The term hidden gem is appropriate sometimes. A great example is Spec ops: The line on 360, PC and PS3. For the time it came out (2012 IIRC), you'd be well forgiven for seeing it on the shelf and not giving it much thought (or a googling). After all, at first glance, i'll wager many figured its just some Ghost Recon/COD/Army of two like action game. General name of the game itself, general-looking third person action based on the pics and blurb on the back of the box (if you even got that far) - I would imagine most who saw it on the shelves thought nothing of it really. In fact, we know this based on the sales. But its a beaut of a game though - Great, thought-provoking story in a decent third person action game set in Dubai with fabulous sound design and so-so multiplayer tacked on (consider it a single player only). A REAL gem - hidden in plain sight.

Mickey's Speedway USA is always going to be a "hidden gem" to me because I found it at a garbage dump, frozen in ice. Was pretty happy after I chipped it out, defrosted it and cleaned it that it worked!

That logo is so damn nostalgic to me. I remember baby sitting for family members and when they’d force me to take a fiver for payment I’d always go to the corner shop and pick up that magazine and a chocolate bar. Good times. It’d read the articles at least twice and all the stuff from the staff and dream about doing the kind of work they did. I’m 35 now and I make games instead for a living. Went to uni and even had the honor of having Rares David Doak as a teacher. Games are so amazing.

I think its kind of silly to say hidden gems can't exist because the internet exists. If anything the mountains of information can make it even harder to find things. Finding n64 games in particular can be tricky as you'll see the same 10 games on every single list no matter what. Your channel has introduced me to so many n64 games I had no memory of as a kid of the 90s.

I love Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth and Worms Armageddon. I've been playing Star Soldier since the NES and Turbografx games were new, so the N64 game was on my radar from the get-go. I don't know how anyone could dislike Worms if they have friends to play with, even though I've had plenty of fun on my own there as well.
The N64 game that gets no love that I enjoyed a bit was Knife Edge. It was a simple enough rail shooter akin to Burning Soldier on 3DO, but was brisk enough to play through in a sitting when you feel like something arcade-y.

There are a couple N64 titles that I love and don’t see people talking about:
-War Gods: essentially mortal kombat 4 “beta”, but with more creative freedom from the developers. My favorite 3D fighter in the system
-Automobili Lamborghini: great car selection (not sure how licensed the non-Lamborghini models are), track design with shortcuts and alternative paths, amazing graphics for the era, catchy soundtrack and a 4-player multiplayer mode… what’s not to like?

For me for N64 games it has to be Mace: The Dark Age. I was a fan of Mortal Kombat and I think Mace actually is a better representation of what Mortal Kombat should have in 3D tha MK4 was as I always found that game to not only look average at best but the speed of the animations put me off, it looked like they just bumped the speed of the animations up to make the game faster rather than animating things better. Plus I love the character and stage designs in Mace way more and it is arguably the best looking fighter on the system by some margin.

I really liked Mickey's Speedway, but I do wish it had a little bit more of that old school Rare magic. I loved the Duckburg-esque art style of the buildings and everything though, and all the duck characters so I really did have a soft spot for it even with its flaws.
I liked Star Soldier but I thought it was just okay. Not great, but not bad either. I wish we'd gotten Sin & Punishment too though...

There are many good 3rd party N64 games that people didn't play because at the time shops didn't have a big selection of games and buying import games in 1990's was hard. If you didn't have a CEX nearby you had to go dodgy shops. My picks are also Star Soldier, plus Dezaemon 3D, Cruis'n World, NJPW Toukon Road 2 (Wrestling), Sin & Punishment & Konami's Summer Games.

For the games I love but no one talks about.
    GBA - Konami Krazy Racers
    PlayStation - Future Cop LAPD
    N64 - Snowboard Kids 2
    Master System - Batman Returns
SNES - Goof Troop! Seriously hard for anyone to sit down and play it co op as they always think I'm joking! Managed it once ever and it was super fun 👍
Only just recently stumbled across your channel and I'm glad I did. Happy to see someone loves Diddy Kong Racing as much as I do. Got it Xmas 1998. Just last week I beat Whizz Pig for the first time ever. Need to unlock TT for completion......
Then I saw 'Adventure 2' and my mind exploded! The game is twice the size I thought it was!!!

I'm surprised the company updated the game in 2020 It's always so cool to see a game company support their work even after 20 + years later not even modern gaming companies do that 100 %. Cool video. ^_^

Vigilante 8 on the Nintendo 64 I feel is one of those rarely spoken of games on the console. Honestly it's so much fun to play thanks to having dozens of cheat codes! You can try the game in 'ultra HD' mode or unlock all the stages and cars, including a flying saucer. There's even an exclusive, super cutesty Nintendo level that's in stark contrast to all the vehicular mayhem happening on screen.

While it was not as fast nor perfect as arcade -version, i really do like California Speed on N64. The track desing is just right for my taste and game doesn't ever get boring as there is no laps, -just racing from start to finish.
I wish more racing games would be like California Speed or Hydro Thunder.
As that type of desing allows stunning "events" to happen during racing.
Hopefully Cruis'n Blast will sell well and then may be more of these wild racing games will eventually be available.
