I remember being really annoyed that I didn’t understand the relationship mechanics and couldn’t work out how to get them to marry or have kids etc 😂 I then skipped straight ahead to sims 3 and it was revolutionary to me!
when I played Sims 2 for the first time and I did "try for baby" I assumed it would be a lot like the sims 1 with a pop up and then a bassinet, and then shortly after I noticed my sim had a pregnant belly and I was like WHAT?!?!
I was an adult playing Sims 1 when it first came out! My third baby was born in 2003 and I have a picture of her as an infant, sitting on my desk, with Sims 1 on the monitor behind her! LOL I was so excited when Sims 2 came out because kids could finally age up and it was a game changer! I played Sims 2 (skipping Sims 3) until your first 100 baby challenge which made me try Sims 4 for the first time ever! I still miss a LOT about Sims 2 but I play Sims 4 regularly now. This was a fun walk down memory lane.
I also skipped sims 3. I loved sims 1, had the time but no money. Parents bought expansions for birthdays. Sims 2 I had time, still no money Sibling bought Sims2. Sims 3 had the disposable income, no time. Now I don't have money or time, but got sims 4 before it went free but 75% off
I have been playing since TS1. I likewise skipped 3 and have been playing 4 for almost 2 years. TS1 kids can age up, but only if you have a mod or Makin' Magic. And what they will look like is entirely up in the air as there are no genetics. I do actively play TS2, but TS4 gets the most of my time. My TS2 videos get more attention than my TS4 videos, though.
The Sims 3 was actually a revolution in itself! The open world is a whole different experience I wish we had in the sims 4 and if you can ever try it out, you should!
I skipped sims 3 too! I was studying at uni and having kids, took about 10 years off the Sims games and when my kids were old enough to not need attention all the time (7-9 years old) I first got the Sims 4... I think about 5 years ago. Got my daughter playing too! (She started with the Sims 2 on my MacBook). I'm of the 'play several hours a day / don't touch the game in months' variety.
Everytime Chelsea complained about not being able to do a romantic action I looked at the friendship bar and started laughing. I mean, when I played the sims 1 I would high five the other sim till they had 60 of friendship and only then would start being romantic.
having never played any sims game before sims 4, i figured she was having a hard time because the friendship was low (didnt know how to read the bars tho, so i couldnt say which meant which). i cant believe how easy we have it in sims 4 now lol
Ah yes, the infamous school bus. Once upon a time, a child in my Sim family stood in front of it when he got home and peed his pants, blocking the bus from moving. Good times.
Oh, even better is when a pet does it. I've seen cases where a cat just lies down in the middle of the ROAD all comfortable, like, "I'm not goin' anywhere." and just falls asleep...and behind the cat, the school bus and THREE OTHER CARS are all held up. Adorable, funny, and VERY accurate cat behaviour. "Eff your entire schedule, I'm comfy." XD
I remember in The Sims 3 I was playing with my Sims and it was time for school and both my teenagers went okay but the child was going to the bus and was kidnapped and I was so mortified, i had to get my uncle to un-kidnap idk how but I was so scared I worked hard on those kids😂😭😭
I'd forgotten how hard relationships were in S1. Clearly blocked those memories. Also, if you ever do want a deep dive in Sims lore, Plumbella has an "Entire History of" playlist that's terrific.
Those are SO GOOD. I'd also recommend...how do you spell her name...Izzzyzzz (I had to look it up) The New Zealander girl with different insane hair, makeup, and costumes. She does AMAZING Sims videos, if you aren't allergic to yet _another_ strong accent, after Plumbella's. :) (And I swear one time she was wearing EXACTLY one of the Sims 4 eye-makeups--but ironically, this wasn't on her Sims 4 video.)
It was hard but I kind of miss the complexity of the gameplay! You couldn't just spam one interaction, and the interactions available depended on the mood the sims were in and how well they knew each other. Also guests would arrive hungry and bored so you'd have to feed and entertain them before socializing.
@@KittyCat260Actually I'M okay with the accent, but I remember somebody on a Plumbella video being like "Is there anybody who does deep-dive videos on the Sims, but doesn't have a strong accent...? I'm sorry, I just kinda have trouble understanding her?" and I guess that's where my brain went when I wrote my earlier comment. :P (Actually what confuses me the most with Plumbella is when she makes all kinds of references to stuff I haven't watched, lol.)

