Hi Rory, Hello from Denmark. I bought myself a Q8 e-tron 55, precisely for the reason that it gives a natural premium feeling, in my opinion, drives, and handles way better than the other luxury SUVs, and in addition looks a lot better than the rest of the SUVs. And now with the new massive battery, it gives me a range that is more than fine. And an underwhelming, understated car without Netflix, browsers, and games is in my modest Scandinavian vocabulary something pretty good😉.
I agree. Canadian here. I don't find the range here such an issue since I can charge about 100km a night at home and I have a supercharger a few blocks from me. It's a dream to drive and the ability to raise/lower the suspension for when conditions get bad is a real luxury.

Slight improvement on the range compared to the pre-facelift, but still not great, especially for something that has such a humongous battery. I'm pretty sure the next Q8 e-tron will be based on a bespoke EV platform and will as a result be superb. This is still the most comfortable eSUV to drive this side of the EQS SUV.

I absolutely don't understand why car reviewers continuously spend minutes complaining about the cameras on the Audi E-tron, Audi doesn't make it compulsory to all Q8 E-trons, you literary have to choose the cameras over mirrors, if you want. It's a choice
I love my 2021 model, so much that I started my own RUclips channel. It’s just a big Audi allroad that happens to be electric. Not particularly innovative or efficient, but a wonderful car.
I’m not the biggest Audi fan, but even I understand why they call this the Q8, which is basically saying this is their flagship EV SUV. I’m sure a Q7 or Q6 version will follow.
Do we really need cars to have Netflix and games? I think the Q8 e-tron is an amazing car to drive and for once, looks good being electric. Criticizing a car for not having games is a bit silly
Can't wait to buy one in a few years when it's half off. But seriously, these things have crazy depreciation. Just look at values for the previous e-tron vs MSRP. Audi just doesn't update these things until the next model year, which doesn't work in a modern technology driven world.
I like the idea of cameras instead of side view mirrors but only if you can switch off the picture at night. Basically where we live, rural Canada, the drive at night is long and empty roads and I really don't want light reflection from the rear since there is no lane change really. Light pollution is a problem driving at night anyway so anything to reduce the glare is a good idea in my mind. The cameras can be turned on if you need to see out the side view anyway. But if you can't switch them off then I'd be less interested. Driving in an urban area yeah I think it would probably be annoying to have to deal with but on rural roads at night it might actually be a useful feature.
There are a whole host of electric cars that are better and cheaper than this one. The Tesla Y is lighter, nimbler, faster, cheaper, has more range, a supercharger network and the quality is excellent. The Hyundai ionics and Ford Mach-e are pretty darn good. If you are stuck on expensive German SUVs, then Mercedes EQB or EQS are excellent, if expensive.
Save your money and get a Q4 for the mundane day-to-day and a second hand R8 for the same price. Also the Q4 has a good boot for its size and also similar range
Nice car looks great update on the previous model. Not sure we need games on the infotainment Rory? Lastly, still not sure of the name. Look at the translation in French....etron
One pedal driving is enabled by clicking the left paddle behind the wheel. And Audi has succeded in standing out. The car is like a fossil car except its electric. That is the whole goal of the car.
I don’t understand why the screen for the mirror is not located in the triangle at the front of the drivers window by the A pillar. I also do not understand the need to the sticky out camera having a couple of cameras along the length of the car could achieve the same view once the image is merged and manipulated live.
i like the mirrors pretty much and you get used to it very quickly that those are lower than mirrors usually and also the car looks better from outside with those cameras. Also many people have been curious how they work.
I think the infotainment system in the audi is amazing. Super easy to use, looks good and integrated with the design. It is never to much and anybody can use them just looking at them once. Some people prefer the more modern systems like in the mercedes, but I think all that is to much and it is a bit hard to use, at least I felt that when I drove one. Not only that buit it looks like a footballers car that is just a show off car that looks like a disco on the inside. I prefer the super easy to use system on the audi, and it doesnt look like it shows off. We are buying cars, not computers at the end of the day
I love the (relative) simplicity. Modern interiors that look like a computer gamer's dungeon, with a trillion lights and displays, are not great automotive experiences.
Price is off the charts, I get the quality but for less than half the price I can buy a model Y long range that will average 3.5 to 4 kw per mile. 280 to 310 average in the summer. Audi need to make a much bigger step.
Looking very much to a review of the new Q6 e-tron when it launches at the end of this year. Hopefully that might be sensible *and* more sporty to drive.
Is now the time again that an EV is a "car". Means range - power is not the issue anymore, you go for a test drive and you like it a lot and buy it? You like the design, the smell, how it feels like you drive it? that would be great.
The middle rear seat did not appear a welcoming place to be. For a £100k, i would be looking for bells, whistles and the rest. (No EV should feel slow off the line, given the torque advantage of all electric vehicles.) What is the VAG hangup about one-pedal driving? Upgrade the software, make it a menu option and let drivers decide.
One pedal driving is not as efficient as the Audi system which invokes recuperative deceleration when it feels the need to, or you can use the paddles.
Just a general comment, can Rory amend his presentation to avoid detailed comparisons to other models which we may have no clue about. Was the previous model a looker? No idea about context here - just say if you like the styling or not.
Owner here. The nav will send you to a 50kW charger even if a 150kW+ is nearby or to stations that are broken! So you can’t trust it and have to use ABRP instead! 😢
even if the virtual mirrors are standard (vorsprung in the UK for example), you can always specify normal mirrors at no cost. Pity you don't make a saving but that's how it is.
A well made comfortable premium car. But the somewhat limited range despite having rather big batteries means it fails spectacularly at power efficiency. And I don't wanna imagine trying to take this one on a longer drive in winter. Also not having at least the option for one pedal driving is stupid. Last but not least those camera "mirrors" are just bad. In short, I agree with Rory's verdict. This car is your choice if you are less interested in efficiency and place more value on having a big premium car. Aka managers - little modesty and more money than common sense.

