  • Honestly, this one is boring. Just routine maintenance on a neglected Ultra boiler. But...Getting it done. This WM was neglected for several years. Look at how clogged up the HX is...
Cleaned her out. Washed her down. Good to go.
    This is the tool: amzn.to/3otqnOS

Zero problems, maintenance or service with my Weil Mclain Ultra 155 series 2 for 17 years until now, blower motor stays on and won't heat (showing blower fault).
Took cover off combustion chamber, and yes it needs and is getting a good cleaning. Taking a closer look at blower while I have cover off. That's why I'm watching this video.
Weil Mclain tech runs his tool from bottom up, I'm sure it doesn't matter much. Good video!

Glad I have a conventional boiler, that does not need so much maintenance! Actually very little in 20 years, just replaced the hy-vent, because it must of worn out and leaked when the system cooled down.

I've performed the maintenance on many WM Ultra boilers. Both series 2 and series 3. I broke a screw or two trying to get the burner off the door. I would spray the screws with WD40 and let it sit for a while. After that I never had an issue getting the screws out. The red gasket is a PIA to install though. The kit from WM is great. Never really had an issue with the HX rotting out. I used to work in NJ near Princeton. I have not seen an Ultra boiler here in NC. Love the vids, keep them coming.

Tip, do not forget to clean the hole for the condensation water at the bottom of the drip tray, under the internal flue gas pipe, is often full of aluminum oxide!,and no i am not one from the 95%,haha,the entire inside of this boiler is Dutch, brand Remeha, I can dream those appliances, maintenance every year is actually recommended!condensing boilers simply require more maintenance than conventional boilers, if they are installed correctly, you will earn this back by savings on gas, return water must remain below 120 degrees for high efficiency

It doesn't appear that they did a complete cleaning of the heat exchanger. Once you get done rodding between all the fins horizontally, you need to aim the tool down at a 45 degree angle and clean between the fins all over again. Then do it one more time, but this time with the tool angled up at 45 degrees. This cleans the maximum surface area of the fins. Just rodding the heat exchanger horizontally like they did only hits the very top and bottom of the fins. In order to do a thorough cleaning, you need to rod them from multiple angles. Also, it's easier if you can have a hose with water trickling through it placed in the top heat exchanger to wash away the debris while you're rodding it. This helps loosen the corrosion while simultaneously washing it down to the bottom.

300,000 BTUs how many square feet was that place. I just changed out a 135,000 btus that was installed way back when my house had no insulation and single pane windows. I did heat calculation figured I only needed 57,000 btus. Calculation is based on a 14 degree farenheit coldest day for Long Island. So far mid January we might have come close to 14 degrees only once. I installed a 60,000 btus Rinnai combi boiler my house is nice and toasty. Crazy how many houses have over sized boilers.
