  • 20 years ago (today), The Phantom Menace delighted younger audiences and aggravated long-time fans. The following films in the trilogy shared a similar fate. As someone who saw these films as a kid and has since then grown up, what are my thoughts on them?

Alright so, RUclips pulled a weird. I started uploading this video well past midnight and, as I am waiting for it to process, it is currently 1:15 AM. Despite this, the date is listed as "Uploaded on May 18th" instead of May 19th. Not a big deal, but annoying when considering I was holding off uploading this until May 19th given that was the release date of all of the Prequels (which is appropriate considering that's the subject of the video).

Thank u for creating a great video, I love the honesty, I love the prequels, they aren't ya know, the best, but, they r fun to watch, and honestly, I can say this, episode 3 was the best of the prequels, and I ended up crying seeing Anakin turn, him ending up killing Padme himself when during the entire film he was trying to prevent it, that was the kickerkicker, that final battle, Yoda, the battle with dooku, so fricking good! 😃

The politics is what makes this film and the prequels so fascinating. I am sorry if their were not enough death stars blowing up planets and instead we had to see a villain raise to power using his intelligence/charisma/manipulation. The prequels are an amazing story and tbh a vastly more complex and interesting story than anything else mainstream star wars has released

I have a bit of a "redemption arc" story when it comes to the prequels. I was 8 when TPM came out, 11 for AotC, and 14 for RotS. I loved all of them immediately and enjoyed watching them from time to time throughout my teens.
Then the Plinkett reviews came out. I thought they were hilarious and made many good points and observations, and pretty soon I found myself squarely in the camp of prequel haters, despising them for "not living up to the OT". I've never made any Star Wars videos but left many comments for years afterward bashing the prequels and sometimes their fans as well. Many of them are probably still there.
When the sequels were announced I was delighted that we might finally get "good Star Wars" again without George Lucas. As the sequels came out I actually enjoyed each one, but was shocked by the amount of hate and backlash they were getting. Hypocritical? Yes, although I completely missed the worst of the original prequel backlash when the actors themselves were being harassed among other things. Seeing that happen with the sequels, despite my own issues with them, made my stomach churn. This wasn't just a bunch of disappointed fans making fun of movies many years after they had been released, it was extremely personal, toxic, and just plain unpleasant from top to bottom.
My feelings toward the prequels remained largely the same, but I became much more quiet about them. After TRoS came out and I still found myself having fun with it, despite backtracking on many of the things I liked the most about TLJ, and saw the TLJ hate mob roaring back into high gear, I largely stopped giving a shit about the Star Wars fandom and especially the OT purists and what "they wanted", as they were ultimately responsible in my opinion for forcing Disney to sink their trilogy in the third act attempting to appease those same whiny manbabies.
Being sick and tired of the fandom's "opinions" about pretty much anything I began to consider taking another, more objective look at the prequels in 2020. Prompted by a random RUclips comment on a random video which went something like "I wish more people would realize that while the prequels have problems, there's more to love about them than there is to hate.", I decided to watch the prequels again for the first time in almost a decade on June 17th last year. It didn't take long for me to begin remembering why I used to enjoy them in my younger years, or to realize that their "problems" barely even register with me when actually viewing them as movies instead of clips in a million different RUclips reviews tearing them apart.
It was the biggest turning point of my life as a Star Wars fan. I didn't just accept the prequels again, I loved them. I love all Star Wars movies now, even my least favorite of them all, The Force Awakens. While I can still rant with my friends about what I find frustrating about the sequels, I refuse to ever join another entitled Star Wars hate mob ever again. I've even finally started watching the cartoons and found myself loving them, too, along with a great many prequel-era video games that I haven't played in ages. In my opinion nowadays, the only "true Star Wars fans" are the ones who give every movie and every storyteller a fair chance without holding them to your opinions about "what should have been done".
I'd like to say, after being an obnoxious prequel-basher for a full decade, I apologize to all of the prequel fans who have had to put up with the kind of garbage we've been dumping on your lawns for so long, all the entitled nonsense, all the phony critiques. I was only a tiny part of that for maybe 10 years, but I'm one of you now. I'm a prequel fan again. And regardless of my own issues with the sequels, I hope that the fans who are growing up loving them now aren't giving up on them in the face of the toxic, hostile, unworthy side of our fandom. Watch what you like, love what you enjoy. Don't let anyone ever tell you which films you're allowed to like.

