- When the Scion brand debuted as a 2004 model year, the goal was to target a younger car buying crowd with affordable and stylish vehicles. Fast forward almost a decade and Scion is still at the forefront with vehicles like the FR-S and the tC. This 2014 Scion tC is in its 2nd generation and has undergone a handful of changes most notably on the exterior. The base model Scion tC with manual transmission starts at $19,200 and the top of the line Anniversary Edition is $22,440.

If you are looking for a cool new car that is styled like a sport car then look no further than the 2014 Scion tC. Scion updated and restyled the tC with a whole new front end consisting of: new hood, new lights, LED's, new front fascia all in an effort to resemble the FR-S. The wheels are standard 18-inch machine-finished alloys. Out back the rear tail lights are LED and the rear bumper is designed to also look like the FR-S.
The 2014 Scion tC is loaded and for only $20k you get a ton of great features. First of all you get A/C, cruise control, power everything, and a full panoramic sunroof. Now many cars may offer these items but where the tC really jumps ahead is the inpressive 6.1-inch Pioneer audio system featuring Bluetooth.
Under the hood lives a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 179 horsepower and 172 lb-ft. of torque. The transmission options are a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic and fuel economy is 23 MPG in the City and 31 MPG on the highway for both transmissions. The automatic has a system called Dynamic Rev Management which makes the car a little more entertaining to drive. To make the car even more fun, Scion has retuned the electric steering and the suspension.
The 2014 Scion tC is the perfect first car for the teenager or college student for a couple of reasons.
1) The Scion tC starts at under $20k
2) The Scion tC is better equipped than the competition
3) The Scion tC retains its value exceptionally well
4) The Scion tC gets 31 MPG on the highway
5) The Scion tC is very reliable since its built with Toyota parts
6) The Scion tC gets a 5-start crash rating and top safety pick

I used to own this. I sold it when I moved overseas. Was really difficult to do I absolutely loved this vehicle.
I really like this car. Perfect for someone like me just starting out. Someone with not a whole lot of money but still wants some kinda cool, well equipped, safe and affordable.
I think this is the most positive review I've ever seen for this car.
I like how you pointed out that we all want the FR-S lol
This is also faster than the previous FRS. way more torque.
I'm 30 and I would LOVE this vehicle 😁
Carlos Clayton I'm 33 and just bought a 2016 last week. My last car was a 2007 MazdaSpeed 6. The turbo and awd was fun, but all the new features (keyless entry and start, the radio, etc) and Toyotas reliability made this a huge upgrade for me IMO. Seats are super comfortable, I love the feel of the steering wheel, the back seats even recline! Plus I just helped my friend move and this thing has cargo space for days!
this guys creepy
I own an FR-S, and I like the concept of the TC. If I was headed to school and din't have my FR-S, I think it's fantastic. I just need to drive one... this and the Corolla and Juke Nismo
I am 14 years old and I want this car when I am 16 or 17 I find the styling very attractive
Why do you guys think the TC is made for high school or college age drivers? Stats show that scion owners are between 30 to 60 years old! I have NEVER seen a scion being driven by a driver under the age of 30 here in Chicago.
This is a really good car.
Its a 3-door Camry hatchback
3 door?
Thank you Captain Obvious
In california, at my high school before i graduated there was about 10 Scion TCs at my college campus parking lot theres so many TC's its crazy. I have yet to see an person 30-60 years old drive a TC.
Take a look at the Fiesta ST.
4doors
Turbo
197hp
Recaro Seats
6 Speed Manual...
why doesn't he review all the time?? awesome love this guy !
Under 20 Grand, you get AC I have to buy this car
i survived a crash into a tree at 65 miles an hour into my 06 tc. miss it a lot.
Awesome review, great job!
Great review Chris I have shopped around SeverAL dealers none are seeking this car for under $20k the Manuel starts at 20 auto is 21. I'm sure since this is a press car by scion prices are different .
