It still amazes me how a system based on 1, 10, 100 is difficult to comprehend :D I think it is mostly an 'issue' of not having a frame of reference (like someone who grew up with Imperial can spread his hands and roughly indicate what a foot is, and use his/her thumb and index finger to indicate an inch) so the a centimeter or decimeter simply cannot be translated to an actual movement/size. That said, so many machinists do it (it's how I learned to translate imperial to something I can visualize in metric) do it, so anyone can! ;)
It's because Americans can only measure things in Football Fields. But then when you call a game Football when it's played with the hands that's what you expect.
I know both well being in grade 6 when canada switched over. Still would use imperial for quick recognition. A mile comes to mind faster than a distance in kilometers. And miles per gallon is way ahead of litres per 100 km ever will be.
Directly from the app, no, I have never heard of that being possible in any DJI app. However, if you have a jail broken iOS device or a rooted Android device, it may be possible to do such thing through tweaks.
michael ross for me the Mavic Mini is AWESOME!! I love flying it as much as possible. For the price you pay it’s EXCELLENT, and I haven’t even considered upgrading since it does everything (and more) I was expecting! I would totally recommend it.
Nice to see your windy yard again. 🌬. I’m thinking you do not have the Air but I’m curious if I would like the mini already having the Air. Do you think it is a step backwards?
I do not have the Air, but I totally see that as a step backwards. With such a great sensor on the Mavic Air, I don't see the need for downgrading unless you absolutely need the very slight smaller size. I think you ought to stick with the Air, but that's just my opinion, it's ultimately up to you what you think is best for YOU! Hope this helps! Fly safe.

Hey Carson I asked you in another video before but I want your opinion again on whether the mavic mini is a good beginners drone cuz I'm also seeing the spark, mavic pro and phantom are also good options?
Love the vids Carson. As a brand new flyer I can't figure out how to switch screens. If I am in Settings doing safety I can't figure out how to get to my main screen. There's no "X" to tap nor does double tapping the current screen get me to the screen where I can take off. I hope this makes sense. How do I get out of Settings to my flight screen? TIA
Hey Dan, thanks for commenting! All you should need to do is tap outside of the settings window on the camera view you can see i’m the background. That’s at least what I do! I’ve noticed that if the DJI Fly app ever takes up the entire screen, it automatically knows that and adds an ‘x’ to escape the screen, so if you’re not seeing one, just tap the background behind the settings panel. Hope this helps!
Just got my first drone, mavic mini 2 se. Such a cool little device! Your info was so useful to a newbie like me and I will definitely update my settings for my second flight. I am constantly thinking and planning where to go flying. This is the most fun hobby! 😊
I recently bought a DJI Mavic Mini and the quality looks great until I upload to youtube it seems to go down, How do you get the best quality possible in post production with the Mavic Mini? Thanks!
You need Mavic Air 2 or Mavic Pro 2 if you want great pic quality cause Mavic Mini just toy drone for beginners or people can’t afford the Mavic Air2 or Mavic Pro 2
Hi Carson, do you need to calibrate the drone each time before take off? I mean mine it require me to calibrate each time before i take off and im wondering is it normal?
Hey Frankie! It really just depends on if you are changing locations or not. The correct answer is YES, calibrate before each flight, but in my case I’m always flying from the same location in my backyard so I don’t always do it each flight lol. Since I’m flying from the same location I just sorta wait until the app says that it’s having issues with the compass and then I calibrate. If your drone requires you each time, it’s likely because you’re flying from different locations each time and it has a new set of environmental factors to take account of. Hope this helps!
Excellent initial settings suggestions. I just got my very 1st non-toy drone, a Mavic Mini and it really is a very capable drone with excellent image quality. Now if you could explain the difference between frame rate settings.
Lovely video Carson. Just wondering if you could help me. Is there a way for me to have follow me or track me not using the quick shots? I just want my mavic mini to follow me if I am walking for more than 5 minutes?
