I purchased this unit a month ago, and have found it work extremely well. I also found that after 500 rounds of .223 brass that my fingers would end up quite sore even to the point of being almost blistered from pushing in. I started wearing a pair of form fitted gloves to save my fingers. Not so necessary for a few pieces of brass here and there, but definitely a hand and finger saver. I loved your review. Was very thorough and showed just how easy it is to use. Thanks from Boise, Idaho.
I too tried various types of thin gloves and finally found a solution for brass trimming that worked quite well for me. I use the Frankford Arsenal Perfect Seat Hand Primer to hold my shells. Using the appropriate shell holder and the small primer insert, it "locks" the brass in (as you can adjust the depth of the primer insert arm) so when you are trimming it doesn't move and it's a quick release when you are done. I want to say I documented it in one of my videos, but can't recall which one at the moment. Glad my review helped.
Trimming before sizing, noticed the spent primes are still in the case? No trimmer system registering on the shoulder is going to give consistent results like that. Need to bump the shoulder back a few thousandths to have consistent shoulder dimensions.
This is why I love the Dillon Rapid Trim. I raise the ram and the die/cutter do the rest. I can trim a 300AAC, 223, 308, 6.5CM, etc in less than 3 seconds. I have the FA case prep and it kept losing the setting as did the HDay and Lyman case trimmer that has the drill attachment. Drove me crazy.
Can you please do a full review of the Frankford Arsenal drill mounted cutting tool that you showed in this video in the blue box? It looks like you're the only person that's even talked about this new product from Frankford Arsenal. I've got to world's finest trimmers, and I'm interested in this new product from Frankford Arsenal just would like a little bit more info on it. Thanks a bunch! Great video on the Lyman Brass Smith.
*THE "BEYOND ME ... 1.53" might be related to INCONSISTENT shoulder height induced by NOT sizing all of the brass to same dimensions 'head to shoulder' ... This is sometimes called 'shoulder bump' or pushing the shoulder back.*
My bench is made by Whalen. Stout and sturdy as heck. All steel, even the peg board. My version has 2 overhead storage cabinets. Massive, locling casters. Picked it up at Costco >10 years ago for $299. Absolutely LOVE it..
I was going to go with the Frankford arensenal platinum case prep and trim center then I came across this. Not sure which is the best option if can only buy 1
Matt Lord - I’m a FA product fan (as you can see from a number of my videos) and I also understand folks have different needs, preferences and budgets, so YMMV. I have more than a few trimming solutions, including FA, and they each have pros and cons. Since I do not have the Platinum Case Prep, I can’t really comment on it from experience. I do like my Lyman though.
Yes...something I discovered (and would apply to the Brass Smith Case Trim Xpress as well) when trimming short 5.7x28 brass...use my Frankford Arsenal hand primer as a means of locking in the brass and saving my fingers. See video of what I mean: ruclips.net/video/7VsnUVQg-rc/видео.html
Re Loader The brass he is trimming from the bag has not been resized yet. If you notice, his first piece of “experimental” brass from the bag still has the spent primer in it. If this trimmer registers the cases off the shoulder, it explains why he is getting approximately a .005 variance in the trim length. Cases should be trimmed AFTER resizing, as this should produce a shoulder bump within less than .001 consistency between cases, resulting in a far more consistent trim length from case to case. Also, another reason to trim only after resizing is because resizing can stretch or lengthen a case as much as .002-.005, depending on using a standard base die or small base die. If you want to use this tool to trim un resized brass with consistent results you need to first measure each case, insert the case and run the cutter up to the case, then adjust the cutter to trim the case down to your desired length, and trim. Doing this to each case is far more time consuming then simply resizing first, then trimming.
That was a great review, much better than the Ultimate Reloader did :-) This video convinced me on this one, the Frankford Arsenal trimmer has you lock and unlock each case and the collect system seems to only have a few collects to cover all the case calibers ! I'm planing on getting the Lyman Case Prep Center and follow up with getting their case trimmer. Thanks for the help. New subscriber :-)) PS: Is there a foot pedal you found works good ?

I'm thinking about one of these except I'm abit ocd about my brass be consistent in length...
I forgot to put the spring in, and its A LOT easier, and you can rotate it too. Try it, and let me know how you liked it.

What’s the name of the rail that you have the tensioners in the back holding the trimmer in place. Thank You in advance.

Is there a tool to hold the brass with while you trim it?

How do you stop adjustment dial from moving whilst trimming
The adjustment dial doesn't "move" (change settings) while trimming. Must be manually adjusted.
I’m thinking a thick rubber band
Try using a rubber band over it and the frame.
Did he resize them before trimming?
Yes, since the brass was deprimed, that meant (for my processes) it was already resized.

Dude lay off the coffee
An interesting review but please keep the camera steadier next time as it was awful to watch this one at times.
I normally have the camera on tripod, but for these close ups, had to take it off. Old hands are not steady hands unfortunately.
It’s a trimmer that indexes on the shoulder I would have loved to see how consistent it is... Measuring case length proves nothing.
It proves that post resizing and trimming the case length is trimmed to what I need it to be.
