He does this song at his concerts and has some veterans come on stage with him when he sings it - he is extremely supportive of our veterans

@@DANDELILAFUN i was at his Party Gras show on July 13th and he had about 30 veterans come up on stage with him while he played this. Ironically, this was just outside of Pittsburgh (about 25 miles from Butler, PA). Bret is from Butler and while we were there Trump was shot in Butler. Trump went to the same hospital Bret was born in.

The best friend that Brett mentions in the song was the band's security guard. He passed away 6 months before the album was released. The video director was putting the images to Brett and he didn't know he would have his friend. Notice that when he looks at his friend, he cries and can't sing. Also shared in the song are Michaels' thoughts about his cousin Bob Huslinger, a marine veteran who served in Vietnam and received 2 purple hearts.

First off, Thank you for your service...Few years ago, I saw Brett Michaels, he came to our small community fair and played, was awesome had a blast, he told us that night he would be back the next year...Sure enough, he came back, this time I got about 20 feet from stage, he brought out our hometown veterans on stage with him...He does so much for the Veterans, very patriotic man. got some good videos too.

I can attest to the AC dog house. Back in the 80s I was working in the mortgage industry in Charlotte, NC when Jim was arrested. Later the house burned down and someone else bought it and came to me to do a loan on the property, I went out to visit the property to do an assessment and saw the ac dog house. For sure it was there!

Being a Canadian I was never drafted or joined the military. Got behind the wheel of a big truck I 1976 at 18 yrs. Started running across the USA in 1978mat 20 yrs old. Met and became friends with a lot of guys that served in Vietnam. To this day if I think of some of the stories I was told. I swear to God that they still make my toe nails curl up.

I appreciate you noticing the lyrics. I think a lot of ppl and reactors miss that. Vietnam is a dark patch on America and Americans. They was a lot college kids back then treated the Soldiers coming home and how our Government treated them is a disgrace. One ones who made it back never came back completely.

I liked grunge, but…. grunge cut short the best era of music, like Poison. I wish grunge would’ve come 10-20 years later so we could’ve continued the best era in music a while longer.

The man who was his best friend and died in the hotel room was a very close friend of his. His name was Kemo. He is in the video. He is the guy with the bandana around his neck, white t shirt. Brett didn’t know he was in the video he was watching. When Brett sees him he is ready to cry. You can see that reaction on his face. It breaks my heart every time I watch this.

When I got in the Vietnam vets were just fading away, not treated well by the Marine corps at all. Seems like they just wanted to get them all out and forget about them. And that's what they did. Semper Fi, 84 to 96.

When you're asking ppl for money to have God save your soul.. you're a crook.. I don't even have to go to church every Sunday to know that God is in my life and heart.. I don't understand why some ppl think if they send money to someone they will get to Heaven faster or something.. I just don't get it.. I was born and raised in the Catholic church.. I haven't been a practicing Catholic in decades.. but I do Believe and I'm not paying anyone for my belief. Truly mind boggling to me that these charlatans had so many ppl sending them money.

From a realistic standpoint, you are right that when Bret Michaels wrote that song back in 1990.....you can take this song and it applies one way or another in every year after this was written. And everything he talks about still happens all across our nation in 2024. I've interpreted the song as even though Bret lost his best friend and was dealing with the sadness and emotional pain of it, it makes you think there are other tragedies going on that it deflects that his lost was the only tragedy.
Kind of....yes my best friend just passed on suddenly and out of the blue.....but I wonder is this loss all I'm going to feel. There are people/person that steal money from others duping them to give as much as they can and not knowing they are being lied to and being hooked/lined/and sinkered (see Bernie Madoff and all the lives he ruined). There are still soldiers that have come back from Iraq/Afghanistan a way different person (that's even if they were lucky enough to make it back alive). The "war after the war" for them is devastating and lasts for years to some physically and mentally.
And there are other situations Bret mentions in the song. To me, it helps "soften" the blow to the guy of losing a best friend so tragically.
By far my favorite song from them, the hair metal bands, and still one of my favorite songs of all time.

Uh FYI they didn’t come to an end at alll. They didn’t get play time but all of these bands have toured in arenas and stadiums still to this day. Poison took time to reconfigure after CC Deville was gone. They brought in other guitarists and still toured but then the new guitarist cheated with the girlfriend of the drummer Rikki Rockett…by 2000 they were back to the original member and touring like crazy. They haven’t toured in two years now but they can still sell more tickets than most bands of today.
