I've done such restoration work, in similar conditions. My only complaint regarding this guy is his reuse of old, worn bearings, rings and seals. Those valve seats were definitely sub-par. Replacement of wear items and attention to tolerance is the difference between a true restoration that will last, and a wash/paint job that will not.
I agree. Block and head should be boiled, magnafluxed, new valve seats installed, along with new internals. It's possible that parts and machine shops are rather scarce over there.
"Ran when parked" I guess? Wasn't a blown up motor although the corrosion could certainly screw things up. I was expecting him to get new liners and whatnot :-O
This is the best video I have ever watched on RUclips. It was an incredible and fascinating journey from beginning to end. I base my opinion on the fact that this was all done manually and meticulously with the available tools, a tremendous amount of patience, and a lot of hard physical labor. The gentleman restored an engine from scrap to a functional engine. He did not have thousands of dollars worth of machining equipment, sandblasters, etc. Obviously, it is not restored to look like it just came off the assembly line, but the purpose was to have a functional engine to serve a specific purpose with minimal financial resources. I was impressed with how the video showed every step of the process without a word being said, but it was clear to me exactly what he was doing. An example of something that surprised and impressed me was the fact that he torqued the head bolts to specifications instead of simply tightening them. Congratulations on an excellent video and a successful restoration from a new fan and subscriber in the USA.🙂👍❤

I'm not a mechanic, but when you clean these parts, even with 3000 grit you are still removing material. Clearances matter in the piston, crankshaft, and many other places. And I think the epoxy patch at 1:00:10 is a tad janky.
If you turned this guy loose with a $1000 Harbor Freight gift card and gave him some garage space he would probably build a space ship. Mad respect. It is hard enough fixing scrap yard engines when they have been stored properly. This thing had the valve covers off and standing water in the cylinders. kt3406e a great YT channel for diesel rebuilds (OK he rebuilds Cats and destroys other diesels for some reason). He normally does everything better than by the book. He just did a in frame rebuild where he took an engine apart and replaced the destroyed parts with the least bad spares he had in his shop. I think the only new parts were gaskets, seals and some bearings.
Now, im all for a challenge and wont give up easily... but seeing that engine first time, Nope, wouldnt bother. I have to hand it to you mate, you got some perseverance and persistence I wish I had. Well done.

Thank you so much
Amazing how much a good mechanic can do with a sledgehammer and a set of vicgrips ❤ love your videos
Great job
Thank you so much
Remarkable to get the old wreck running!
Thank you so much
Now, im all for a challenge and wont give up easily... but seeing that engine first time, Nope, wouldnt bother. I have to hand it to you mate, you got some perseverance and persistence I wish I had. Well done.
Thank you so much
Good man at his job
Got some real patience with those rusty cap screws n bolts even injectors.
Thank you so much
Best hour and 7 minutes i spent on you tube in a long time. Even though the pesky adds were like small dogs humping my leg every 3 minutes .
Thank you so much
Asia and africa... this is how many people keep their machinery working. Unlike the west that's consuming and disposing so much of resources, these people through skill, dedicate and of course due to poverty make things last. Bless their hearts!
How the village kills mosquitos.
Thank you so much
I’ve seen this done in 3rd world countries like Vietnam, India, Cambodia, the cold water rebuild. Amazing engineering. Looks like new…😮 😊
Thank you for watching the video
I hope this wonderfully repaired engine finds a good home, great job Thanh.
Thank you so much

If I have to live in the third world, I want this guy as a friend!
Thank you so much
Thank you for watching the video
And then it successfully returned to the scrapyard.
Pretty sure it broke down on the way
Thank you so much
Got to say WOW. Glad its not for a Commercial Vessel . Farm Pump great , I enjoyed watching . Hope JB Weld gives this guy a Sponsorship . Admire the Guy.
Thank you so much
I also do shade tree mechanics, in my experience you can spend a whole year sanding the crankshaft and in the end it's wasted time but I'm not going to criticize you, I'm just saying what I've seen in my life.... good video and good luck.
Thank you so much
Well done. Turned a boat anchor back into a running engine.
LA CALIDAD DE ESE MOTOR GARANTIZA QUE FUNCIONARA ,,PERO POR POCO TIEMPO.......LA VERDAD ES UN MUY BUEN LAVADO DE MOTOR ......PERO CON PIEZAS DEMASIADO GASTADAS
Very interesting Video...The man did the MINIMUM re-build possible ! I think it will need
a new injection pump to be dependible...nice camera work....very enjoyable!
Good job 👏👏👍
Thank you so much
Very bad job!
Great recovery job; It takes a lot of skills for that. I hope you can solve the small inconveniences.
Thank you so much
good job😊 from Japan❤
Thank you so much
Bad job! Hi, from Russia.
In the past they used wartime Merlin’s and Allison engines. Those are very scarce so this looks like an interesting option
Thank you so much
Bonjour. de. PARIS. 23 10 2024
C est magnifique ce que vous faites
Travail de Professionnel propre
Bravo à vous Bonne journée
Thank you so much
I miss this let's go dirty work... still looks a lot of fun 😅😅😅..👍👍
Awesome....I don't know about you but, I always had leftover parts and no place to put them back and the engine ran better....Have you looked at an aircraft Junk yard for goodies for repurpose????
Where I live, there is no airplane trash dump, they are very red soil
I'm really impressed with this guy is doing for having nothing to work with just his skills
Thank you so much
Your welcome
Good job❤
Thank you so much
Parabéns irmão. Você é um mecânico como poucos. Um abraço do Brasil
Thank you so much
If you’re ever having a bad day with your project, remember this somehow ran lol. Goes to show that not everything has to be perfect to still be ok
Thank you so much
Thank you so much
Good job. Keep it up
Thank you so much
Imagine what this man could do rebuilding with all new parts.
Thank you so much
Thank you so much
Thank you so much
Injector pump and nozzles need check up.
Thank you so
A heroic job, nice to see.😊
Thank you so much

The engine started! The exhaust is white, so the oil will go up. The injection pump also looks bad. But I'm looking forward to it, which will surely get better. Good luck!
Thank you so much