I was one of the most prolific tutorial writers for The Sims 1 and 2 back in the day. Eliza and Bob pancakes are clearly based on Betty and Bob Newbie. Yes you can build the roller coasters I've never done one though. Legitimately the actors were making it up as they went along in The Sims 1. In future Generations they actually work from a script, but in the original they were literally just doing Improv. It was barely did you figure out that there's no pregnancy in The Sims 1? I've recreated all of the Sims 1 Neighbors in The Sims 4. It looks right in Willow Creek and newcrest since Unleashed is new orleans-themed and Willow Creek is New Orleans theme. Relationship building is so much harder in The Sims 1. Prank calls don't mean anything. And yes you can raise your relationship while watching TV together. You cannot do the same interaction more than twice in a certain amount of time I believe it is 90 minutes but I can't say that for sure. The only interaction they don't get bored with his talking unless of course you don't have common interests. Leroy is Elden's dog. The sound effect for burglar and skunk is the same so it's probably a skunk on the lot. A 100 baby challenge isn't possible because they cannot have a baby with a non-resident. So you would have to move them in and then kill them because there's no way to move them out.
Thank you for answering all of our questions! The relationship interactions are wild- but more realistic. I wouldn't want to hug someone 15 times in a row in real life
That music in build/buy really brought back some nostalgia 🥲 I’m 31 and have played almost every game since Sims 1 released 🥲🥲 I LOVE watching you play the old games, please do this more often ❤️❤️
I started playing the Sims 1 when it first came out in 2000. A co-worker showed it to me and I was hooked from the start. Hard to believe that I have been playing this game for 23 years
This reminds me a lot of my childhood with my sister. We will play this after school, freakout over a burgular, go crazy with the plot. Good old days ❤
Sims in TS1 are really picky about when and where they want to flirt/kiss/etc--try getting the Sim into a room with a high Room score, having food ready for them when they arrive (you did that), and having them sit down for a bit so their comfort goes up. It's much harder to woo people in this game, especially because sims get cranky if you repeat the same interaction too many times unlike in the later games. Also, there's no Woohoo in TS1, but you can click that bed and select "play in bed!"
The cover photo of Sims 1 in your screenshot is so nostalgic. I remember seeing it at my local electronics store when I was 13 in 2000 and thinking it was the coolest thing ever.
I still have a vivid soundbite in my head of the sound sims made when they were reading. It was a very particular little "hm hm hm" tune on a loop 😂 but not very musical, it just had very specific up and down tones. I have been obsessed with every version of this game over time! I adored Sims Medieval 👌 once you've played sims 4 none of the others feel right any more though...
My best friend borrowed the Sims basegame from another friend when it had just been released. We played it one afternoon and I asked my dad to go get the game for me right after. It literally cost me every cent I had. This was before Euros were a thing. 😅 I never looked back, got every sims pack released after. The Sims 2 is my fave. So wild and deep. There are dragons in The Sims 3 with one of the Store worlds. The medieval one.
Stop, Kelsey, stop! I can’t stop giggling and I’m at work and people are gonna think I’m crazy but Chelsea and the vibrating bed and Bella …. OMG frickin hysterical!!!! 😂 you’re the best!
The amount of times my jaw dropped during this video was insane 😂 Thanks for sharing the Sims 1! I never played it but I distinctly remember going to a girl's house in freshman year of highschool and she showed me the white mansion she built, making me go to the mall and buy the Sims 2 with my cousin. Virginia, wherever you are, hope you're doing well and thanks for introducing me to the Sims lmao.
Sadly, a sims 1 100 baby challenge is doomed from the start. I believe the only way you can have a baby is if both parents are in the household. There's no pregnancy, you just passionately kiss over and over until they ask if they should have a baby(or play in the heart bed or heart hot tub until they ask). And the kids don't age up after turning from baby into child. They're children forever.
I was 19 or 20 when The Sims came out. It took me FOREVER to get to a point in the game where my sims weren’t just crying or dying all the time 😂 also, sims don’t get pregnant in The Sims; you have to passionately kiss three times and then a bassinet appears. It was a different time lol
I do miss Magic Town. [I'm old enough to still regularly play TS2 as the "main sims game"]. I was a CRPG player but I still loved TS, esp. with my young family (my youngest child was born in 2001). This reminds me of being heavily pregnant and sitting my tod on my knee as I played while my older kids did their homework (such as it was). many of those wallpapers/tiles have been reproduced in all 3 of the following games, yes.
