UPDATE: Hi everyone! This video has received a resurgence of interest so I wanted to let you know that I AM making this blanket and will show you the finished project in a few weeks. Here are some answers to your questions in the meantime. The yarn is "Feels Like Butta" and is a sport weight (Med 4) requiring a 4mm hook. I used a 3.75 mm which made each square 4x4 inches. I am making a 3' x 4' FT throw blanket (not including the border) and I will need 108 squares to do this ( width= 9 squares, height =12 squares). Each square takes about 23 yards of yarn. The skeins I have are 218 yards each so I will need 12 Skeins to make this size blanket. Hope
@@victorialamarque-blair6289 12 skeins total varying the colors . When I bought the yarn at Michaels, the skeins were huge. Each was the equivalent of 3 skeins so I have essentially 15 skeins but definitely don’t need that much. So to answer your question, I would get two of each color (10) then choose a 6th color for the remaining 2 or maybe repeat 1 or 2 colors to reach 12.
I haven't made a granny square in 50+ years but this beautiful pattern has made me rethink them. In my teens I made a blanket for my mom using the standard granny square but ran out of yarn. With no money for more yarn it became what my family jokingly called the "Half-gan". Although my mom has been gone for many years, it still lives on and has warmed laps of our entire extended family over the years. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I just may have to try them again! ♥️

Thank you! Your color choices are beautiful. I have been crocheting for many years and was happy to learn a few new tips to make my work look even better. I look forward to more videos!
I love this tutorial but I have a question. My square isn't laying flat what am I doing wrong.? I'm using an H hook and using 4 weight yarn. . It seems over crowed can someone advise me please.
You can try going up a hook size to help loosen the stitches - or add a chain in between stitches to help give it more room. It’s easiest to do that in between granny clusters or in the corners . It just sounds like a tension issue so these two suggestions should do the trick 👍🏻
Love your techniques and tutorial method. The pace is just right for me to re-learn this pattern. And it inspires me to continue finishing my huge blanket.
Thank you so much for plenty of little tips on joining the yarn for the circle parts of the pattern, I’m so glad I watched this video before I continued making them another way. They look so much better and neater now!
I’ve pretty much been crocheting on it for three days straight! 😄🥳 All of the 99 circles are done, now I feel like I’m getting closer to finishing it. It’s been a wonderful distraction! Cheers from Germany and happy 2021!
I love this tutorial and I LOOOOVE the colors you chose! I love doing starburst granny squares, but I keep having one issue: when I do my round of puff stitches, I tend to get a gap underneath it, between the puff stitch and double crochet. Your rows are all so tight and neat, and fit against each other so nicely! I'm wondering if I'm pulling too hard on the puff stitch, or if my double crochets aren't tight enough...do you have any words of wisdom you could pass on to a newbie crocheter?
Thank you so much - gosh I have to admit I’m not really sure what could be causing that. It could be an issue with tension - maybe a smaller hook size to see if that tightens it up for you ? I use a 3.75 mm eventhough my yarn calls for a 4mm. Maybe someone will read this and have some insights. Keep me posted if you find a resolution ❤️
@@PlayHookywithMe a smaller hook size might do it! since i’m still a beginner, i imagine it’s probably a yarn tension thing..i’ll keep at it! Thanks again for this video !
HAppened to me too! I realized that's because I didn't make the puff stitch between the double crochets but instead I made it inside of the double crochet.. if that makes sense. Go deeper, is what I'm saying kdsjdkjs
So glad I stumbled upon your tutorial!! Love the why you explain, slow and your video is so clear!! I have made the Sunburst block but joined it differently, I enjoyed so much making the Sunburst block, I think I am going to make another and use your method to join! Thanks for a wonderful tutorial. Easy to follow and I‘m looking forward using your cluster corners. You chose perfect colours and the blanket is amazing.
I wish you had a written pattern with all your specific tips and tricks! Love this channel but watching videos isn’t always so easy with many children. Love this square! Thank You
This was so helpful. Your tutorial was easy to follow and I love your voice and enthusiasm. I am using this pattern to make a hat and the join as you go method works really well. Keep it up!!!
