I watched this video and listened to this video several times before taking it on myself and I thought that it’d be so difficult. But you are so right, as soon as I got started it was wonderfully easy!! Thank you so much for your patience and beautiful instruction, you helped me feel confident in finishing out this project ☺️☺️☺️💜💜💜
I love this technique ❤!!!! It makes a beautiful joining border and the finished look is fabulous! You are right, it lays nice and flat. The raised connecting edges really create a lovely look around all of the squares. After I got used to the steps after the first 2-3 blocks, it was so easy and quick. Best joining technique I’ve ever done. Thank you for sharing !! 🥰🧶🥰
Thank You Soooo Much for this AWESOME tutorial on the JAYGO method! You’ve made it so clear and concise that I believe “I can Really do it!” Many Thanks!!! I LOVE your beautiful crochet tutorials and inspiration!
I am so very new at crocheting but it's so much fun! I learned how to do your sunburst granny square and I absolutely love it! Ive had to buy more yard in lots of bright colors so I can make my granddaughter a blanket. You crochet so fast! By the time you finish one side, I'm still trying to work one set of DC 🤣but it's so much fun. You're the only "tutor" I watch and I'm so thankful for you! Crocheting has always been my passion. My grandmother didn't know how and neither does my mother. I wanted to learn so I could pass it down to my girls and my granddaughters. It seems to be a dying art I guess cuz people are lazy and would rather buy the already made item. This is unique, one of a kind and comes from the heart! Thank you again and I love you girl!
Just wanted to comment that I have a few of your patterns and the CJAYGO is the only way I join now. It's ADDICTIVE. For some reason the motion is soothing and you really get into a groove doing it. It's my favorite part making a blanket! Thank you so much for your patterns and tutorials.
Wonderful instructions - thank you! It was a bit tricky at first, but like you said - once you get the hang of it it's such a great way to join blanket squares
I love the zigzag stitch technique when joining multiple color square's in the vertical and horizontal from another RUclips video that I watched and once you complete the blanket you would do a single crochet around the blanket with 3 signal stitches in each corner then on the next round you would do a slip stitch ch 1 in each stitch all the way around....hope I explained it clearly......again I love this method of join as you go.
Absolutely love this blanket ❤Do you have a video to show how you worked the border. As well as a list of the yarn and colors you used. Thank you for sharing 🙏🥰
This is brilliant 🤩 why didn’t I find this earlier!! Normal CJAYJ leaves gaps that were not ideal on my granny square cardigan 😆🙄 Thank you for the clear and easy to follow instructions ☺️
Great video and very well done. I intend on using this method. You made it so simple. Most of all you took your time that makes a big difference. It shows a lot. Thank you! Here to support from insta.
The is very excellent and I can tell it is a very good method..problem is I just cannot get the darn beginning corner of earth square...driving me nuts!!!
Thank you so much. I have always been too scared to do the join as you go, but you do explain it so well, I think with my next project I will give it a go. May I ask what yarn you are using, it is beautiful.
Hi! This is wool of the Andes tweed from Crochet.com -all these squares and yarn info can be found here: www.nautikrallcrochet.com/blog-freepatterns/blog-post-title-one-b6xdw
if my granny clusters along the edges have a ch1 between then what do I do there? These look like they have no chains except at corners but I do mine with ch1 on sides (and ch2 in corners)
Thanks!! Christmas in the Sand blanket pattern can be purchased in my Etsy shop: NautiKrall or at www.Nautikrallcrochet.com -I’ll update the description and put a link there since it won’t let me here ☺️
No they aren’t! Everything lies really nicely as long as you do the ch 1, sl st, ch 1. Some people don’t do the chaining and just sl st the corners then it ends up lumpy bumpy. ☺️ it’s absolutely perfect for clothing. No other way really.
Also if you check out my Instagram @nautikrallcrochet you’ll see lots of work that’s joined this way-shawls, sweaters etc. that’ll give you a better idea of how well it works for wearables ☺️
Hoping you might have some advice! I stumbled upon your videos yesterday and was just filled with inspiration to make a temperature blanket using this method, incorporating 4 days of the year per square with the 5th row as a neutral white to tie it all together. Then the plan was to use a dark grey heather to connect it all using this CJAYGO method. However, your squares only have the four rows before joining; would it still work the same way with five rows pre-joining?
