Sooo I love this. I decided to make a temperature blanket this year with this moss stitch square. Starting each square (one for each month) with a white center base, then each day of the month will add the designated color. At the end of the month, I will add another white border. At the end of the year I will sew all 12 moss stitch squares together so that you can easily go to any day of any month and see the temperature that day. Will add more white border to all months that make a total of 31 rounds. Might look slightly jenky but I’m up for an adventure. I will report back next Jan. 😂
Hello Emma! I just discovered your channel a few weeks ago. I fell in love with your tutorial for scrap mini squares. I instantly subscribed and binge watched a few more of your videos as well ❤. I ran across the video where you mentioned you pulled all of your videos down awhile ago and then Reloaded them and restarted your channel. Thank you for reloading the videos. I am so appreciative of your talent and you sharing your love of the craft with others. You have no idea how much you have been a blessing to me. Thank you for this moss stitch scrap tutorial as well. I can’t wait to use up my minis and scraps on this pattern , but first I have to finish the mini crochet square blanket 😂 ❤❤
Thank you; thank you; thank you! I followed each step that you so skillfully explained, and I've successfully completed ten rounds with color changes in each. And it looks great.
Emma, I am a new viewer & subscribed. This square with the moss stitch is beautiful! I’m a little rusty, haven’t crocheted for quite a while. My sister wants to learn to crochet…this looks like a good pattern to teach a very new crocheter! Thank you!
I am a lifetime knitter. I have dabbled in crochet here in Canada 🇨🇦 but have never found such easy and beautiful tutorials! Your colour choices are gorgeous! I think I will be trying all of your tutorials starting with this one. I also spin yarn and dye yarn and I am excited to try the moss stitch with some of my handspun yarn 🩵
I’ve had so many problems with the way most people start the Moss stitch square. Your method is very different and I absolutely love it and I can’t wait to start on making a Moss stitch square afghan using your method-thank you!
Hi Emma, I'm new to your channel and I'm totally mesmerized at how clear and easy you have described the moss stitch square. I totally love it. I started watching then was so excited that I went and got some wool and a hook and tried it as I was watching. I usually only do granny squares for blankets, not knowing what else to do, but now there will be no stopping me. Many, many thanks and please keep those wonderful tutorials coming, Diane x
What a fantastic tutorial with a gorgeous effect, you explain everything so well. I'm very new to crochet but have been hoarding Minis for years and you've given me the confidence to give this a try, thank you Emma. ❤
Great tutorial. - thanks!!! I kind of lucked out finding you, it was very random. You deserve all the coverage. It would be great if you kept Ravelry up to date, and at least listed your patterns there - like this one - so folks could link their projects and appreciate you even more. Plus another way to find you!!!
Go for it! You won't be sorry.😊 Crochet is fantastic and has helped so many people in many ways. Her videos are very good for learning if you use UK terms.I don't use them but as an advanced crocheter I can revise them in my mind. Advise as she says reading her descriptions she gives under her video titles if you live anywhere else besides the UK, as the terms would likely be very confusing.US terms really aren't US terms as most of the world uses them but either way she is an excellent teacher. Also highly recommend , It's all in a Nutshell for beginners. Excellent for beginners- advanced. 💕🧶
This was wonderful to follow. I am new to crochet and i am in the US once I reminded myself that your double crochet is equal to our single crochet it was super easy to follow. I love learning new stitches and this was great. Do you by chance have a video on granny squares? I feel like the beginning of this is how you would start one. Thank you so much for the video!
I think this would be a really great pattern to add to Ravelry where people can upload their scrappy blankets/projects to share with this great video!!
Thank you for the pattern. 🩷 I’m primarily a knitter but I saw this and I’m giving it a go. How does one connect to previous round if you're not changing colors.
Loved the video. Very pretty result. Thank you for reminding that the UK double is a US single. My only request is a notation of the pattern at the beginning of the round.
I love this! I have so many little balls of sock yarn! I have started making this, but I am mostly a knitter so this is new to me. Can you show a video of how to best weave in ends for a moss square? Thanks for a great tutorial!❤❤
I don’t know why I’ve never thought of doing this, thank you so much for a fresh crochet idea! I’m making one now, but I always struggle with alternating colours in a way that looks good, have you got any suggestions? Thank you! 🧶🧡
I always do one or two rows per colour and just try to space them out evenly; with bold/dark colours I’ll make sure I only use them every now and again whereas lighter ones I’ll use more often etc.