I only ever played the pet expansion for Sims 1 with a cousin. My mother never let me have the Sims personally so that was my only exposure. Cut to years later where I played the heck out of Sims 2 and then Sims 3 was mind blowing because of the open neighborhood concept. That is when it didn't absolutely collapse in on itself because of the open neighborhoods lol.
I LOVED THE WHOLE MAGIC REALM in Sims 1, omg, it was my fave thing. The atmosphere of it was just--mwah! Also you could marry the magic townies into your families in the "normal world", if you didn't like the selection of muggle NPCs. My mom had this whole self-imposed challenge about meeting and befriending as many of the "Strange" folk as possible (that was their given last name). I used to have Cassandra pop down the portable hole for something to do when she was bored and her folks were asleep. Ah, memories. :)
I’ve been playing the sims 1 recently, and it is fun playing it. Pretty nostalgic, especially social interactions, grabbing a newspaper to get a job, and bonehilda. 💚
Getting someone to marry you is SO tough in this game you basically need to ask them the second you see them and not give them chance to be unhappy for ANY slight reason 😂 I remember trying to cheat it using genie lamps
My friend had Sims 1 and I played at her house a few times. I was so fascinated that you could make whoever you want and do whatever you want! I bought the Sims 2 Deluxe Edition in like 2006 or 2007 with some birthday money. I would turn down the game music all the way and listen to the Jonas Brothers CD on repeat while I played 😅
Building, and especially maintaining, friendships in the Sims 1 was an absolute nightmare grind, made worse by the fact that literally EVERY SINGLE CAREER required a certain number of family friends in order to get promotions, to the point where having the higher level of a career meant coming home from work, getting your needs up as quickly as possible, and then spending the entire rest of your day calling people over to keep your friendships at the correct levels to maintain your career level before going to sleep and doing it all again the next day.
Ahhhh yeah, the worst mistake I made with my very first character way back was I only gave her two points in outgoing - which limited the choices even more. Sufficiently tired she refused to even offer a talk option. And since she was single there wasn't a stay at home partner to do all the friend gathering for her work either. It took forever to get her to the top of the police job. (And then I accidentally got her fired when I moved houses with her and her carpool ride just didn't arrive that morning, so she'd missed two days work. Automatic end of career then.) Good times. :|
Friendships alone were sooo much harder in the Sims let alone relationships. I did find though that if my sims needs were higher the better they got along and of course not rushing into romantic interactions. This game and sims 2 were exhausting. But they still hold a special place in my heart ♥️ 😅
ohhh I can clearly remember my first experience with Sims... summer holiday at lake Balaton (I'm Hungarian) with my cousins...they showed it to me.... and I don't know how old I was - probably really young - because my older cousin had to type in 'rosebud' in every time I ran out of money because I couldn't even memorise that one word :DDDD
The expansion pack Makin Magic allowed any family the option to have magic- so that guy would come to any house when you load in a household to be able to utilize the new pack with whatever family you wanted 🙂
I have started playing the sims 4, recently...one thing I don't understand is why we can't play our own music through the in game stereos? We used to be able to do that in Sims 1. My husband would play and always have Disturbed playing and watched them while they danced. Why didn't they implement that into the Sims 4, seems like a very easy thing to do.
Hahaha This brings back memories of playing this when it first came out. My cousin and I would make our celeb crushes and try to get married. It was SO HARD to make romantic relationships and keep your sim happy.
I used to put up single wall panels at the corners of my lot to put burglar alarms on in Sims 1 because if you put the alarm inside, the burglar will steal your stuff before the cops get there.
Oooo babies are so difficult in the sims... I’m enjoying you exploring this. I too was just a child when I played. All babies I adopted were taken straight away! And to find a job you have to read the newspaper and only a few jobs pop up each day!
Each iteration of the Sims is unique and to have fun with them you have to play them on their own terms. It's a reason the 100 Baby Challenge didn't become a thing until Sims 4 and the first legacy challenges started with Sims 2, each game has its strengths and weaknesses. The problem you were having with Eldan was that his motives weren't met. I didn't play the first Sims a lot but I found romances worked best when the two sims lived together and you could make sure all their needs were high. If not you have to pay attention to their thought bubbles to see their needs.