Lovely square, and easy! I used a size H hook and my square measured about 4 and 3/4", so I added another row of dc to get it 6". This square is great-I'll be makin more.
I just finished reading some comments and I don't want to repeat what everyone else is saying, but I totally agree with everyone. The colors of the yarn looks really pretty together. I would love to have a throw like this but it's to much of changing the colors for me because I am not good at changing the colors in any project. Thank you for this tutorial.
Thank you for writing. I hope you won’t let changing colors stop you from trying the project. What do you struggle with? Maybe that is something I could make a video about 💕
@@PlayHookywithMe when it's time to change colors, I usually tie the two ends in a knot, like 5 times because I'm always afraid it will come undone and also the 2 different yarn ends. I don't see them in very well and hide them. I have seen people change colors 1000x but I'm still unsure about myself. Thank you for replying. ❤️
Hi and welcome to Play Hooky with Me! I want to give a big shout out to those of you that take the time to watch, hit like and subscribe. It means the world to me and really helps youtube to push my channel. So, thank you! If you have a request for a video, don't hesitate to let me know. xo
@@poppykisley2459 Ugh, I know it. A lot of times you can carry the tail in the next round and catch it in the stitches and eliminate a lot of them that way. Leave a long tail and include it in your next round for about an inch or inch 1/2 (whatever you feel is good). I would also recommend getting a pack of "Susan Bates Finishing Needles". I couldn't find them easily at a store so I ordered them online. These have made the process much faster. I waste so much time trying to thread a needle and this takes that away completely. Hope that helps xx
@@elizavindas8525 I would repeat row 4 OR you could do the same sequence in row 4 with double crochets instead . I just tried it and it looks really nice . So row 5 would look like this : start in a corner with 3dc ch3 3dc . 3dcs in each cluster on the side until you reach the next corner (there would be 4 clusters on row 5 ) and continue this all the way round.
Thank you so much for making this video! I love how the granny square doesnt look so classic with the touch of bubble pattern inside. I find it sooo pretty! 😍😍😍
Hi! Your videos always show perfect up-close camera work and your explanations are also spot-on. I was looking for a pretty lapgan to make for a senior citizens home and this is it. Thank you so much for creating this video.
Hello!! Just wanna say thank u so much for making this video!! It’s such an easy to follow tutorial. I’m a super new beginner and I made my very first granny square and I can’t express how happy I was after completing it. I struggled with learning how to crochet for weeks until I came across your channel ❤️🥺 sending u love all the way from Singapore 💗
I just recently stated back crocheting and came across your channel. I have really enjoyed your videos. I'm like you I can't sell my projects because all the pet hair that has found it's way into the stitches. That's okay with me for I'd rather have my babies and enjoy them then worry about selling my projects.
I just came across your channel (I love your channel name!) and am so excited! I adore this pattern and your color choices! So beautiful! When I get better with my crocheting I will definitely try it. Just saved this video! Can’t wait to see the final blanket
@@PlayHookywithMe am happy but the squares need more perfection at the corners.Your colours and the work itself is so perfect and I love watching this. Hi there, I’m so pleased I found you Thru a friends link to your pattern, just great teaching gorgeous work. Have often wanted to try Feels Like Butta yarn - your squares look awesome thank you
Love this so much thank you. I would love to border it but haven't a clue how as shell border doesn't calculate. Anyone can help with this to get a neat edge please? X
If you really want to do a shell border , you can make it work … just fudge it a little by skipping a stitch here or there to get the calculations right as you go. I’ve found the best place to do that is before a corner or after. As long as the corners look right, everything else will. If you don’t like that idea, here is the border I added to mine: Easy Block Stitch Border (+ Picot Stitch) ruclips.net/video/n8qxN5zUIzk/видео.html
Beautiful pattern, but I have a question. You said around 20 minutes in that I should connect the trebles going across to the other square, but what do I do when I’m joining my first two squares?? I don’t have another one on the left side like yours yet to be able to go across. Thanks
Thank you , Megan. Okay, when you are first starting , you complete the first square completely (not joining to anything). Grab your next “disc” and complete 3 sides. On the third side , only complete the first 3 trebles in the corner and then attach with your slip stitch to the corner of the first completed square . Then create the next 3 trebles on the new disc you’re working on to continue the joining of the 2 squares together. Finish the 4th side with the join as you go technique. You will keep doing this to join the first row of your blanket., If this doesn’t make sense , please write me over on Instagram in direct messages and I’ll send some photos to help . 💕
Hola Roz. Gracias por compartir este hermoso patrón. Realmente explicas muy bien, no creí que pudiera lograr hacer este cuadrado de la abuelita pero seguí cada uno de tus pasos y me quedó súper lindo! Muchas gracias!!