Works the exact same way!! For your fifth round work it like a regular granny square (you don’t need trebles in the corners and all those different stitches once it’s already a square)! And your 6th round/joining round will be the exact same. It’s going to be gorgeous when you’re finished!!! 💕
@@nautikrallcrochet thank you!! I just wanted to double check before I committed! I’m so excited-and thanks so much for your amazing tutorials, as I’ll be using your tutorial for the sunburst for this blanket! ❤️❤️❤️
Hello. I have a question...can you describe the texture and quality of wool of the Andes yarn? I have always wanted to buy some but I'm afraid it's scratchy or rough to the touch. These squares are beautiful and I would love to make a blanket with them. Thank you!
Hi Pam! It is definitely a more “traditional” wool as in its a bit scratchy. Now-having said that…I don’t have any problems with it next to skin. But my 5 year old says it’s itchy. BUT I will say that it’s still softer than most acrylics *ahem, red heart super saver, ahem* 😅 is it merino? Nope. But I love it’s rustic texture and feel 🤷🏼♀️
Hello! Thank you for this pattern and the tutorials! I'm a bit confused on the CJAYGO...you're using 4 squares to demonstrate...but if you're joining the whole blanket, you would work a single row all the way across (8 squares) before you go down to the second row? Is that correct? Thank you for your help!
Hi Amy! Yes that is exactly correct!! Do all the way across your row (8 squares), come across the bottoms back to the starting square and attach your 2nd row all the way across. Happy crocheting ☺️
@@nautikrallcrochet I have another, more general, question...I have a really difficult time holding tension on my yarn, and I'm wondering if you can give me some guidance about that. Thank you!
@@amyeller1551 hi Amy, unfortunately I can’t help much there. The way you hold yarn is incredibly personal! I’m pretty sure everyone holds their yarn/hook differently. What I will say though, is that there are several RUclips videos where people show how they hold their yarn and it might be helpful to watch some and find something that works best for you. Cheers, M
Well you can see from the video that it’s tight and works out great-but that’s also not what the “tight” is referring to. The tight in this case refers to the fact that every stitch is worked into the top of the other forming a solid seam up the squares rather than gaps or holes as in other JAYG methods. Also, if you’d like to leave out the ch 1 you absolutely can. It’s always great to experiment with whatever works best for you!
Do you have written instructions posted anywhere? I have to rewind every time I get to a corner and I always do better with written instructions versus video. 😅
Could you explain where each stitch goes when joining these squares? You skip over how many slip stitches go into the dc from the first square. I've had to rewind this no less than 20 times and it's very frustrating.
Hi Stacey-I’m not sure what you’re talking about. I explain exactly where each stitch goes…you slip stitch once into the top of stitch along the side of your square and make your coordinating dc in your working square. You do this along the whole edge. I’m not sure if that’s what you’re asking?
Yaaay thank you, this is the type of join I wanted took about 20 videos till I found your video! so easy peasy ❤
Your colors are just beautiful!
Making up my blanket. Your instructions are fab. You've got such a lovely manner and voice. Very relaxing. Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to create a great tutorial for joining squares. And how you attach a new yarn is a game changer for me! Blessings!

this looks so much easier than whip stitching all the squares together...thank you for sharing 🙂
It is so much easier!! It’s faster and saves time on sewing in ends and doesn’t use as much yarn!! Win, win, win!!
So glad I found this! I wanted to try the CJAYG, but the gaps between the three DCs was not what I wanted. But this is so perfect! Thank you so much!!
This is exactly what I am looking for. Thank you!
This is such a well explained tutorial. Absolutely loved it, and highly appreciate the follow along! Thank you so much

Yes it probably would-you’ll want to work an extra stitch into your ch 1 sp. ☺️

@@nautikrallcrochet That's okay. I finally did it enough times (with rewinding) that I think I have it down now. :) Thank you for the reply!
Is it ok to use the other method with this yarn.
Yes it’s ok-it just pulls a lot under the weight of a natural fibre. They tend to be much heavier than acrylics. ☺️
