J5 definitely knows what he is talking about. He is a student of the vintage guitar world. Went and caught his trio act last month & got to do the meet and greet. Class act all the way. Nothing but props to that guy.
exactly how hard is it for a millionaire to buy a few guitars? j5 is one of those guitarists who really needs his leather jacket. when you get older maybe you'll understand what Im talking about.
Yes, though John 5 is not only a very fine guitar player but a collector of rare vintage Fender Telecasters and for this reason able to support an educated point of view, I agree that these new Fenders are beautiful instruments. I own the American Vintage '56 Strat and am very happy with its looks and sound. I do hope that Fender will continue making the '51 Nocaster. They've stopped making them for this year and I'm always afraid they'll no longer be around when I have the money to buy one.
I never knew much about this John 5 dude until I saw him (and heard him play) on Eddie Trunk's "That Metal Show". He is a monster player with great chops. Totally diverse.
I was a subscriber of Guitar Player magazine, and started to hate it because every time I opened it, this guy was there, until I decided to listen to him, then I changed my mind. I don't like metal, but this guy earned my respect for having such a broad range of styles in his playing abilities. There is a lot to learn from him.
I hate that a lot of Metal players like John and Root get kind of lumped in the, "all they do is gain and chug" discussion, when in reality, these are INCREDIBLY talented guys
John 5 is an incredible player, and extremely knowledgeable on the Telecaster. I am really looking forward to the release of his "Ghost Telecaster". I'll buy it the day its released
That's really great that Fender is hiring blind people to do their editing That's really progressive, I can tell that a blind person adjusted the contrast on this one Kudos
John 5 is the best person to vouch for these guitars, because he owns a whole collection of vintage telecasters. So, having him test out these guitars that are supposed to be the best, most faithful reproductions of guitars from the 50's and 60's is the best thing Fender could have done marketing wise.
Depends. You can get "close enough" with the stock bridge, but a lot of people swap them out for compensated saddles. I have a set on my CS Esquire, they work pretty well. :)
Fender, while you got guys like John 5 endorsing you, I'm in! Don't ever lose this guy. While he's on the team, I'm on the team. Hell, I'm gonna buy me a Squier Telecaster soon. We'll see how that goes. John 5 is an amazing player. A humble guy. The best ambassador you could ever have for your 'brand'. Signed: "John 5's mum". :-)
yeah, I agree, he is epitome of a true guitar player. I have so much respect for John 5 also. He really, really LOVES all the aspects of guitars, music, etc... No stereotyping allowed with John 5! He has his own brain & uses it... as does Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains.
I love how this guy is a walking oxymoron, dressed head to toe like a metal-shred-head playing chicken pickin' country. I've gained a lot of respect for him over the years as he likes to show off his versatility in all styles of music without worrying about strictly adhering to some unspoken metal code of only playing power chords in dropped tunings. This is what a true GUITAR PLAYER is. You really should experience and play all types of music to help your chops in whatever style you call home.
is jack white playing a vintage american tele? I noticed he switched to a tele on his new album and it looks like the seafoam/blue color. It sounds great and looks great, i am just curious though. I have the AVRI 62 Strat and it was worth every penny.
(2:23) "Slab Board." Isn't this a mid-'60s reissue? It's a "round-lam(inate)" (aka. "veneer board") on Fenders made after late-'62, with the exception of some (but not all) of the student guitars (Mustang, Musicmaster II, and Duo Sonic II) produced during late-'65 to early-'66, which sported a slab board due to massive back orders and the fact that reverting to slab-board construction saved production time - they didn't have to radius the mating surfaces of the maple neck and fingerboard. Jesus.
Very well said. I try to be just like you described, because great music happens across all genres. I have some friends who live by the "code" and have never played a guitar on a clean channel with just a touch of reverb. It's always full bore shred and metal. They razz me when I play some John Lee Hooker blues or some Chuck Berry rock. They just don't get it. And it's gotta be Jackson V with EMG's. A Tele with lipstick p/u's is just not "cool" to them. They are missing out on so much.
Ya gotta know that the guitars he uses are workshop pieces, definitely not factory made. Like Clapton's Strats, the guitars don't look different, but they are truly handcrafted from choice cuts of wood and hand wound pickups and wiring.
Hi ! If I write, it's just cause for me, the Telecaster is one of the most sexy guitar that we can fnd. I'm waiting for money, and the first thing I'll do is to buy a Telecaster. I already got one, but it was a gift from a friend that had changed the Lipstick pick up to put a Humbucker. So I only use the bridge P.U., cause I don't like the sound of that humbucker. I can't buy a vintage one, but ths guitar can be sounding well even with a Squier. Thanks for this video. Greetings ! BYE !
J.Ob3rting There are many brands that offer ebony boards. I have an ESP Snakebite with an ebony board. I used to have a PRS Single Cut with an ebony board. Are you referring to a particular species?
g.calvertmusic Yes. But it is very dark in this video, I have never seen rosewood that dark. Like I said, probably just the lighting in this video. Peace,
What a bunch of marketing crap. Fender get people like this to talk up the urban myth of woods and finishes and neck material etc to create this false illusion that you need to search for the holy grail of guitar with just the right combination to get your sound. Here's a tip..invest in a good amp and buy a guitar you like the feel of playing - then play it. Sound/tone is from the player, pickups and amp settings. Not wood, finish, neck. My 2cents worth - for what it's worth (Probably nothing)
This is a commercial for fender by a paid sponsor from fender. How pathetic do you need to be to pay people to say nice things about your product? very pathetic caveman marketing
J5 definitely knows what he is talking about. He is a student of the vintage guitar world. Went and caught his trio act last month & got to do the meet and greet. Class act all the way. Nothing but props to that guy.