hi.love your choice of colors ..they are my favorite too. i was wondering what blanket to make and yours grab my heart. i am new to crochet only a month but i am doing pretty good . but it is not very clear for me how to join all squares. every one shows this only on one side and corner. should i conect them first lets say vertical and then horisontal ? a confusing here for me. maybe we conect them firs on the right side ,then conect the upper part and corner with diagonal then we continue the square without conection- the left side we crochet alone. ?????
Hello dear , it’s me again ; I’m trying to attach these squares as I go .. I crochet 4 rounds .. then I attached the 5 th round as I go .. I like the way it looks; even though a little difficult to handle.. I hope I’m on the right track .. not that easy.. I’ll keep on trying this method, thanks kindly.
Oh good idea to add a 5th round to join as you go. Yes, it’s a bit tricky but at some point it will “click” and you’ll get your rhythm. I hope you’ve seen my join the first 4 video - I think I added a couple more tips in that one that hopefully you will find useful 💕 ruclips.net/video/Q6KkuLqGg2c/видео.html

You can try going up a hook size to help loosen the stitches - or add a chain in between stitches to help give it more room. It’s easiest to do that in between granny clusters or in the corners .
It just sounds like a tension issue so these two suggestions should do the trick 👍🏻
Thank you for replying. I went up two sizes. I'm using a K hook. I've never used one this big but so far it's doing good. Thank you again.
Thank you for this clear and beautiful tutorial. You have helped me a lot! And your voice is so kind and soft, just so nice to listen to.💗
How kind , thank you so much ! 😀💕
Love your techniques and tutorial method. The pace is just right for me to re-learn this pattern. And it inspires me to continue finishing my huge blanket.
So happy to read this 💕
Thank you so much for plenty of little tips on joining the yarn for the circle parts of the pattern, I’m so glad I watched this video before I continued making them another way. They look so much better and neater now!
I’m soooo glad you found it helpful! Thank you for letting me know and I hope you are enjoying making your blanket! Xx
I’ve pretty much been crocheting on it for three days straight! 😄🥳 All of the 99 circles are done, now I feel like I’m getting closer to finishing it. It’s been a wonderful distraction! Cheers from Germany and happy 2021!
@@mamaofpurl fantastic! I’m sure it’s going to be beautiful! Happy New Year to you too! 🍾🎊🎆 Wishing you all good things xx
I love the colors you chose. Thanks for such a pretty tutorial.
I wish they would make more colors I’m really fond of them too , thank you ! 💕
@@PlayHookywithMe for
HAppened to me too! I realized that's because I didn't make the puff stitch between the double crochets but instead I made it inside of the double crochet.. if that makes sense. Go deeper, is what I'm saying kdsjdkjs
Wow! What a lovely pattern! ❤❤❤❤ I will try to make it)))) thank you for this video ❤❤❤
Thank you ! 🧶💕
I really love this pattern and I appreciate how thorough your instructions are☺️
Thank you 💕
I did it!!! Much easier than I thought it was going to be. Thanks for sharing ☺️
So glad ! 😀💕🧶
Your color palette grabbed me right off. Nice sunburst blanket. New sub.
Thank you for subbing! 😀💕
So glad I stumbled upon your tutorial!! Love the why you explain, slow and your video is so clear!! I have made the Sunburst block but joined it differently, I enjoyed so much making the Sunburst block, I think I am going to make another and use your method to join! Never done the Join as you go method, it looks so neat!! Happy Crocheting everyone! 🥰🧶☀️
Thanks so much, Paula! I think you’ll really enjoy the joining method! 😀💕🧶
Thank you for the super easy tutorial. I'm a beginner and I managed to follow along.