Sadly, the DJI Mavic Mini does not have a form of that type of setting. It will sadly likely stay that way too, even though older drones they’ve made in this price range (DJI Phantom 3) have had this feature. Super sad, but I personally don’t really ever find myself using this TOO much on my Mavic Air 2, so I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, but would still be nice to have when you need it!
Hey man can I make a suggestion for your videos? Maybe it's not useful to others, but for me I like it when a video has a break between tips with a black screen and a numbered tip in large print so I can scroll across the video timeline (especially a video longer than 5 minutes) and get to a tip that I actually think I want to see. I think it would increase the replay value of a video. Just a thought, nice work and thanks for your effort!
Great idea! I do that in a few of my videos, especially more recent ones! Pro tip for all my videos though is that I utilize the RUclips time stamp feature where you can click on the progress bar or scrub through and there are labels that show up to help you easily find the sections you need :)!

Great video, thanks! Saving up to buy a Mavic air 2. How are you liking it so far? This would be my very first drone, would you agree it would be a good one for a beginner?
Hello. Thanks for your excellent video. While shooting in my church and wanting to get a vertical reveal from the floor to the organ, DJI wouldn't let me go higher than 15-20 feet. I was told that if I turned off the GPS, it would solve this problem and let me reach a higher altitude inside. Is this true? Thank you.
I'm not entirely sure what you mean with you first point. Did you misspeak when you said that "it's pretty critical" to change off from metric "especially if you're not flying in the US"? Shouldn't it be the other way around, or am I missing something?
OOPS! I missed that one! I definitely meant “especially if you ARE flying in the US” (since everyone here goes by imperial measurements). Thanks for catchin’ that! I wish I would’ve noticed that in the edit :/
It would be better for everyone to just start learning about and use the metrics system. It might not be what you've grown up with, but it's way more logical and therefore very easy to learn!
@@terracore yeah you also spent millions on developing a zero gravity pen when the Russians used a pencil.. but don't worry muricans are slowly realising how stupid the imperial measurement is..
@@terracore fair enough... what about all the nazi scientists that you had to steal after ww2 to actually make it happen.. America is rotten to the core
@@terracore Talking specifically about measuring: 5280 feet in a mile, 3 feet in a yard, 12 inches in a foot, an inch is divided into 32nds, there is no way to argue that imperial measurement makes any sense when you have 10 millimeters in a centimeter, 100 centimeters in a meter, 1000 meters in a kilometer. Yes I'll go to the end of my life estimating things in feet and miles but also knowing that metric makes way more sense.
Formatting an SD card or any storage medium for that matter completely erases all data stored on the SD card and ensures that the card is compatible with whatever device it’s connected to (in this case, the Mavic Mini).
Hey Carson... Good info, even for those of us who have been flying for a bit (just over a year for me). I've played with the Cine mode on my Platinum and 2Pro. Talk about slooooowwww response time. YIKES! While it does give the cinematic type smoothness, if trees are in the area, or flying over orchards, or a lot of brush type ground cover, you could be in trouble real quickly. Since I've experimented with the Cine mode, I just leave it P mode, and manually work on my stick control inputs. I have adjusted these under the EXP (?) settings - info gleaned from Ed Ricker, and Russ on a 51 Drones. Need to play with the input settings to get what I want in response time. I have yet to play with the auto flight modes. Cheers...
Tony, thanks for the input! I agree, the cinesmooth mode should be used lightly and only when you FULLY understand how severely it impacts your ability to maneuver the drone. You definitely need to play around with the autonomous flight modes sometime. They’re pretty interesting!
Lol, no, you are then flying illegally and are at that point liable to be fined by the FAA. Also, yes! Adapters are pretty cheap and available to purchase for smaller iPads. I’m not sure about larger iPads. You may need a tabletop mount for that in that case to sit down while you’re flying.
Would your recommend the Mavic Mini for a beginner? I live in a high populated city so I don’t know how the WIFI would be. I’m thinking of MA2 because of OCCUSYNC because of this issue.
