- Here is everything we did to check and fix our Ford Focus that has power lights horn wipers but clicks or will not start
it could be the starter relay fuse neutral safety switch bad broken electrical wiring TCM transmission Control Module ECM electronic control Module BCM body Control Module and even the remote starter problem there is also a recall recalls for this vehicle at ford as well.
This should work for 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2.0L and 2.3L 4 cylinder automatic

You saved my night and lots of money man!! My car doesn't started, it was giving fault, basically it wasn't sending proper signal to start the car. I swap the relays car started to working. All I need to do just get a new relays and replace with old ones. Best wishes man! Respect..
You just saved me from a huge headache. I got a 2014 focus 70k miles on Craigslist last week for $700 they were asking $1500 the ad said possible bad engine won't start. I had it towed to my house.
I was thinking maybe starter battery wiring or maybe the motor was locked. I just went outside put it in neutral and it started idk why i didn't think of that. Insane perfect timing on this video

Once I’ve dropped my remote control for my G35 and just picked it up and continue. Later my car didn’t start. After research 2 hours we’ve found out that there is a small chip for the immobilizer. So I’ve went to the place where I’ve dropped my remote and found the tiny chip on the floor. Put it back where it belongs. The car started immediately. This video reminds me of my first Cadillac from auction, it too was a no start. Battery and power was good, but starter wouldn't turn engine over, I put a breaker bar on the crank, and with all my strength, I couldn't rotate the engine. So I was getting ready to pull the engine out, and I removed an accessory off the engine (which required removing the serpentine belt), and one of my parents, I can't remember which, asked me how things were going, so I was like "engine has to come out, it's frozen, see?" and I rotated the engine with little effort with a regular ratchet.... turned out that the alternator was frozen. When I had the drive belt on the engine, I couldn't turn it over, even with a breaker bar. With the belt off, it started with no issue (minus the missing belt).

Great step-by-step video, but my issue is quite different, Went out of town for 2 months, came back to a dead battery. Tried to "boost-start it with my battery charger and lost (almost) everything electrical. I have no lights on the dash but the radio, emergency flashers and the horn works, and the key fob (as well as the dash button) will release the trunk lock. I did disconnect the battery which took a charge (only a year old), still the same issue and I cannot get it out of “park” and I cannot update the time (won't save the changes)
So grateful for this information if I do need to take it to a mechanic I can let him no that I no what I'm talking about then the bill shouldn't b as high as iv been over charged a few times when letting them no I ain't got a clue about cars so thank you so much

My mom has a 2013 focus and hers are just recently started doing it it's a manual transmission so some of the things you said wouldn't really apply but and she does not have the remote start but I've had escapes a couple where the ignitions were bad so when you went to turn the key you had to turn it a certain way precisely for it to start cuz I had people that were not able to start my car because they didn't turn it properly so it was like a built-in auto theft system is only I could start so I was thinking that was her problem too but I don't know cuz that's very common in those I think you would think they would use the same ignitions so getting out of the car and listening for the starter I got to be the first thing we try next time it happens and then after that I'll look more into that ignition I had to have mine replaced on one before I got rid of the other one it was starting to go bad.
You pointed out the wrong starter relay. R10 is the black relay in the middle. Other two components to check would be the 5A ignition fuse and the 30A starter fuse. Otherwise, great, informative video!
Thanks alot my son's 2012 Ford Focus itermediately wouldn't start. I went thru every step got to the relay test and sure enough that was it. I actually had to remove both relays than reinsert. To get car to start. Going to see what happens when I turn off and try it again later. But ty
I changed my 2012 Ford Focus thermostat and my car wouldn't start after. I saw this video when I was trying to figure it out. So, just to let people know, there is a connection right above the hoses, going into the housing. That connection leads to the fuel pump relay. If your car wont start after you work on anything in that area, that might be it. When I pushed it in, it only moved about an 1/8th of an inch. Looking at it, I thought it was OK, until I pushed it in. Just thought I would put this out there, just in case someone is looking here for that same issue.
I have a 14 focus sedan as well with no remote starter, recently the car was dripping oil so had the valve cover gasket replaced and stopped the leaking, after turning the car on smoke was immediately coming out of somewhere which was weird it had never smoked, car turned off by itself in about 15 seconds. So now it won’t start without a jump but after the jump it will still turn off by itself , what could be the problem? Bad alternator? Starter maybe? Also shows up codes about the TCM on low power
Interesting information. I did have a 2013 Ford Focus and traded up to a 2015 due to an excessive transmission buckling problem. With this model year...I had a bad battery and could not push it out of my garage or out of PARK for that matter. Now it's draining again with the new battery 8 months later.
Question ... what would caused all the injectors not to fire ? I have a 12' focus and I am getting fuel at the high pressure injection and at the rail...it semi-run with starter fluid but obviously won't last long .. fuse for injectors and pump are good... how do I test crank position or cams position sensors?

