Fun Fact: "Poison" was a huge comeback song for Cooper, who released five Platinum albums from 1970-1975 but fell out of favor over the next 12 years and battled a debilitating drug and alcohol addiction that nearly killed him (he got sober for good in 1983). The song vaulted him back to the charts and into the public eye, earning him a whole new generation of fans. Cooper-loving parents were thrilled to see their kids discover him, and entire families started showing up at his concerts.

Alice Cooper lived next door to Groucho Marx and they were such good friends that when Groucho had one of his bouts of insomnia he'd phone Alice and they'd sit watching old movies all night
If you remember the great movie star Cary Grant there's this fabulous story of his attending an Alice Cooper concert (NB content warning for drug use and defecation - yes, really). Cary would have been in his sixties at this point "MAUREEN DONALDSON: There was a concert scheduled for San Diego. Cary insisted he go incognito, so I disguised him as best I could in the "style" of a more than slightly seedy agent. I wrapped sunglasses around Cary's eyes, a gold chain around his neck and a checkered jacket around his shoulders, sharkskin pants. I will say that Cary did his best. He wore earplugs and sat through the entire show without one word of complaint. He sat through the "beheading" and the contortions with the snake and the rest. Driving back to Los Angeles, I congratulated Cary for being such a good sport. He'd made an extraordinary effort to please me. "You really hated it, didn't you?" "It's..." he said, struggling for words, "You know what it's like? Remember I told you about the time I took LSD in my doctor's office and shat all over his rug and floor?" "Yes," I said. "Well now I know how that poor doctor felt.""
Guy is such a unique personality. Crazy on-stage, a showman who mixed his music up & had an 80s resurgence with this one. Really intelligent, philanthropist & heckuva golf player. Alice played in our town in 2024 with Rob Zombie. While he was in town, he visited local restaurants, and attended a local church service with his lovely wife. He really is two completely different people. His personality is very different from his persona. ✌🏼😎🇺🇸
I've seen him live twice. The first time was just seeing him & he definitely loves his theatrics. Halfway through the set, an old guillotine is bought onto stage, with Cooper still singing & halfway through a song. He beheads himself, a woman picks the head up & his "body" gets up walks around until reunited with his head! He's crazy as hell but in such an amazing way. Alice Cooper is actually a cool person, IRL. He's very much the artist, not the art in his day to day life. He just decided on that in a world full of Peter Pan's on stage, he was going to be Captain Hook.
Alice Cooper is great.. lots of ups and downs in life... But the struggle never got the better of him, I think Alice is more Theatre than pure rock and roll, his stage shows are like going to a pantomime show.
Look for a 70's live performance of Alice Cooper. He would have an electric chair and a guillotine on stage. His band / music was horror meets vaudeville meets rock.
A lot of people think this is Cooper’s offering for the 80s stadium rock music that was so prevalent at the time but I think it’s actually stood the test of time. It’s a banger!

He's interesting. First as a trendsetter. It's easy to look at it now and see him in a genre but he was one who was defining this path along with KISS known then I think as "shock rock" which was treating rock and roll as more of a performative art. In that the other thing I think is interesting and via your questions about him is he has always went out of his way to make it public that this a performance and under that makeup is a real person with every day mediocre interests. He is particularly interested in golfing and charity work and personally serves at soup kitchens during the holidays. Much of the "dark" stuff at the time was more the subject of sensualist media and performers like him where more trying to illustrate systematic issues typically church and state as well down to war. Then contrast by what freedom was supposed to look like which is to be free and enjoy yourself. His added horror inspiration and he became a tv horror icon as a result. But the humility always remained with him and he would often debunk any notion that he was some sort of supernatural figure who was versed in the dark arts and wanted people to remember this is all just for fun and play. Especially then so kids would not get the wrong kind of inspiration. Like Ozzy he of course also did a lot to try and raise the public consciousness in regards to mental illness and the struggle of it. Though in his case he has also always been opposed to drinking and drug use or promoting such things. Likewise debunking any attachment to his own image as was very typical for rockers in his time. Anyway interest artist here. Part of someone I had to study as a child as well my mother was a huge fan and all his records and interviews where in my home to pick apart. But Alice Cooper is a character and stage act, make no mistake and Vincent Furnier the artist that created him.
Check out newer performances with Orianthi who was the guitarist for Alice Cooper for a while and was the last guitarist for Michael Jackson, and Nita Strauss who is one of the best guitarists alive today and was with Alice Cooper for years and she worked with Demi Lovato on her rock album
A man so evil he was on the Muppet Show

This is my favourite Alice Cooper song
Alice Cooper is a very outspoken Christian these days.

Check out newer performances with Orianthi who was the guitarist for Alice Cooper for a while and was the last guitarist for Michael Jackson, and Nita Strauss who is one of the best guitarists alive today and was with Alice Cooper for years and she worked with Demi Lovato on her rock album
