Thanks for this brilliant tutorial, I have been in isolation for 13 months and these kinds of videos are keeping me sane. I am so excited to make one of these. I am a beginner so this is next level for me. I feel a cushion coming on! Best regards to you from South Africa 🇿🇦💫
Oh my gosh-I totally need to make a cushion in these grannies!! A few other people have said they were as well! Don’t forget to share pictures of your beautiful work on Instagram @nautikrallcrochet !! Can’t wait to see them! ❤️ from 🇨🇦
Darning the ends in as you go is the most effective way to ensure they don't come loose during washing. I've used both methods over the years and I can assure you, as painful as it is, darning is by far the superior method.
Not only is the square beautiful, but the way you show to weave in the ends is a game changer for me haha. I've made so many granny squares and never thought of that method!
Most Beautiful flower I have seen. I watched the video first so tomorrow I need to buy more yarn! I just started making granny squares, and this is really fun for me. I subscribed to your channel and I can't wait to make this Lovely flower. Thank you for making this easier for me. thank s for the video and your time.

OMG! After hearing you say you don't carry the yarn over on the last round because the little bit that shows drives you crazy...YES!!! I just did one last night where I carried the yarn and when I flipped it I was like, "OH NO!!!! that looks horrible!!!" haha This video is perfect, I can't wait to try your method of joining at the end of the circle. I wasn't happy with how mine were turning out after watching some previous videos, but yours seems PERFECT!
Thank you for this tutorial. I learned new techniques from you. Your instruction was great for the first three rounds on the last round you kind of dropped off, saying that you assumed we knew the basic stitches. Whether we knew the basic stitches or not, you were extremely hard for me to follow.😮
Thank you for the tips on weaving in the ends! Genius! Everything is explained perfectly and a beautiful square that will make many pretty items. Thank you!! 🎉😊

Just got a bunch of blanket yarn and this is going to be my cozy project. I know the squares will be larger than the pattern but I plan on going until I think it’s big enough lol😅love your pattern! Can’t wait to get started
This is great! I've been working for hours following your instructions. I made 1 Sunburst square- 1 colour like your first video, knowing it was my very first granny square. And now, I'm following this for adding additional colours. I found on my first 1 there was a hole going from first row to second. I think I did something wrong when I tied off first row. I think I figured it out while watching this video. I made a baby blanket 20 years ago - 1 giant bubble granny square. I'm hoping to make a bunch of squares and join them for a summer blanket. Exciting.
Hi thank you so much. I wish I had seen this video before. Your work is sooo beautiful. I love all the tips you show to make neat work. Many thanks and love 💕🙏🙏❤️
Thank you so much for this tutorial. You really made it easy for me to learn it. I love this granny square. I will be practicing this. Can you just continue going around to make a blanket?
So excited to have found you. Love this blanket; I've been looking for a granny sq blanket to make; love your patterns. Thank you so much for taking the time to show us how to make this gorgeous blanket. Stay safe and well. Vivian in Georgia
I love the way how you crochet and how you explain very satisfied! But I have a problem my hook doesn’t go easily through the cluster stitch what is the trick to make this mission possible thanks
Practice, practice, practice....and make sure your loops are nice and loose. Now is not the time for tight tension--pull the loops up to the height of a double crochet. That should help :)
I LOVE this pattern and am totally making the Hygge burst blanket as we speak with the recommended yarn and colors because I love your style and colors. So happy to have found your blog. Questions for you - 1) Do you have a strategy for keeping the squares organized while you're building them? I don't immediately recognize all of the colors. 2) Do you build the squares one at at time or do you do parts of them while you're working a specific color? This is my first time building a blanket of this size and variety. I'm sure if I mix up the squares it isn't such a big deal but I like to follow patterns to the letter my first time doing them. Thanks!
Hi Jill! So when I first made the blanket I was just putting squares together at random and laid them all out on the bed and then joined them up later. However, I’ve made it a few times since then and got to follow my own pattern-I do the squares in order…starting with square 1 and I stack them up to square 8. Just one on top of the other so that 8 is on top. THEN I do the continuous join and out that row together. It conveniently has my 8th square on top so I just crochet a rock my row all the way down my pile. Then I start working the squares for my second row the exact same way. This is how I’ve found it easiest to do. Hope it helps ☺️