Lol. I'm looking up reviews for my car. I bought mine brand spanking new and as of today I have less than 85k miles on it.
Nice Review. You look good with the blazer on.
Will get this for my high school graduation gift ;)
bought mines already magnetic grey amazing car
Every review on youtube just show's off the bullshit in the car. Wish there were more on reliability and performance..
Me and my dad test drove the scion and it went to 90mph in no time
Plus the Fiesta is teeny tiny inside...my neighbor has one..the tC has a lot of room for Mt bike or 4 grown adults in comfort...
my mom said yess!!!!! Whoa tc here I come :)
I want this car so bad.
As do I! Its definitely an underrated car. No other car at 20k comes even close to looking like a sports car, but the tC is sexy and also has plenty of bells and whistles. Hope I get one soon :)
6 years later. Did you get one? How'd it go?
Before you consider the 2014 Corolla, consider the new Mazda 3. But the 2014 Corolla is a good choice because they updated so many things and now give you leather seats and navigation!
I have this car same year & color and I love it 😍
I'm a student and I'm looking to choose this as my first car.
Thanks for such honest review
I got a 2014 with 21k miles on it
I think this guy is alright. I didn't find him boring.
I enjoyed the video and have also purchased one just like it. Nice review!
I like the car but not the guys lame comments, just tell me about the car! I dont need the rest.
It looks bad ass yea its good choice. I myself have the frs and i wish i have this too as a cruiser especially that flat head top moonroof cant go wrong with it
Its a good car ive driven it and its fun too.
Don't want to blow your bubble but ... I'm middle age and my tc is nothing else than a practical 3 doors Camry .
oi32df I don't mean to bust your bubble, the side impact from IIHS is slightly better in measurements in the TC. Also this looks sporty, with out being a crazy fast car for new drivers. I like the fact it has the same Camry drivetrain. Safe, cheap, sporty, roomy, reliable, good mpg, both types transmission available, sounds great to me.
Not to burst your bubble but
I'd say its more of a new generation celica
Not to burst your bubble but
@Alan Smithee Wrong, but is the funniest word in the world
i would get the car but 19k is still pretty expensive. i know that there are cars that r a bit more expensive that are from the same year but 19k is pretty fcking expensive for me. i think ill just wait until i graduate college in 2019!!!
I have the 2013 tC these are great cars! NOT JUST FOR KIDS! Just because i'm old don't mean I have to drive Grandpa's Car!
You over estimated the weight of the tC by 100 lbs, mine is about 3062, torque is available low rpms unlike the turbo, also the fords depreciate fast and they sit high and are tippy...not a bad car but I love my tC more....also Car and Driver tested tC 0-60 is 6.9 seconds not like that will matter much anyways day to day....The Fiesta is based on an econobox too...
You say you have plenty of leg room in the back seat but your knees are touching the back to the front seat. WTF? Toyota must have paid you guys to do this video.
I Think this car is a really nice car and I think I will be buying awesome video.
I got a 2015 scion tc auto for $19,857.00 out the door brand new with 8 miles on it ""sweet"
rob San Did you just say an automatic then say "sweet'? No not sweet. Manual or bust
+rob San where did you get one with tax and tags for that low. i am looking at getting one tomorrow but it's 19,303 (auto) or 18,303 (manual) before tax and tags.
can i get much lower then this, it was msrp at about 2100 and 22000
+Alex Baker you know some people don't have the time to learn manual or live in California where there's always traffic in La.
I miss Roman.. he actually is honest.
I just want the 2014 corolla, thinkin bout trading my 2013
Where do you get your info from..??
The FR-S is cheaper to insure vs the tC and it's a choice which car fits your needs best.
I've had both cars so if you want a car to take your friends a long with you buy the tC.
