⚠️DJI has FINALLY released an update to allow manual exposure adjustments in VIDEO! Learn more in my latest video: ruclips.net/video/SpQ9LQ5St8Q/видео.html
So are these filters even necessary after the update?
I was just going to ask. Thanks
They are necessary unfortunately. Even with manual exposure you need the filters to reduce the light coming though the lens to get an optimal shutter speed. Not an ideal situation to have to make the purchase but the quality is so much better.
Polarisers don't remove all reflections, it depends on the alignment and where the sun is in relation to the camera lens. That's why they have a white mark on the front. You should shoot a video that shows the difference with the filter adjusted.
Great Video mate. Iv bought a set of filter to help with sun glare, they work really good.
Fabulous detailed video as always, Carson. I learned a lot going into the Mini. Still on the Phantom 3 standard!
With the new update to the Mavic mini you can now manually adjust you’re exposure even while recording
ISO and shutter speed, or just EV?
So you get blurry video with filters? Who would want that?
@@Gravedig00 No not overall blur as far as footage. You want motion blur when objects moving in footage so that it looks natural to the human eye instead of being overly sharp and choppy which is not pleasing to the human eye.
@@tracz99 shutter iso and EV all 3
GUUUYYYY!!!! Thanks for the information... These ROCK!
thnx for these videos, they are all awesome
Just subscribed; thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the video, I just ordered the 4pk polarized set. I can wait to film youth football games with them on.
There are settings to change the camera movement to make it more smooth. It would be great in combo with these filters.
Nice video sir very well done, I have some Phantom 4 ND filters Freewell sent me a few years ago and love ‘em!
Thank you! Also that’s pretty cool hope those are fairing well :)
New subscriber.. Awesome video.. Thank you so much. Will definitely going to be purchasing
I toaaatally NEED this
Thanks for info.
Me: Looks at wallet
Wallet: Don’t think about it
xD
Also my wallet: and don't even think about that drone...
"What`s inside here will absolutely change your life..." Lol.
Hi Carson! Nice Vid!
Good info. You are correct about spending money for quality filters. Cheap filters will definitely render poor results. Also, even with manual video control, you cannot reduce glare. You need a pola filter for that.
Great video. Thanks for the review. If you were to recommend 1 filter for everyday use, which one would it be? Would a cpl make sense?
The gum bro! Lose it when you’re vlogging. I can’t focus on what you’re saying. I keep staring at it.
😂😂😂😂
I was looking for this! Thank you so much and great Video.
If you want cinematic looking vids on bright sunny days, ND64 should be used. For overcast ND32. You want the Mavic mini to have a slower shutter speed so you can have that smooth cinematic blur between frames we are all accustomed to.
thumbs up , i got the sunnylife 6 pack set, im happy with that
To those saying that this is super expensive, $12/filter for a well-engineered one is not bad. Mirrorless and DSLR filters can run anywhere from $20 to over $100 each.
Great video! 👍
Good detailed information, thank you 🌿☕
They do the same with photos. If you want to shoot more open, get that butter bokeh in bright light you use a ND filter as well.
Any Landscape photograper will use then all the time
When you buy the filters and a month later they update it and you don't need it anymore 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks heaps.
You can adjust exposure, check the update
I just ordered some variable filters made by freewell for my zoom 49$ for a 2 set they make them for the mini you could’ve saved some money good review though!
how i wish to have that drone😊 even without a drone im still enjoying watching drones review❤️
I find American made Tiffen filters to be excellent for the mavic mini
Big thanks i was planning to buy but before i watch you video but after this i want to buy it
thanks again ................
Cool video so what are they building over the foot ball field and a base ball field and a school next?
School was already built, they’re just adding a new football field + baseball fields!
I have ND filters for my Autel Evo, they drastically improve the image, especially for when trying to acheive natural motion blur. I really wish that DJI would unlock manual video settings for the mavic mini because honestly that's all that's holding it back in my opinion. Great video!
For sure. The day they unlock manual controls in VIDEO for the Mavic Mini is the day I downright recommend this all around for lose not needing 4K video and wanting to get into flying drones.