Anyways, I watched a lot of tutorials and yours is the best by far, very nice technique to weave the tail in back loops of the rounds, going to save me TONS of time!
Amazing video! The biggest challenge for me is to find a similar yarn with nice colors and cozy texture. Are u using acrylic or a blend? Really looking forward to crochet your blanket
Thank you so much for this amazing (and soo fun, love your humor *May Day May Day*😆 ) tutorial. I started crocheting when the pandemic started and have got a little comfortable with the stitches and pattern, however, this sunburst granny square was just not coming out 'Square' *sigh*! Loved the video and finally my blanket/table cover/shawl (not sure what I am going to make yet 😜) can progress a little! 😊
Thank you for the this video. It is very helpful. I have one question. I originally got the pattern for this blanket and printed it out. When making round 4 of the square it says to chain 2 when making corners, but on your video it says to chain 3. I'm going to make another practice piece and try it with the chain 2 and see which is better I guess.
Yep- I tend to mix it up depending on the blanket/pattern. Always follow the written instructions in the pattern-the tutorials are just meant to be visual aids :)
I am not able to access the tutorial on how to join these beautiful squares. I have tried every imaginable combination of possibilities. It's hard to tell if there are "1" or "l". Please help!!

Thanks!! I’m always trying to avoid sewing as much as possible. So, for me, the invisible join is an extra, unnecessary step-also, once all the squares are joined up, you won’t see any knots anyways. ☺️
For the Nordic Star Sunburst blanket, could you please let me know which yarn you used? My granddaughter has asked me to make a blanket similar to this & she loves the yarn colors. Thank you for any help you can give me.
Hi i have been looking for the granny square folded in the middle and sewn on tea towel to hang over stove I did like that one and wanted to do it . I hope you can help me . Thank u
Can anyone tell me how many stitches these are one each side ? I have another style I love that is 21 stitches on each of the 4 sides and I'd like to use both to make a blanket, is there some way to measure this universally for all granny squares? Do you just count visually?
Hi Samantha, you can make it about 1-2 rounds bigger before turning it into a square. Anymore than that and it curls in on itself pretty bad-I have a “large sunburst” tutorial if you check out my video section. It shows how to put another round on!
Absolutely!! I use DK and sport all the time…if you check out my website Nautikrallcrochet.com there are several free patterns written up with this sunburst in DK weight yarn ❤
Question that I hope you'll see and answer! In this video you say to chain 3 at the corners with the treble crochet. But on your pattern for the Hygge blanket, it specifically says chain 2. Which is correct?
Either one works-however I always suggest following the written instructions in a pattern. The videos were filmed long before the patterns were written and they are only meant as visual guides to accompany the patterns. Hope this helps!! ♥️
I figured it out. I am just doing a double crochet all the way around and decreased the corner chains from 3 to 2 . I guess I could also do triple crochet all the way around as well?
Oh gosh! There’s so many kinds. I’m a big fan of natural fibres-so merino, wool, cotton for clothing. I find acrylic doesn’t wear well (gets super pilly) and is sweaty when wearing it. My fav (affordable) merino is Swish Worsted from WeCrochet/Knit Picks. My favourite traditional wool is a tweed yarn called Wool of the Andes Worsted by WeCrochet/Knit Picks and I love Paintbox Cotton Aran (available on lovecrafts.com) for wearables!!
I made one yesterday super easy but today I tried to make another but I wasn’t lucky maybe because of my type yarn I’m working with cotton 3 with hook 3.5 , I can say that wasn’t fun I was struggling to pull my hook trough the stitches … I’m beginner what kind of yarn shall I work such kind of project ? Thanks
Cotton is really tricky for beginners. Cotton yarn tends to have very little (if any at all) stretch or give to it. So it's best to start out with other natural fibers like wool/merino or try acrylic. They'll all be a lot more forgiving than a cotton yarn. Once you get the hang of it--definitely try cotton again because it gives the puff stitches the most wonderful texture and vintage kind of vibe. :)