@@TC-tl8ie Sorry for only seeing your reply just now. I guess my "stance" on the Plinkett reviews has to be that while I still find them and RLM entertaining (I actually own the melted Phantom Menace VHS tape from their RotS review) I don't really consider them fair critiques in retrospect. I always knew that a bunch of the complaints leveled in those videos were nonsense and perhaps not even meant to be taken entirely seriously, but overall they accuse the prequels of not following some kind of rulebook that doesn't exist and don't give any actual effort to try to see what George Lucas was going for.
I still like the OT more than the PT myself and almost definitely always will. I just don't think the fan backlash was fair or reasonable and certainly wasn't deserved. I got caught up in the hype of the Plinkett reviews and was so far removed from the original backlash (which I wasn't even aware existed prior to that point) that I didn't realize just how far some fans were taking things beyond making RUclips videos about it.

Well "Plinkett" does give some objective reasons why they're not well made, if not in a sympathetic and definitely overdone way. I think some people confuse that with enjoyment of a movie. If they enjoy a movie then it must be objectively good. The prequels are certainly not objectively well told stories but a lot of it is enjoyable. Except for Episode 2, that is mostly ruined for me by cringe factor, but that's a personal opinion. We're allowed to enjoy "bad" movies, why not?! And we're allowed to find artistically well made movies boring. We're not film makers. I don't agree that people simply hate these movies because RLM told them, that's nonsense. Maybe you'd enjoy The Unusual Suspects review of the prequels. A guy who legit enjoys the movies despite making fun of their flaws. I feel heard when I watch him😆

However, the basic outline of points that he, with a degree in film, bring up are pretty much unobjectionable. Almost all of the characters are dumb and make senseless decisions that only work out of pure luck, the dialogue in all 3 is awful, none of the villains are worth a shit without previous exposure to them. Jar Jar is literally the only character in The Phantom Menace with an arc that he had any real agency in. Anakin's downward arc between episode 2 and 3 is laughably bad and makes Darth Vader the biggest idiot in the galaxy.

I will give Hayden Christensen this, when he's not forced to talk he actually does a good job as Anakin and especially Darth Vader. Like in the scene after his mother dies, Christiensen manages to capture all the fear, confusion, sadness, and eventually, anger that comes with the knowledge to sand people for no reason not only killed his mother but tortured her for no reason other than to see how long she can survive. And as Darth Vader, he actually manages to command an intimidating and threatening presence like on Mustafar during the duel.

I´ve been an Episode III hardcore defender always, and I hate when its get flak because of the previous two by assimilation. There's so many points you touch that are spot on, nostalgic grown-ups being let down with the PT, the overall arc of the PT being great, the need for politic scenes, etc. ROTS is imo at the level of Star Wars and ESB btw. Can't wait to see your ST retrospective, but by the looks of that ending, I think you are on the same side as me.

True, but there's admittedly still a lot of ROTS that's pretty goofy, even if they improved many things and it's the most watchable. That "love dialogue" on the balcony makes me feel ill. Ewan McGregor saying "killing younglings" makes me sad because he's usually a good actor. The light sabre fight between Yoda and the Emperor is just wrong. But Ep 2 is my personal bottom of the barrel, I'll happily watch TPM before I watch that again. But that's a personal opinion.

I don't care what anyone says - I love all the prequels. Folks can nitpick all they want, but the same can easily be done with the original trilogy, so I don't bother. My favorite prequel film is Attack of the Clones, mainly because I'm a hopeless romantic. Anakin and Padme's romance may not be rational by most people's standards, but Lucas purposely crafted it to be more like Shakespeare, and less cynical or distrusting.

RUclips already has. They find this stuff while you're uploading it. The first one I had a lot of trouble uploading as a result. This one I did test uploads to get an idea of where the offending bits were before officially uploading it. Both this and the first one have copyright claims, but not strikes. The only effect this has on me is that these videos can't be monetized but considering I barely make anything off of RUclips, I'm more concerned with people actually being able to watch the video.

WHOOPS ! I already commented this video two years ago ^o^’’, sorry Luna !
Loved this video as well. I remember not liking JarJar at all the first time I saw Episode 1 (and I was already around seventeen / eighteen so it didn’t help) but I still enjoyed the movie. It is amazing how many people have tried to force others to think that the Prequels are horrendous and you shouldn’t even try to like it…
Felt especially quite alone when I realised that I enjoyed Episode II and III.
Also, I don’t get how people could watch the Red Letter Media 8 hour review when just two minutes of it is unbearable.
IIRC, Linkara did call on their bullshit when he reviewed the comic books based on the movies, and especially said that nobody ever noticed the blatant racism against Jar Jar’s actor (I guess angry ‘’fanboys’’ draw the line elsewhere).

