- Join Alex L. Dykes as he takes a look at the 2014 Scion tC coupé. This is this discount end of Scion's "two coupé" strategy in the USA. Is it worth the money, and more importantly, which should you buy? The Scion FR-S or the Scion tC?

10 years later and this is still the best Scion TC review by far. Very informative, thank you. :D
I recently seen a white tc on the road!!!!
Same as mine,I chatted with the driver for a minute. He loves his as much as I love my own.A small chat at a stop light.
lol, your grammar is so bad.
Captainmachette1 You need a capital letter there, hypocrite. ;)
Han Solobuger Does your scion tc really have bad build quality like Alex showed? like the door arm rest gap?
Tc family❤
@@Captainmachette1 suck it!!
The Pioneer HD Stereo in this car ROCKS!! Amazing sound quality!!!!!
Also the tC has more torque than the FRS, plus it is 5 grand cheaper!! I love mine!!!! Handling is very good with the 2014 updates to suspension and steering!
You can't compare the two. The Scion may as well be a Corolla. The FRS is a driver's car with 50/50 weight distribution, rear wheel drive, light weight, well tuned, while lacking torque and good tires. But the tC is more like Toyotas have always been boring reliable cars.
@@JuanGarcia-zq5tp it has more torque than the frs it’s not a boring car and a Corolla is usually a 1.8L vs the 2.5 L Tc
Great car! Reliability, economical, roomy, beautiful, fantastic interior layout, and amazing speakers! That is great that Scion went with Pioneer and it should be easy to replace with a modern double din stereo in 2021. :)
Bought one of these brand new in 2014. I miss that car. It was a hoot to throw around the county-graded dirt roads of rural Alabama. Made me feel like a rally driver. I did get that upgraded nav/stereo option, and the wing. I did the TRD exhaust and cold air intake. It would keep up with the civic si of the day
I just bought one used as my first car, I'm gonna rip it down gravel roads in Canada
Used two door honda civic for sale by owner
The Civic Si is the tC's only competitor. Although the Si has 200hp the tC has that 2.5 litre camry motor with 180hp. There's no replacement for displacement. Tc is nose to nose or beats the Si all day long. I've seen it.
I own a 2014 tC and love it I use it as a daily driver and it's good for the city and good for when I want to dust those crapy civics
Its a tc lmao, both tcs and civis are slow just stay in your lane and stop tryna follow the bigboys
@@rickytrevino8281 Love you some BigBoys don't ya...
@@kramnull8962 I am the bigboy
@@rickytrevino8281 Yeah, your roundabout chair gets on 2 wheels alot...
@@kramnull8962 Youll be on 2 wheels once im done with that tight behind
1:09-1:13 $2,965 for the automatic transmission version, shit ill save myself $17,000!
6 speed manual is best way to go.
since driving style matters, this car is pretty fast considering the same people got the same 7.4 second 0-60 in the nismo juke which is turbo with 197hp. the tc got the same number with 179 hp.
I got one recently and I love it so far.
Wow thanks. This was a truly valuable review. I recently had a civics ctv transmission sedan but I have been considering changing over to a Scion TC coupe.
Really great review, I was trying to see if Top Gear covered this car and stumbled on your review. Aside, from the theatrics and entertainment they tend to offer, your review was very informative and seemed comprehensive, keep it up!
The best auto review I've ever watched! Thanks Alex!
Really thorough and honest review. Good job
Thank you for this awesome review. It helps me to have a better understand of this 2014 Scion tC. Good job!
Best review of the new TC I have seen, Thank for doing it!
At 1:10 he said $2,965 for the automatic transmission model instead of $20,965.
Wow. If only it was that cheap.
I've been considering this as my next car, I currently drive a 91 Celica and it still runs fine. Toyota's were made to last. This is basically a modern Celica anyway so it shouldn't be a big transition.
