This is a tutorial for a corner to corner moss stitch/linen stitch blanket, a very simple but beautiful pattern that is perfect for using up mini skeins, scraps and yarn leftovers. For demonstration purposes I use Paintbox Simply DK but the lovely blanket example in the video is made using various hand dyed yarn leftovers.
Please note that I am UK based and therefore use UK crochet terminology: a UK double crochet is equivalent to a US single crochet.

Thank you! Your blanket made in sock yarn is particularly nice and drapey and the muted colours are beautiful. 😍
Thank you so much 🥰🥰
Emma, I have done many a blanket with C2C but never in moss stitch which as plain as it is, it’s so beautiful in its simplicity. I struggle with my eye sight and found it a bit hard to see stitches and spaces, where you enter your hook etc. Do you think you can re do this video using a bigger hook (perhaps chunky yarn) so that the stitches and spaces are more obvious. It would be so much appreciated by all that struggle with this simple pattern but yet so easy to go wrong at the start. 🧶🇬🇧🧶 Maria
Have you tried putting a marker around the chain space? I found that it helps me for the first handful of rounds and from there it should be more clear!
I love the idea of working corner to corner, very clever. I love the colors you used on the blanket.
Thank you so much ☺️
Thank you for such an excellent demonstration of the increase and decrease technique! 😊
You’re welcome! 🥰
This is a lovely tutorial! Thank you so much. I fell in love with your blanket on Instagram and though I'm mostly sewing and knitting and haven't done a real crochet project in ages, I think this will be my way to use up my fingering scraps. So pretty😊
You’re welcome, I’m glad you like it! 🥰
I have hesitated to start a scrappy crochet blanket, but this is really exciting to me and it will be my next blanket. I do expect mine will be a long term project, but that is OK! Thank you!
You’re welcome! I’m glad you like it - mine will be a long term project too ☺️
Thank you for a lovely clear tutorial 😊 I've tried this once before but found it tricky with a small hook and 4ply. I'll definitely have another go with a slightly bigger hook. I'm inspired by your blanket which is beautiful ❤
Thank you Caroline! It’s a bit fiddly at first but once you’ve done a few rows it’s really easy. It’s the only scrappy project I’ve ever stuck with ☺️
School pretty, so simple...I love it, excited to try it. Thank you
I'm happy to be a new subscriber to your channel, your work is gorgeous
Thank you so much! ☺️
Ooooh-I’ve always avoided corner to corner because it was so clunky. This is lovely. :-)
Thank you so much 😊
I love this ❤, i can't wait to give it a try. Thank you
Thank you! ☺️☺️
Emma, you did a great job explaining. Your blanket is so pretty.
Thank you so much! 🥰
Thank you Emma for such a lovely simple pattern 😊
You’re very welcome! 🥰
At the moment I am using this stitch to make a cardigan. I will definitely use this for adding pockets. Thanks 🙏
You’re welcome! Your cardigan sounds lovely ☺️
Wow beautiful. 💕 thank you so much. 😊
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you. Your tutorials are so precise and clear. Corner to corner with this stitch will be my next blanket - thanks to you and your blanket is beautiful.
Thank you so much! I’d love to see your blanket when you make it ☺️
Really clear tutorial. Thank you.😍
You’re welcome! ☺️
This will work perfectly for the sock yarn scrap subscription I belong to.
Sounds amazing! ☺️
Subscription?! Tell me more!
Thanks for this tuto, love this stitch. I cast on a blanket with my sock leftover yarns
Yay, that’s brilliant! ☺️
Bravo!!! excellent tutorial. Thank you so much. I hope you have a very merry Christmas 🎄🎁 and a happy new year!
Thank you! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too! 🥰🥰
Excellent tutorial. I started my own scrappy blanket now.
So happy to hear that 🥰
❤very clear thank you I'll give this ago 🌹Lovely colours
Thank you! Would love to know how you get on ☺️
Lovely work 🎉.. thanks
Thank you so much ☺️
I just chain how wide I want my blanket and sc each chain first row and then switch colors as I go along doing the moss/linen stitch. Same result I think. Love the sock yarn. I’ve always done do but this will be next for me. Lovely. Thank you.
That is nice but the corner to corner is a nice variation for a change
Great job Emma, very pretty
Thank you! ☺️
Beautiful
Thank you ☺️
Thank you for such a clear tutorial. I've always felt a little intimidated by moss stitch, which is ridiculous given that it's so simple, but your tutorial has inspired me to give it another go. Thank you.
Moss stitch creates a zig-zag effect when you use two or more colors😊
You are so welcome! ☺️ I’d love to know how you get on with it 🥰
@@emmacmakes Hi again - well I spent last weekend learning how to do this c2c moss stitch using some of my dk stash. I'm absolutely hooked! I worked quite a large triangle, attached a lining and turned it into a bag. I love this stitch so much I'm now working on a neckwarmer/cowl using the c2c method again.
