The story of this song is that it was written for a friend of the singer Myles Kennedy who sold him his first guitar when he started and was a very good friend for a long time until he died from cancer. This song is dedicated to him. You should see them performing this son in Wembley live. There, Myles explains the story and the performance is amazing, a lot of emotion put into it.

Agreed, if you check thei first record, one day remains, Windup was still pushing for them to sound like Creed, as half their songs kinda did on the first release. Blackbird is the first record where they were really Alter bridge really showing the difference from their creed days. I love Creed, have their records, but AB is on a differentel level.

Definitely in the realm of the few songs that can make me cry. It makes me think of a few people I have lost in my life while also just being a very awesome song in general from the drums to the dueling guitar solos that shred your soul.

He also played the first of the two solos that you heard. I know music is subjective and everyone takes different things from songs and music they hear, but for me, this is one of the most beautiful and stunning tributes for any human being that I have heard in my 43 years of life on this planet. The lyrics are well written, they're obviously dripping with meaning and earnest love and respect for his friend, and the musicianship is absolutely off the charts. Even if this genre isn't your cup of tea, I don't think anyone with a soul can listen to this and not feel some level of appreciation and respect for at least some aspect of the song. I'm a pretty tough cookie emotionally, but this song makes me well up with tears every time I hear it and I'm not distracted by something that prevents me from really listening to it. This is raw love, adoration, respect, and loss all rolled into one piece of art and it's just fucking beautiful. Someone said that we all die twice - once when our body passes and again when nobody speaks of us again. This song pretty much guarantees that his friend will live on in the second sense for as long as the meaning of this song is talked about. I'm not sure Myles could have done anything better to honor the memory of his friend.

I have seen Alter Bridge live probably closing in on roughly a dozen times now and am yet to be anything but blown away. Myles & Mark are by far one of the greatest hard rock duos in music history. If you are looking for live versions to review "Words Darker Than Their Wings" at the Royal Albert is a MUST. Otherwise you definitely have check out songs like Wayward One, Calm the Fire, Cry of Achilles or Watch Over You acoustically for Billboard.

Choosing between Alter Bridge and Tool is hard for me. Both are on another level. Basically just comes down to whatever I feel like listening to at the time haha. Their discographies are soooo complete
If you ever get around to it, check out a band called "Ra" (as in the Egyptian sun god) and their song "Do You Call My Name" (they have plenty of other amzing songs, but its accepted that's there most popular) They weren't ever super big because they basically got screwed over by the record label, but they have been making great albums since there inception. Great musicians, and great singer. Its honstly sad that they never became super popular.

Myles Kennedy is probably the best singer/songwriter in music. Period. Please do yourselves a favor and check out these two songs, "Cry of Achillies" and "Watch Over You" (live at Billboard). 2nd one is so freaking beautiful. Welcome to the most underrated band in the music industry!
Tom Grove not true. Myles actually had most of Watch Over You written before they decided to use it. Their A&R guy at that time (they were on Universal for the Blackbird album) wanted a song like that from them to complete the album. Myles has it mostly written, I think from pre-Alter Bridge days, but it needed a bridge section. Mark had one that fit. They talk about it in a video that’s here on RUclips about the making of the album.

i loved this song since it was released, but the true meaning came to me once my grandmother passed after a long fight against cancer, she practically raised me, so after she passed away this song has been my life and soul.
The lead singer is Myles Kennedy. He has a four octave vocal range, and is one of the if not the most gifted artists alive today, and he is also a hell of a talented guitarist. Even Slash said that he learned a fair bit from Myles. (see his solo project, Mayfield Four, and Slash ft. Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators) The lead guitarist is Mark Tremonti. Absolute beast of a guitarist. Definitely one of the best out there. And he can sing really well too! He has a solo project called Tremonti. You guys have stumbled upon a gold mine with Alter Bridge! Hope there are more reactions to their material!

