The thing I love the most about granny squares is that you kind of complete a part of the project after every square. It always feels like WOW I completed something and get to start over with a new square lol as someone who goes to school and work full time I find it hard to complete any projects, so it's nice to be able to feel like you accomplished something quickly... even if you needed what seems to feel like a MILLION squares you still get that satisfaction from completing something.
For anyone who doesn't know, the light green row where she says she doesn't know the name, is a Double Crochet 4 Together cluster. The pattern abbreviation is dc4tog, but it could be any number of stitches being worked together. 3 stitches is dc3tog, 10 is dc10tog and so on. Happy stitching! Big thanks for this super helpful video. Your voice is so much easier to listen to than a lot of yarn RUclipsrs, very chill and straightforward 💙😊
Not only is the granny square pretty but I love the color combinations used in the granny. It is happy feeling. An entire afghan made of those granny squares would be beautiful and comforting.

I've been trying to learn how to crochet for almost a month now. I decided to learn by watching and following tutorials on how to make granny squares coz I felt like it would make learning much more enjoyable and thank goodness I was right! Now, I'm even more motivated to learn. I followed along to this amazing tutorial and learned so much and made my first ever granny square. Definitely far from perfect but, I'm still so proud of myself. Thank you so much for this!
I found you in March and was ready to learn a new stitch. I have crochetted countless traditional granny squares so this was really easy. I did in pinks, blues, yellows, and light greens all ready for a little boy due in October. Thank you. You're doing a great job.
I learned simple, basic crochet when I was a little girl, but never really advanced much past sc, dc and chain and slip stitches. Only recently did I learn how to do a basic granny square, and how to crochet in the round. Thanks to RUclips and the internet, I got back into crochet and I've learned SO MUCH. All kinds of new stitches, all kinds of different ways to do things, and now I've just learned how to make this sunburst granny square. I actually made my first afghan last year, after starting one using only dc and sc and getting bored with it because the stitching just looked so bland. I learned how to do a granny stripe, and it looked so pretty that I completely frogged that bland afghan and used the yarn to start over... and that granny stripe afghan looks GORGEOUS, in all different shades of pastel solid and variegated yarn ('Monet', by Red Heart with solids that appear in the Monet) and soft cream! It even has a shell edge on it... so, I decided it was time to learn how to make squares. I started the basic granny square, learned ways to work out the 'tilt' that sometimes shows up so now I make nice straight squares that don't tilt anymore... and it was time to learn new kinds of squares... like this one. This stitch reminds me of a Texas wildflower called the Firewheel (Gaillardia), so once I really get good with this square, I might make an afghan for my friend, in the colors of the Firewheel flower. Firewheel flower... farm66.static.flickr.com/65535/48106882232_82fd4f02ce_b.jpg
I love this tutorial. I just finished my first granny square quilt. And now that im working on a different kind of crochet quilt. I always think "yarn over, insert, yarn over come out, yarn over pull through two .. ect ect " and you saying it Outloud stuck with me & continues to help me even with different projects!! Thank you ❤
I'm starting to learn how to crochet just now and this is my fist project, a table cloth full of granny squares. my first attempt was an epic fail, as I tried to read it in different recipes sites, but then I've decided to try again with this video and I'm so proud to say I could actually do it. it does not look as perfect as hers, but I am really happy I made it. Also, English is not my first language, so being able to learn the terms for all of it in English made me feel accomplished. thank you so much for your video, it's a great job.
I used this pattern to make sunflower potholders for my niece as a housewarming present. Brown for the first 2 rows, gold, and then green for the outer square part. They came out lively.
thank you for the amazing tutorial!! i have a little experience with crocheting (started 8 months ago) and this was such a clear tutorial that i think someone with no experience would be able to follow along too:) I want to make a whole blanket with this design now...
For the newbies out there like myself, while doing the puff stitches, if you keep your working hand pointing finger on the yarn while going in and out of the stitch, it really helps. I would always slip yarn off or make a mess of it. It just keeps the stitch neat and orderly 😊
I've never crocheted before and I found this pattern through a friend suggesting it and gave it a go. while I think my tension may be slightly tight, its turned out wonderfully and I'll be using it to make granny squares from all the scraps from my knitting projects and make possinly a bag? a lap blanket perhap.either way it was quite easy to follow though I had to pause several times.
I know this video is like 4 years old but I just recently found it and it has to be one of my very favorite things to crochet, I really like the way it turns out and it looks good with so many color combinations, easy to make, thanks to this video and best of all IT HAS PUFF STITCHES!!!! Which I now know I love! Thanks for the video!!!!!
You did an amazing job on this video ! The " unknown " stitch are just Incompleted double crochet stitches . When you apply it to the pattern you just would say crochet 4 together . Love your videos , they are very easy to follow

That was one of my first projects! I made a bigger than king-sized granny square for our bed when I got married. After that I made another giant granny square and entered it into a contest at the Grange here in Texas. It was my very first contest and I won the blue ribbon for it! I miss that blanket. I don't know what happened to it. :0( I still have my ribbon, though. :0)