Thanks for your video. It was very helpful to know how the DJI Fly app works to be able to change from metric to imperial measurement. Also how to Format the SD card to the drone. My first 2 flights with my new DJI mini SE were done without formatting and I only had cached video in low resolution on the app not on my card. Also I hit return to home and the drone flew to (approx.) 400 feet before adjusting for return to home function. I will be changing the measurements and formatting first thing. Thanks again for taking time and sharing what you learned!
Great info!...I fly everything from an M300 , Mavic 2 Enterprise, to the Mini at work and I didn’t know some of these “hidden” settings...thanks for sharing!
Will you always post in the corner of the screen what your wind speed is when you're filming? You seem to have wind all the time. There is always a wind here in Galveston Texas as well.
Does someone knows what are the penalties for flying a non registered drone? Also i read somewhere that the mavic mini is exempt from registration in the US as it weights less than .55 lbs and if it's being used for recreational purposes, is that correct?
Penalties, you could be fined - I’ve heard could be in thousands. The Mavic Mini is at this time, 8/31/2020, exempt from registration yes. Registering only takes literally 10 minutes and costs $5 though, so I register all my drones.
Question, I was tempted to fly my Mavic Mini under a water bridge. The bridge is 4 lanes wide. Clearance underneath is about six feet between the arch of the bridge and the water. Then I though, what if I lose connection? What if the drone wants to return and tries to fly up to the preset altitude? It would crash underneath the bridge and dive into the water. Am I correct? I wanted to film underneath the bridge, sort of like a tunnel shot/video.
Yes if you lost connection and return to home triggered the first thing it does is fly straight up to the RTH altitude setting, (unless you are within 20metres of the home point, in which case it lands immediatly.) So if you were under the bridge that would indeed be bad news, you'd have to change the RTH altitutde setting to something lower than the bridge, though you then have the danger of that being too low to clear obstacles.
Just got the mini 2, and I love it. 4k video, top speed of 35mph in sport mode ,ocusync 2.0 and the new controller. Its a great upgrade and awesome drone.
Sounds to me like you’ve got too slow of an SD card. Make sure when purchasing a microSD card that it is a Class 10 card. The ones I use and recommend are: - 32GB: amzn.to/3fvSzx4 - 64GB: amzn.to/3kYpc7u - 128GB: amzn.to/3610bo9
I'd like to change joystick settings and there is a 'custom mode' but I see no way to customize that. The other three modes leave much to be desired for myself. Is there a way to program the custom mode, or is it basically just a 'mode 4' and not changeable?
So I am impressed with your knowledge an insightful videos. So do you recommend this drone as the very first GPS drone for a beginner? If not which one do you like? Also have you tested or flown an Altair Outlaw. Thanks for your work.
Hey Ray! Thanks for the compliment, I really appreciate it :). I absolutely recommend the Mavic Mini! It’s a very great beginner drone that’s easy to use and packed with features. I have no personally tested the Altair Outlaw, so I can’t speak to that, but in general I find most DJI branded drones to be fantastic!
Almost disappointing how easy it is to fly. For someone who has never flown a drone before, just take some time learning the controls. If you release the sticks it will hover where it is. But you can have a bit of fun in sports mode with dual stick control
Bought this a week ago and love it. My only previous experience was a tiny tiny toy drone and the Mini is even easier to fly! If you've never flown before, get the fly more pack and start off with the prop guards on and take it slow, that way you're much less likely to do damage if you crash.

Great video. Thank you. I just got the mini today. I've never flown a drone so I'm very interested in your information.
Hey man, just wondering what camera you use to record your videos?
"Metric is the wrong measurement"
Also metric: **Is used in all but three countries in the world, the other two being small ones.**
Yeah putting men on the moon and bringing them back safely really sucks.
@@terracore yeah you also spent millions on developing a zero gravity pen when the Russians used a pencil.. but don't worry muricans are slowly realising how stupid the imperial measurement is..