Buenas tardes. Acabo de descubrir tu canal y me he enamorado de su contenido.Vivo en España y te agradecería me dijeras que tipo de lana utilizas. Simplemente gracias.
I love this tutorial. Any idea what you might make with this? (I realize this is a long term project and maybe you are using up yarn scraps/leftovers. Thank you.
Ooof!! You already addressed how to continue with just one color. My apologies. I should’ve watched the video in its entirety. Again, thank you for the lovely pattern. 🩷
Here's a little list to help those who don't know the UK equivalent, I would write it down. UK double treble = US treble UK treble = US double UK double = US single
I love your designs and tutorials, I was wondering how you took care of all the lose threads on the Moss stitch pattern, I watched the one where you show how to crochet over the ends, but you do not do that in this one. Do you use the same method or do something else? Thanks!
I never knew that the Uk is using different terminology for the stitches!! That’s so interesting. What do you call a double crochet then if your single crochet is a double crochet? ☺️
Just found you. I love this square! I am a k itter, but have had a longing to go back to my crocheting roots. So normalling you'd use a 4 ply (fingering weight). Do you use a wooly yarn or an acrylic? Do you have a favorite yarn for this?
Grazie per il tutorial e per il bellissimo lavoro! Ho provato ma quando guardo la mia piastrella c'è un effetto "a spirale" mentre la sua piastrelle ha tutti i giri perfetti! Forse sbaglio qualcosa 🤔. Grazie ancora ! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hello! Thank you for the tutorial. I am curious about how to manage the ends, especially when turning work over to keep a straight square. Do you weave your ends in? Again, thanks for the tutorial.
Fantastic pattern! I'm starting mine today. Do you weave in the ends similar to how you did it with your corner to corner moss stitch blanket? Thanks for sharing this!
You can use any yarn as long as you use the appropriate hook size. I’ve used 4 ply yarn and a 3.5mm hook for mine, and for the tutorial demonstration I use DK yarn and a 4mm hook.
Hi again, do you have the pattern written down anywhere or can you write down, sometimes I think I may be missing a step, and have to keep watching the tutorials over and over, I tried writing it out, but I still think I am missing something.
I love this stitch, it looks a bit knitted and it drapes very nice...and it is a joy to crochet aswell😊

Thank you so much and I will bear that in mind for future tutorials ☺️
Me encantan tus trabajos, aunque no entiendo las explicaciones ,son todos muy bonitos!
New sub! This is great!
Yay! Thank you! ☺️
I love this! I have so many little balls of sock yarn! I have started making this, but I am mostly a knitter so this is new to me. Can you show a video of how to best weave in ends for a moss square? Thanks for a great tutorial!❤❤
You’re welcome, I’m glad you like it! I have a tutorial that shows how I sew in the ends for moss stitch in my tutorials playlist ☺️
This is beautiful Emma!

Thank you! 😊
Beautiful 🤩 ❤
Would look really nice in ron weasley blanket colours.....time to test that theory
Beautiful.
This is beautiful!! So simple!
What are some ideas for these squares? What kind of yarn is good for a hot pad?
I don’t know why I’ve never thought of doing this, thank you so much for a fresh crochet idea! I’m making one now, but I always struggle with alternating colours in a way that looks good, have you got any suggestions?
Thank you! 🧶🧡

I love this tutorial. Any idea what you might make with this? (I realize this is a long term project and maybe you are using up yarn scraps/leftovers. Thank you.
I'm going to make a blanket with mine, but if you wanted some smaller project ideas you could make cushion covers, placemats or even coasters :-)
the yarn in your sock yarn example is glorious where would i go to buy some please
Ooof!! You already addressed how to continue with just one color. My apologies. I should’ve watched the video in its entirety. Again, thank you for the lovely pattern. 🩷
No problem at all and you’re welcome! Glad you like it 🥰🥰
Here's a little list to help those who don't know the UK equivalent, I would write it down.
UK double treble = US treble
UK treble = US double
UK double = US single
Love it! Ta 🙏
What yarn is used? What colors? Thank you for your work.
You’re welcome! I’m using 4 ply hand dyed yarn ☺️
I love your designs and tutorials, I was wondering how you took care of all the lose threads on the Moss stitch pattern, I watched the one where you show how to crochet over the ends, but you do not do that in this one. Do you use the same method or do something else? Thanks!
