The low light capability of the Zf is astounding. So I hope they continue with the 24 MP sensor and do not compromise the low light performance by an increase to 33 MP. The one thing that actually might influence me to change from the Zf to the Z6iii would be if they don't have the cursed flippy screen on the Z6iii. That flippy screen just annoys me no end every time I use the Zf. It is becoming intolerable. The LCD on the latest Sony's is the best in the industry.
I don’t own a Zf but the images I have seen from it at higher iso don’t strike me as majorly better vs the Z6 II, which is why I think we need a new sensor… I’m unconvinced there’s much development left in it - but happy to be proven wrong 🙂
Yep 100% agree. I wonder if it’s just wishful thinking on my part though. 33mpx would be the new sweet spot for me, however if they do stick with 24 I really hope it’s a new version of it, as the current one feels like its capabilities are already maxed out.
Nikon has already shown us what we can expect from a Z6iii. The Zf is basically the baseline and they won’t change that much from it. They have to stick in the price bracket of the Z6ii and if they make the Z6iii too different from the Zf, two things can happen: 1. The Zf will be too expensive compared to the Z6iii. 2. The Z6iii will be too expensive compared to the Z8.
I don’t disagree, but I do think there are expectations around 6K video - which wouldn’t require a new sensor. But would be quite a headline feature. I do wonder if we will see them using a 33mpx sensor. The 24mpx one is getting on a bit now. I mean iterations of it were in use a fairly long time before the Z6. But yes I agree with both your points but I’m curious what direction they will take. I expect 2500 ish for the Z6 III
@@HamerReviews yeah. But if they bring 6k video to the Z6iii, I am 99% sure that we will see a firmware update for the Zf to bring the same features. In terms of pricing, I am with you. 2499 will be it.
@@thomasa.243The way I see it, the Z6 III will come with 6K to compete with the market, Nikon may plan on also doing 6K RAW internally, much like how the Z8/9 does 8K60 RAW internally. I also believe they will include active cooling to allow the camera to have long recording times and be competitive with the market. I believe there will be quite a number of enhancements and features to push the price point closer to $2,500 and maybe higher. Nikon is courting content creators who typically didn’t shoot with their cameras and video will be the bigger piece of this camera’s appeal. Making it better than what’s currently available, with more features on board, will aid them in selling more of this camera. As far as the Zf, I doubt it will get 6K, it’s more of a photo based camera with some updated video specs, over the Z6 II however, unlike the Z6 II it doesn’t get RAW capabilities. In addition, based on the Zf’s price point, the Z6 III will most certainly not be priced similarly.
The Z7iii is a long way down the road. Would it be 60-80mp? Would it then be medium format? For the time being, the Z7ii will be the less expensive alternative for those who want 45mp. Look for a “not on sale” lower standard price for the Z7ii
I’m honestly not sure it is, I expect that the Z7 III will launch with the Z6 III with the same sensor… No way it’d ever be medium format, I honestly don’t expect to see that from Nikon in even the near future - but I’d LOVE to be wrong. I think the Z7 III might be a struggle pricing wise, at 3k why would you just not spend a little more on the Z8?
I have the Zf, and am satisfied with it. I am just an amateur, so all the fancy features, I am yet to explore. I've never been interested in a Nikon camera until the Zf, so I got it in blue, because aesthetics are important to me. Whatever the other Z cameras come with, will be of little to no interest to me. I am only here in the discussions, to boost the Al(Gore)Rhythm.
Thank you for your comment! I still have had barely any time with the Zf but would really like to do so at some point as it seems like a really well rounded packaged for what it is! Love that you bought the camera you liked based on aesthetics, absolutely nothing wrong with that, I hope you’re enjoying it! 🙂
Hobbyists are most likely to buy such a camera. 24MP is enough for most. Mostly importantly having ProresRAW 4K and bird AF will make this a good sell.
Z6iii should focus more on video aspects, if 24MP. Articulating screen 10bit internal, 4k 60 or above uncropped, ibis, better af... Instead of Z7iii, an APSC higher MP body for sports and wildlife will be better with same size body as z7. 😊
Agreed, it’d be nice to see the video side given some priority. I know what you mean re APS C body, but honestly I just don’t get the impression that’s it’s a focus for any of the big manufacturers at the moment - but would love to see Nikon give us a D500 equivalent
Hello, to be honest, the Z7111 or Z6111 are of little interest to me. I always have used top line equipment because when I buy I also keep for several years. I am interested however, in Nikon’s approach, as they need to bring the level of camera that the demand desires. The lower end is lacking compared to competitors, just as the mid ground is. I agree that Red development additions are a long way off. I want Nikon to continue the new approach of firmware support and to have cameras to target each level, so they attracted all levels of photographers. I really expect exciting things, just before the Olympics, low level and high level, which would match their registration of forthcoming bodies. I do think the models will fill the gaps and give us all what we want. Sorry if I’m a bit negative, but I am honest. I do like your channel, Thankyou TonyH
Hey Tony, to be honest I don’t think you’re negative - those are all valid points. I think the 2/2.5K mid range is a bit lacking so it’ll be interesting to see what Nikon does. And the lower end is definitely due an update. Unfortunately I really don’t think we will get camera updates for the olympics - not high end stuff anyways. But hopefully I’m wrong 🙂
Z6iii will be a Zf on steroids. A 24.5mp sensor with a read out speed approaching 10ms or better. Equivalent or better IBIS than the Zf. Body features you find in the Z8 and a new EVF & better rear articulated screen.
You know I hadn’t considered a new EVF but actually that’d be a nice upgrade they could add without cannibalising the Z8. Agree on sensor read out being better be the ZF!
As a Z6II and Z9 owner I'm looking forward to the imminent Z6III announcement. I have a deeply rooted fear however that it might be underwhelming, that is to say it ends up being effectively a Zf housed in a more contemporary styled body similar but smaller than the Z8. I hope a battery grip is available for it too.If it is I also would like it to be able to take the ENEL18D battery much like the D850 could take both ENEL15's or the much larger ENEL18's. Given its release will likely been timed close to that of Canon's R1/R5ii it might get lost in all the hype surrounding these flagship bodies. The Z6III really needs to be highly competative price wise and feature packed to boot. A bump to 33 MP might be nice but what would really elevate the Z6III would be if it too utilised a stacked sensor and maybe ushered in a completely new Expeed 8 processor! This would not only secure its dominance in the mid market sector right now but would remain so ( with the help of firmware updates ) well into the future when it would still need to compete against future Canon R6 III and Sony A7 V models 😉
I hate to say it but we won’t see a new processor in the Z6 III, I just can’t see it happenings I don’t care about the battery’s anymore, given that USB C power has improved but I’d love to see some fast charging! I don’t think it following the Zf would be terrible but it does need something to stand out… unless of course it’s a Zf at 2,000… but that won’t happen

I would love to see a 33 megapixel sensor! This would be a decent increase in resolution without the massive 45 megapixel file sizes.
Yep 100% agree. I wonder if it’s just wishful thinking on my part though.
33mpx would be the new sweet spot for me, however if they do stick with 24 I really hope it’s a new version of it, as the current one feels like its capabilities are already maxed out.
Always love your insights - thanks!

I’m looking forward to it that’s all I can say! As much as I wanted a Z8, I just don’t need it!

Nikon should add fully articulating+tilt on z6/7-3 dont use only FA. i hate FA. not suited for street waist shoot at all.
