@organthruster I want to Tesla but I wanted to watch this review because I'd like to get an electric car for my wife. If you're going to have an electric car, I would think you would want to have the exhilaration experiencing great acceleration. The numbers in this review are underwhelming. if there's a really good charging network available then this could still be on my list but I don't think that exist in the United States. Maybe Europe? But, the price point is certainly far less than a Tesla. All these electric cars are missing some of the excitement that Tesla's have and let's be real everyone's really copying Tesla. Autopilot and enhanced autopilot plus all the other cool features like the huge screen and app that allows me to control things, etc. All these things create an experience that make us very loyal to Tesla. I'm a huge Jaguar fan and I think that their electric vehicle is quite beautiful but it's just missing too many of the features that I like to consider it. Dismissing Tesla's success because of fanaticism is misunderstanding what's happening.
organthruster the problem is, the top ICE brands have still not, despite Tesla being out for years, managed to come remotely close with range, software or charging network. As a Tesla owner I want competition so I have choice. Right now, when I do long distance driving (plus a road trip from the Nordics to the UK twice a year (close to 2,000 miles), there is no electric car that gets me there other than the Tesla. As nice as this etron is, it still doesn’t meet the needs of what an electric car should do to compete with a combustion car. It doesn’t push the envelope on at all. It is not an improvement on Tesla. It’s just an electric Audi with no charging infrastructure and shorter range than an older Tesla.
@@Babarky range? Sure is a problem if you are a travelling salesman. But 90% of car journeys are less than a 100 miles. There's more leafs out there than teslas anyway.
Yay, I'm first. I'm not sold on the side view cameras replacing side mirrors. I think standard side mirrors with a possible option to switch between actual mirror view and digital view (just like what's found on top end trims of Cadillac ATS-V sedan). Nice design though just like we've come to expect from Audi lately.
@@AOTanoos22 I'd much prefer that option along with frameless side windows like the Audi Q8. I think Audi could also add the option of frameless side windows on the boxy Q7

Not a huge deal for me, but is Audi offering a sunroof on the E tron? Their online configurator doesn't seem to include one, but I'm certain I've seen some photos with it included.
You will always look to the range meter whatever, how far can I drive til the batterie ist empty, do you really want that? Or can you carry some spare batteries in the trunk?
I hope they improve battery charging I have the model x, it’s a pain in the but when I go out and have to charge in my local area of Ashburn VA. The outdoor chargers charge at different rates the charging stations near me take forever.
Not entirely true. Electrify America in the US offers 150kW charging across the country, coast to coast, up to 350kW charging as well as Evgo and Chargepoint which usually offer 50kW-150kW fast charging. Europe/UK/Norway/Netherlands have networks like Ionity, Eon, Tritium, Fastend, Evgo, just to name a few. All 50kW-175kW fast charging enabled. It's just not as uniformed and simple as plugging a Tesla into a supercharger and no interaction with a computer screen for payment, making the Tesla network more desirable and easy to use than others.
Perhaps the biggest advantage you could have with side view cameras is the ability to see your blind spot, but this completely misses the boat. I don't get it.
It could also be foretelling of the best name ever - and for the record I preordered one so not hating on it..... just hoping its not the 'best name ever'.
I'll say it again...these people are asinine to keep launching new EVs without making any statement about a global or country-wide fast charging network. Without a fast charging network an EV is tethered to its range is useful only for daily commutes and not road trips. And that my friends gives the Tesla an advantage by light years as it is the only EV that allows people to completely replace their ICE vehicles and take it out on a road trip.
Why do you think they don't make a statement? Together with Porsche, Daimler, BMW and Ford, Audi builds the "ionty" network in Europe along the highways. At the moment, 37 stations are online, 48 are under construction. The aim is 400 stations by 2020. And they are nor the only one. Unlike Tesla you are not depending on one company, instead there are several companies that build CCS-Networks. At the moment there are 130 CCS Stations with more than 100 kW in Europe, and it is growing quickly. And 4825 CCS Stations in general, but most of them are only 50kW. Yes, Tesla still has an advantge when it comes to fas chargers. But at least in Europa not "by light years".
I don't think this interior is better than the I-Pace. And I have been an Audi owner for the last 15 years including the A3 e-tron. Actually this has less range than the I-Pace, slower to 60 than the I-Pace and more expensive than the I-Pace.
The appearance of the iPace interior is good but I found the door handle mechanisms to feel ‘plasticy’ and the handle to lift the cover up in the boot fell off when I picked it up! iPace is a nice car but think the Model 3 has better range, storage space, Autopilot and is a lot cheaper than the iPace.
I find it hilarious that the e-tron is called an SUV when it’s clearly a great looking wagon. But in America we aren’t allowed to call it a wagon because nobody will buy it.
I leased an Audi etron 2019. Comparing eTron to my 2014 Tesla model S, I like to drive model S much better than eTron. Audi's eTron interior is by far much better than Tesla model S, other than that, Tesla is much better car. Here is my conclusions: 1. Tesla has much better driving range. 2. Tesla runs very quiet vs, eTron actual generates annoying noise which can't be turned off. 3. Tesla drives like an electric car and Audi eTron drives more like a gasoline car. 4. 2014 Tesla has more high tech features than 2019 Audi eTron.
The Weight appears to take the EV potential some levels down - 2.5 Ton for this and a Tesla-X also about the 2.5 Ton, Jaguar I-pace 2.133 ton, Tesla Model 3 1,847 Ton - Different segment and debatable design but an i3 weigh up to a little over 1.3 Ton - A totally different approach to create an EV. But at least this e-Tron looks quite good and I am sure there will be AUDI fans ready to convert to this - The interior is excellent and AUDI fans will feel at home. I do not think the Tesla-X looks very good but for performance and interior space it sets the standard of what can be achieved with an EV platform at the moment. But one must not forget the E-Tron GT coming up - its a looker and performance will be high. But acceleration will soon not be a real debateable thing anymore - The Revian Truck is said to have 0-60 around the 3-sec mark - it´s freaking offroad truck. What AUDI and the VW group (Porsche) has claimed for their EV system is the ability to maintain a high top speed over longer distances - That will make a lot of sense for the Autobahn, I hope they can deliver on that promise.
@@scratchy996 , for a car that is designed with aerodynamics in mind, the side mirror look small, but there aero drag is huge. If you can reduce drag, you can go farther with less battery. Less battery means less weight, more acceleration ... you get the idea. Since this car comes with or without conventional side mirror, side by side testing can be done to see how much range is saved. If you get 20 more miles of range on the highway -that would be awesome.
Bugger that £70k? im looking at either a KIA or a Hyundai. Maybe not the quality but half the price. When the Tesla 3 comes to the uk, they will lose out & go down in price like a lead balloon.

