This song ... is like one of those neck-rubs you get at the end of a really stressful day. It takes away the knotted up tension and leaves you with resolute clarity to face one more soul-grinding existence in the real world.

A beautiful song with so many different great versions. Rivers (a Capella), Rivers (FT Apocalyptica), two other you should watch when you have the time.
And when your lead singer is a L'Oreal spokesmodel, This band is blessed and apparently charged with shining a light of joy in the darkness when so much of the world needs it.
I had the immense pleasure of seeing them perform this song live in Manchester two months ago. Such a talented band.
EPICA has beautiful ballads. This is from the most recent album Omega. You are right, they don't have a bad song.
Whether you react , or just watch on your own, there are 2 other versions of this song to check out. At the Omega Alive virtual show, Simone and a choir sang it acapella. And at AFAS in the Netherlands, featuring Apocalyptica's 3 cello players.
Did I not say, their ballads are pure beauty?
And there are MANY versions of this song, and each one is equally amazing.

Their videographer Jens is the best. This one shot done in recent tour of South America. Simone is so trained, absolute perfect pitch, her and Tommy Karevick have the most perfect pitch in metal. Her performance of Rivers with the great Apocalyptica in their most recent tour is amazing also, but her performance singing with Apocalyptica performing their song Rise Again Simone is on full power range…just amazing and so emotion producing. I have just member subscribed to your channel Jynger…great work. Epica is truly at their best and so amazing after 20 years at it. Smoon (affectionate name for Simone), is a Siren of the vocal discipline and sonic beauty…and a gorg woman for sure, and so are you Jynger 😉😊

Harvest, then Rivers... Two songs amazing, emotional songs in one week! Epica recently released an album of collabs with other artists. One of the songs from that album is Sirens - of Blood and Water, featuring Charlotte Wessels and Myrkur. That one is just as powerful, in a different way. And if you like a little sax with your metal, watch The Final Lullaby, featuring Shining. No bad songs.
Beautiful but still not in my top 3 Epica ballads. 🙂Wait till you hear "Tides of Time" or "Trois Vierges" or "Safeguard to Paradise" (no one reacts to the last one). And yes, Simone is a beautiful human being, or maybe not a human after all. She is a goddess. 🙃
Tides of Time and Canvas of Life are my favorite Epica ballads.

The only thing that could make this even more beautiful are three cello's.
I think this song has been played in my car every day for the last week. And since the weather has been beautiful in Michigan lately, more than a handful of people have got an earful of lovely Simone whenever I'm at a red light and the windows are down. 😆
The latest video of Rivers live with Apocalyptica at the AFAS is 10 times better.

A stunning song, you might want to watch the live certain of "Rise Again" she does with Apocalyptica.... I was lucky enough to see them both in dual concert recently and it was amazing. I agree with you Tides of Time is totally emotion driven and probably vocally one of the best performances I’ve ever heard from Simone. She definitely goes in an opera mode several times on that one so beautiful. I like the fan produced one with the lyrics in a little picture frames really drives a beautiful lyrics home and what Mark wrote about his late grandmother that he loved her so much.

The camera makes me dizzy. That's cool for about 30 seconds, after that it becomes unbearable. I'd rather watch the other live performance, that Apokalyptica featured.
Visually it's beautiful, but tbh thre are better performances. Here I don't like the audio quality and Simone's voice falters at times. The performance with Apocalyptica is MUCH better in both aspects. And obviously, the visualizer is perfect because it's the studio version.