I love how John 5 never has anything bad to say about anything... and he's always right.

PHENOMENAL VIDEO......
PHENOMENAL GUITARIST....

How awesome is it that his original '58 looks as good as a brand new re-issue......sooooo jealous.
What kind of cable is that???
John 5 is an incredible player, and extremely knowledgeable on the Telecaster. I am really looking forward to the release of his "Ghost Telecaster". I'll buy it the day its released
Thank you Fender. Thank you John 5 Im loving those guitars.

Question - @ 1:19.. what song was he playing there? I know I know it, but it's just not coming to me now. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
+DeepestSleep
It's Green River, by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
+isolationdisorder Yes, that's it! Thank you :)
+isolationdisorder Actually, its "Suzie Q"
The av52ri tele has a thick 'U' neck and 7.25" radius...
absolutely man!
What kind of right angle cable is he using?
Man, when you can see the fretboard radius on camera from 15ft away, you know you won't be bending on that bad boy.
1:28 that light cream tele is like my dream tele! the singer from the zazen boys uses one

Thanks a lot.
100% agree with you bro.

'58 is sweet👍

Fender for life fuck the rest
I love les paul too!
He plays a Daphne Blue Highway One Tele with bigsby and white hardware.
May as well buy this if you're playing! None of that Norman's guitars stuff.
John amazing
I agree, that blue one is unbelievable, in fact I don't believe it even though I have just seen it.
Legend
I can't tell you how great my vintage Strat is. When it is old enough to be a vintage vintage guitar, it will be...uhm..really vintage.
johns the man! just a tele into an amp.
Amen.
He said that the blue one (his favorite) had a rosewood board. Man, it sure looks like ebony. Maybe it's just the lighting.
Shannon Mac ebony is a hard wood to come by these days, it's rosewood. The only company I'm aware of that can some how get ebony is Taylor.
J.Ob3rting There are many brands that offer ebony boards. I have an ESP Snakebite with an ebony board. I used to have a PRS Single Cut with an ebony board. Are you referring to a particular species?
I was referring to American companies. Esp is Japanese. Fender is American.
g.calvertmusic Yes. But it is very dark in this video, I have never seen rosewood that dark. Like I said, probably just the lighting in this video. Peace,
+Six String Löve Brazillian Rosewoods are really dark
this guy is very easily fascinated...
awesome.....does that make a tele player hardcore lol?
Thank God.

I like Joh5 a lot but this video is BS, just a lot of blabber ... like, wow, even the pickguard is the same ... and the knobs ... yeah, ok.
They don't sound vintage.
Not a metal guitar..
haha how much did he get paid for this shit?