I saw the prequels as a young adult. E1 was a mixed bag. I love parts and hated parts. Clone War was so bad I wondered if the original three were an accident. Revenge of the Sith maybe my favorite movie in the series to this day. It's at very easily as good as my childhood favorite Return of the Jedi and my teenaged favorite of Empire. Prequels were never universally bad just a mixed bag that disappointed alot of people.

Honestly the sequels aren’t bad movies. I’d accept them but only if they were non canon or set in another universe or timeline. Honestly if in the beginning Disney said that this is an alternate timeline Star Wars universe I think it’s reception would’ve been much better and more universal.
My personal big issue with the sequels, especially when comparing them to the originals and prequel‘s are-
    1) the downgraded fight scenes (not to mention the lack there-of), after ‘revenge of the sith’ the bar for lightsaber battle quality and fights was set very high 🤷🏾‍♂️. Lucas, his team and those actors NAILED the fights.I get the sequels is set in a time where force users are severely undertrained compared to the prequels but guarantee George woulda set up some AMAZING-MEMORABLE FIGHTS.
1.5) Lack of use of the force. I get reys new to the force but damn I came to see Star Wars show me Jedi/sith/force users using the force in bad ass ways many times. I didn’t come to see talking.
    2) The lack of feel of continuity from the last two trilogies. It’s a family story and I didn’t feel connected to or engaged with a Skywalker at all, Rey or Kylo. Nor did I feel their story was a continuation upon the story of the Skywalkers. It felt like the sequels tried to erase the prequels, even if that was not it’s intent, and go it’s own way from the originals.
    3) The VISUALS. George really had CREATIVE and CAPTIVATING scenery, worlds, cities, space/spaceships. It always felt huge, somehow real and thriving and beautiful. His practical effect and cgi people were so far ahead of their time! The cgi and practical effects in ‘revenge of the sith’ still hold up to this day.
    4) George didn’t make it. Plain and simple. I want to see GEORGE’S STORY! Imagine if J. K. Rowling didn’t write the last harry potter book and let Disney make up their own ending or the writer of ‘Game of Thrones’? The original author is the only one who can truly satisfyingly explain and express their story world period.
    4) The music. I found none of it memorable or iconic at all...this is a Star Wars movie. Your supposed to leave remembering the music in it for life. (Not to mentioned it’s generated almost no memes from its dialogue? What kind of a Star Wars movie doesn’t have a ton of meme-able cool scenes and lines?)
    6) The overwhelming lack of world building :/. Heck George was gonna jump right into explaining what the force was and the ‘Whills’ in his version of the sequels :,(. And if you watch the clone wars TV show with the episode with the whills you would’ve seen that George was going to create something very visually trippy creative and beautiful.
Disney tried, I’m sure they didn’t mean to mess up. But they should have know what precious material they were holding the future of. I’m only 27 so I wasn’t really part of the generation that bashed the prequels but It’s our fault though, we drove George to sell it and now we are paying for it and may never see a true ending or continuation of the story from the actual author.
The sequels are a trilogy of “ok”, “what-if“ movies that are fun, with laser swords, the magic ‘force’, and similarities to Star Wars but they are NOT ‘Star Wars’.

I should say something good about the sequels. Umm Okay compliment sandwich, something good something good umm 🤔....Reys kinda hot...actually liked Kylo Ren a little...in general the actors/acting weren’t bad...”fight scene” between Luke and Kylo at the end of the last Jedi is okay, the fight scene between snokes guards and Rey and Kylo is meh okay....Kylo Ren has like maybe two good meme-able quotes (“what..girl?”...”The droid...stole a freighter?”), Kylo Rens lightsaber is cool..though also stupid...leia’s scene where she uses the force to pull herself from space was genuinely cool I mean she is a child of the chosen one...that’s really all I can think of...*sigh