Hey you! Nice to see you here, lol.
@@PalmettoMoon Ayyyy wassup! I've got that tutorial dropping this week 🤙
P
Speaking of weight, does it now weigh 250 grams with the filter attached and require FAA registration?
I decided to purchase the Skyreat filters as they had better ratings.
accessories help users to have beautiful movies
If you press the lock on the lower right hand on the screen in the dji fly app, you are actually able to manually change the iso and shutter speed of the camera
Not for video.
I’d love to get a polarizer lens but not all of them. Is there a good one out there or does it only come in a bundle? I’m new to drones and your videos are pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.
Good video :) stay safe
What is the difference between the filters, like when should I use one vs the other
Great video...
How do you know which ND filter to use? And since it’s auto shutter, how would you know whether the shutter speed you want is being achieved by the ND filter, is it just trial and error? Thanks!
As far as knowing which to use, the booklet that comes with the filters is incredibly helpful at guiding you to which filters you should use and in which circumstances. I’ve just sort of memorized some of that over the years of using ND, so that’s sorta how I personally know. But, as far as knowing if the filter you choose does affect the shutter speed as much as you would like it to, sadly, that one is more of trial and error. Because DJI doesn’t offer even the ability to see what shutter speed that they’ve chosen for you automatically, you just have to put them on the drone and see what the image looks like on the app before taking off. Personally, I’ve found ND16 introduces minimal motion blurring on very sunny days, with ND32 being pretty moderate and ND64 being very heavy motion blur on a very sunny day. I usually stick with an ND32.
@Carson Miller i have a question:
What's the weight for the drone with filter is on. I am afraid it be over the 149 g rule, if not I want.
Great video 👍
It's a 249 gram rule
Cool vid 👍
Thank you Leroy :-)
I have a DJI Osmo Pocket. I plan to buy the DJI Mavic Mini. The camera-heads on both look about te same. Can I use this ND filter set for both Osmo Pocket AND Mavic Mini?
Tiffen filters rule the air
oooh so teeny..i have to have them lol
GOOD SHIT. THANKS.
DBM. ENGLAND.
Nice Video
Bro i been watching u since u use phantom 4
Hi. First of all great video thanks. You’ve showed us how to put the filter on, my question is can you show us how to take the filter off? Thanks
That you found it helpful! It’s the same process, just in reverse.
Manual exposure adjustments have just been released in the new firmware package. YAY!
YESSS! New video covering this coming next week - stay tuned :)
@@carsonmtech I installed it last night. Man what a difference! It took a great little drone that is awesome for what it is and made it a beast.
Great video 👍🏾 just got my mavic mini 5 days ago. Just ordered my filters and some other Accessories today. Thanks for sharing I’m looking forward to more videos ✊🏾
Thank you! Awesome to hear you just got such a great drone ;). Fly safe and stay healthy!
Carson Miller Thank you and you stay safe as well
The first thing you should’ve done is mentioned how much
Please fly it over water with the polarized filter, dying to see if my mini will help spot fish and structure under water.
Few thoughts: Not a bad video. Info is helpful & appreciated. Thank you. However, first few Comparisons in vids with or without filter, not very sinc'd or long to get a good view. Just as I'm looking at one side to get an image and switch to the other, it switched to another segment. Finally, next time, PLEASE SPIT OUT THE GUM.
Hey Carson - I purchased and installed some motor covers (they look cool - red) but now I'm getting a payload message and my outbound distance is limited. They only weigh 1g each. Should this be? Should I even use them? TIA
How do you get the mini picture of you in the bottom right hand corner?
Nice video
Your new subscriber 😉
huge fan 🙅♂️
I’m glad to have you around :)
Does it change the gimbal motion? More laggy?
Is the weight over 250g when u put a filter on tho?
Can now change the exposure with the Mavic Mini, so that negates it, plus don't forget, adding this will make the drone OVER the 250g weight for the FAA. You'll then need to register it.
TLDW: They are ND filters to reduce glare. What a clickbait video.
