I went from F65 to D70 to D300 to Z6ii to Z8 when it released. While there are some things that annoy me with the Z8 (lack of user settings and command dial, relatively short battery life) I'm still happy that I jumped to the Z8 instead of waiting for a Z6iii. I hope you enjoy your new Z8. 🙂👍
Honestly, I'm with you on the points mentioned. I'm planning for the Z8 myself. Previous I was using the D850 and I regretted in selling that off. No doubt the Z6III is a good all rounder but the resolution just doesn't cut it for me? Yes, with pixel shift you could get better but you can't be expecting to shoot that way as a norm do you? Had Nikon put in the old D810 sensor in it, I would take it out of the shelf right now. After a deep scrutinizing on viability, long term usage and overall delivery, the Z8 ticks all the right boxes for me eventhough the specs in this body is an overkill for me. I think in today's world there has to be a compromise on anything. Even that Tamron 35-150 is so tempting for me too, could save me from getting a 24-70 and 70-200 combo. The 135 Pleana too is just not there for me as you have to be quite further out to compose, hence why I may opt for either the 85 f1.2 or go with the F 105 f1.4 with the FTZ2. Nevertheless, its just my two cents of thought on the matter
@@hishamosman4341 sounds like you thought it through well. Agree the Tamron 35-150 is on my wishlist, first time I’ve wanted a third party lens in a long time!
I was looking at the Z6iii from a D750. Today I ended up getting a Z8. Ultimately the Z8 felt like more of an upgrade and has a much better body IMO when it comes to ergonomics and buttons.
I'm in the same boat, still using the D750, having bought it when it first came out, and working just as well now as it did when I first took it out of the box initially! But, that was many years ago, and I'm thinking an upgrade might be a worthy investment, even being an enthusiast rather than a Professional. Still unsure whether the Z6iii or Z8 will win out, as the 24.5 Mp are plenty, but as you say I like the button positions on the Z8 a little more. I believe they both have back-lit buttons, and focus stacking, am I correct?
@@Powerstroke98 I really like the button placement and ergomics of the Z8, I'm almost used to it but it's not as nice as the D750. The backlit buttons are a really nice addition. I've been doing a lot of astro this past week and they've been super helpful. I usually do focus-stacking manually but it does have an auto stacking feature in the menus I think. I wouldn't be surprised if the Z6iii had it too though. The D750 is still amazing, I think it's still better than the Z8 when it comes to noise and dynamic range. But I'm yet to try downsizing a Z8 file to 24mp to compare noise etc.
My thought process mirrored yours. In Canada for me, the Z6iii is $3400+ 13% tax. I ended buying a lightly used Z8 for $350 more than that and feel good about the value of the Z8 over the Z6iii
Thanks for sharing! I don’t think we are alone either. Have to say I‘m loving the Z8. It feels a bit like when I got my Nikon D1, a lot of room to grow into the features and abilities of the camera.
I understand your reason. For me it might be slightly different. The IBIS in the Z6 III is ahead of the Z8, and it’s smaller and lighter as well. It is still not a done deal, since the image quality is basically the same as my D750, but for travel, I really like those things. I do wish it had the sensor shield from the Z8 though…
I can understand the allure of better IBIS! To be honest I never had an issue with the Z6 II so the Z8 isn’t disappointing. I agree re the sensor shield - super cool on the Z8 and can’t see why they couldn’t use the shutter on the rest of the Z series
Z6iii is oriented toward video. Fewer overheating issues than Z8. A little less money. Flippy screens. It seems pretty clear. Younger / youtuber / wants less weight === Z6iii. Older / more focused on photo (but also does video) = Z8 / Z9. They're all great.
My gut reaction to that was ‘surely it cannot be worse than the Z8’. But the brightness is a fair point, screens are often the biggest energy draw on a lot of devices… However I think the partially stacked vs fully stacked sensor might mean the Z6 III is better, equally less information to be read from the sensor due to roughly half the megapixels. As such this could be a really interesting test. Thanks for your suggestion!
The price difference seems to be country-dependent. In the US, * Z8 at launch: $4000 USD * Z8 a year after launch: $3500 * Z6III at launch: $2500 [prediction: Z6III a year after launch: $2000] For anyone who thought the Z6III would have a global shutter, can I offer you a unicorn? * A9III: 24mp global shutter, $6000 USD * Z6III: 24mp global sensor, $2500 USD ?!? For anyone who thought the Z6III would be 33mp, that is half-way to the Z8: * 37% increase from 24mp ==> 33mp * 37% increase from 33mp ==> 45mp [In photography, we use ratios rather than differences, so this is the right maths to use.] For the file size complaint, the Z8 has the same 45mp as the D850 from 2017. Seven years later, time to upgrade the computer.
I mean I wouldn’t mind if it made coffee? 😂 I’m not actually upset, the discussion I was trying to have was that for me the Z8 ended up making more sense, if anything also financially in a weird way. I can’t wait to test a Z6 III and spend some time using it, but the price hike was just a surprise that pushed me to the Z8 - that’s the core of the video. @unconventionalreasoning I do t disagree with what you said. Though can’t see why the 33MP wasn’t out of question. As for Z8 file sizes - some of us are coming from the Z6 / D600 / D750 route, not the D850 route 🙂
1. what is "global sensor"? 🤣🤣🤣 2. "37% increase from 24mp ==> 33mp [In photography, we use ratios rather than differences, so this is the right maths to use.]" is really "Unconventional Reasoning", BUT without any common sense 🤣🤣🤣
@@HamerReviews 24mp and 33mp are imperceptibly different, about 16% different. For pixel peepers only.. When we talk about aperture changes, are we talking about differences or ratios? What does a "2-stop change" in exposure mean?