But I'd have to get leather seat covers, that fabric doesn't look good.
easily the best review I have ever seen. Thank you! But i am torn between the 2014 civic and the 2014 tc...
Just bought me one today same color luv it!
This was a very helpful review! Thank you!
Wasn't expecting such a great review. Awesome job.
Great review layout on your videos! Keep it up!
i have a 2014 and i love it! mpg could be a little better but other than that it's great. pretty quick and nimble for being a FWD 4 cylinder. can't forget about the legendary reliability too
Great review and extremely informative, keep it up!
As a matter of fact we will. We will see it in person next Wednesday at a launch event and should have the video live about a week later (assuming that Mazda doesn't make us abide by an NDA for a specific release date).
Would love to play with one of these one day. A secondary weekend car would be nice.
It looks like scion spend more time in the designs from the outside than in the details from the inside
I'm in my 5th year of ownership (manual), love taking it out on twisty roads.
Max oobbxxx Hey man! i love this cars and I’m looking into buying one, Is it reliable? How good has yours been? Thanks haha
I like how he explained everything about the back seat & the entire time I’m thinking “I’m putting the back seats down to make it 2 seater anyway” 😂
Fantastic review. Very knowledgeable.
Got myself an Absolutely Red Monogram Series tC with TRD lowering springs yesterday....love it! Way better than the Veloster Turbo and the Civic Coupe
Loved the video thanks for the detailed info
Love my tC, what more could you want in a car? Reliable Toyota engine, peppy 180hp 2.5l, awesome sound system, great resale value, responsive handling, huge cargo space, the ability to seat 4 adults comfortably, a satisfying exhaust note, and to top it all off - the price. I bought my 2016 with push start/keyless entry 50k miles for $11,700.
I'm coming from a lease on a 2017 cruze hatchback w/ a 1.7l turbo. I have no equity coming out of the lease. Moving to the tC I'm getting a much better car with cheaper payments, all of the same features, more power, and I'll actually have around $9,000 equity when my 36 months are up. A better deal in every regard.
Best review i came across about this car thanks good job
I have a 2012 tC and I love it. the gas MPG is only about 27/28 which isn't too bad. it's got some power for the size of its engine. seats are comfy. trunk is roomy. back seats fold and the back seats also recline backwards a few inches which create more room. Not too fond of the new rims and the new front end of the car.
I was going to say it looks like Santa Cruz Mtn roads until I saw the Pioneer Hotel situated on 84. I commuted 9 to 84 daily in a '91 Suzuki Swift GT, super fun!
I love the scion buying model. Choose manual or auto then dealer install all the options you want. No overpriced bundles, just get the options you're looking for. I wish more brands were sold this way.
I own a 2005 scion tc with 257,000 miles apprx. and let me tell you these cars are tough. The 2014 looks great and its well balanced. Will buy another TC in the near future. Good video.
They stopped making them in 2016.I have a 2014 & I Love Her.
Love this car in cement gray.
I now own a 2014 sti ..I still have my 2008 tc with 253,000 miles with stock clutch that I will replace soon.. other than oil change and rotors n brake pads change at 150k .. these cars are awesome.. nj strong !!! bought it new .. cant complain..
That was Kings Mountain Road near Woodside, CA
I just bought a 2015 model in metallic grey fully loaded with a manual trans. It looks sporty, drives well, gets decent mpg with toyota reliability. How could you go wrong for 20k? The plastic interior also isn't really that bad. It's actually easier to clean.
Very very well made video learned a lot
I just bought the 2014 Tc in blue, it is good on gas, very peppy/good torque in all gears, handles good/sporty unlike fwd car.
Great job, Alex!
lol he said $ 2965 at 1:10 .
Forgot to mention the frs requires premium fuel, great video though! I'm waiting for one more refresh then it shall be perfect!
Braaapson Riding this is under rated comment
10:42 Gay Cruise?
lol... I noticed that too... :)
Never heard of The Village People? or did you think it was straight themed music?
