    Good test of this machine! I brought one of these home today from the LHS, my first hobby grade RC. I had the idea of keeping it stock and upgrading it later on. I started seconding guessing myself after I found a smoking deal on the Granite 3S BLX online. The BLX has been ordered, so it looks like the Mega is going back. I was nervous about the Lipo batteries and the special handling they need, but some videos watched and questions answered by the folks at the shop have me feeling ok about using them.

    Nice video. I'm thinking about getting this or the Losi SCT. Can you please tell me the pros and cons of having a 4wd vs 2wd? The Losi is 2wd, but it comes with metal gear box and metal plates in the front and rear. This would be my first RC car for me and my 10 years old son. The price difference isn't that much ($189 for the Losi SCT vs $229 for this). Both can be upgraded to Brushless too and lipo compatible out of the box.
    Thank you so much for your time!

    • @PilotRyanMedia
      @PilotRyanMedia  3 года назад

      4wd is a little easier to control on the ground and in the air. Arrma has nice short course trucks as well.

    • @prismgames
      @prismgames 3 года назад

      I'd recommend going with the granite. It's a brilliant basher and super easy to control. It's basically unbreakable at brushed speeds

  • @squib3083
    @squib3083 Год назад

    The brushed mega has 48p gears and a plastic motor mount. To get it to a 3s blx is at least $200 for the Arrma upgrade parts kit. I learned this the hard way buying a mega for my son then immediately dumping $$ to get it to blx status. The brushless version is really the far better value.

I know very little about the hobby but from what I've read this seems to be a good first truck which I will be buying for my sons upcoming 8th birthday (which will be my introduction to the hobby as well @ 40 years old :)). I subscribed to your channel, as I see I have a lot to learn :)
    A couple questions:
    Being that my son is still little, I think I will stay with Nimh for now. Do you know how long the stock battery lasts? Regardless, I would by a spare Nimh as well. Can you recommend a battery that would work for this? I don't know if something larger than 3300mAh would work in this truck, but I'd like to get something with the best battery life I can without having to modify anything on the truck, while staying with Nimh.

      Horizon was great about it and sent me a free replacement within a couple of days. Awesome customer service and it was a really easy swap.

      So, just to further point out how great Horizon customer service is... I ended up burning through another servo. The plastic gears just don’t hold up in the monster truck version of this setup. My friend has a Senton and doesn’t have the same issues. Horizon actually send me an upgraded 10kg metal gear servo as a replacement free of charge this time. I’ve really been blown away by their product support so far.

If you run it in nimih mode you would just have to be careful.whats the amp rating on it an what turn motor is it.ive used 3s on stock rustler brush esc.and 12t titan.10 minutes is all you wanna do it will eventually wear the brushes out pretty quick an lots of heat draw.

      First run I hit a small ledge of concrete and it stripped the plastic gear enough to where it wouldn't move. Pain to get to it and tighten the gap but now it's still running strong. Great 4x4 for 70$ cheaper then the name brand 4x4. After a week of bashing and jumping its held up great