Although my enjoyment of them is more on the level of "hey, this was a pretty good case against these movies, I liked the dark humor here, all good" rather than "HOLY SHIT THESE REVIEWS CHANGED MY PERCEPTION ON THE MOVIES", so I'm open to see what all he got wrong about them
About your video at hand, as someone who generally doesn't find the prequels that good (though I do love 1 and 3 for personal nostalgic reasons), this was an interesting watch. Only thing I'd argue is the intergalactic space politics thing. I feel like the problem with the prequels wasn't so much that they were there, more so related to pacing. Sure they were there in the originals, but they were mostly kept to a minimum and the main focus was on the actual character motivations and conflicts, whereas something like Phantom Menace had its entire 3rd quarter dedicated to an exposition dump about it without much going on in that time. It's been a long time since I saw that movie but I usually remember skipping that part of the movie whenever I'd watch. I'm sure there's other examples of this in the other prequels (namely 2) but it's been ages since I last saw them, I'd have to rewatch them to confirm my point there

@@lunamorley so ik it's a bit of a late reply, but I finally got some time to finish the PDF. I want to watch TPM again before developing a more elaborate opinion on it, but reading it alongside watching the Plinkett review did at least open my eyes to some things faulty about it. Personally I can understand both sides of the coin somewhat, but I feel like Plinkett overcomplicated the story a bit much when it didn't come across as too complicated all the times I saw it.
Thinking about it a little further I've noticed a certain demographic he falls under, in that he mostly likes far more character-centric movies and doesn't care too much to know about things like lore or how the universe works (at least, if talk about other movies from him is anything to go by). Absolutely nothing wrong with that at all, the OG trilogy is your cup of tea if you're like that and I'd never argue a film shouldn't strive for both (and of course I think TPM could've benefitted from a good balance), but there is a general lack of care or desire to understand these movies on his part, which could be the source of some inevitable lapses in reasoning and perceived faulty methodology. That's personally why I'd never use the reviews as a showcase for what's wrong with the movies
Lastly, my biggest problem with the PDF has to be Raynor's attitude throughout. While not as loud as the PT haters by any means, it does paint a very dominant and aggressive tone throughout, as if he's forcing his own opinion on the video down people's throats much like the PT haters would. I understand where it comes from but lines like "a study in fanboy stupidity" or "shame on you if you think this review is good" really just don't do it for me and I feel he could've made his point without all that. And of course I like old RLM comedy so I didn't agree with all the complaints about that. But even that aside I do think the arguments are at least worth hearing for a different perspective, and for me personally, should be separate from the person making them

I disagree that people only complain about AOTC, whether they know it or not. It's definitely the worst, I agree, but I remember exiting the theatre after watching the Phantom Menace, legit not having enjoyed it much and the awkward silence of the group, stunned by the cognitive dissonance of having wanted to enjoy a movie but being bored a lot of the time. I enjoy it much more on DVD and knowing what to expect, even enjoying the goofy bits more now. But at the time it was disappointing. And I didn't even hate Jar Jar or Jake Lloyd as much as most people. You were probably too young to have seen it on the big screen I guess.

  • @mikechris6208

Attack of the Clones is an amazing movie.
-Stop ripping into the dialogue. Why would Anakin's dialogue not be awkward... he was raised a slave and has had his emotions suppressed by the Jedi ever since. It actually makes complete sense in the larger story for him to be a social outcast. Also, if you watch it like a Space Opera, as it is supposed to be watched, the dialogue makes complete sense. A huge issue I have is that people attack the dialogue because it doesn't sound natural. Have you ever watched a play? Shakespeare? This is what the prequels drew inspiration from. Also, Anakin not liking sand is comparing his upbringing as a slave on a sand planet (Tatooine) to that of royalty (Padme) of one of the wealthiest planets in the galaxy. Remember, Anakin first met Padme when he was a slave and she was a Queen!
-Also, Palpatine orchestrated the assassination attempt on Padme. Not Dooku. Obviously Dooku was his apprentice, but the motivation behind the assassination attempt was an attempt to remove the opposition to the creation of a republic army and heighten the crisis between the republic and the separatists. REMEMBER, THE PREQUELS IS ABOUT PALPATINE MANUFACTURING CRISES TO HIGHLIGHT SHORTCOMINGS IN THE SENATE AND MANIPULATING THE FEARS OF THOSE IN THE SENATE TO AWARD HIM MORE POWER. Palpatine takes control of the senate all within plane sight by being cunning, patient and charismatic. He does this all while orchestrating crises to distract the Jedi and those who would oppose him until he has enough power to make himself Emperor. IMHO, much more interesting than the bad guys building a bunch of super weapons over and over again.
-AOTC also really highlights the shortcomings of the Jedi. It was initially hinted at in TPM, but in AOTC it really hits home how arrogant and detached the Jedi Order are. Think of the prequels like A FLAWED RELIGION INHERITS THEIR MESSIAH, BUT THROUGH THEIR OWN ARROGANCE HAND HIM OVER TO THE DEVIL. AOTC clearly outlines the flaws in the Jedi Code and how the Jedi have lost touch with the force. It also highlights how much of a social outcast Anakin is, and how little the Jedi care for people that Anakin cares for (IE his mother). In fact, AOTC really highlights how unprepared Obi Wan was to be anakin's master. This movie smartly shows Anakin look towards Palpatine as more of a father figure than Obi Wan. The scene when Anakin finds his mother and slaughters the tuskin raiders is one of the best acted and best overall scenes in all of star wars. It also shows how much Anakin is slowly turning towards the dark side as he knows he could never tell a Jedi about what happened with the Tuskin Raiders as he would be expelled, but he deep down feels justified in what he did.
-In the end of the day, IF YOU CAN LOOK PAST SOME CHEESY DIALOUGUE (WHICH ALSO EXSISTS IN THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY BTW) AND SOME CGI (SOME OF WHICH IS INCREDIBLE AND HELPS WITH THE WORLD BUILDING) YOU CAN SEE AN AMAZING SHAKESPEAREAN TRAGEDY IN THE MAKING. But if not, your loss!

