that bad boy in for $13500. A shrewd investment indeed sir
For me personally, the problems are:
1) daily battery drain is about 1,5% (seems to have been fixed in 2.2)
2) car rolls back until we enter hold mode (seems to have been fixed in 2.2)
3) annoying speed limit assistance and lane departure assistance which I have to turn off every time
4) no Android Auto / CarPlay
5) no top view 360 cameras
6) no adaptive cruise
7) engine imitation sound is a bit annoying, no possibility to change or turn off
As far as FOA took control over OTA I hope they fix some of these problems in future. And I still didn’t get 2.2, hope to aquire it soon
Positives for me are:
1) cool look;
2) very comfort suspension
3) very comfort seats
4) long range
Fisker and his wife treated their
Employee like garbage. He made his wife who has no exp CFO of a car company and she used to harass and yell at employees constantly. Go read some of the employee reviews in forums..
5:00 hate to $h*t on ya’ll but with 30 seconds of reading you would know the NFC reader is near the headlight controls not on the right side….
Lindholm bil in Viborg in Denmark actually still sell Fisker Ocean , they provide 3 years fully guarantee and leasing via their own bank. Even rather cheap insurance.
I think you should contact the company and ask how they do
Lindholm TV can be seen on RUclips
The 2.2 software release fixed many of the issues including FOB performance and bluetooth connectivity. It also added duel-axle regen for much smoother braking. I wonder why they didn't mention that at all.
All these review channels have agendas..
@@memyselfundeyeFisker’s already out of business. It’s time to remove the tinfoil fedora.
I gave you a like and will watch a full ad to support your recovery of some cost 😂😂
Well done!!!
Henrick needs to be prosecuted for fraud! His name will now forever be associated with trash on two accounts!
ending was hilarious... nice sense of humr
Thank you for your service and buying one of these so we didn't have to.
The owner of the liquor store in my neighborhood bought one of these and every time I see it I'm dying to know what made them decide to buy one.
These cars are gonna sell great!
Thx for the review.. walking away from my deposit on the One was the best thing i did.
Depreciation definitely bunkers and not unique to the Ocean. Ask owners who have over 20,000 miles with 2.2 - it’s a phenomenal machine!
This is why I'm worried about putting a deposit on the Rivian R2. Worried if they'll be around in two years.
I wouldn't put down a deposit....but Rivian is in better shape financially since bigger companies own slices of it. Just wait for the R2 to come out, let them work out the bugs for a year or two and then buy one.
@@chrisss73841 Rivian won't be around in two years.
Biden just gave them 6.6 billion of our money to stay afloat, so they'll be around, and you technically own at least a part of one now. So that's nice
@@chrisss73841its refundable, and only $100
Chances are Rivian isn't going anywhere, BUT the general automotive advice still applies of "never buy the first production year of a new car model".
I wanted this to succeed. I love the styling, the California mode, the variety in the EV market. Oh well.
I understand while Edmunds would buy from a startup but can’t fathom why people buy these unless that have serious money.
Edmunds can write this purchase off on their taxes as a business expense -- so, no real loss.
Too bad about Fisker. I have been following this car because I liked its design, innovations, and the directions it was going in. They just were not able to move quick enough to catch the EV wave at its peak and survive long enough to become profitable. Maybe someone else will take over and make it so.
They needed to pair with another company for the software
@@djplonghead5403Actually, they needed a completely different management team. Fisker knows nothing about running a company. I wouldn't trust him and his wife with a lemonade stand.
EV wave at its peak? More are being sold every year?
I see a few of these in my neighborhood and I feel sorry for the owners.
Noone needs you to feel sorry for them if they love their vehicle.
Noone needs you to feel sorry for them if they love their vehicles🤔 Who said they need you to feel sorry??
@@K9Trixx Um... no one loves their new vehicle so much that they'd okay with 90% value depreciation and zero manufacturer support.
Same. I used to give the owners a thumbs up because it's cool they bought something unusual and new.
Now when I see the owners driving around, I avert my eyes lest they think I am looking at them feeling bad for them.
off topic, the background music contains part of the instrumental to Voltage by Itzy!
