Ya, it has star head screws. Looks like it came out of a collapsed barn . I worked with a guy around 1980 who had a Stihl chainsaw from the 1940s . It was like 20hp mower engine with a cutting bar. He bought it as a collector item . I'm betting he still has it today

NO WAY the chainsaw was sent to him from Germany. The inside of the box is labeled in English. The potato chips are sold in Germany under the name Pringels and not Lays. + Why would you anybody send a chainsaw halfway around the world when the manufacturer and the best spare parts supplier for a Stihl saw is in Germany and hardly anyone in Germany is called Jonathan.

If you prepped the engine cases better before painting them this would of be a 10/10, you should never paint the inside of the cases, also the mating surface for the cylinder base should of all been masked off prior to painting (no hate intended) think of it as constructive criticism

This was so painful to watch. I've been watching restoration videos for 4 yrs now. And these ones taint the restoration world. 😢 the paint on the crank case seal area is what got me the most. I've rebuilt plenty of motors and that's a no no. All the pitting not taken care of. The hot glue when you can see the original screw holes. Ugh. Painful.

BUT - I guess I'm actually paying into his fund by interacting with this video, so...I'm the problem, not the solution! lol

From the start as he started to unscrew the screws... they vere not only brand new but also too easy to unscrew. Am i the only one here? I think its fake as fuck. If you've ever tried to unscrew something that rusty NO WAY it would be that easy, more than likely you would've need to cut it off. The - screw with so rusty bolt ? It would been destroyed even trying to do it. The old rusty spark plug? NO WAY it would've been unscrewed in 1 peace THAT EASY. Because again from the shaft to the end of the plug it was new.

Holy Crap....to bring something so far gone back to life....your a brave person and get 4 gold stars in my book. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I am a logger/ Faller and have been most of my adult life. My first pro duty powerheads were Stihl and I ran them for years till they got more concerned with other things besides making a really good pro powerhead. I switched to Husqvarna about 12-15 years ago and never have gone back. Everytime Stihl comes out with a new model I try it out but they still are too concerned with things a Professional who earns his living with a good powerhead don't need ! We want Dependable above all else, then we want raw POWER....AND THE LITTLE THINGS THAT HELP US DO OUR JOB....CAPTURED BAR NUTS, FLIP UP HEAVY DUTY OIL AND GAS LIDS, BIG AGGRESSIVE Bucking Spikes, full wrap handles, a body and case thats not made of some strange composite plastic crap...we want good tough reliable quality craftsmanship.....not a bunch of home owner or weekend firewood cutter glitzy crap....nothing fancy, nothing we cant fix out in the bush, just meat and potatoes boring heavy duty dependable powerheads...we will gladly pay for what we want but re-building our old saws year after year aint gonna continue to get it done. Thats why so many fallers have gone to Husqvarna....even though they are building new fangled self tuning efi stuff....we can still buy the old 390xp or something bigger brand new....I got so concerned about places phasing out what I liked....I bought 4 brand new in the box old school 390XP POWERHEADS...
When I need one I take it to our local sawshop guy and he goes through it and ports it new out of the box..
And I will run it till it drops...
I cant say that about the Stihl powerheads anymore....

There had better be a part 2 to this build or I am gonna be pissed. So far, I am glued to watching the engine rebuild. This bike is going to be a beauty when she is done.

I love watching people fix up vintage stuff like this. Its crazy to see how power tools have evolved through the years! And like I've seen people say on here, ignore the haters. I doubt most of them could do what you do and even less could make these things function like new.

Yeah the 10k is probably a lie or mistranslation, however the screws are not. I’ve torn apart plenty of of these going back to the 50’s model. If he pre lubbed it for days prior that seems reasonable. Out of hundreds I’ve only had a couple I had to re-tap

Why do you not fully clean the parts? If you go to the trouble to sand blast the parts why go only part way and then bury the rust and grime under the paint?