While I disagree with some of the criticisms here, I'm glad you're fair minded about how overblown the backlash is. The anger is disproportional. I recognize flaws in all the Star Wars movies, even thought I love 1-6 unironically. But the sheer amount of childish vitriol and mindless repetition is frustrating. Sure I dislike the sequel trilogy. I really don't like them. But they have things to enjoy, and I respect the fans (except Reylos). They got something out of it, they enjoy the style, I just hated the style and wasn't able to connect and suspend by disbelief. Movie taste is subjective, and the Star Wars fandom has been toxic for decades. The past 25 years have been nonstop frothing anger, thanks to the Internet feedback loop. The attacks on Kelly Tran and Ahmed Best have really shown that Star Wars fans have gone out of control. It's a fandom without check. Even places claiming to be safe for discussion usually devolve into attacks on either trilogy.

I was in college in 1999, the backlash was immediate. It’s Prequel lovers that want to rewrite history and say the Prequels were loved and then the hate came years later in 2010 or something. No, it split fans into bashers and gushers right away. Nobody expected Anakin to be a little kid, going back to Tattooine, Jar Jar, and all kinds of other stupid shit. It didn’t feel like a galaxy far, far away, characters spoke like people from American malls in the late 90s/early 2000s, and the movies were too much about “looking kewl”. I think with Prequel fans born in 1993 or the mid-late 90s/2000s or whenever you younger Millennials/Gen Z people were born, you guys only knew your childhood peers who loved those movies like you did in 1999-2005, and maybey you weren't old enough to understand the hate the Prequels had until like 2009 or something, so you think the hate just happened one day, when that's not the case at all. The movies split the fanbase immediately in 1999. But I will say this, I’m not 18 anymore, so I grew up and well if a new generation grew up with Prequels and loves them, good for you guys. It doesn’t change my opinion or any of us OT fans, but we’re happy for you guys. It was fun making fun of Prequel fans when I was 18, 20….though it was different making fun of another 16-25 year old guy that actually with all seriousness thinks Jar Jar Binks, little kid Anakin and stupid coincidences are a great idea back then.....but if some kid that grew up with them as 2 year olds in 2000……whatever. Good for you guys. Now some of you guys understand what we went through when you deal with the Sequels and Sequel fans, The Sequels being shitty doesn’t make the Prequels better, they are just shitty in a different way, The Prequels have a really good germ of an idea in them, and George Lucas involved, it’s the execution that was terrible. The Sequels are very Disney Hollywood studio corporate, very fan fiction.

I quite like Attack of the Clones. I haven't seen it since about Christmas 2018, but remember enjoying it despite the awkward lines between Padme and Anakin. I always figured, maybe that was kinda the point, as this both of the character's first relationship, as Padme has served in the senate for the majority of her life at this point, and Anakin has been a jedi for his (except Filoni Clone Wars contradicts that with Padme's Separatist boyfriend...) still could've been acted better though. My favorite parts were Anakin's steps towards the dark side, he easily remains my favorite character in the entire saga. Also Jango fett is cool.
Phantom Menace is great, flawed yeah, but that's alright
But Revenge of the Sith is fantastic, easily my favorite movie in the series.
The prequels are for sure my favorite trilogy.
Also worth noting, politics were even heavily featured in the (now legends) Star Wars books. Even the pre Phantom Menace ones that were released in the 90s, like the Thrawn Trilogy for instance.