Noticed it to and came to the comments section to see if anybody else did lol
Excellent review!
I like the 3 way separate speaker setup.
I thought it was a very good review. Hope you keep up the good work.
Sure. It's fun, looks decent and is likely to be very reliable.
It depends on your body shape. I use a 6'5 co-worker, jam him in the seat and see how he fits and what he complains about.
Love these cars. Would definately get one if I didn't need a truck
I have the monogram version and everywhere there is cloth padding, it is leather and it has Alot more padding compare to the cloth version
I like the tC, you should also check out the soon-to-be-released Kia Forte Koup. The Civic is less exciting than the tC and the Civic Si is more capable, but the Si is manual transmission only.
Very good review
Great review minus the misconception that the Civic Si can be purchased in an automatic. It is 6 speed manual only and always has been. The 5 speed auto is only for the 140hp regular Civic. I have a 2012 Si and my wife just got this 2014 TC in the same color as the video with automatic. Both are great cars, my Si is no doubt faster with more head room, but the TC looks better with tons of trunk space. The 2 door TC also has just as much rear leg room as my 4 door Si. Can't go wrong either way.
Hi Alex, what is your opinion about the rear visibility in the TC? Does it really have a cheap interior, or is it just simple? Does the horsepower improve substantially with the TRD performance air intake? Did you like the regular manual shifter? Keep up the good work!
Well presented. Nice affordable car now
1st gen will always be the real Tc
any maintance to watch for/? thank you . Main is 5spd. I love it
How is the gas mileage on a 2014 and how does the car/engine hold up? Is it going to be in the shop all the time? It's 2015 but I'm thinking about buying slightly used 2014
One of the best reviewers on RUclips
You're joking. All his reviews, the numbers are off and he just talks to hear his voice. He knows nothing.
PLS make some CORRECTIONS on your Review! Honda Civic Si ONLY COME with Manual Transmission! Honda never Offered the Si with an Automatic transmission and it is also 6 speed manual!
I plan on getting this car also you recommend it for my first car? I'm a fairly new driver.
I plan on buying the tc for my next car. I have an 09 corolla now, but I wanted something faster with a bigger engine. Also with the right mods, you can easily put out over 200hp on the tc. I the only things I don't like about it is the dash. Other than that I love the car.
is the exterior and interior the same as 2015? is 2014 and 2015 the same look wise ?
Is there a way to import one of these to Australia?
I'm thinking of buying one next year just because they have a larger 4 cylinder and they use the reliable Camry engine.
Good video. I did not know all the details of the current TC. I feel for the money and features the Elantra Coupe is better buy if driven as a daily drive and not a track car. The Civic Si is more exciting to drive but I agree I do not like the looks on the outside as much as the TC but the interior of the TC looks cheap.
I have an 09' tC and I love it to death! However, I've been peeping at this tC due to the fact that my neighbor has one in all white and it looks stunning. Been thinking about upgrading to the new model and I just may! Any previous tC owners (05-10 models). Eventually, I will test drive the new model but I want to hear the good and the bad from actual consumers to help me make a good purchase.
Nathan C Clemons Yeah I drove a cement monogram 14 not too long ago, and then I found myself eyeing this beautiful White 14 FR-S. Long story short, after test driving both I am looking into getting the FR-S! Just suits my needs a little more and I really love the styling. Still love the tC though..thanks for the feedback fellow Scion owner :)
Nathan C Clemons You've made a wise decision..chose a car that's sporty, yet it can still haul the family around. I read you loud and clear! White FR-S it is haha
Does that door armrest panel open that wide in both sides? at 7:44
love the blue!
Love this blue
Really good car... Main reason I got it, it's under 20k my insurance is 90$ the gas is amazing I get 26mpg... I would recommend this to college students... I know you want to drive a camaro or evo and get ass ... But just think about about it can I afford it... I really wanted an evo and frs but couldn't afford it with the insurance
Ernie Sanchez i get the same mpg on my 328i
@@RagingBad Oh yea? And Insurance? Reliability?