I want it to thank you for such a great review, base on this I got mine 2014 10 series I had the trd springs the trd sway bar the trd exaust and the scion graphic, I saw some other reviews, and people always trash this cars for some reason, to me is the best car I ever own, thanks again for
Hey, Ive owned 3 F-150's, 2 escorts. 2 focus's....all great cars....but I admit Ford's don't excite me as much as some of the foreign makes....Id pick Ford over GM anyday. Fords are quality but I buy and trade cars so much I wanted to try the Scions.
Probably the best car reviewer on the Imterwebz. Thanks to him i want to unport this tC to Europe.... But i dont have any money :/
I had one a few years in beautiful blue 2015.... Not digging this review as the guy is trying to be cool and yet writing the car off as a teenager car when it actuality it is a great fun sports coupe for all ages not just boys.
Scion should at least modify the Camry engine in this new tC and redo the out dated interior and instrument to make this more desirable. Right now it is like a new shell on a old tC.
It looks good..but I want my celiac GT-S back. tC is a joke.
Ford St costs much more than $19,100, depreciates much faster, and has a tiny 1.6....I prefer a larger engine no spooling up the turbo, no turbo lag, Camry reliability, nd awesome resale value...plus ford my touch sux, every reviewer says so.
Top Safety Pick yes, but it only got an Acceptable (yellow) in the overlap crash test. Whereas the Civic got a Good (green in all 5). I'm more interested in the Si for same mpg and stronger engine and tech.
not stronger engine bro, beside do not forget that this is toyota and your is civic, civic suck right of the back
Doesn't look like he had a blast ...
It's actually a 2-door Camry.
I can't watch this guy, where is Ron?
don't be dumb , just buy a used frs for the same price lol...
so this guy is the same guy from CNET?
This has got to be one of the worst sales pitches ever. It's a nice car but where is the review?
I'd rather have the new 6-speed auto, heard it's incredibly smooth!
Take this off and have Ron redo it!
For what you get sunroof pioneer 8 speaker sound system I want 1! :)
Have you seen the small overlap crash test for all toyotas, Lexus's, and scion??? You should go check it out, Toyota is a total RIP OFF
i'm torn between this or the mazda 3
mazda 3. Thank me later.
viper2788 care to elaborate?
viper2788
this looks way better than any mazda
dj may i agree, but i'm not making the decision purely based on looks.
The mazda has better suspension, better handling and overall better quality inside and out. Also, im not sure how old you are, but you'll most likely quickly grow out of a scion tc. Too many drivers rice it out, and to me, the name scion just screams immaturity. Neither car is a sports car, and it seems the tc keeps trying to be something its not. I think you'll be satisfied with the mazda and what it has to offer. I can make other suggestions depending on what youre looking for, but between the two you mentioned, I highly suggest going with the mazda 3.
This guy reminds me of the creepy dad who makes off color comments to his kids friends.
if you get one of these get the manual don't get the auto
+Nathan McCallister I agree, and just bought my 2nd Manual TC. The new 6 speed manuals in these things are so easy breezy that its a shame that so many autos are purchased! So many owners are missing out!
This car or an Infiniti g35??
i ended up getting a nissan altima 2013 coupe, I'm happy with it, thanks for the comment tho
Thanks man, dark grey. And nah man I didn't want a spoiler
Yeah dude I think most cars look better without the spoiler, Scion tC looks good without them
What color is yours? I plasti dipped my rims black the first day I got my car haha
dude just yesterday i plasti dipped my rims and grill and all the emblems haha did you paint them or plastic dipped
How much is the tc monthly payments for lease to buy?
I have a 2014. I pay $452 a month.
I have a 2014 tc, it's expensive to insure
Peter Tran How much?
Lucky dragon I pay $70 lol
Not as much as my Frs
This is the new Toyota Celica
more like a Scion tC sales commercial
id prefer to have the tc to the frs because the tc is a better overall car that is practical and more efficient. the frs is a better performance car for sure though and has its purpose but its purpose is not in my driveway
Actually, the FRS is more fuel efficient. It's not much of a performer, but it is funner to drive than the Tc.