They showed who A LOT of this fan base really are, or at least what the leadership within this fandom was, and how ugly it was choosing to be. as a woman- I HATED what they did to Padmé in RoTS to the point I can't really enjoy it. She was tossed aside because she got knocked-up so her only purpose was to give birth and die...of a broken heart??? Give me a break!!! She lost her will to live, after giving birth to two newborn children that needed their mother more than that stupid idiot of a husband ever could? I can't even! Sorry, but this makes me so angry even after all these years. I read there was a script where she actively tried to kill Anakin after she learns what he did- that would've been so much better! Or let her die from the injuries Anakin gave her...not of a "broken" heart. I recognize this could happen in RL, but Padmé supposed to be that strong independent woman- not someone who lived only for the love of her partner.

She was meant to have a much more prominent role in ROTS. They filmed an entire subplot where she would have helped form the early Rebel Alliance with Mon Mothma and other senators to oppose Palpatine.
However, it was cut for time and potentially in part for the backlash to the previous political scenes in the prequels.
I personally am a bit divided over Padme's role in ROTS -its one of the few potential criticisms I have of the film.
On the one hand, I would have liked to have seen that subplot where she helps form the alliance as it would have been truly poetic. She helps form the Rebels, Anakin helps form the Empire. The two lovers are responsible for molding the conflict in the OT.
There was also that original idea they had which you mentioned about where she tries to kill Anakin. However, I think I read that in the planned sequence that she would have been unable to do it as she realized she still loved him.
On the other hand though, I don't think too much was lost with her character. TPM and AOTC had already established her as a strong character who could hold her own. Plus, she was pregnant and I suppose that limited what she could potentially do in the plot (in that her pregnancy would be suspiciously evident in the political scenes)
      :)

I think most of your points against The Plinkett Reviews are kinda hypocritical and target a strawman version of those reviews. You claim haters of the prequels are nostalgia-influenced, yet you clearly link your enjoyment of the prequels to your initial childhood experiences of watching them and you sound genuinely angered by the Plinkett reviews’ legitimate critiques against the films of your childhood. I think alot of the emerging love for the prequels is fuelled by people for whom they are childhood memories, Gen Z, which I am part of, has matured to the point where we can have nostalgia for these films.
The prequels are indeed a fusion of somewhat mindless action and dull political scenes. These two are clearly aimed at different audiences and don’t flow well together in my opinion.
The inclusion of politics in A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back weren’t intruding on the actual core story as it does in the prequels. And I don’t think anyone was triggered by you mentioning Lando’s mining operation in “precious Empire”, its a tiny piece of information that isn’t too essential but I always understood its part in the story as a child. Whereas I never understood the plots of Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones and I still struggle with them now. Contrast this with the simple “human” stories of the original trilogy. I think everyone is up for nuance and moral grey areas in Star Wars but people who hate the Prequels just believe Lucas did it wrong.
Everyone expected the fall of the Republic and rise of the Empire to be shown but its communicated in a very boring way. Time flies when you’re having fun they say. Maybe that’s why people think there is more politics in the prequels than there actually is.
To conclude, I grew up with both trilogies and always preferred the Originals, never really liked the prequels. Maybe it’s to do with the tactile quality of shooting with actual film that I preferred them, but I know Menace was shot partially with film and it still feels textureless to me.
Watched Revenge Of The Sith recently to see if my opinions were wrong, it’s probably the best out of the prequels but it still doesn’t rise above guilty pleasure for me. The “seduction of Anakin by the darkside of the force” is very stupid to me, he was just tricked by Palpatine. “Only through me can you save Padme’s life” “I know together we can discover the secret” But I know this was brought up in the Plinkett reviews so you probsbly don’t want to hear this. None of the twists impact me in the film, you would have to be stupid not to see through Palpatine’s act, hence frustration with the films. The action is generally better than the originals but thats more a by-product of the technology available and the time they were made in, and like the rest of the movie it is textureless and leaves less impact because I don’t care about the characters.
Prequel fanboys and haters are both hypocrites in most of their critiques of the other camp.