Rashad, the Stranger yea, for me is cheap, and I maintain my car very well so...
@@RagingBad So...the point is that it's not about you. And let's be real, many more Toyotas out there meaning many more people not maintaining them. Yet we don't hear about those cars having any major issues. Less BMW's on the road yet they're money pits. So...
Rashad, the Stranger I don't give a shit about boring Toyotas, I can afford having a BMW, if it breaks it's covered by warranty, you don't buy BMW's for transportation only, that's what Toyotas are for
Did you ever review the XB? I love my 2015.
16: 20 Could you tell me why a Camry and even a Rav4 ( '13+ ) with exactly the same drivetrain ( exact ratio on each speed & final ) get better fuel economy ? Camry is heavier and the Rav4 beside get bigger frontal area . Mapping of the tranny ???
I have the 09' model, and the only thing I like about the new model is the steering wheel and the headlights..lol. Of course the increased HP on this model. Nice car
My Wife and I are looking a getting a second car. We just bought a ford escape so we really just want a fun little car to drive around the city in. Do you think this would be the better choice over the Civic or Forte. PS is has to be automatic for the wife
those tc's come with door knobs?
good value for a fun car
-> Excellent video! But one question thou...
...where is that twisty road you've driven!? That looks like very fun to drive at, and a perfect case for the tC test you've done!
I love my 2015 scion tc. Fun to ride and 85 % prime up even a BMW driver checking my car out
How is the car stereo? Does it pack a punch?
@@xXBLACKOPS28Xx
With 8 stock speakers sound better then most cars such as a Civics or a WRX even a F-rs and also Brz can't beat it but I added an Amp with 12" sub.
Love my 15 XB manual l.
Unless I mis-heard, you mentioned in your comparison a Honda Si automatic, which doesn't exist. Si is offered only in manual.
wath about sbow and the rear window?
In how much i could find it now in 2020??
And about that road , my TC hatch booth love to bring my marinoni and the marinoni want to ride that road , where is it?
Come to Louisiana and review my 14 Civic Si coupe on Eibach suspension! Haha
Hey Alex is the Scion TC'S radio sirusxm ready? Or would I have to keep my old double din radio and install it to keep my sirusxm subscription?
Eric Lopez The current model is, but I don't know about prior years.
The current would be the 2015 or 14?
Eric Lopez yes
Not quite as wide on the other side, but yes, it was still a problem there as well.
You should show the differences between 2014 Mazda3 and 2014 scion tc
i thought the civic Si only came in 6sp manual. what's he talking about?
I think he meant the reg Civic when he spoke of the automatic transmission, we all know the Si has only manual trans.
For $1200 dollars you can upgrade the stereo to one with touchscren and sattelite navigation and upgrade the speakers(I'm talking about aftermarket parts, of course).
Ik this vid is 7 years old and I doubt I'll get a response, but is there any difference between the 2014 and 2016 modles?
The 2016 has push button start and better stereo but no cd player.
im in love with my GTI mk6 its really really really really fun to drive with well good built quality and very very very good materials.
I hope it is reliable, I almost bought one but i was worried about the long term reliability issues that VW seems to have. CR magazine rates them low.
with how strict laws are getting with driving all the apps and stuff that come with the $1200 option are probably not going to be allowed to use while driving. so if you cant use the apps when moving your basically paying $1200 for a nav system when you could buy a good external one for $300, doesnt seem worth it to me. your thoughts?
As I always tell folks, spend time in the seat before you buy because like seats, people are built differently and what is comfortable for someone can be painful for another.
Acura ILX 2015 or Scion TC 2015?
@MADdaDJ, yes, it is pure Japanese Toyota. The engine is the same as the Camry. Good car. Scion/Toyota are #1 rated by Consumer Reports as far as reliability.
