    brilliant video. I have the DT990s 250ohm which are the same but open back. But a lot of what you say applies also to the 990s. In the hifi community they have had some good and some bad reviews. Some saying that the treble is too much. But I really love mine. I honestly ask myself the question could it sound any better ? The sound is dynamic, powerful, clear and I only plug it into my MacBook Pro, I even love the spiral cable because it keeps things short and neat but can expand if needed. My 12 year old son uses mine all the time too so they get a lot of use. One other thing I dont think the driver change over time but the sound apparently does because the pads themselves get a little flatter moving the driver closer to the ear. But then again I cant remember how they really sounded when I bought them.... all I know they sound fantastic now...

    Impedence does not mean quality and never did... its just a measure of resistance, the higher the more power it needs to work properly, different tuned drivers will give different results and hogher or lower impedence does not have anything to do with quality.

    • @Tunelighting
      @Tunelighting  3 года назад +1

      That's a really good point, I'd not really though about it but they never fall off my head as they fit rather snug. But now you've said that I remember my old headphones would always fall off when messing around with guitar pedals etc. So I guess that's another added bonus!

    • @amogrows
      @amogrows 3 года назад

      @@Tunelighting The fact you never brought it up, I'd assume, is key to why it's not an issue. I'm sure you'd have mentioned it if it was, or at lest be reviewing a different pair by now. Not sure how many musicians, producers etc would endure using a pair of headphones for over two years that are prone to falling off all of the time.
      The non detachable cable is my only issue at the moment, but it's not a major thing. It's just that I have gotten used to being able to detach, having the freedom to swap out a cable if necessary. But that said, if you've taken yours on the road, mildly abused them, and not had a problem with the cable over their lifetime to date, then it would be reasonable to assume they included a high quality cable in the design plans. Therefore, I probably shouldn't be too concerned about that, anticipating getting a good few years out of them before any faults cropped up.
      Besides that, sound review, and like you stated, it is better than those unboxings as this is a true testimonial after years of use. I am almost swayed to get me a pair

Had the same problem with my 15 year old DT 770 Pro 250 Ohm, I simply ordered 2 new drivers from Beyerdynamics, the headphones are easy to service and all that is required are some basic tools, like a screwdriver (or for newer models torx or hex keys) and a soldering iron. All parts are available as spares.
      Also it is recommended to replace the earpads, as they wear down over time and absorb a lot of the lower frequency sound. Those shown in this vid look completely flattened and worn. I'm handwashing the earpads once or twice with soap, then replace them before they get 2 years old, in the end it depends on the amount of wear.

      @Aliens308 10 месяцев назад

      @@frederik4515 After all they aren't that expensive, so buying new one isn't that bad, but if nothing major is broken it is still interesting to repair them. Here the drivers do cost 48,7€ a piece, so they aren't cheap. First I only replaced the broken one, but the remaining driver did sound a little softer, so I decided to replace it as well. If they are totally broken and worn, one might as well buy a new pair for the price of 2 drivers, a new cushion for the headband and a pair of earpads.
      But apparently they have also changed the type of plastic used for the cups and some parts are manufactured in China nowadays, like the earpads, it says so on the packaging. So might as well keep mine in good working order for the foreseeable future. Next time something breaks I will put a mini XLR socket on them and make the cable removable

One way of boosting the monitoring volume would be to use an external headphone amplifier with scarlett 2i2. Something like Schiit Magni 3 or something. I have the 250ohm version. My ears are very very sensitive and so I can get away with half the volume levels than a lot of other people. I even found the volume sufficiently loud on my mobile phone at 50% volume! Yes I believe they have because they are closed back and I guess it gives you extra length when using them for monitoring. I have the 990s too which has a coiled cable and I find that seems to get in the way more, personally I prefer the straight one but I think it's personal preference

      It does have a couple of Dips in the frequency but nothing that affects anything that drastically, if you are just practicing. If you are mixing piano then probably worth using with sonarworks if you are nervous about missing stuff or just checking on other systems

    1 of the big selling points of these for me was the extra long uncoiled cord, however, after a year's use, the cord has become curled in 2 separate large areas, and I haven't been able to straighten it back out. Are there any tips to uncurl it and get it straight again. When I try to pull it straight, it just curls back into a permanent coil.

    I have the MMx300s now ... not going to lie, they sound amazing, however the bass is kind of lacking and generally my super old Syberia650s still sound better and much more OOMPH / immersion. I think it's because they have 50mm drivers, boosting that sub bass a bit more vs 40 mm on these, and pretty much most popular headsets.

    aisla más que un semiabierto pero no tanto. El sonido es bueno al menos,
    apreta un poco al principio.

    I need real answer here. I bought them expecting something great... And right away after first try I almost started laughing how bad they sound. Zero bass. Boosted highs. People keep telling me that "You need an AMP" so my question is, DOES AMP MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE? I'm afraid to invest another 100$ on an Amp that won't make difference. And I will be left up with garbage sound and amp that does nothing.

    • @Tunelighting
      @Tunelighting  3 года назад

      What are you trying to do with them? They aren't meant to sound amazing just fairly flat. I do think you are right that they could be flatter but in terms of clarity etc I find them really good. I tend to use them with sonarworks too just to flatten out those slight peaks and troughs. I think what you get for the price is pretty good.

    • @ashonline77

      Did you get 80 ohm or 250?either way an amp will make it sound better for sure. Now the question is, are you someone who is a bass head who thinks the best sounding headphones have a ton of bass on them? If so then you're at the wrong place my guy. These headphones aren't meant to sound like your average bass boosted headphones. These are studio headphones and are meant to portray how something is intended to sound rather than boosting it to sound better like how a lot of casual headphones on the market does.

      @@ashonline77 80 Ohms, I like bass on some songs. But not having bass at all makes no sense for me. You loose all the low end just for few high notes that you won't hear on something like XM4's... Idk.

    • @ashonline77
      @ashonline77 3 года назад +1

      @@gytispranskunas4984 the 770s 80 ohms has one of the highest bass if not the most bass out of all dt series. So it shouldn't be as bad as you're saying imo. Getting an amp will give you more bass but ofc keep your expectations low since its not gonna sound like some kind of bass boosted headphone either way but it should give you more bass with an amp since for things like bass is what you need an amp the most.

      These headphones achieve the deepest most booming and punchy bass I've ever heard in a headphone. You probably aren't powering them enough if you cannot hear the bass. For example, the following linked youtube video makes my whole head shake if I turn my volume up to 60% on my PC. If I increase the volume to 80% and hold them in my hands, my whole hand vibrates considerably. (I do have an amplifier) ruclips.net/video/P8edlLBh0DA/видео.html

      I'm the same. Bought them as my first closed back headphones. I own the old HD598 model and I can't stand the soundstage of DT770 and their piercing trebles. If you don't need closed back then from my perspective DT are inferior to HD598 in every way... they probably are a bit better on the details but otherwise they are extremely bright and tight on your head compared to HD598.