+Brad J Stewart I agree completely & this is exactly why I just purchased my 2nd TC for similar reasons and I can confidently say that I feel that I made the right decision. ;)
How's the tC on gas
Brandon Adams my 2015 manual can average 26 city or 18 city. it all depends on how u drive. lets just say driving 18 is way more fun
I get 8.2 L per 100 km eh!
also dont be fooled by the old guy , the TC is not fast !!!
scion tc has better looks and it is a lot more spacious i have been in one before
20000 dollars you got ac? are u kidding me? same price u can have a new vw passat with leather seat. or 1 year old fussion.
but its a toyota, that shit will last you 2 lifetimes
No thanks I will keep my mustang gt
Its under 20 grand until you add an auto transmission and navi
what is the name of the scion color of this TC he is reviewing?
Cement grey
Why would you ever buy a new car for your son or daughter? LOL
Obviously.....lol
The turbo 2.0L or the 3.8 L V6 would clearly destroy it in a race......
Insurance on the TC isn't that cheap. Nearly the same as a GTI. Golf base model is comparable, nicer inside and out, more practical, and a couple hundred less per year for insurance.
+TheSuburban15 I just purchased a 2016 TC & previously owned a 1st gen 2007 TC & my insurance for 6 months with Progressive here in Phoenix is about $1100/year or $550 every 6 months. Full Coverage including all of the bells & whistles & 100k comp & collision, etc. Not bad! You tell me, lol
RoTimi A. I bought a Gen2 tC in July. I'm paying a little more than you, a little more than $1200/year with $250Comp and $500Collision, IIRC. My Subaru was only a little more than $800/year though, so it hurts a little more when the bill comes in.
TheSuburban15 oic, age & driving history also influences insurance cost big time. In addition, I'm starting to be convinced that the newer one goes, the cheaper it may get (all things being equal). I traded in a 1st gen TC for the 2016 & my coverage was significantly higher on the 2007, less coverage, & higher cost! But either of our rates aren't that bad either way. Also, I only have this car & could only imagine what you feel like with 2 separate vehicle policies.
Lol not "quite as much fun" as the FR-S... FWD tC vs. RWD FR-S have no comparison in the fun to drive category. Different cars each with a different purpose
This 2014 TC, a 2012 Civic SI, or a 2012 GTI?
Tc
Hes trying so hard to act like a teenager lmao
he is actually right about certain stuff.. lol
i thing he's ok too, im not seeing why the tweens are so butthurt
Scion TC
>$19,965 BASE MSRP
>179 HP @ 6,000 RPM / 179 torks @4100 RPM
>Curb Weight 3124lbs (Heavy as fuck)
>0-60 7.3 sec (Slow as balls)
>31MPG
Ford Fiesta ST
>$21,400 BASE MSRP
>197 HP (with over boost) @ 6,000 RPM / 202 torks @ 4100 RPM
>Curb weight 2720lbs (And that's with 2 more doors)
>0-60 6.6 sec
>35MPG !!!
Those numbers don't lie, Fiesta ST is a tad more expensive ($1,445 wow nothing) but it's substantially more car then the TC.
Yeah, I test drove this a few days ago, junk. Poor fit and finish inside, cheap plastics, sloppy shifter.
mileage is horrible for the engine it has. V6's these days get better mileage than this
My 16 manual is getting 31mpg mixed driving so far, and I'm not exactly taking it easy. I'll live with that.
eh I'll wait till the wheels fall off my 08
the host is annoying, please get another host.
wish it'd weight less
No kidding.
turning radius to big. mazdas better
I lovevthis guy!!! Lol
car can't accelerate if someone is pushing on the barke pedal... so no heel and toe. pass
simply put... its not a performance car.
ricer, it would get destroyed by the genesis coupe