I loved the magic on the Sims, you can actually collect stuff to do magic with, but one of my favorite Sims game was CASTAWAY I would loooove to watch you playing that one, you are on a island and need to learn to fish, gather resources to build a shelter and learn how to make your clothes and food.... its so cool, I would love a updated version of this, I think was only for Playstation
I remember going over to a friends house and we'd take turns playing because my parents wouldn't let me have it, specifically because of the "adult" stuff and the sheer amount of space it took up on the computer lol
My first one was "The Sims" for PS2. It had more of a story you play through and was super fun to play with my sister. It also became an instant obsession and I've been playing the Sims in its many forms since 2001. I never played "Sims 1" though.
The Sims 1 was my intro to video games at 18 years old lol. I remember there wasn't woohoo, the Sims just kissed until a pop up asks if you want to have a baby and the bassinet appears! It was cool to see the making magic content, since I skipped that pack knowing Sims 2 was coming out and I wasn't really into magic then.
I have so many memories playing Sims 1. I'm 37 now i was 13/14 when i started playing. I remember staying up all night on the weekends. Sneaking into our computer room late at night to play lol . Can't believe its be that long. wow!
This is what I been missing in all the Sims games number 2, 3 and 4. The dragons from the Sims 1!. Per se the whole magic interactions decor and all from the Sims 1 I been missing. It was amazing!. I wish there was an expansion game or so as similar as magic in Sims 1 with all those interactions and more.
I remember needing 3 family friends, 5 family friends, etc. to get promotions in the Sims 1 and it was the absolute WORST getting those and keeping them up. Me and my siblings started only pursuing job tracks that didn't need many friends (or just gave up on earning promotions). Losing it over the vibrating bed though lol, I don't think we ever got that one.
The newspaper was more fun than the cell phones in the new game ngl 🤷🏽♀️ the sims 4 definitely lost some of the magic of the sims franchise when they tried being overly realistic. Part of what made the sims the sims is the goofiness. The random weird but in depth things the sims did in previous games is something I truly miss
Oh my God. This is bringing back so many memories!!!! Like Sims 4 pls bring back astrology. Also the picture-in-picture is kinda slay and like so useful? Instead of the game panning to a scene just show me a lil snippet
Kelsey, Sims 1 and Sims 2 have diminishing returns on the same interactions. You can't just spam! Adding to all the comments here about how the kids never grow up... there actually *is* a way to turn a child into an adult in The Sims 1. It's a Charm called "Age of Instant," which child Sims can make out of two Dragon Scales and one Toadstools. *However,* if the child's grades or Hunger need are too low, the charm will turn them into a baby instead. Casting it also automatically saves the game, so there's no reverting back to before the disaster if it goes wrong.
This was my introduction to the Sims!!! I have been playing since the first sims when they came on CD’s and I had everyone😊 before you could have kids and it was just supposed to be a build and play game no story lines or anything! It was so basic and had mini games on the upload screen😊
I love this! Im binge wat hing your sims playing video's for a few weeka right now and i loooove it. Even though i never played sims 4! (or 3 of 5, btw). I played the sims 1 soo much when i was a teen (i was 10 when it was released) and im pretty sure ive played 2 Also. So im exited about this video!
it was so fun watching you struggle like this... oh the memories. I was 18 and I bought all the extensions. I've spent so many hours on this game lol the vibrating bed, i forgot about that. it needs to come back on the sims 4
I have a vague memory of wohoo working like this: You make the bed vibrate, THEN you can wohoo, either by clicking the bed again or clicking the other sim. I think it worked like that at least
sims 1 came out on my third birthday, so i never actually played it. but i have a distinct memory of my family going over to my dad's friend's house when i was a little older, and this friend's kids were like 5-10 years older than me, and they took me to their super sweet basement computer setup and played sims while i just watched fascinated with no idea what was going on but it just looked SO cool. but because of the T rating my mom wouldn't let me and my sister get it. wasn't til like middle school that she finally let us get sims 2, which wasn't brand new then but was still the newest game. loved that so much. i do kind of wonder what it would feel like to actually play sims 1 tho, cuz i've still only ever watched, even like with this video lol. i just wanna know if i could handle the chaos or not
This makes me feel very old because The Sims 1 came out when I was 11. My friend got it and was showing it to me. I was hooked and begged my parents for it. The Sims 1 was my first sims game but I’ve played every version including Medieval, Free Play and online. I’m now in my mid-thirties and my family is shocked I’m still playing this game 😂
OMG, I thought I had forgotten Sims 1, but this brought back so many memories!!! I want to play again! I think that the magic expansion pack in that one is still my favorite! And the newspapers... sigh...
