Biggest thing was learning to cook better and finding a happy medium with food. I still count calories every so often to check where I'm at, but man, I found I grossly underestimated what I was eating due to mindless snacking. Congrats again!

    These videos destroyed me, physically and mentally. I started doing these kinds of "diets". I know, it was a stupid thing to do, but anyway, I started it and ended up with an eating disorder that almost sent me to the hospital. I couldn't even close the car door due to muscle weakness. I'm better now but still, with everything I eat, I will always check the calories of a product or food I have on my plate. I also have this belief that I need to lose weight the whole time and that doesn't help me much psychologically. Please, if anyone wants to lose weight (and not their health), then you can see a nutritionist to make you a diet plan and to give you proper advice on whatever question you have, or you can start a healthy program for yourself, but for this, you will need either a proper diet or a way of exercising that suits you best.

    Thank you Dr. Mike for debunking these weight loss theories. They can be so harmful to people.
    Back in high school, during the mid 2000's, one of my best friends was anorexic and was always coming to school with articles from magazines that were filled with promises to lose fat quick.
    I watched one of my best friends go from a beautiful, outgoing girl to a shell of herself and it killed me that the only thing I could do was give her moral support. Especially when I found out that another one of our 'friends' was calling her fat and ugly when no one else was around.
    And despite everything she was going through, she was the first one to support when I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and even came to visit me in hospital.
    If only there were videos like this back then, maybe she would have been more open to seeing that these 'articles' weren't what they seemed to be.

    I think it’s really important when talking about “the pooch” that it’s often regarding women who have had children. Women have organs that men don’t have and we get our skin stretched out when carrying children, it’s not always realistic to “lose the pooch” because the pooch is simply their body changing due to carrying children.

    • @hudamn2297
      @hudamn2297 10 месяцев назад +62

      That "pooch" could also be from a weakened core / diastasis recti as a result of pregnancy. And in that case, it does need to be solved because a problematic core can cause other issues.

      It just wasn’t even touched on at all that it’s not always something that can be changed so that was the main reason for my comment. I have lost 50 pounds over the last three years, reaching within the realm of my ideal weight. I didn't do any fad diet, or hit the gym for hours a day. There are three aspects to my approach. I stop eating when I'm no longer hungry as opposed to eating until I'm full. I walk everywhere within "walking distance"; for me, that's about a half hour walk. The third aspect is that I convinced myself that I don't like ice cream and other sweets. So essentially, I cut my calories, and increased my activity. It's that simple.

Both are ok in moderation) in a blender with nothing else would be DISGUSTING. The pomegranate seeds and grapefruit pulp!? Not a drink, that’s a gross fibrous pudding.

    Great job for calling this out. What planet is this individual living on? I weighed 127 kg in 2012, 61.7 yesterday morning, and I am still not done (almost though). Losing weight takes major effort and, depending on how much there is to lose, takes a long time. I wish it were different, but it isn't. Reality is what the facts are, not what we wish it to be. Weight loss *is* possible for everyone, but we have to be willing to pay the price and listening to nonsense like this is going to discourage people, not encourage them. So, Doctor Mike, great job!

It's important to focus on health and well-being rather than chasing impossible standards. Also, the "no carbs" trend is super dangerous, especially for athletes-carbs are essential fuel. Diet culture unfairly demonizes all carbs, even though fiber and sugars are carbs too.

    About the cat and cow excersise, it actually does do something for me. I discovered this by accident while doing yoga, I noticed that everytime I did cat and cows I passed gas.
    Sometimes I bloat a lot, extremely uncomfortable, literally feels like I'm a *peewoop* ballon about to explode. So one of those occasions I decided to try the cats and cows and was shocked (and very relieved) that I actually passed some gas and the discomfort immediately lessened. It did not make it go away completely but at the very least I stopped feeling a bad turn away from exploding. So, my fellow bloated friends, next time you feel like you will pop try some cats and cows, might help ease the discomfort a little bit.