I just sew them in but you could use the same technique and crochet over them if you prefer ☺️
Thank you very much! Very simple pattern for a beginner
How to change yarn but not in a corner please?
You would join with a standing stitch in any space along, and then chain one and continue working the moss stitch around ☺️
I never knew that the Uk is using different terminology for the stitches!! That’s so interesting. What do you call a double crochet then if your single crochet is a double crochet? ☺️
Our double crochet is a treble crochet. It’s all very confusing! 😄
Emma you may have said those ends do you thread those thru please thankyou
Yes I just thread them under the base of the stitches. There’s a tutorial on how I do it on my tutorial playlist ☺️
@@emmacmakes thanks 😊 love your careful approach
If you dont change colors do how you turn your work over like you mentioned in the video towards the beginning?
You would chain one and then turn the square over, before working your dc, ch2, dc into the corner space. Sorry I didn’t explain this in the video!
Just found you. I love this square! I am a k itter, but have had a longing to go back to my crocheting roots.
So normalling you'd use a 4 ply (fingering weight). Do you use a wooly yarn or an acrylic? Do you have a favorite yarn for this?
Thank you! I use hand dyed sock yarn as I tend to have lots left over. It’s usually 85% merino 15% nylon. I rarely use acrylic or anything else ☺️
Grazie per il tutorial e per il bellissimo lavoro!
Ho provato ma quando guardo la mia piastrella c'è un effetto "a spirale" mentre la sua piastrelle ha tutti i giri perfetti!
Forse sbaglio qualcosa 🤔. Grazie ancora ! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Beautiful !!!! Hook size for your 4 ply please 😊
It’s a 3.5mm hook ☺️
@@emmacmakes thankyou,,,,, Love your work 🤗
Hello! Thank you for the tutorial. I am curious about how to manage the ends, especially when turning work over to keep a straight square. Do you weave your ends in? Again, thanks for the tutorial.
Yes I do :-) You can also crochet over them if you prefer.
Can you tell me what weight yarn you are using and what size hook. Is this a wool, cotton, or a blend? Thank you, your designs are beautiful.
It’s 4ply yarn, 85% merino and 15% nylon and I’m using a 3.5mm hook ☺️
Fantastic pattern! I'm starting mine today. Do you weave in the ends similar to how you did it with your corner to corner moss stitch blanket? Thanks for sharing this!
You’re welcome! Yes, just sew them in the same way ☺️
How would you knit the squares together? I’m obsessed and on my 10th square. :)
You could join as you go, or crochet them together ☺️ I am making one very big square 🥰
Bellissimo
Thank you ☺️
Hi Emma, why is it called moss stitch when you’re always doing a double crochet? Thanks for your video, the hand dyed yarn makes a gorgeous fabric.
You’re welcome ☺️ Moss stitch does consist of double crochets with chain spaces in between.
Hola,es el punto medio punto?
Idk if I missed this but what size needle and yarn are you using or does it matter!?
You can use any yarn as long as you use the appropriate hook size. I’ve used 4 ply yarn and a 3.5mm hook for mine, and for the tutorial demonstration I use DK yarn and a 4mm hook.
Puede uno hacerlo mucho más grande el cuadrado para una cobija?? Necesita hacerle aumentos O la tejemos igual??
Just keep on adding rounds the same way ☺️
Hi again, do you have the pattern written down anywhere or can you write down, sometimes I think I may be missing a step, and have to keep watching the tutorials over and over, I tried writing it out, but I still think I am missing something.
I don’t have written instructions at the moment, sorry 💕
I’m curious about the weight of your yarn.
It’s 4ply sock yarn ☺️
What brand name of yarns 9:01
Size of hook
👍🏻🙏
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
🥰🥰🥰
But I thought we’d see what you did with all those tails?
I need a tutorial where the colours don't change. I'm getting too confused.
Tu dices double crochet pero yo veo un simple crochet? 😮
Please see the description - I use U.K. terminology ☺️
En Español plis
There are subtitles available in Spanish ☺️
Can the moss stitch be used to create mosaic crochet? And, how to do the moss stitch in the round? Thank you.
You wouldn’t be able to use it to do mosaic crochet no, you’d have to use the overlay mosaic technique ☺️
👍👍👍👍👍
Very pretty! I like the moss stitch. I might just attempt this and make a throw by continuing the stitch to make one huge square. 💜🧶
Sounds lovely! 🥰