There's a nut on the positive terminal of the starter the thick lead that goes directly to you battery
These particular starters draw alot of current and that nut Pitts and corrodes try in doing that nut and replacing it or use some sand paper to clean the nut I've had a few of these and both times it was that nut

I have a 2007 Saturn Aura and the car is working fine until I put it on reverse going up my driveway it will turn off so I have to re start it but it will turn off again until several tries I finally get it up the driveway. This doesn’t happen on flat surface any idea? Traction light does come on going up the driveway in reverse but once I turn it off traction light goes away too. Any ideas I would really appreciate. Thank u (fellow auto wholesaler in CA)

I am not a fan of remote starters unless it is factory I have seen them cause to many issues and make more work for me . it can cause a issue with any car not just a ford focus. one of the first questions I ask a customer now if they have a no start condition is do you have a aftermarket remote starter

Or just disconnect the remote start external relay on Comps, connect green only and re-join cut starter wires on DEI products, I've been doing alarms and remote starts here in the UK for 30 years, never ever had a failure from the immobiliser, usually a bad solder joint.
PS, failure point in the UK Focus and Mondeo (Fusion), w/washer pump leaks, water travels (capillary action) through the loom and corrodes the green plug on the BCM, failure to start etc.
Any ideas for my 2014 Focus. The brand new battery dies every night, the starter and alternator are both good. Odd electrical glitches come and go. Like when the window rolls up it automatically rolls half way down, sometimes when jumped off it won't go into reverse or drive until it dies and I have to jump her off again.

Mines under 20k. I let it sit over the winter and I never start it up. I got new battery other day and it still will not start. Its a ticking sound like it want to but not enough power. 2011 Ford Focus MK3 Titanium Diesel (with keyless start-stop push button, with NO remote starter, nor any after market systems added to it), running fine, just came out of the Ford Car Service after changing the distribution (normal operation after a specific number of years/kilometers/miles) and had everything checked. Had the battery recently replaced with the one according to the specifications (75 Ah, 730 A, EFB technology for supporting start/stop system). After around 600 kms, in the middle of the night, while running, suddenly displays message on the dashboard: "Engine malfunction. Service now!" I pull over, stop the engine and inspect the engine compartment. Nothing suspicious. Nothing leaking. Normal temperature, normal oil level, fuel tank full. From that moment on the car won't start anymore. No cranking sound, just a low "tick" sound from the fuse box when trying to start it. The first engineer inspects it and says it's a FordKey issue, as the electronic key chip it's no longer being accepted by the car. Brought to the Ford Car Service, they inspect it thoroughly and they say it's not that. The battery power is fine (12.53V), the fuses are good, the relays are good, the starter is fine (they even tested it separately), the computer diagnostic doesn't reveal any error codes. They claim all systems are fine, but they can't find what's wrong. After several resets, as a last resort, they upgrade the engine computer software and miraculously the car starts normally again!
So what was the problem? i ask. The engineer gives me a shrug saying he's never seen anything like that ever before.

i have a 2004 ford focus sometimes it wont start so i had the battery checked an the alernator and they said both were fine so i got a jump box for when it doesnt start and it always reads it like one number down from being fully charged . any ideas what else it could be.
I also buy and sell cars and even something like a cheap watch battery in the remote has caused super odd issues. I had a 2005 accord that couldn't be 100% fixed even after taking it back to best buy under warranty like 5 times. Factory is the way to go.
I was trying to start mine, it wouldn’t start. I have replaced everything! It would start with a jump, the battery is 12.6v, new alternator, car would run with battery disconnected, we left it running tonight for 8 hours. Shut it off to go inside but immediately try to start again. Wouldn’t start, just clicking sound. Then I messed with the cables a little bit, including the yellow and green wire going to the negative and then it started back to back no problem. This has to be a bad connection right? Ground?

