I have crocheted for years and have never tried this joining technique. Thank you for taking the time to create such an easy to follow tutorial. I am going to use this to make my little granddaughter (2yo) an afghan for her little baby doll.🥰
@@emmacmakes❤ this is sooooo beautiful thank you for teaching us ❤ please please can you teach us this granny matching triangular 🙏 please to use in a cardigan 🙏 please
I am an avid sock knitter (and crochet blanket maker) and I have a HUGE sock-yarn-leftover-stash. I've tried mitred squares to use it up but it just doesn't sit with me, I cant get into any kind of rhythm with it so I've just been hoarding my scraps. NOT ONCE have I thought about crocheting with it! DUH!! Talk about a face-palm moment. My scraps are mostly dark colours but who cares, it'll keep us cosy on the sofa. I seem to handle UK and US crochet terms quite well, my brain just switches into US-mode or UK-mode as appropriate but it is nice to hear the UK terms for sure. Thanks for the inspiration, I am also "hooked" ;-)
Thank you! I’ve also tried knitting a mitred square blanket and couldn’t get into the rhythm of it either, which is a shame as I’ve seen some that look lovely! ☺️
I wish I could say I'm an avid sock knitter because I absolutely love starting socks. I love the 2x2 rib as I haven't caught on well too 1x1 but I'm so intimidated by the heel regardless of having completed 4 pairs beautifully. It's almost an irrational fear, isn't that strange. I'd have a huge stash of sock yarn as well. It's been knitted legwarmers and crocheted dishcloths for me 😮💨
Although I know how to do only the basics in crochet and am really an avid knitter, I was really interested in your tutorial for the tiny granny square blanket! I have quite a few leftover bits of sock yarn and have been thinking of the best way to utilize every scrap. A granny square blanket has crossed my mind more than once, but when I saw the mini-granny squares that are joined as you go, I was “hooked!” (Yes, pun very much intended!). Thanks for the tutorial. 🤗
Thank you@@urshurakdieohnekanal9291 I will take a look. I have been knitting & crocheting for 64 + yrs but I like to view these for ideas & fun, but get tired of having to translate in my mind treble for double crochet etc.
This is so clear, thank you. I rarely do granny squares because I detest sewing them together. This is inspiring! I have a lot of knitting worsted leftovers that I will now be crocheting into a join-as-you-go granny square blanket to keep in the car. Brilliant.
Thank you, Emma. Very nice tutorial. I love how your project looks. I know this will sound crazy, but sometimes I forget that the easiest way to use up your leftovers is in projects like this. Take care and I look forward to seeing other crochet projects from your channel. 🌼
A friend here in USA 🇺🇸 send me this and I love this idea. I’m indeed more inclined to attach it so it won’t show that swirling side but that’s my ocd brain 😅But I truly love this idea of the very small granny square for a baby blanket!
These mini grannies are so adorable! Love how clearly you demonstrate you joining of them. It will be very much fun to make a blanket for my granddaughter’s dolly. Thank you!
@emmacmakes I love your name! Emma has always been my favorite girls name, somuchso I named my first Emma Grace Abigail (tradition in our family to have two middle names). I LOVE your tutorials. You're one of my top two on my "subscribed to" list of, literally, hundreds of crocheters...lol. I still have a hard time with RUclips referring to crocheting as knitting, or do I have that backwards and they say knitting as crocheting? 🤔 Hmmm... either way, crocheting and knitting are two very different crafts (to me, anyway).
Just found you on a 'short' and have subscribed. Love the join as you go technique. I have recently fallen in love with granny squares. For years I've turned my nose up at them, but there are so many beautiful works of art being taught using this old fashioned motif, I can't help but join in the fun!
Thank you for this video. A great way to use up small balls in my stash. I would also like to have a go at making a Battenburg blanket. Thanks again for such clear instructions.
Very straight forward explanation, thank you. I'm making a granny square temperature blanket for 2024 so this join is ideal. Have credited you on my Ravelry page :)
Emma! I haven't crocheted in years and this is the first project I've wanted to do! I love it! (I usually knit) AND, you sound exactly like Mr Thornton's sister in North and South! Love that film, love Northern England, and love that accent! ☺️❤️ Thank you!!
