I had it for decades. I have always been a gym rat too. Thick pecs, thick arms but protruding belly. It turned out my lower ab muscles were weak. I had to change my training. I do daily ab exercises.
Now I got flat stomatch after a year of training. Vacuums, front squats, leg raises, reverse sit-ups helped me the most.

44 yrs old, always trained though switched to more cardio in the last decade. In my mind, i know that i have been doing less with ab exercise, just generally. It shows around my stomach and looks odd compared to the rest of my physique. Pilates (matt based) is great for this - especially vacums, and the exercises you mentioned above are what i will incorporate more into my resistance training again. Thanks for the reminder!

For me, I was very skinny with a fat belly. I thought it was just a part of getting older. Actually, it turns out I had SIBO and a very severe microbacterial imbalance in my gut. Got a very detailed test that showed me the levels of good and bad gut bacteria such as H.Pylori, and even though I thought I was eating healthy, my scores were all very bad. So I needed to get very specific microbacteria and diet changes to specifically target overgrowing strains. After 3 months of treatment, my belly was flat as a pancake. Also, my gas, indigestion, and stomach pains went away too. If you're thin and have a belly, get this checked with gut bacteria diversity test panel. It's very much worth every penny.

In my case, it changed how my stomach looked like in ways that strength training didn't. Her videos are beginner friendly and are a great way to start. After some months (or maybe years) learning these poses you could try ashtanga yoga. But i don't recommend getting started with ashtanga! If you don't know what you are doing you will damage your body in serious ways. It is more advanced, so build the basics first. Right now I stopped doing strength training and cardio because ashtanga yoga has made my body more beautiful (in my own perspective) and I actually feel stronger than before when I was doing gym workouts. When I was a teen a read a book about breathing written by a women who was very inspired by buddhist teachings. She taught me the right way to breathe was into the soft, unstressed belly and avoid the hard, stressed rib breathing. Rib breathing was harmful, she stated quite clearly. It was the cause of stress and multiple ailments, she wrote. I remember thinking "huh, I breathe into my ribs a lot. Better try not to." I practiced avoiding "rib breathing" over the years and now I'm a skinny guy with a soft, rounded belly. Thought I just got hit by bad genetics.
Now I'll experiment with Conors method of breathing over the next months. If it works I'll celebrate by burning an album with hippie music and write a letter to the author of that book telling her not to disseminate anatomy taught by people living in medieval monasteries.

From what I know, full belly breathing is just a preparation to learn the "complete breathing" technique.
I learned about it from a yoga teacher, but never quite got the handle of it, so I have been doing belly breathing for years because I love the feeling of having lots of air in my lungs.
After I tried this video's exercise, I think I finally got it. The basics are the same (fill up your chest on inhale and contract your belly on exhale). The trick is not to expand your belly too much and focus more on your chest area. It's a lot harder than relying solely on your belly, so I think that's the reason why some people never learn complete breathing.
I'm still struggling myself, but I'd rather breathe using my belly than feel asphyxiated breathing like most people.

  • @hybridvenice
    @hybridvenice Год назад +616

I'm confused. At 0:40, you talk about the pelvis expanding and contracting during inhalation. That isn't possible. The pelvic bones are connected to the sacrum of the spine at the sacroiliac joint by tough ligaments. The pelvic bones also connect to each other by the pubic symphysis, which is also tough and largely immovable. The sacroiliac joint and pubic symphysis absorb impact (e.g. from jumping), but don't flex for breathing. In fact, the pelvis expands in special circumstances, like pregnancy, where the hormone relaxin causes ligaments to become loose to enable childbirth through a widened pelvis. In summary, the pelvic floor muscles do cooperate with breathing, but the bones do not.
Also, at 2:22, you talk about having your client exhale beyond what he normally would. It isn't normal for people to regularly exhale beyond tidal volume (normal breathing).
I think the whole point of this video is that people with protruding bellies aren't in the habit of forcefully and fully exhaling. But that's pathologizing what is normal biomechanics. Anyone who fully exhales will look thinner. What's probably more helpful is building transversus abdominis strength to reduce waist circumference.
In summary, I think you're slightly addressing the topic, but 1. mention incorrect facts and 2. do so by proposing the incorrect reasoning. It's honestly frustrating to see misinformation get so much attention and praise.

Abdominal obesity. Anterior pelvic tilt. IBS type symptoms such as what you’ve mentioned. Genetics, you name it. That being said I do strongly recommend that if you have this issue and it makes you self-conscious. Consider working on exercises that strengthen your core stomach upper back and your butt so it will help you with your posture and not make it look as extreme. Eating well is good for everybody. That means working on your gut health and eating fermented foods and or whatever helps your particular body. That’s going to vary from person to person. Really working on aligning your entire posture not just parts of it. Your lower back with your mid back with your upper back with your shoulders with your neck with your head all the way up from the top of your head to the end of your tailbone. Figuring out what the most natural position is but would also of the most proper is is a bit of a challenge but it will help. I would say that mewing and trying to fix my chin is one of the reasons it put me on this journey as well as being tired of looking pregnant and having a Pelvic tilt. I gained weight and that just made the entire thing look worse. I’m getting back in the gym and I’m getting stronger now and it’s getting better. I also got an inversion table which I do think is helping me decompress my spine and let my back straightened out.

Hey Connor! I am so happy and hopeful because I found your channel. I have been dealing with long COVID for almost a year which resulted in inflamation from chronic contractures to get worse, caused by compressed discs in all Cs and L4-L5, L5-S1. I would love to know if you give consultation online, I'm in Costa Rica (impossible to fly to the States for now, where I am assuming you are) but many of the topics you mention in your videos I know I need help with. Sadly, none of these are being covered in my pelvic floor/physio therapies... thanks a lot for sharing the content with all of us, and hope tp hear from you :)!!!

For years now, I have been dealing with "stomach issues." Mainly the fact that when "pooch" my stomach out, I can hear what sounds like liquid and air in my stomach. Sometimes there is so much "liquid and air" that it makes me a little nauseous. What could be the cause?

Would hear slushing called Succussion Splash. I would suggest seeing a Gastroenterologist to run some test or ask for more information about it.

    Here are some other reasons:
    1. Lactose intolerance, can make you feel bloated. Try taking lactase enzyme. You can find it at local pharmacy. I lost some inches from that.
    2. You have a gluten allergy, this can also make you bloated and add inches, consult with your doctor.
    3. That’s how your body naturally stores fat. No shame about it, many people have the same issue. Time to hit the gym.

I have had this before and been super lean everywhere else. If I train abs everyday my stomach looks so much different. I have been bodybuilding for a long time and I really do think training abs daily is one of these best things as blood flow to the area encourages the fat to go from there even though they say its global fat loss. I have actually done the experiment a few times not training abs on a cut and look bloated and podgy but the second I do just 100crunches daily the abs tighten up loads and I start to see veins in the abs.

I'm about to try this out but I don't think I'm fully understood how to....
Every diet I went through worked out on every area of my body but ab which makes me look a like ET from the movie.
I recalled why and when big belly happened is when I used to work as dental assistant that required slouchy posture position pretty much all day... so I started extreme diets to get rid off.
And I was told my ab is with not visceral fat, looks like a balloon with lots of air....
One distinctive symptom I gained along with big belly is chest pain while I sleep. my sleep position is back sleeping and the pain starts certain hours later.
It starts on back and goes to chest so can't sleep no longer. from the research I found out that is related with slouchy and sitting position.