Nio el7
@@naeem_bari this is not a Model Y competitor. It's a Model X competitor based on its size.
Unless you really need the extra range, there's no reason to get a Model X over this. Far more premium yet cheaper
totally agreed - just drive them back to back and you will know. If you living in rural areas you don't have a choice still
Nio EL7 is better than this as it's bespoke and super modern with swap technology. This is essentially an ice age car
@@ciybersal9833 Ice age car is a good one 😁
Interesting camera points
Save your money and get a Q4 for the mundane day-to-day and a second hand R8 for the same price. Also the Q4 has a good boot for its size and also similar range
A Q8 Is Just A 5 Seater Q7,
& E-Tron Is The Electric Version.
Totally agree with the cameras as mirrors, they are just dangerous!
Rory you forgot to add . you’re a premium car journalist.
Great honest review .... 👍
Nice car looks great update on the previous model. Not sure we need games on the infotainment Rory? Lastly, still not sure of the name. Look at the translation in French....etron
Hi. Can anyone confirm the boot size on the new etron versus the old one?
Perfect and honest review!
One pedal driving is enabled by clicking the left paddle behind the wheel. And Audi has succeded in standing out. The car is like a fossil car except its electric. That is the whole goal of the car.
Choosing between this and the BMW IX for my first EV. Think I prefer the IX.
We are buying cars, not computers at the end of the day
Whats the diff between plain e-tron suv and q8 e-tron?
I will always choose mirror than camera
Great review!
I've been waiting for this review. It's about time
Can you charge phone wireless in this?
I love the (relative) simplicity. Modern interiors that look like a computer gamer's dungeon, with a trillion lights and displays, are not great automotive experiences.
Slight out of topic, i thought i was listening to Seventeen's song because of the KSHMR sample in the opening 😂
Got mine! It's awesome... Range could be better but other than that the car is a 10
Big improvements from Audi tbf
Is now the time again that an EV is a "car". Means range - power is not the issue anymore, you go for a test drive and you like it a lot and buy it? You like the design, the smell, how it feels like you drive it? that would be great.
The middle rear seat did not appear a welcoming place to be. For a £100k, i would be looking for bells, whistles and the rest. (No EV should feel slow off the line, given the torque advantage of all electric vehicles.) What is the VAG hangup about one-pedal driving? Upgrade the software, make it a menu option and let drivers decide.
Normally you should be able to change the recuperation strength with the panel shifters
I own one and I love it !
As a e-tron owner, besides the range, I don’t see any improvement at all. Very disappointed to be frank.
One pedal driving is not as efficient as the Audi system which invokes recuperative deceleration when it feels the need to, or you can use the paddles.
No preheating of battery is a rather large negative in the nordics I would think... Or is it? Curious since I am contemplating buying one...
Great review. Thanks.
Just a general comment, can Rory amend his presentation to avoid detailed comparisons to other models which we may have no clue about. Was the previous model a looker? No idea about context here - just say if you like the styling or not.
Shame they still have screen-only interfaces. I prefer the physical buttons in my GT for heating/AC
What is wrong with mirrors ? they do exactly what you want them to do and you get better depth perception !
ok watch the video now so " what he said " 🙂
@@matt6201 from 52,000 miles of practical experience (rather than a road test), I agree with Matt
Same opinion on the name! Already there is a Q8 which is much bigger...
I don’t get the wing mirrors. Why the cameras if you still have bits sticking out. Seems tech for tech’s sake.
I think Rory is saving up for a grand piano!
Hardly a stellar endorsement. Thanks.
The Q8 eTron is nice but on the costly side. I went for a BMW iX over it, which is slightly cheaper like-for-like.
Owner here. The nav will send you to a 50kW charger even if a 150kW+ is nearby or to stations that are broken! So you can’t trust it and have to use ABRP instead! 😢
We all saw Mat Watson Audi s8 in the back on 5:28
They should give that wing mirrors with cameras as option and regular mirrors as standard.
It is
even if the virtual mirrors are standard (vorsprung in the UK for example), you can always specify normal mirrors at no cost. Pity you don't make a saving but that's how it is.
Was going to get the sportsback one but for 90k it doesn’t have the wow factor. By the way the US version doesn’t have the digital side view mirror.
Audi mostly fails the eye test with their choice of alloy rims. They just don't look good unless you buy the RS range.
Easily the best looking ev on the road
Witch will you take home : This Q8 or the BWM IX ?
Q8
BMW
no coolin seats at front? no heated seats at back ? what a top spec car :) I prefer EQS Suv :)
That model had heated seats in the back. I suspect that cooled seats and massage seats are market specific. I haven't seen them available in the UK
very nice video and informative
I've owned two Audis and I'm done with VAG vehicles. I now have two BMWs and I'm much happier.
Where is the buttons need these especially for aircon be surprised if it sells well
It's already selling well
