This Ford Escape was towed in for a no start. The ignition module is the most common problem, however I've seen a faulty ignition contact switch, a relay, and a bad starter also cause similar problems. So here a quick video to pin point the problem along with how to replace the ignition housing without removing the steering wheel.

I just bought a 2008 Ford escape hybrid for 1500 bucks looking through the receipts in the glove compartment it had been in the shop multiple times for a no start condition. The guy that towed it to my house said he has towed this car at least seven times. After some research and some basic countryman knowledge and old-timer skills. I did the first thing you do when there’s any electronica problem on any vehicle. This is what we did in the good old days boys and this is what everybody should do now. First thing you do is make sure the ground from your battery to the frame is excellent. That means disconnect the bolt that attaches to the frame of the vehicle and make sure it is polished and clean and that ground cable from the 12 V battery is getting an excellent connection. Once I did this all the codes disappeared the mysteriously problem vanished. Can you believe it now I have a beautiful Ford escape hybrid that I got for 1500 bucks that runs like a dream. Do not focus on the mysteriously hybrid battery issues that cost thousands of dollars start with the cheapest easiest thing to do every single timeOn every car. Any electrical problem start with your ground. All these cars just like in the good all days need a good solid ground to start.

My ford dealer told me this would be a $800 repair. So glad to see that it can be fixed with parts from Amazon and an afternoon of my time! Thank you so much! ❤️‍🔥

This is the best video on the replacement of ignition collar. I just completed the installation of ignition collar on my 2009 Ford Escape LTD with v6. Follow Chris's advice. Beware there are 4 wiring harnesses that have to be disconnected and reinstall. Also beware the new collar come with the ignition switch so the new unit does not look like the old one. The chisel trick works great on security bolt, I had to chisel it several times to get "hand loose". Trickiest part is getting the 5.5mm bolt in front of the ignition key out and back in the 1/4" ratchet with swivel does the trick (this is the only reason I see to pull the steering wheel). It is better to align the bottom and ignition 5.5mm bolts first on reassembly then the top and finally security bolt. I appreciate this video so much I left him a little $ thanks. This saved me big time!

Your video is dead on fantastic. You covered every single step. I'm a 69 yr old woman and you made it easy to replace the housing on my 2011 Ford Escape. ( My husband was pretty proud of me too!) It saved me probably about $600 at the dealership. I didn't have to remove the airbag either which I absolutely did not want to do! I will look to your videos 1st for any other problems I have with my vehicle and tell others about "NoNonsenseKnowHow" Thanks so much.

THIS IS THE ONE. I've watched a few dozen of RUclips Ford Escape ignition collar replace videos. Had me with the chisel trick. I used a Chinesium Harborfreight screwdriver sharpened on the driveway. Plus no airbag or clock spring removal. I just fixed my 2008 Mazda Tribute. (rebadged Ford Escape) Only suggestion I can add, is go to the hardware store, buy a 8x125 "hex head" bolt rather than use the "security" torque break-off bolt. Just in case ... Ain't nobody gonna go to steal an 14 year old Ford Escape. THANKS for the video.

Bought part on Amazon for $47... bolt for $5.... saved myself $700 from what the dealer quoted. I'm terrible with car fixes normally but your video was easy to follow and well done. Thank you so much!

I followed the video and everything went relatively smoothly until it was time to put the key cylinder into the new housing. It was a very difficult fit and when I tried twisting it back and forth to slide in, the metal part inside the black housing broke lose after the cylinder was seated which allowed me to pull the whole thing out. I hoped that once I put it all back together and tightened it all, it would be fine. If I push in to make sure it is seated, it starts with no problem. I'm left wondering if I should order the Dorman one and redo it unless there is a way I can glue that part in place. The video was of great help.

You are a KING! For months I've been having to start the car for my wife as she could figure out how to toggle the key. Checked with the shop and they wanted $350 - $500! Followed your instructions exactly, and it's working like new. So great that you are here to help the clueless like me. Thank you!!!!

OMG!! I cannot thank you enough!! This video saved me time from having to find something to take the steering wheel off and all that. It took me a little while because I didnt have the swivel head but my landlord helped come up with another solution to get the bolt out in that tiny area. Then I couldnt get it to line up with the wipers/signal. BUT I got it on!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!!!! My mom couldnt get it to start before but I always could. Now she can too!!

Great video Chris! You just saved me $300 and a lot of unnecessary hassle. The Mercury dealership wanted $125 just to diagnose the problem (which I already knew what it was having replaced the ignition switch to no avail and seeing your video). The local car shop wanted $400 to replace the unit. I purchased one on Amazon for $90 and had this fixed in a little more than an hour. I purchased a swivel adapter set from Harbor Freight for $8 and a small cold chisel at the Depot for $5 and it made the job much easier. Also didn't have to remove the steering wheel as suggested on other videos. Thanks again and bravo!

Out of all the videos I’ve seen this…. This is the one ☝️. Everyone removes the whole steering wheel making it more complicated then it should be just to get to the ignition switch, you are a time/ life saver thanks for the video man !!

Great video! Just replace the housing on our 2010 Ford Focus and ignition works like a charm. I initially followed other videos about replacing the ignition switch but the problem was still there. Your video explained everything in great detail and step-by-step instructions. The entire housing cost me $120 at a local auto parts store. It took me 2 hours to replace. The trickiest part for me was getting that one 5.5 mm bolt out above the key housing (

Fantastic succinct to the point. No wasted air time. But you also did not skip important steps. This is how every how to video should be filmed.

This is the video to watch if you have this issue. Very easy fix that I'd been told would cost about $1000. Did it in 30 minutes for the cost of the part. Thanks for the video!