The fact that Captain Vaporware actually made a physical car and not just renders is already a miracle. That should give you pause. 😂
The good range and comfortable ride had me hopeful for the Fisker Ocean. Sad that they couldn't make it work financially
Damn cool that Alistair is now the big boss. I was watching him do videos like this on Insideline some 15 years ago.
This was one of those cars with so much showroom appeal in the form of “California mode” and the built in trays. Then you own it and see how maddening and incomplete the product is for day-to-day use.
I can see why they went bankrupt…..
@@kamilb8232 it seems all manufacturers release product without enough testing at times..but this was ridiculous
@Getusom Agreed. The rule to not buy the first year car is even more relevant in these recent times.
I wanted this car so badly, and was dead set on getting one, BUT only as a lease for this exact reason. Which is probably why the never offered a lease, they knew they’d be liable
Saw this on the road today...First thing I thought was "hey that's an expensive vehicle. They must be clueless"
I was tempted to buy one for $19000, but this video woke me up. The electronics.
This is a perfect glimpse into the future of used vehicle buying. Every junk EV that you try to buy used will be considered "obsolete" by the manufacturer, unserviceable and unreliable.
Might as well go for a vinfast vf8 or jaguar ipace next if you’ve got a knack for testing extremely rapidly depreciating and questionably produced EVs
Is there away to get around turning it on like a golf cart commuter car.
They are selling for $25,000 in NorCal now
I see one on the market place for 20k with 4k miles had me thinking but for 10k might be a great pick up lol
I purchased an Ocean because it’s the only car that hasn’t been stolen in my south central LA neighborhood.
It looks really good, too bad that it didn't work
How about giving it away to a lucky viewer
$13000 for a high performance electric car would be a great deal, if it can actually do “car things”, like unlocking the door to get into the car and drive
Fisker should’ve just done what Xiaomi did, get a big company to build the car for you with your own custom touches
lol...
With the Ocean, there is definitely a sunk cost here
How does it drive.
Fiskar Ocean, all show and no go.
I like ur corporate headquarters looks pretty sick
how much did henrick make from selling stock?
05:00 this seems just extreemly stupid to me... I have a 20 year old Honda in which the keyless part stopped working a year ago, so we just use the actual key. Problem solved.
You really had big hopes 😢😂😂.
Keep it longer so you can show us how is to live with car from startup that gone under
the car losing connectivity to me sounds like a huge plus. screw "connected" spyware cars.
My 1992 mazda had solar panels to run the ac when parked...nothing new there.
might as well keep it now
you guys got had
I'm curios how much the loss of value is Fisker being dead vs EV depreciation
The ad revenue from this one video will be greater than the losses incurred from procuring this vehicle!
ioniq5 N has boost mode and yet they never limit the usage.. Fisker really messed up
Its no big deal.
How can you even consider driving something this buggy?!
Dunno… Cars and Bids prices live in the $20-30k range. Ouch😱
I have that same shirt from UniQlo 😆
Honestly how does edmunds have money to do any of this?
I know a friend who wants to be special, other brand EV , everyone has it. Now, he worries if he can sell it. That’s the risk you need to consider before to be special.
Buying something to be special? Your friend needs help with self confidence
Fisker tried to become Land rover and Tesla at the same time with the budget of Lotus
Fisker is a sad story. The car is nice looking and had potential to succeed but it took too long to reach the market and then its software was clearly not ready. That was disastrous and the final nail in Fisker’s coffin.
Almost bought one of these until I found out about all these issues.
Expected much better from Edmunds. Maybe less drama and more facts would help.
“We’re automotive professionals. Don’t try this at home .” Me: 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂they’re not too bright.
The DOJ shouldve forced Fisker to open source ~everything~ about the cars software, designs, etc so owners could get it fixed.
Isnt that English guy the one who got “dizzy” and had to lie down after a 0-60 in a Tesla plaid? He’s your BOSS? What a fake 😂
Henrik Fisker’s name must be carved into automotive industry wall of shame.
I wonder if the software can be hacked and replaced with ...anything else...?
I have an ocean and joined the FOA. They have people looking into it right now
I was wondering why I saw a pretty much brand new one for under $30k