Your IG post appeared, so I immediately came over to watch and subscribe. During lockdown I had every intention of learning to knit socks!! Consequently, I have lots of yarn but no socks. Looks like wee Granny squares are going to be appearing from ALL of the lovely yarn 😊
Very pretty! And a great way to use up scraps. You could use this technique with thicker yarns also. I'm saving this to a playlist so I can try it sometime. It would make a beautiful scrappy sweater. Thanks for the tutorial.
A friend has done this with knit mitered squares with sock yarn for her daughters for when they eventually fly away to college or whatever. Each year she has edged the prior year’s progress with a few rows of a solid color yarn that is rather dark and an easy to acquire color for matching over time. She has made them to be quite large now and they look great, like yours which reminded me of them. Her name is She Must Knit on here.
Thank you for sharing this join as you go technique! I LOVE this idea of small granny squares with left over yarn pieces! Will make a cute blanket for our great-granddaughter 's dolls! ❤
This is absolutely brilliant! I love the look of the mini-grannies - so dainty and precious. :) Thank you so much for showing us this JAYG method. Your tutorial is clear and well-explained. I'll definitely be giving this a try! 😃
Your tutorial is so clear! Thank you so much. You make so, so, so much more sense than any of the others I have seen. Kudos! I have been so frustrated and this has been so helpful. 😊
Completely wonderful! I am just learning to crochet. Your tutorial is so clear, I feel like I could slowly work through this! I think my bunny rabbit doll will get a blanket! Thank you, Emma.
Really cool video, I must say when I went to join my second square to my first square, it seemed intuitive for me to join into the chain two space instead of the first chain in the new row, but it does end up correct if I follow your exact instruction. thank you
Started mine. It is really fun. I don't know how big I want to make it. Thank you for the tutorial. It was tricky for me to figure out, but like you said, I got the hang of it.
Thank you for sharing this great tutorial. Your explanation is clear and easy to understand. I’m in the middle of a move and all my crafting supplies are packed😢. I will be moving in a couple of weeks so I will be happy to resume my crocheting. I really don’t have any scraps but when the sock yarn goes on sale I will pick up a few to get started. I really love most granny squares and especially these minis ❤❤. Thanks again, Emma 🧶🌹💜gayle
This is beautiful! Thank you for sharing your techniques, I can’t wait to try it out. 😊 I hate to get rid of even the tiniest scrap of my treasured yarns; finally, after years of searching, I have found the perfect pattern. 🎉
I just started using this method of joining for a new scrap yarn blanket and love the technique! I actually think I will be using it to add my neutral coloured squares to my pre-made colourful squares in my Battenberg Blanket. Will have to join on all sides but worth the fiddling as this is the nicest joining technique in my opinion. So thank you! ☺
Thank you so much for this video. I loved your RUclips short (advent blanket) and was thrilled to find this instruction video. Thanks, too, for explaining how to join so that the lovely “join spirals” are visible on the back rather than the front (at 15:24-15:51). I can’t wait to try it both ways! I’ve subscribed and am looking forward to more videos 😊!
Brilliant tutorial, thank you Emma, been looking for this for ages, some of the tutorials are soooo complicated, I'm a left hander, I need to think carefully and need to be able to follow as I'm watching, thank you :)
Absolutely beautiful and a great way to use leftover yarn. The way you joined the first square while simultaneously completing the round of the second square was great, crochet smarter not harder!
I've only been seriously crocheting in the past year. I've never been a fan of granny stitches -- until now. You've explained it so very well. I’m comfortable with both UK. and US terminology
Blossom crochet also uses UK terminology. It's very often the Americans who only refer to their own, most British content creators refer to both.

These are absolutely adorable!
This is great cant wait to get making 😊 thank you for a great tutorial
You’re welcome! ☺️
Wonderful technique. I love crocheting but have never used sock yarn but now I want to get some!
Ooh you should get some! 🥰
🤣 I have to remember to breath relax then put the hook though on the adjoining square. I am a tight crocheter so this is a good method as long as I breath 😂
You can do it! 🥰🥰