Graeme Stevens how is it click bait? He says you need this accessory, says what the accessory is in the video title, then shows you the video. I’ve worked in film for 20 years, so I know the value of pola and ND filters. 90 percent of casual users will never have heard of ND filters. It’s good info for beginners.
No...they are not to reduce glare. What a weird thing to say.
Maybe you should have actually watched the video because that is NOT what he is saying.
I stand corrected. The title only shows freewall, the brand of ND. I do stand by the necessity of ND and pola filters, and the general populations lack of knowledge about them though. Good info for the minis target audience.
In my opinion the image of the mavic mini is always to bright, but isn't it possible to change the exposure with that ev thing in the bottom right corner? Of course not that specific as in a real manual mode. But anyways its definitely not replacing an filter 👍
If you go in Pro mode, you can do all but the aperture.
The mini,s Camera seems to be 2 stops over exposed ?
That's cool, though before I started watching your video I was sure that you had found something to add the tracking on Mavic Mini!! 🥺😢
like the filters though
The thing is this changes the takeoff weight. Even the little sticker from the creative kit does.
And with this comes more regulations where I live soooo these filters are no option for people in Germany I guess
Hey Carson how do you make appear the iPhone look to the left of the screen at 5:42
, why kind of app do you use or software? Or if anybody knows how to that I appreciate that..
I use Final Cut Pro X on my MacBook Pro 2018 15”. If you’re interested in seeing how I added that iPhone in the corner, take a look at this older video I put out (but still relevant) which shows how I did that! HOW TO RUclips: How I Edit My Videos With Final Cut Pro!

Carson Miller thanks for the link It is helpful ..
What is part number for ND filters for the DJI Mini
Its good 👍👍 don't forget....
Wouldn't the added weight of the filters make it so you'd have to register the drone?
Anyone here knows how I could fly my Mavic Mini in a subdivision that is in a NFZ? It says the location is near the airport but I I'm only flying like 15m because the houses are only 8m high.
Does it make the dji mavic mini more then 250 g?
Does the filter put it over the 249 gram mark?
Does it weigh 1 gram?
Harry potter on video 😁
But it will weight over 250g right?
1/3 of the price of the drone for some filters?
So do you live in Carson City?
Couldn’t take my eyes out that N 🤣
I have the same set. I’m having an issue with some red vignetting in the bottom corners with the polarized filters. Have you experienced this as well?
Hmmm, I have not experienced that. I’ve tested all the filters now and have noticed some vignetting on the higher ND filters but that was black vignetting, no red that I noticed :/
I’ve heard about this before and it seems to be just a reflection of the red circle of the filter, perhaps carefully painting it black with a sharpie might help?
1luisavil I haven’t even touched them since I got my Mavic Air 2 but thanks. Freewell refunded my money for that particular filter
Oh dude that's awesome I'm always forgetting allll my passwords lol is it on android???
Yep, it’s available on ALL platforms!
Is there a way you can have a co-pilot have his own screen and also control the camera with the Mavic Mini?
With the Mini, no. I’ve only ever seen that done with the DJI Inspire line!
Hi im looking for accessories tools like for my drone?
How much is the filter?
Hello. Anyone knows if Mini mavic is compatible with Huawei P40 Lite?
The link in the description takes you to multiple options for lenses. Which were the ones you recommend?
Isn't it heavier than 250 grm.?
Is it still under 250 with this on
An dam they jackd up that “N”
Yes, i got a Mavic Mini, and i love it 😃😃😃😃
I love my mini, bug remember the filters will pop the mini over the 250gm limit. Of course, the chances this will be picked up, but still a consideration.
Love your profile pic, alfa romeo its so underestimated.
Thank you. I am a tad Alfa and Vespa obsessed. Had a few Alfa's over the years.
What is the weight ? Need to keep it under 250g total.
I did not measure the weight of the filters. Being so small though, they’re incredibly light, but, they probably weigh between 2-3g for the ND filters and then 3-5g for the ND+PL filters
I live in Canada do I need a special permit to use this drone?Do I need wi-fi or internet on my phone to use this drone?
Phillip Vastopoulos this drone is 249grams, so no permit (yet) needed in Canada.
