  • Unfortunately, the 48 hour welding challenge did not go ahead!
    In this video, we take a step back from the ambitious 48-hour challenge to address a hurdle that many MX-5 and Miata owners will recognize right away (check the thumbnail for a hint!).
    We'll be tackling the inner sill and prepping the sill end plate lip mount points and then fitting the sill end plate!
    We'll talk about;
    Identifying common MX-5 rust problems
    Preparing inner sills for repair
    Ensuring proper sill end plate placement
    Leave a comment below and let me know what MX-5 rust challenges you're facing!
    Also this is more of an uncut video with less timelapses, and more discussion while working. Let me know if this is a nice change or not!
    Thanks to everyone enjoying the series so far!

    I'm looking into starting the same body work on my eclipse gsx. Videos like these are an inspiration while I'm taking the car apart to locate the rust.
    Keep up the good work, looking forward to future videos!

      Hey thanks Philip! I'm starting to learn that the rust is the easier part compared to paint! Aha will have a couple of videos up this week if you fancy learning from my mistakes, I'll always do my best to be as transparent as possible!

    Doing well, still can’t figure out how you make sense of those internal panels but every wee bit makes it look more like a finished job…. Keep it up.

      Not sure what drill bit you are using for the spot welds but you can get a specific one that might make life a little easier, maybe also a couple of welding magnets to help hold parts in place and give a bit more space in place of the clamps. That’s some proper mansplaining from someone who hasn’t tried it….. 😂

      @@bernardtrainor7077I have magnets 🧲 but I find that they are good for larger pieces with more surface area, they are such a pain because they get covered with swarth 😂 yes I'm using spotweld bits as well 😅 both types actually the circular cutter bit and the ground stub drill bit for marking it just is that much of a pain lol thanks for watching Bernard I'm glad you are enjoying my struggles 😂