Oh good, I’m so happy it was easy to follow. Thank you for letting me know 💕
Thanks for a wonderful tutorial. Easy to follow and I‘m looking forward using your cluster corners. You chose perfect colours and the blanket is amazing.
Thank you ! 🧶💕
I wish you had a written pattern with all your specific tips and tricks! Love this channel but watching videos isn’t always so easy with many children. Love this square! Thank You
Yes I understand, thank you for the feedback
This was so helpful. Your tutorial was easy to follow and I love your voice and enthusiasm. I am using this pattern to make a hat and the join as you go method works really well. Keep it up!!!
Ooooh, a hat ! I’m sure it’s going to look amazing 😍 thank you for your kind words and I’m so glad you found it helpful 💕
Lovely square, and easy! I used a size H hook and my square measured about 4 and 3/4", so I added another row of dc to get it 6". This square is great-I'll be makin more.
Wonderful! 😀💕👏🏻
Love this Granny square and your tutorial is marvelous. Love the colours you used
Thank you so much !
Thank you!!!! I didn't understand the written pattern so much and you saved my life
Oh great!! 😃👏🏻👏🏻💕
Such a great video! So easy to follow and your voice is really relaxing ☺️
How kind of you , thank you ☺️ 💕
Beautiful, great tutorial, thank you for sharing 🥰👏🏻💗
Thank you 💕
Nice video and so so easy to follow.your voice is so sweet and clear.
So happy you liked it, thank you ! 💕
Hi and welcome to Play Hooky with Me! I want to give a big shout out to those of you that take the time to watch, hit like and subscribe. It means the world to me and really helps youtube to push my channel. So, thank you! If you have a request for a video, don't hesitate to let me know. xo
Hi, what do you do with all the loose ends, do you so them in or is there a better way, as I’ve been sewing them in but it’s taking forever
@@PlayHookywithMe ok thank you!!
hi! If i wanted to make the square bigger, how can i do it? After the last round, what should I do?):
@@elizavindas8525 I would repeat row 4 OR you could do the same sequence in row 4 with double crochets instead . I just tried it and it looks really nice . So row 5 would look like this : start in a corner with 3dc ch3 3dc . 3dcs in each cluster on the side until you reach the next corner (there would be 4 clusters on row 5 ) and continue this all the way round.
The best tutorial I have ever seen. Thank you.xx
Thank you so much 😀💕
Your work is beautiful. From Australia 🇦🇺
So kind, thank you ! 😀💕
Thank you so much for making this video! I love how the granny square doesnt look so classic with the touch of bubble pattern inside. I find it sooo pretty! 😍😍😍
Thank you ! 😀💕
This was very hard to make but thank you so much for doing this one too you are wonderful ❤
Hi! Your videos always show perfect up-close camera work and your explanations are also spot-on. I was looking for a pretty lapgan to make for a senior citizens home and this is it. Thank you so much for creating this video.
Oh good, I’m so glad. Thank you 😀🧶❤️
i thought that would be hard but it was much easier than i expected! thank you for the great tutorial
Oh good, I’m so glad! 😀🤗
Ohhh, you have made my day, Tammy 😀💕 thank you so much for telling me. I’m so happy I could help 💕🌸
I just recently stated back crocheting and came across your channel. I have really enjoyed your videos. I'm like you I can't sell my projects because all the pet hair that has found it's way into the stitches. That's okay with me for I'd rather have my babies and enjoy them then worry about selling my projects.
Yay! I’m glad I’m not alone on this with the pet hair. 😂💕 glad to see you here 💕
Very well explained and film in such a way that it is clear what we should mimic. Thank you so much for this tutorial! ❤
Thank you so much 😀💕
Thank you very much!!! I’m Brazilian so I can’t understand you, but i’m trying and I managed make do crochet squares like yours
😀👏🏻🙌🏻💕 wonderful!
Fantastic video! I'm a new crocheter and this is awesome...I can't wait to make my throw following your instructions...thank you!!

