Bought a starter motor today die to car not starting and only hearing 1 click. After 2hrs trying to locate and remove it I gave up. I then saw your video and remembered my connection looking like yours so outside I go and jack up the car remove both nuts and spray with WD40 and tighten back up. Car started first turn of the key. Thank you for this video I can now return starter motor and get my £220 back and saved garage fitting fees. Top man

I know the video is 4 years old, but saved me some big money today. Come back parked up next morning it wont start. Sounded exactly how in this video. Before Ive seen the video i went and bought the starter motor spent £150. Gone under car could not see how to replace it. Went on youtube looked for videos and found this one. So got back under used the WD40 PFTE loosen some bolts moved round tighten back up and started like a dream. So took the new part back to shop got me money back and car is works and starts fine. Thank you so much for the video 😊

I’m another one that you’ve saved a load of cash and pain. The car (Mondeo mk5 1.5d) up on axle stands and me checking prices for starter. I must say I was not looking forward to the removal, it’s in a right painful position (designers hate mechanics) anyway tested with multi meter as you showed with similar results. loosened, cleaned, retightened and greased terminal nuts. Starts like a dream.
I was surprised it was this because parked the other night and next morning nothing, just the click, I thought the ring gear had jammed. But no warning at all I found that weird.
    Thanks for this. I’m subscribing.

Service didn't understand the issue and they told me the car's computer shows no problem at all but they changed the clutch sensor just to be safe(!) Now that I'm doing a detailed research about the problem I'm pretty sure it was the same issue that you had in the video. Connection problem, corrosion or something like that in starter motor.

I’ve gone through several starters now. Before we both the mechanic and I saw the oil on gear and believed it was due to this. Now this last time lasted only two weeks. Still make the same sound as previous failures. Like Bendix just spins grinding noise. I myself took it off this time and no oil what a surprise since there’s been oil on previous ones. Very clean. Took it to mechanic he bench tested it looked great he said to put it back on make sure all connections are good tight clean including batttery. Battery only one month old. Still not working just keeps making same spinning grinding winding noise. Soo if bench tested it and came out good it doesn’t mean under flywheel load it’s strong enough to crank flywheel?

Found out the hard way that bench testing a starter isn’t the be all end all. It’s a first step but you can put it on and won’t crank. That’s what happened to me. Anyway my almost brand new starter just two weeks old OEM totally failed. Got a used junkyard one and totally worked. Forgot to put on that top bracket that starter cable clips on to oh well. ..

I'm going to try this on my 2016 ford kuga
As it usually declines to start it takes afew goes and then it goes dead and then it starts so I would definitely think its the same problem ! Well I hope it is
What lubricant did you use or is it ok to use any kind could you recommend some please mate ! Plus do I have to disconnect the battery just incase of a spark , or is it OK to just do it and loosen the nut on the starter
    And carry on
Plus is it just the nut onto the starter that I must loosen and then spray and tighten again
    Thanks mate

same problem.. one click and no start. i had someone look to see if there was a spark.. and there was. i cracked off the biggest nut to try completely removing it to clean. i wanted to shine up all connecting parts. as i was unscrewing the nut it stiffened up a little because of the exposed outer thread being cruddy, but not excessively, but then the whole bolt started turning. i didn't realize at first as it wasn't that obvious, so i think i got a full 360 turn at least before i stopped. i tried to tighten it back up again, but it just spun together the same as before. still solid tho, but not nipped up as i'd like. i had someone start the car (and it did, and it does every time now) as i was under it to see it there were any sparks, but there wasn't. i'll have to see how i get on now and hope it stays this way. if not then it's a new one probably. so, i'd say wd40 it with a straw for accuracy, and with the + battery lead off. wd40 it two or three times in half an hour, then leave it for another half an hour to penetrate. yes!... it's an hours wait, but worth it to avoid the issue i just had. (if the wd40 works of course).