@judith1564 Oh that’s brilliant to hear! It’s a very addictive stitch 🥰
Your blanket is so beautiful, I’m inspired even tho I haven’t enough scraps maybe I’ll just buy some. 😂
Thanks for a great tutorial Emma! It was really clear. I've just started one as I've been watching and I'm loving it so far! Will have to come back and watch the last bit again when I get to half way! 😆
Thanks so much Catherine! I think I will have to rewatch my own video when I come to decreasing myself 😄
@@emmacmakes 😆
Thank you for this lovely pattern.❤
Im half way through mine. The first few decrease rows.
Ive made a few blankets with intricate patterns so really enjoying not having to think lol.
Apart from which colour I want to use next. I think its my favourite.
You’re welcome! I’m glad you’re enjoying making it 🥰
Good job❤
Thank you so much ☺️
Im new to your channel wow I love this!!
Thank you so much!! 🥰
beautiful. how do you plan on weaving in all the ends? I always have problems with them sticking out.
Your blanket is lovely and the pattern is easy enough. I would like to ask about the edges of both ends. I noticed they look different from each other. Could you tell us how you addressed tying off the loose ends and if when done, the two edges look the same? Thank you!
Thank you so much 😊 The side where you change colour will look a bit looser, but once you’ve sewn the ends in it will sort it out. I just sew them in as I would any ends ☺️
Would it be possible to make a cardigan with fingerling or sock yarn and this stitch. Is there such a pattern for a classic straight cardigan. I just came back to crochet and knitting and for some reason crochet comes easier to me but I like the small close stitches of knitting. Thank you.
so beautiful blanket! what yard do you use for the blanket that you show in the beginning? The colours are beutiful! are you usig single colours yarn or multicolour yarn or do you mix?
Thank you ☺️ it’s a mix of lots of different hand dyed yarn scraps.
Such a clear tutorial! If I wanted to make this blanket rectangular rather than square, I know that I would first need to increase as per your tutorial until I got to the width I want. To then work straight to create the rectangle shape would I need to continue increasing on one side but decrease on the other? I've been trying to figure it out but my brain just keeps giving in! I'm starting this lovely blanket today with my advent leftovers.
Thank you lovely! Yes you’re right - once you’re at the size you want just increase on one side only. Could have a practise by making a mini rectangle first ☺️
@@emmacmakes I'll give it a go, thank you. I've made a start with my leftovers from the Beehive Yarns advent and I love it already! I thought perhaps I could add all my leftovers to it throughout the year.
Hello Emma lovely tutorial can I just ask what size crochet hook do you need for 4 ply sock yarn thank you
Thank you so much 😊 I use a 3.5mm for 4ply sock yarn 💕
Lovely tutorial. What size crochet hook do you use with the sock weight yarn?
Thank you ☺️ I’m using a 3.5mm hook.
I love this and thinking of using some of my advent yarns… Any ideas how much 4ply yarn I would need for a 1 metre square in grams? Thanks
I’m just over halfway with mine which measures roughly one metre across - popped it on the scales and it’s 380g atm so you would need just under double that.
Thanks so much Emma - this is a fantastic tutorial. I am hoping to do one of these - but have a question (a general scrap yarn crochet question..).. does it matter if some of my yarn is acrylic, some cotton, some combination of both... if it's of the same weight, does the composition of the yarn make a difference? I have a lot of acrylic, but also some really lovely small left overs of cotton and the colours would go so well! But when I wash the blanket - will the cotton parts wash differently and change shape or anything?? Long question, sorry, but thank you also!
Thank you! 🥰 Personally I would be happy to combine different yarns as long as they were the same weight; for me that’s one of the plus points of scrappy blankets ☺️ As long as you are careful with it (handwash, dry flat etc) it will be fine I think ☺️
Perfect!!! Thank you so much.
Your blanket is very pretty. What size hook did you use for sock yarn?
Thank you ☺️ I’ve used a 3.5mm hook 💕
I love the blanket but I am not wanting to have all those ends to work in. Is there another way to do this? Thanks so much.
You could crochet over the ends as you work the next row ☺️
will this have the same drape as a moss stitch worked flat/normally?
Yes, just make sure you go up a hook size or two ☺️
Salve come vanno fermati tutti i fili tagliati? grazie
Are there written instructions with stitch counts? After 5 rows I Have a very cute Fan.
Hi, sorry but I don’t have any written instructions 💕
This is a lovely and EASY stitch, but I would be worried about all of those tails raveling with heavy usage 😳
Do you have any tutorials on what to do with yarn tails at the end of a project?
I’m hoping to have a tutorial on how to sew in ends up on RUclips in the next few days ☺️
I have just uploaded a tutorial on this ☺️
What do you do with all those ends?
I’ve seen them in ☺️ You can always crochet over them/use a magic knot if you don’t want to do that.
Single or double??
A UK double which is equivalent to a US single ☺️
Me too❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Cela ressemble à l’excavation blanket au crochet
Long tails = so much wasted yarn
Not if you are making a fringe
Why are you whispering? I had to turn my volume full up.
🙄
why do you call a single a double it's makes it concussing is it a single or not
British call it double crochet for US single crocher
Because she is from the Uk!
She says at the beginning that if you're used to U.S. terminology then it's called a SC
Concussing?
