Finally! Another crocheter who controls tension by having the yarn go over their middle finger and “pinching” the work with their index finger! I have been told that I’m doing it wrong but I’m not! It’s just how I crochet. And I see that you do it too! Thanks for the great tutorial!

I’ve always crocheted in this way. My great aunt and my Mother crocheted pinching the work with the index and tensioning with the middle finger. Feels natural to me. This is an excellent tutorial, just what I was looking for ☺️🇦🇺

Thank you. I used your method to join using HDCs instead of DC…I wanted a narrower join…it came out great!

Thank you for this - was exactly what I was looking for! My 2024 temperature blanket is flower granny squares, and I wanted a way to join as I go - and without the holes that other methods demonstrate.

Crochet saving this one to use later! Really loving this method of join as you go! What was curious though is you mentioning non-super wash wool and that it would felt later so you're not going to worry about it? Does the felting ruin this pretty design? I was under the impression that felting made everything kind of stick together. Are you still going to see this beautiful design? Do you have anything with similar design that has already felted that you could show us sometime?

Do you block granny squares before you join them?

This is really pretty. I'm wondering how much yarn this adds to the project as a whole. Any ideas on how much extra yardage you'd need per square?