Hands down!!! Tesla 3 rides like a spaceship not like a car. And the giant iPad in the center console is more than you need to pilot that beast. Your attention is set on one focal point which is far better than this Audi.
If they can put cameras instead of mirrors; why did they make them so large. It seems like a missed opportunity but the vehicle looks nice overall just not as nice as a Tesla.
The problem with all the electric cars is that they are taking way too long to come out! They should have known way ahaid that this was the future, They had 24 years to get in the market, as the EV1 was first released in 1996. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_EV1
Still not viable, charge time wise, and locations, because the home chargers are slow as snails, and cost wise we are in very nice luxury/performance car territory. I would like to get one, but its just not reasonable enough yet. Respect the effort from Audi though.
This is standard practice from todays' auto makers. Remember when airbags were introduced? ABS? Even 3 point seat belts! They all appeared at the luxury end of the market and then filtered down into the cars that any member of Joe public can afford. Give it 5 years maximum and EVs will mean business as usual.

Seems like its only going to become more so as we move into the future.
@@SKLIFEstyle We are at an interesting period in car history. The sale of cars worldwide actually fell in 2018 for the first time ever. The general thinking from leading analysts is that people are holding off from changing their car because they are waiting for the EV they want and can afford. The only growth segment of the automotive industry was in EVs. Hopefully with the new VW and Honda EV ranges being introduced late 2019-2020 there will be growing number of affordable EVs out there. The other interesting area is battery cost. The price to manufacture batteries is about to hit the $100 per Kw. Once it gets to $90 per Kw EVs will actually be cheaper to build than the ICE equivalent. Most people agree this will happen no later than 2020, and by that time the charging infrastructure will be much much better. I hope you hang on for a year or two before buying a new car!! Once you drive electric, you won't go back!