😂 This brought back so many memories. Especially the vibration function, which just means massage. I also totally forgot about the fact that baby just appears after a time.
If memory serves me, you had to let the short-term relationship points feed into the long-term relationship. It would help to let the other sim leave for a bit. This could also cause the friendship status to be lost because your short term points dropped below the threshold
Watching you play The Sims is the cutest. I loved when you tried using new sims cheats and not the original ones. This game gives me so much nostalgia, how did you get the program to play? I'd love to play it again.
This is why most simmers have such high expectations for the current game and how money hungry they have become 🤧 I remember playing this at night all the time at my aunts house. I would play until the sun came up in the summer time. This is the route of my clown phobia 😭 the sad clown would run after my sim crying and it was so dark in the room except for the computer light 💀 I’m 25 now and still scared of them lol. Thanks for this video bringing back some good memories 🥹🤍
Sims 1 was hard 😂 I love the random doom phone call of “I’m coming for you” and I remember when multitasking interactions became a thing and it was such an upgrade
The amount of hours I spent in Sims 1 and Sims 2 as a child was insane. I’m now almost 30 and I listen the music soundtracks at work because they’re so calming and nostalgic
Thank God! I thought I was the only one who played sims 1 soundtracks at work 😂 hot date soundtracks are my favorite

100 baby challenge? I don’t think the kids ever age up in this one 🤣😅
They can with Makin' Magic. But in order to do a 100 baby, she'd have to get married (and widowed) 100x. Marriage is HARD.
No they do but they age up to an adult 😂
I started playing the Sims 1 when it first came out in 2000. A co-worker showed it to me and I was hooked from the start. Hard to believe that I have been playing this game for 23 years
“Not the cat I thought he’d be petting tonight.” 😂
I loved the Sims OG, spent so much time with it back in the day, had all the expansions, that were lost to time sadly
I checked - Its on the Internet Archive available for download.
I was a teen when Sims 1 came out, and I spent hours playing it! I've been a fan of every Sims version, but I haven't seen it in action for years!
Kelsey is the perfect mix of childfriendly and an amazing sense of humor
I think this is a brilliant video idea, as someone who was a toddler when sims 1 came out, I would love to get a copy and try this out one day! ❤
The medieval one.
kelsey: I'm gonna make chelsey get pregnant
me: oh sweet summer child
Stop, Kelsey, stop! I can’t stop giggling and I’m at work and people are gonna think I’m crazy but Chelsea and the vibrating bed and Bella …. OMG frickin hysterical!!!! 😂 you’re the best!
The amount of times my jaw dropped during this video was insane 😂
Thanks for sharing the Sims 1!
Unless the go to military school... then they are just gone
The key to relationships in Sims one is variety of interactions. You can't spam the same ones over and over like in Sim 4.
Love this! I remember this well, I was 10 when The Sims came out and was instantly hooked, I've been playing ever since 💚
I definitely played Sims 1 when it first came out and this brought back so many memories!
This is so funny to me, I played the Sims 1 for years as a child and jumped all the way to Sims 4 as an adult a couple years ago!
This Video unlocks soo many memories. I loved this game so much. Thank you Kelsey for this Video!
The rollercoasters and carnival 🎡 is actually such an amazing idea. No wonder sims 1 players want this in sims 4 😂
You wouldn’t be able to do the 100 baby challenge in Sims 1 because the children do not age past childhood. They just stay in your house forever.
You can always tank their grades by letting them skip school, and eventually they'll be sent to military school, never to be seen again 😄
😮😮😮 I would love to play sims 1 again sometime I totally don’t remember it as much as I thought I would
The aesthetic and the soundtrack and the humor of Sims 1 is something I would do anything to bring back.
Automatic end of career then.)