I just came across your channel (I love your channel name!) and am so excited! I adore this pattern and your color choices! So beautiful! When I get better with my crocheting I will definitely try it. Just saved this video! Can’t wait to see the final blanket
Excellent! Thank you for letting me know and I hope you’ll give it a try! 💕💕💕
What a beautiful color palette!!
Thank you so much!
I will try this later. Still a beginner and bought a yarn for a bucket hat, today!
@@adhitya2077 oooh fun!
Great job, thanks for sharing, i wonder how kind of yarn you have used snd what hook size please? Thanks a lot!
Hi - all the information is in the description box under the video
Hello, Thank You. Been having trouble with how finish the first round of my hexagon I'm working on now for my afghan. Thanks again.
Oh how pretty ... hope this helped 💕 thank you !!
Thanks to you, my first attempt done, just 9 squares ... not as perfect as yours but feeling happy to have at least started. ❤️
Wonderful, I’m so happy I got to be a part of your project! I’m sure they are fantastic 😀💕👏🏻
@@PlayHookywithMe am happy but the squares need more perfection at the corners.Your colours and the work itself is so perfect and I love watching this. Now I am trying to get the same yarn you have suggested from Amazon, (into India) but they cost a fortune :-) ...anyway am hoping I will be able to do a better and a slightly bigger project...thank you so so much for a lovely tutorial and for inspiring many ...❤️
Your tutorial is great 👍
I will surely going to try this with help of this video.
Keep posting more video
Thanks a lot 😊
Stunning! The colors are so beautiful!!! Wow!
Thank you ! 😀❤️
Wow great instructions and uncomplicated. So many good suggestions! Do you ever use the magic ring to begin? Thank you.
All the time now, yes 💕
Your instructions are very easy to follow. Can you make a tutorial for how to make a baby cardigan and a granny square women's blazer?
I’ll make a note of it , thank you
Thank you. You teach very well. Many kisses from me and from Portugal.
Kisses back to you , thank you! 😘
Hi there, I’m so pleased I found you Thru a friends link to your pattern, just great teaching gorgeous work. Have often wanted to try Feels Like Butta yarn - your squares look awesome thank you
Oh wonderful! So happy you are here , thank you ! 💕
Just love the colour combination 🥰
I’ve tried so many but this is my favorite! Thank you❤
I’m so happy you do, it’s a favorite for me as well 💕
That yarn looks so soft. I may have to buy some.
It’s as soft as it looks 💕
This helped so much I wanted to learn how to do it and I finally found a good video
I’m so glad!
If you don’t like that idea, here is the border I added to mine:
Easy Block Stitch Border (+ Picot Stitch)

You will keep doing this to join the first row of your blanket.,
If this doesn’t make sense , please write me over on Instagram in direct messages and I’ll send some photos to help . 💕
Hola Roz.
Yes thank you!!! The last tutorial I saw she did treble crochet all around and my square looked wonky!
Oh good! Yes sometimes it just takes a little tweak in the height of the stitches to fix things! Glad the video helped ! 😀🧶💕
hi.love your choice of colors ..they are my favorite too. i was wondering what blanket to make and yours grab my heart. i am new to crochet only a month but i am doing pretty good . but it is not very clear for me how to join all squares. every one shows this only on one side and corner. should i conect them first lets say vertical and then horisontal ? a confusing here for me. maybe we conect them firs on the right side ,then conect the upper part and corner with diagonal then we continue the square without conection- the left side we crochet alone. ?????
Here you go :

🐕 are a joy I ❤ 🐕
Thank you 💕💕💕
Hello dear , it’s me again ; I’m trying to attach these squares as I go ..
I hope you’ve seen my join the first 4 video - I think I added a couple more tips in that one that hopefully you will find useful 💕

Thanks for your helpful tutorial but still struggle with keeping up to it. My granny square don't look neat but trying not to give up.

Im very very new to crotchet but oh my im going to have to try this!
Thank you :)
Welcome to the world of crochet! I hope you are enjoying it so far 💕
Hi I love your channel. Please would you tell me why you use a thinner hook than is recommended, thanks.
I just preferred the look of the tighter stitches and it was what I had on hand.
Usually now, I work with a size 4 mm because I can’t easily find the 3.75 mm .