Thankyou for reacting to my favourite band. To me Myles is one of THE great rock vocalists of all time right up their with Chris Cornell, Jeff Buckley, Eddie Vedder. Although Mark Tremonti is the guitar legend, Myles guitar style just speaks to me, it has so much emotion and subtlety, kind of like a blues player.
Myles Kennedy(Lead singer) is a phenomenal singer, as well as guitarist Mark Tremonti(Back up Vocals and guitarist shredding solos), are the perfect duo...Mark has his own band called Tremonti, which is AMAZING!
Tremonti is the king of performing a solo that fits the song beautifully but can still be powerful in it's own right. You could literally react to any AB song and I'd tune in to watch it. "Metalingus" was pretty much their first major hit and you'd probably recognize the song. Keep AB coming!!
Myles Kennedy wrote this song about a friend of his that passed away due to addiction. Probably one of my favorite songs of theirs is the title track of their one day remains album, it’s a go to song when I’m having a difficult time with my mental health. Interesting facts about alter bridge; the members of alter bridge are composed of the other three members played for creed. Mark Tremonti is originally from Detroit and lived near a bridge call the alter bridge hence the band name. He also just did an album singing Frank Sinatra covers with Sumatra’s band to raise awareness for down syndrome he also has four or five solo albums that are fucking awesome! Myles Kennedy has a four octave voice and one reason why he has such amazing breath control is because he played trumpet until he discovered guitar at 14. Also alter bridge is NOTHING like five kyles punching drywall or avenged sevenfold and they are NOT butt rock I don’t even know what that is. They are just straight hard rock.

I have seen Alter Bridge live probably closing in on roughly a dozen times now and am yet to be anything but blown away. Myles & Mark are by far one of the greatest hard rock duos in music history.
If you are looking for live versions to review "Words Darker Than Their Wings" at the Royal Albert is a MUST.
Otherwise you definitely have check out songs like Wayward One, Calm the Fire, Cry of Achilles or Watch Over You acoustically for Billboard.

If you ever get around to it, check out a band called "Ra" (as in the Egyptian sun god) and their song "Do You Call My Name" (they have plenty of other amzing songs, but its accepted that's there most popular)
They weren't ever super big because they basically got screwed over by the record label, but they have been making great albums since there inception. Great musicians, and great singer. Its honstly sad that they never became super popular.

Myles Kennedy is probably the best singer/songwriter in music. Period. Please do yourselves a favor and check out these two songs, "Cry of Achillies" and "Watch Over You" (live at Billboard). 2nd one is so freaking beautiful. Welcome to the most underrated band in the music industry!

Tom Grove not true. Myles actually had most of Watch Over You written before they decided to use it. Their A&R guy at that time (they were on Universal for the Blackbird album) wanted a song like that from them to complete the album. Myles has it mostly written, I think from pre-Alter Bridge days, but it needed a bridge section. Mark had one that fit.
They talk about it in a video that’s here on RUclips about the making of the album.

The lead singer is Myles Kennedy. He has a four octave vocal range, and is one of the if not the most gifted artists alive today, and he is also a hell of a talented guitarist. Even Slash said that he learned a fair bit from Myles. (see his solo project, Mayfield Four, and Slash ft. Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators)
The lead guitarist is Mark Tremonti. Absolute beast of a guitarist. Definitely one of the best out there. And he can sing really well too! He has a solo project called Tremonti.

Thankyou for reacting to my favourite band. To me Myles is one of THE great rock vocalists of all time right up their with Chris Cornell, Jeff Buckley, Eddie Vedder. Although Mark Tremonti is the guitar legend, Myles guitar style just speaks to me, it has so much emotion and subtlety, kind of like a blues player.
Myles Kennedy(Lead singer) is a phenomenal singer, as well as guitarist Mark Tremonti(Back up Vocals and guitarist shredding solos), are the perfect duo...Mark has his own band called Tremonti, which is AMAZING!
I recommend 'In Loving Memory', 'Metalingus', 'Open Your Eyes', 'Shed My Skin', 'Down To My Last', and 'Before Tomorrow Comes'

The band is named after a real bridge in Detroit that lead guitarist Mark Tremonti grew up near.
Tremonti is the king of performing a solo that fits the song beautifully but can still be powerful in it's own right. You could literally react to any AB song and I'd tune in to watch it. "Metalingus" was pretty much their first major hit and you'd probably recognize the song. Keep AB coming!!
Myles Kennedy wrote this song about a friend of his that passed away due to addiction. Probably one of my favorite songs of theirs is the title track of their one day remains album, it’s a go to song when I’m having a difficult time with my mental health. Interesting facts about alter bridge; the members of alter bridge are composed of the other three members played for creed. Mark Tremonti is originally from Detroit and lived near a bridge call the alter bridge hence the band name. He also just did an album singing Frank Sinatra covers with Sumatra’s band to raise awareness for down syndrome he also has four or five solo albums that are fucking awesome! Myles Kennedy has a four octave voice and one reason why he has such amazing breath control is because he played trumpet until he discovered guitar at 14. Also alter bridge is NOTHING like five kyles punching drywall or avenged sevenfold and they are NOT butt rock I don’t even know what that is. They are just straight hard rock.