No it doesn’t. Uses 7.5kWh of energy to make a gallon of petrol. That 7.5kWh used to make the fuel could power an EV for about 30 miles. Plus electric motors are around 90% efficient compared with ICE around 30%.
Too much money! Tesla is way more inexpensive, greater range and with a much better charging station network (in the US). Audi needs to get the price down considerably to make it more appealing.
They are not paddle shifters, they control the amount of regeneration you get. These are becoming very common in the EV marketplace. I guess they use this system as it's something familiar to most ICE drivers, even though they serve a different function.
I don’t know about French but I think Etron will soon mean Shit in English soon when it gets real world tests compared with Tesla Model 3 or S or X, and definitely the Y when that comes out. Expensive, not as efficient, not as high tech, slower and not as cool.

I admire tesla for what they have tried to do but I still think that tesla as a company will not survive. From what I hear the quality is just not there. After tha warranty runs out they are just a piece of junk. This car looks great and the build quality will be vastly superior. Once the Germans get going on the electric vehicle bandwagon I fear they are doomed. Also the likes of Kia with the e niro coming on the market with a seven year warranty better build quality and half the price is another nail in tesla's coffin I fear.
John French I wouldn’t even so concerned about Tesla. Don’t believe what a lot of oil industry bank rolled reviews would have you believe about Tesla build quality. Most of the important engineering on a Tesla is very good. The indicator and PRND cluster is directly from a Mercedes, the flat bottom steering wheel is Maybach, and the brakes are all high quality Brembo. Having driven lots of alternatives these so called ‘Tesla Killers’ all just seem to show me how good and infront Tesla really is. They all seem to be smaller, slower, less efficient and less range, and just as expensive if not more so. I think Tesla’s biggest threat is Hyundai with its Kona.
I've just seen this reviewed in Norway, doesn't seem that the temperature is much of an issue for this car. I'm guessing they did the press launch in Dubai as there are far more people who can afford to buy one of these there!!!

Can Audi match Tesla's months long waits on completing repairs?
Yay, I'm first. I'm not sold on the side view cameras replacing side mirrors. I think standard side mirrors with a possible option to switch between actual mirror view and digital view (just like what's found on top end trims of Cadillac ATS-V sedan). Nice design though just like we've come to expect from Audi lately.
It is an option, you can still get it with normal side mirrors
@@AOTanoos22 I'd much prefer that option along with frameless side windows like the Audi Q8. I think Audi could also add the option of frameless side windows on the boxy Q7
Lexus ES already has side camera.
Still have long way to go to improve the mileage. But I like the car interior.
fangdan fangdan pardon the pun.
thess cars are way too quite for the road especially at higher speeds some one may cross the road not hearing any cars therefor i would advise all electric cars to have sound actuators fitted so people can atleast hear them coming
I live outside Leesburg!!! Very close.
Damn, I want it so badly but wow that price :(
For clarification: Etron: 200mile range. Tesla: 300mile range. Tesla has supercharger worldwide. Etron? No.
THIS AUDI is GORGEOUS!
Generic SUV body. Nothing gorgeous about it.
Perhaps the biggest advantage you could have with side view cameras is the ability to see your blind spot, but this completely misses the boat. I don't get it.
The worst naming convention. Period
It could also be foretelling of the best name ever - and for the record I preordered one so not hating on it..... just hoping its not the 'best name ever'.

plus, etron mean shit in french...
@@thatebutuoyguy788 yes "merde" mean shit to. it's more slang. Where étron is more like turd i gess
You can order it with regular mirrors right?
(according to Audi it's about fuel consumption and road noise but I would prefer regular mirrors)
yes, you can.
how much is one of the mirror camera's compared to a glass version?
The cameras are included on the Launch Edition and Edition 1 models of the E-Tron, but on the standard model they’re a £1,250 option.
just curious can you give a figure on how much energy is saved with the aerodynamic rear view cameras energy?
I-pace looks cheap in person, this interior from Audi reminds me too much of the Golf7 navigation with vents on top
@@MercedesAMGsRULE but model3 isn't as practical without the hatchback
sebxx very true a hatch would make a big improvement.
Looks STUNNING... as a photographer this car beautiful to shooting 👍👍👍
Sorry, for $80K, I prefer Tesla with Self-Driving. So much more fun with Tesla, by far.....and mileage is the other draw.
Does it come with a stick shift?
2019 etron with less range than 2015 model x :/
I am waiting for the Rivian SUV
Great review
I find it hilarious that the e-tron is called an SUV when it’s clearly a great looking wagon. But in America we aren’t allowed to call it a wagon because nobody will buy it.
Those side-mirror cameras are an option? Good.
Ordered mine in mid september!
I leased an Audi etron 2019. Comparing eTron to my 2014 Tesla model S, I like to drive model S much better than eTron. Audi's eTron interior is by far much better than Tesla model S, other than that, Tesla is much better car. Here is my conclusions:
Re side cameras even legal?? I thought mirrors were a legal requirement.
legal in many countries, but not yet in the US. Personally, I think they are a useless gimmick.
Yes, at least since the VW XL1, which was the first production car from Germany to have them.
Love the colour of this Test car....can anyone tell me colour name
Siambeige

