Freezer paper was one of the star quilting supplies back in the early 1990s before we had so much bespoke kit for quilting. I used it for all of these things back then. I think I still have that roll. I started quilting again 2 years ago after a 25+ year hiatus (and have actually just about completed my UFOs from back then-two on their way to longarmer, one has two sides of hand sewing binding left, and two more completely done!)

Oh my gosh, I just bought some water soluble tear away, which works great, but this method is genius. I bought a whole 12" thick role of freezer paper along time ago and only use it for applique. I see this will really be helpful. Thank you and congratulations, 400K. Think of all the people you've helped, you've worked hard to make so many of us better at what we love.

Congratulation on your continued growth. It was fun to listen to a friend who just discovered you, a kid in a candy store! On freezer paper, if you want it thicker, you can iron sheets together [help if you iron them first before layering], also for longer strips, just over lap them, iron and you have a longer strip. Also, you can iron cut outs to a quilt top and then quilt around them, no markings on the top.

I've used freezer paper for the last 40 years for my garment sewing, I ironed my very thin tissue like clothing patterns onto this paper to make my patterns thicker and last much much longer. You are the first sewist I have seen on YT that has shown this hack. Thank you very much for sharing the many ways one can use this very useful paper! Congratulations on your 400K!

Another great group of lessons on freezer paper, I especially like the idea of printing labels on to fabric. I did hand write and embroider my first couple of quilts but that soon went by the way. I confess I have been lazy the last 5 or so years, I have made about a dozen quilts for charity and thought a label didn’t matter on them, but I need to rethink that attitude now 😊😊

You know, I love bold colors and certainly am drawn to certain colors. The thing I love most about quilting is the variety of colors, moods and themes you can create and get out of your head, moving to great additions to projects rather than limiting yourself. Some of my best times are created when I have a shared concept with a person I am making the quilt for! 😊

Good topic! I have a couple rolls but still haven't used it. Nice to get a brush up on it's use. Thanks Karen.

My mother actually used wax paper to clean starch off her iron. Run the hot iron over the wax paper then over a scrap of muslin several times until iron is clean. Works like a charm. What great useable ideas for that fat roll freezer paper I have,

Congrats on your latest milestone! And thank you for this video, I was not interested in trying paper piecing (all that hand-sewing!) until I learned it could be done with freezer paper and my machine. It's really fun.

Fantastic news on your 400,00 achievement. I use the pre-cut sheets whenever I am doing paper piecing. Using that method has made paper piecing so freeing

I cut the Reynolds roll of Freezer paper to 8.5x11 sheets and let them sit flat under a weight for a few days. They go through my printer with no issues. I love FPP with freezer paper!

I love this video! I’ve used freezer paper several times. I was asked to make 12 memory bears, all out of bathrobe fabric, which wasn’t the suggested fabric type. The freezer paper was great to cut out the pieces. Also, I was making tea cozies, over 100, and used it for the circle at the bottom of the cozy.

I'm not surprised that you have reached 400,000 subscribers. Even though I've been quilting since the late 1970's, I always learn something new and\or get inspired from watching your excellent videos.
I use Kim Diehl's Best Applique Freezer Paper in our printer without having to bond it to paper first. Just make sure the print goes on the unwaxed side.
Great idea using it as a stabilizer on bias edges.
I have used scraps of freezer paper to start or end a seam that wants to "chewed up" and a leader or ender doesn't do the trick. I put the freezer paper under the fabric for the first few stitches and then tear it off later. These situations are usually on non quilt projects.

Aaaah, thank you for showing Piece 1 and Piece 2 so clearly! Every other tutorial glosses over getting started with FPP, but that’s the most confusing step. Also, thank you for the printer usage instructions. I just splurged on the letter size freezer paper.

Congrats on 400K subscribers! Well earned and I love the award your husband crafted.
For turned edge appliqué, I recently experimented with parchment paper. It is transparent enough the easily trace the exact design shape. A glue pen works great to hold the folded edges in place for stitching. Before I finish the stitching, I lift the fabric and the entire parchment form easily releases and pops out. Then I stitch down the last section. Usually I choose a gentle curve or straight away rather than a point or sharpe turn as the spot to release the form. The light weight parchment may require a gentler treatment while gluing the edge, but there is no longer a need to cut into the back of the background fabric to remove the freezer paper. I believe this will extend the life of the quilt.