I just had the head lining out of my Focus Trend wagon and the engine wouldn't turn over, didn't recognise any gears, really weird. Something to do with the R/H cable going down the A pillar when it was unplugged
Had battery tested was definitely bad needed replacement which i did . Still taking more than one try to start . Was told by experienced mechanic that it's not starter since a bad starter wouldn't crank at all ? Is this true ? Soo was definitely bad battery but is it just coincidence that this happened at same time ? Coulld bad battery cause this other problem ? Unfortunately also when I replaced battery I left air flow sensor disconnected ( disconnected to get in battery ) and ran it for test drive . Soo now mass or volume air flow sensor code PO103 showed up along with PO113 Intake air temp sensor . Weird question - could either a bad battery and or me running car with Mass / volume sensor disconnected cause this ?

I have a 2016 ford focus and it's not starting was told its the fuel pressure sensor but I think it's the transmission. Is there anyway to tell the difference?
Could it be the alternator if the battery has life but not sustaining a full charge?
Ive been installing remote starters for 24 years. Never have i had a car not start due to one. If you have a bad installer that doesnt solder wires properly or connect them properly it’s possible. But theres no reason anyone should be afraid to have a remote start installed from a repair shop.

My 2014 Ford Focus won’t shift out of park unless I manually do it by pushing the plastic part on the shift interlock solenoid. Mine also doesn’t say that it’s in park and won’t start. It says it’s in all the other positions when I move the stick but not park. It also makes the power flicker when I push the button on the shifter. I have no idea what the issue is, anybody have any ideas?

Have have 2016 Ford Focus SE .. had to replace the battery.. after that system fault light and no hill assist light comes up and won’t start. I towed to dealer because of warranty and they told me no power now. It had lights and dash lights on when I towed it.

unfortunately this was not my problem. My 2018 focus died on me while on the highway. I had it towed. I have since replaced the battery, the main fuse, and all the minifuses,(the fuses in front of the batter, behind the air intake) and it still wont start. I had a friend use a portable jumper, which,k to my amazement, started right up. I drove it around for 45 minutes no issue. but once I turned it off, it wouldn't start again. Any idea what might be the cause?

I don't have a remote starter. Battery is over 12.4 V so their power but no ignition at all.

150 amp junctions box mega fuse is the main power. I believe there is another 30 amp also

What if you turn the key, hooked up to jumper cables, and get no headlights, but the key fab works the door locks, and the tail lights blink, but try to start the car, and she gets no dash lights, and car won’t start?
How bout if it stalls after getting fuel and drove like half a mile and then wont start?

Just a head's up: you could have headlights, interior lights and radio but the battery might not have enough juice to crank the engine. No crank first thing to do is boost it.
MY F150's battery goes dead because I don't drive it enough and I can get in and everything works but not enough to crank the engine. Pull out the battery booster and fires right up.
My Ford Focus mk2 2007 model has the same situation as i don't don't drive it much. After i start the car with a portable booster and leave the car running till it reaches warm around 15 - 30 minutes, turn off the car and try to start it again and same situation. Any idea ?
@@soldier2gud4me do you have a volt meter? Check to make sure the alternator is charging.
You can pick one up off amazon or many auto parts/electronics stores.
Your alternator should be putting out somewhere around 13.5 to 14.2 volts when the car's running.
It could also be a ruined battery not holding a charge. The cheaper check is to check that the alternator is working, ($10.00) much cheaper than another battery. Plus if the alternator isn't charging, it will just ruin the new battery.
@@muskokamike127 yes it shows at 13.7 and 14 after the car starts by booster. Despite leaving the car on for 30 minutes, turning the car off then ON seems to not have enough battery power to crank the car up. I think i will disconnect the battery and charge it with the portable booster first to optimal level and try again. I have a feeling this is got to do with a CFL angel eyes i installed that might be draining the battery.
@@muskokamike127 First i will try to disconnect the angel eyes and keep the car running for 30 minutes and to see if there's any change when turning off and on again.
@@soldier2gud4me That could be it, but a battery should hold a charge long enough to start a vehicle after it's been running for 30 minutes. Even if there's a direct short in the lights.
What's the battery show in volts when the car hasn't been started? What's the date on the top of the battery? With your alternator putting out the correct voltage, it is most likely a bad battery. If there's a short in a cell, it won't put out ANY voltage or way less than it should.
So just gonna leave this here, most dealerships will actually install a aftermarket remote starter on vehicles and say it's OEM lol.

@@emmaauta3296 I try to tell everyone there a open trans recall on these cars now the tcm is junk ive had mine replaced 12 times and the trans it self 4 times you gotta be careful when it comes to the 2012-15 ford focus because of all the problems