Bugger that £70k? im looking at either a KIA or a Hyundai. Maybe not the quality but half the price. When the Tesla 3 comes to the uk, they will lose out & go down in price like a lead balloon.

Those side mirror cameras are just idiotic for the sake of "let's be high tech". May as well replace the windshield with a screen and camera...
Why not? In a few decades you dont drive anymore. The car wil.
David Lopez Don’t know why the don’t use say the indicator light like they do on the Tesla for a camera, that would give a great view.
Great review!😸
The problem with all the electric cars is that they are taking way too long to come out! They should have known way ahaid that this was the future, They had 24 years to get in the market, as the EV1 was first released in 1996.

Not even a sunroof? smh a Toyota corolla has one and its 20k
Toyawful is a lame hybrid that's over priced and has no innovation at all.
@@andyw4844 Which is fine, about what I figured. Just mean my very next car wont be an EV as much as I would be Ok with one if it were viable. Very much looking to more electrified cars, ie performance hybrids like NSX. Regardlesa there is so many great cars being made choosing one period is very difficult.

2.5 *tons* They should consider adding the weight into taxes.....cars are turning into small trucks weight wise but pay low to no tax because EV or tiny engines.
About those side mirrors...have fun paying with a kidney when somebody breaks them.
Takes more emissions to charge that thing or make the battery than it does to refine 1000 barrels of crude
Toad Guy please share fact and data to prove that
No it doesn’t. Uses 7.5kWh of energy to make a gallon of petrol. That 7.5kWh used to make the fuel could power an EV for about 30 miles. Plus electric motors are around 90% efficient compared with ICE around 30%.
Great build quality, but at 6000 pounds it will ride like a brick.
Too much money! Tesla is way more inexpensive, greater range and with a much better charging station network (in the US). Audi needs to get the price down considerably to make it more appealing.
why does it have paddle shifters????
They are not paddle shifters, they control the amount of regeneration you get. These are becoming very common in the EV marketplace. I guess they use this system as it's something familiar to most ICE drivers, even though they serve a different function.
Andy Whitehead thank you I didn’t know that!!!
Nice car❤️
I hate the cameras instead of mirrors. Noone asked for this, it doesnt improve anything and costs a lot more.
Audi E-Tron Joined The Chat. Tesla Model X Left The Chat.
No range lol. Well I have to say I like this better the the jag or Tesla. But Audi quality is not cheap for repairs. Neither is the others.
Out of the 2 and a half ton, 1 ton probably is just the battery....
Why not show this in a European city environment instead of just outside of dubai? Seriously?
Doesn't "etron" mean shit in French?
More like turd but yes....
I don’t know about French but I think Etron will soon mean Shit in English soon when it gets real world tests compared with Tesla Model 3 or S or X, and definitely the Y when that comes out. Expensive, not as efficient, not as high tech, slower and not as cool.
We really are living in a very futurist era of electric cars, when will flying cars become the next thing.
Tesla already starting on a network of tunnels fir cars, going underground instead of up in the air, you really don't to break down mid flight or have bits fall off on to the people below
$90K CAD !!! I don't think so, even if the range is 300km, lol

Why weren't we making electric cars 100 years ago? Where would we be if we were?
We were, unfortunately the oil industry was very powerful, even then, and EVs were resigned to history. They actually had the largest market share at one point!

fly guy wales well spotted. Don’t tell anyone who thinks the ‘superior German build quality’ is the best thing ever.
Sure, they named it E-tron... Does anyone know what etron means in french? Now there's a few countries in the world laughing at that piece of shit and the people who named it! I think the marketing department slept real well on that one. Amazing.
its named different in france! Its called "e-tray"
Why are they testing this car in the desert? may be its about the range of this thingy
Cold would put too much toll on the range
I've just seen this reviewed in Norway, doesn't seem that the temperature is much of an issue for this car. I'm guessing they did the press launch in Dubai as there are far more people who can afford to buy one of these there!!!
