13:10 Now that is an amazing way of sending off a *normal* flight, let alone a special one! A salute, then a bow for their service, then a continuous wave not only for the pilots but also the passengers! You can even see the passengers waving back! Simply epic!

Such a great paint scheme of the Ansett 747 celebrating the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
There was such a lovely variety of aircraft and sounds back then.
The variation in air-frames was unprecedented. Engine sounds meant something. Transit thru airports was part of the traveling experience!

Thank you very much for uploading this. The year 1998 is when I was born and have been using Kansai airport every year. Particularly, I used to fly on JAL fleet of B747 from this airport. You remind me of all of good memories.

Why did that Ansett Australia livery look like Singapore Airlines’
Because SIA leased the aircraft to Ansett Australia. You can see that the aircraft kept the original registration, '9V-SMT' at 1:24.
Deity Rukasu 9V-SMT is now A350 for SIA

air new zealand had a similar livery on their 777 200 they leased from singapore airlines

Love so many 747s.
Watching all of these videos from the late 90s and early 2000s makes me miss the 747 even more as this was before the 777-300ER was introduced and soon to replace most 747s.
I remember flying into Kansai Airport that year. It wasn't too long before ORD-KIX direct flights disappeared, too expensive to fly in there. ORD-Chubu Airport flights were only around as long as the Expo was in Nagoya. Took one of those flights, too.
MD-11, 747, 747, MD-11, rinse and repeat. Good times.

American Airlines MD11 (DC10) in Silver livery always makes me think of Flight 191

Aww! I remember Northwest... and I still just love those - what are they, MD series jets? - with the two rear-mounted engines; they take off like little rockets!
Yes the DC-9s and their derivatives, especially the MD 80. Incidentally, last week was a sad one for them because American Airlines, their largest operator, finally retired their last remaining ones. Delta will as well over the next years. they are already a rare sights nowadays. 😞

The Ansett Australia 747-400 at 1:14 has been scrapped. This was the 747 involved in the SQ286 tailstrike accident
The JAA 747-300 at 2:28 is in storage. It is owned by Transaero as VP-BGX
The JAL DC-10 at 2:41 is in storage. It is owned by the Wilmington Trust Company as N855VV
The China Eastern MD-11 at 3:09 still flies with Sky Lease Cargo as N950AR
The JAL DC-10 at 4:46 is in storage. It is owned by Omega Air as N286VV
The UPS 747-100 at 5:18 has been scrapped
The JAS MD-87 at 5:51 still flies with Montavachi Limited as M-SFAM
The ANA 747-400D at 6:09 has been scrapped
The JTA 737-400 at 6:37 is in storage. It is owned by Pearl LLC as N263LM
The JAL 747-200 at 7:00 has been scrapped

The Vietnam Airlines 767-300 at 15:04 still flies with Atlas Air as N645GT (it is one of their passenger charters)

The JAS A300 at 16:25 was converted to a freighter and still flies with DHL as D-AEAL
The JAL 747-200 at 17:12 is in storage. It is owned by Kalitta Air is N705CK

How does one tell the difference between the DC-10 and MD-11? They look pretty much the same.

David Fung Eh. Winglets could have been installed later for the DC-10.
DC-10 does not have winglets.
MD-11 is longer and has winglets.
It's that easy
And it is written on the plane what it is.

Malaysia B772 at 15:45 is a similar aircraft to those of flights MH370 and MH17