Good times.
It was a different time. Continuous kissing then all a sudden you have a baby 😂
Hot Date was the best pack
Hahaha This brings back memories of playing this when it first came out. My cousin and I would make our celeb crushes and try to get married. It was SO HARD to make romantic relationships and keep your sim happy.
Blast from the past!!🎉 I forgot about all the cool lots they had back then like the roller coaster and the magic realm❤
I used to put up single wall panels at the corners of my lot to put burglar alarms on in Sims 1 because if you put the alarm inside, the burglar will steal your stuff before the cops get there.
One alarm over an entrance door from the outside is absolutely enough - it starts ringing as soon as burglar enters the lot )))
Sims 1 is the best Sims game made because it was actually challenging and had some storyline to it.
I would play the sims 1 so hard!! My neighbor had the game on CD so I’d borrow it from her all the time!
How would you play the Sims professionally?
Getting houses or professions the fastest?
Or just making fun commentary?
I loved the magic on the Sims, you can actually collect stuff to do magic with, but one of my favorite Sims game was CASTAWAY
I would loooove to watch you playing that one, you are on a island and need to learn to fish, gather resources to build a shelter and learn how to make your clothes and food.... its so cool, I would love a updated version of this, I think was only for Playstation
I have been waiting for this video forever
Also I wasn’t even born when the sims 1 came out
The Sims 1 was my intro to video games at 18 years old lol.
I started on Xbox 😊 with The Sims Bustin Out & The Sims 2. Absolutely the best. 💕
Sims 2 and 3 gameplay was my favorite tho. But the sims 4 is the easiest to use and is beautiful I’ll say that
As awesome as The Sims was, it was also frustratingly hard sometimes. 😂
Oh my God. This is bringing back so many memories!!!! Like Sims 4 pls bring back astrology. Also the picture-in-picture is kinda slay and like so useful? Instead of the game panning to a scene just show me a lil snippet
How nostalgic, I learnt how to do ctrl+c and ctrl+v to do the Sims 1 money cheats faster
Oh my god. I was laughing through this whole video. So funny and fun!
Luv u so much Kelsey u should do the Disney Princess challenge 👑
I have a vague memory of wohoo working like this: You make the bed vibrate, THEN you can wohoo, either by clicking the bed again or clicking the other sim. I think it worked like that at least
sims 1 came out on my third birthday, so i never actually played it. but i have a distinct memory of my family going over to my dad's friend's house when i was a little older, and this friend's kids were like 5-10 years older than me, and they took me to their super sweet basement computer setup and played sims while i just watched fascinated with no idea what was going on but it just looked SO cool. but because of the T rating my mom wouldn't let me and my sister get it. wasn't til like middle school that she finally let us get sims 2, which wasn't brand new then but was still the newest game. loved that so much. i do kind of wonder what it would feel like to actually play sims 1 tho, cuz i've still only ever watched, even like with this video lol. i just wanna know if i could handle the chaos or not
sims 1 got the 80/90s vibe, sims 2 got the millennium vibe
I started playing this when it first came out. Addicted from the start
I loveee your chaotic energy so much!!!❤
OMG, I thought I had forgotten Sims 1, but this brought back so many memories!!! I want to play again! I think that the magic expansion pack in that one is still my favorite! And the newspapers... sigh...
I wish they would make a 💯% true remake of sims 1. It would be amazing ❤
Omg there's so much nostalgia in this video for me! I played SOOOOO many hours of the Sims 1!
😂 This brought back so many memories. Especially the vibration function, which just means massage. I also totally forgot about the fact that baby just appears after a time.
Because of Making Magic, the Goth always and will be forever spell casters... they are so mysterious, it was perfect for them!
My sister's and I had the whole Sims 1 series and we use to play together 😊 then we had Sims 2. Now I play Sims 4 and love every minute ❤️
Omg this brought back so much nostalgia😂 this game was lit back in the day! Poor Kelsey, you were probably so annoyed lol
Man this takes me back! I haven't played the Sims 1 since elementary school so a good 20 or so years ago!
This takes me back. I forgot it didn't originally have the heart bed
1960's was an interesting time indeed, I was 9 years old in 1969 and have a lot of fond memories of the music and television shows of the time.
Kelsey you should continue playing this I wanna see how far you'll get.