Hey you look so young! I suppose you are. Some (ugly) people tell me that I began to like crocheting because I am getting older! I pay no attention to them :) I love crocheting. Your tutorials are so simple and easy to understand. Thank you!!!!!
I learned how to crochet when i was 6 by my grandmother and ive now taught my younger brother and husband its a hobby for any age some people are too rude to realize its a beautiful artform
Lisa, my Oma taught me crochet when I was little, maybe 8 or 9. She taught me on white number 10 crochet thread (GAH)! I started out making lots and lots of chains, and then decorative flowery bookmarks with single, double and treble crochet. My husband can crochet, too! Anyone who says that you like crochet because you're getting older will be the ones who won't get the cool handmade gifts from you - let them drool over the beautiful scarves, sweaters and blankets that everyone else gets. Haters gonna miss out. :)
My grandmother learned when she was five and made Clones* lace blouses, gloves, tablecloths, and a mountain of other things. I've taken it up in the last few years (in my 20's) and try to make gifts for family on special occasions to continue the tradition. * "Clone-iss" is a small town in Ireland, after which the Clones Knot and a style of Irish crochet lace is named. Also where I'm from. :)
Ignore those very ugly people. I'm thirteen years old, and I've been knitting for years as a hobby. I'm just starting to learn crochet, and it's great! Just do what you love to do, and don't let them get to you ❤

I’m a super novice crocheter and absolutely love how you explain each step slowly. Also love this pattern. Thank you for posting this tutorial!
I found you in March and was ready to learn a new stitch. I have crochetted countless traditional granny squares so this was really easy. I did in pinks, blues, yellows, and light greens all ready for a little boy due in October. Thank you. You're doing a great job.
"Thanks for the 100 subs" now she has 264k..woah
Thanks for the video🌸💕

Old man beginning crochet-er here...Thank you for providing this excellent video. I've watched it a number of times and it has really helped me!
Yes! I love it when men crochet. Kudos to you, sir.
@@creative2716 How kind of you! I have all the squares done and am now joining them together. It has been a joy thanks to you!
Thank you ❤
The fact that I'm doing anything for that sunflower crochet bag is 👌😵
I'm starting to learn how to crochet just now and this is my fist project, a table cloth full of granny squares. my first attempt was an epic fail, as I tried to read it in different recipes sites, but then I've decided to try again with this video and I'm so proud to say I could actually do it. it does not look as perfect as hers, but I am really happy I made it. Also, English is not my first language, so being able to learn the terms for all of it in English made me feel accomplished. thank you so much for your video, it's a great job.
I saved this video a few years ago and always come back to it whenever I am doing a sunburst project because it's an easy to follow tutorial.
I used this pattern to make sunflower potholders for my niece as a housewarming present. Brown for the first 2 rows, gold, and then green for the outer square part. They came out lively.
Green is good for the outside too. They're not really thick enough to actually use for potholders. Do you double it with something in between?
thank you for the amazing tutorial!! i have a little experience with crocheting (started 8 months ago) and this was such a clear tutorial that i think someone with no experience would be able to follow along too:) I want to make a whole blanket with this design now...
I made a blanket using this square for my daughter. It came out so beautiful! She loved it. Thanks so much for sharing your talent with us.
I wish I found this turorial sooner! It's clear, precise and quick. No fluffing around just straight to it. Thank You
I know this video is like 4 years old but I just recently found it and it has to be one of my very favorite things to crochet, I really like the way it turns out and it looks good with so many color combinations, easy to make, thanks to this video and best of all IT HAS PUFF STITCHES!!!! Which I now know I love! Thanks for the video!!!!!
So I watched this tutorial today and guess what 😭😭😭 I finally made the perfect square all thanks to you girl.
LOVE A YOUNG CROCHETTER"best therapy ever🌉"happy quarantine to everyone!!
You did an amazing job on this video ! The " unknown " stitch are just Incompleted double crochet stitches . When you apply it to the pattern you just would say crochet 4 together . Love your videos , they are very easy to follow
I learned so many stitched from this video alone! This is the clearest tutorial I've seen on the Starburst granny square and I've learned so quickly how to make them because of it.
Thanks so much Daisy, it is lovely granny square and your explanation is very good. I start to crochet also many years ago and I think is beautiful and relaxing. Now days almost all my gifts are making by myself in crochet. I would like that girls and young people spend more time knitting o crocheting making this kind of things that spend so many time in from of Ipops, TV, etc. ...

I’ve been wanting to try a granny square blanket,u make it simple! Ty
You are a great teacher. You make it very easy to understand. I’m an experienced crocheter who came across this video because the colors caught my eye. I will be watching more of your videos.
Hey everyone! So I often get lots of comments about how to make this square bigger, but I've also gotten comments from people saying that they were able to make it bigger. If you have attempted to make this square larger and have succeeded please comment here on how you were able to do it so that we can all share some ideas and help each other out :)
please tell me how to expand it, can I expand it with the old method of granny square? or continuing your method for the white yarn.. I wanna make it big cause my yarn is thin..
I just recently made a video about how to make the Starburst Granny Square larger :) Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/-tMsjtDAou8/видео.html
thank you sooo much!!!
You can just use the basic granny square method, without any problems :)
Really?? Won't it get smaller??

you are a good teacher i must say.i just follow your instructions & i made this with the first attempt.
Hey you look so young! I suppose you are. Some (ugly) people tell me that I began to like crocheting because I am getting older! I pay no attention to them :) I love crocheting. Your tutorials are so simple and easy to understand. Thank you!!!!!
+Lisa Donis never listen to the haters, I learned to knit when I was 4 and crochet when I was 10.
Just do what you love to do, and don't let them get to you ❤
This is my favorite granny square i make it all the time, thank you for the great tutorial 🙏
Great tutorial, very clear and and so easy to understand 👍 I've been wanting to make these for so long, love your colors. I can't wait to get started ☺️