@@MrRgaross That's an old wive's tale: www.scientificamerican.com/article/fact-or-fiction-nasa-spen/
How do you guys incorporate the images from your app into the bottom corners of your video?
Thanx for tips mate. I am waiting on mine and certainly looking forward to using your tips.
No problem! Hopefully it arrives soon so you can get out there and start flying :)
Amazing vid! A question tho: I didn’t rlly get the sd card part ?
Formatting an SD card or any storage medium for that matter completely erases all data stored on the SD card and ensures that the card is compatible with whatever device it’s connected to (in this case, the Mavic Mini).
Carson Miller tysm I appreciate it
Hey Carson...
What happens if you go over 400 to 450 or 500, does it self destruct? Is there an adapter or does the controller support an iPad?
Lol, no, you are then flying illegally and are at that point liable to be fined by the FAA. Also, yes! Adapters are pretty cheap and available to purchase for smaller iPads. I’m not sure about larger iPads. You may need a tabletop mount for that in that case to sit down while you’re flying.
Carson Miller how will they know?
Really good video. Thanks. Subscribed
Would your recommend the Mavic Mini for a beginner? I live in a high populated city so I don’t know how the WIFI would be. I’m thinking of MA2 because of OCCUSYNC because of this issue.
Really helpful video better than most other videos at the moment👌👍
No problem :)! Glad you found some settings that you hadn’t known about before!
Will you always post in the corner of the screen what your wind speed is when you're filming? You seem to have wind all the time. There is always a wind here in Galveston Texas as well.
Like always...great video. I bought MM because of your MM videos and I really love MM drone.
You're info is in depth and plentiful God Bless!
you gem that was so helpful for a beginner to follow thankyou for taking time to go over it .
When filming in 2.7k, can it be downloaded to your camera roll through the app or is 1080p all that it can download?
Very good video for beginners. Thanks!
Gladly! Thanks for watching🙌🏼
I'm asking about mavic mini ? Many people say biggest problem is signal ?
I haven’t had any issues! The signal is great on this little guy.
is the MAX ALTITUDE and RTH considers the elevation in the area (Above Sea Level) ? or it's the distance Above Ground Level? :)
AGL
@@abbeyjane1306 Thank you
Does someone knows what are the penalties for flying a non registered drone?
Found everything helpful. Been looking at the mini for a while now.
Glad this was helpful to you Victor! Thanks for watching and hopefully my videos can help you decide on that choice!
Just got my mini and you’d videos are really helpful
Just got the mini 2, and I love it. 4k video, top speed of 35mph in sport mode ,ocusync 2.0 and the new controller. Its a great upgrade and awesome drone.
Nice job this helped so much I used all of these
Great to hear Colton! I’m glad this helped you out :).
How do I make clips last longer because mine only last like 3 seconds ??? Help
Sounds to me like you’ve got too slow of an SD card. Make sure when purchasing a microSD card that it is a Class 10 card. The ones I use and recommend are:
- 32GB: amzn.to/3fvSzx4
- 64GB: amzn.to/3kYpc7u
- 128GB: amzn.to/3610bo9
@@carsonmtech thanks man 🙏🏼
Thanks so much Carson. You are so clear and friendly. Learning with your videos is a treat! BTW I just got the Mavic Mini... I am really excited.
I found this very informative and helpful, thanks.
Are you using which SD card please tell me SD card detail I want SD card by dji mavic mini
I’m using a SanDisk 64GB Micro SD card.

Great job bro I learn many things from you, thank you
Good video for beginner. Thank you so much Carson for a full and detailed explanation which I have never seen in other channels.
Doesn't payload mode limit the max distance to 160 ft
Crashed my mavic mini and gimbal fell off will it fly without the gimble camera assembly? Thanks
Invaluable information by a wonderful human being. Thank you.
Very Nice video - thanks from Denmark👍🏻
Can you do videos with the dji mavic pro platinum? please
