Your vintage Bernina is so beautiful. My dad was abusive. When my mom went back to school and then to work; the FIRST thing she bought when she had her own money was a Bernina 830 (it was 1979). She ended up selling it a few years later for pennies in consequence of post-divorce poverty. She has sewn on horrible low-end plastic machines since. My siblings and I just acquired a used Bernina 830 in pristine condition to give her for her 80th birthday. I am outfitting it now with all of the vintage presser feet that will fit it that I can find. I hope it brings a sense of restoration. ☮

So very thoughtful of you and your siblings ❤ When my Mom passed away I cleaned out her home and found all sorts of treasures that we kids had made for her, she saved drawings, silly handmade cards, tiny trinkets. Many of those little things I had forgot about, it was a revelation to me that she’d kept all those things for all those years. I was so grateful that I was able to help her in her last years in different ways, it made me feel like I was able to give back to her some of the work, money, time she spent on me throughout my life. I imagine your mother will be over the moon with such a thoughtful gift.

I agree. It really is such a shame how so many useful life skills aren’t being taught in schools these days. We had cooking, sewing, ceramics, calligraphy, typing, stenography, Spanish, French, wood shop, metal shop, and mechanics (probably a few I’m forgetting), in my high school back in the early 80’s. My boys had mechanics, wood shop, Spanish and Home Ec at their high school in the early 2000’s. I believe that’s a big part of the issues with youth in this generation. They aren’t taught the basics of life skills. I had to teach my Grandson (13), how to thread a needle. I then taught him to sew. He loved it so much that he asked for a sewing machine for his birthday.

    • @rachelkeller6378

Same here. I hold the hook in my right hand and move the yarn with my left hand.
That is a true shame that these skills aren't being taught. We should volunteer to teach them and bring them back.

    • @marionsworld24

I think in the 'olden days' you were just expected to learn with your right because no-one wanted to think how to show us lefties how.... I remember it taking me ages to get my right hand to do it. But all these years later it's just so quick, even if I seem to be holding the hook a little awkwardly. It is a shame crafts aren't taught anymore. Without being on a soapbox or anything, I do think it's part of the de-valuing of what has been traditionally been seen as 'women's work'

I’ve not seen a fusion crochet quilt before. Love that sage color cotton yarn you are using to crochet them together! You have so many neat tutorials! Many years ago I knitted, crocheted, cross-stitched, even tried hooking a rug once. You inspire me so much to dig out those crochet hooks again. This gives me an idea on how to use some of my cross-stitch projects I stitched up back in the 1970’s and 1980s. At the beginning of the year I was in the bin where they are waiting for me to do a special something with them. Thank you for sharing your beautiful crochet quilt with us!! This project might just where they need to live from now on!!

I have never seen that blanket stitch tip using a paper with measured tick lines to keep your line of blanket stitches equidistant. Brilliant! Thank you for this entire tutorial. You have combined my two favourite crafts: Quilting and Crochet. And it just looks fabulous!! 🌹🌹🌹

I'm so happy to have finished it... 😊 The paper thing is quite an old way of helping to keep stitches even. Some people used to put the marks on the side of their thumb 😅

This is easy because the separate squares are so quickly made. You could even change to long strips or hexagons. Then just use appropriate crochet to put them together..

Just discovered you Marion and your work is lovely. I lived in Yorkshire for nearly 20 years and it’s lovely to hear your voice, and that you say “crochering”, just like my mother-in- law did, instead of “crocheying” -we who pretend we’re French! Sometimes I say “crochetting” because I’m musical!
I really love that duck egg, eau de nil cotton yarn, it’s my favourite go-with-anything colour. Why on earth would anyone discontinue it!
Right, I’m off to delve into your other videos! Thank you

You've got me thinking now 🤔 I do say cro-shay... But I put the t in when adding the ing...😂
I love the colour too..did you notice my dress is virtually the same? 😊

I enjoy crocheting simple squares and rectangles to use as coasters or soap holders or face clothes. There’s no pressure as
I was learning. If they turn out a bit wonky, it doesn’t matter. Little by little, I have improved. Give it a go!

Things are easy for people who know how to do them..... I find the filming difficult as I am still learning about lighting and focus etc. I don't find it easy at all yet others will say they find it easy...
You don't have to learn how. Just enjoy the things you do like to do... :)
