    Hey Mike. I took a boiler coarse with a few guys that know you, Ivan from weil McLain was one. We discussed the ignitor gasket that supposedly doesn't come in the boiler kit anymore actually is hidden in the little inhibitor box. I asked in class what was up with that and they explained in gets less damaged in box. Sooooooo they are still there. I talked you up buddy, and because of your videos, I looked like a pro. Thanks pipe doctor.

    As always I'm very impressed with your work! But in our area the boilers are so old it makes that thing look like a cute water softener. For the first couple times I thought it was a water softener when I seen you guys working on it and I didn't understand what you were saying. Of course you know I'm in repair at all. I'm just interested in how nice you treat your customers. Keep up the great work (I think I figured out why we have very few new boilers. Most homes are going to high efficiency deducted heating and cooling and even I like our high school has went to ground water heat pump .)

    Should be torquing the burner plate/front HX cover bolts with a torque wrench in the specified pattern found in the manual, Dr.

    • @josephfarley3526
      @josephfarley3526 3 месяца назад

      I have found that torquing the nuts at the prescribed 50 inch pounds is scary because the bolts will snap. They know this because they come with the cleaning kit. I’ve asked Weil McLain about this with no concrete answers. But if you read the Manual on page 111 for Ultra 155 - 399 line #13 it actually says “ the final torque MUST NOT exceed 50 inch-pounds +/- 10 inch-pounds.So they are saying tighten the nuts in the correct pattern but don’t exceed that number. But it doesn’t say torque To 50 inch-pounds very vague.

    You could add a transparent Plexi as temp. cover , this way you can flush the heat exchanger full power with water. In the meantime it is automatically flushing, you can clean the real cover. ( what Peter was doing )

    My ultra 155 lasted 23 years before it started to rot, I serviced it every year and replaced inducer fan Assy and control board once. All in all a good unit. I did torque to 50 in lbs in sequence the cover plate as in the manual though. Stan.

    Unfortunately the burner and plate were put on someones floor and WM stipulates you need a resperator while using the "sword" and changing gaskets because of as you said earlier that the condensate is acidic. You didnt torque your burner plate bolts...the plate will warp now because of uneven torquing on each bolt

    You didn’t clean the heat exchanger properly. You need to “sword” it on an angle not just straight in. You’ll clean it so much better.

    • @John-ss8tu
      @John-ss8tu Год назад +2

      Exactly. He only cleaned 33% of it. It has to be cleaned with the sword at a 45 degree angle upward and at a 45 degree angle downward. A total of 3 orientations. Not just one. This is shown on Page 90 of the manual.

    Great to see people doing things the right way. I have to wonder what cost of 20 year ownership is between a gas high efficient unit and a standard boiler. Obviously you’ll save on the utility bill but maybe lose on the yearly maintenance costs?

    • @josephfarley3526
      @josephfarley3526 3 месяца назад

      You are not saving money! You are lessening your carbon imprint. People always equate high efficiency with saving money. Not true 25 years is tops for this boiler life opposed to dumb boiler last you 50 years!

    • @dwaynesykes694
      @dwaynesykes694 21 час назад

      @@josephfarley3526 you are lessening your bank account with high efficiency and making the executives and shareholders of the companies producing "high efficiency" equipment rich enough to fly around on private jets and heat their three mansions along with in-ground pools even when no one is there. Your personal "carbon footprint" is negligible compared to theirs. It's about money, not carbon dioxide. Want to be green? Burn all the fossil fuels you can to increase the CO2 levels on Earth, because historically they've been much higher than they are now. The Sahara Desert was once a rainforest... when CO2 levels were much higher.
