this poor house 😭 the bad ea builds honestly make me kinda sad. like we know the sims team are rushed and overworked and understaffed, and seeing a house from all the way back in 2014 having mismatched windows, knowing how rushed the sims 4's release was, it makes me feel bad for whoever was rushing to finish willow creek 😭😭😭
Part of me feels like mis-matched windows actually would’ve taken MORE work lmao? I sometimes will do quick renos of townie homes and it would’ve been so much quicker to just use the eyedrop tool lol!!
@@sophiag612 they were mismatched by height not style so I guess they clicked the wrong spot while they were placing them. It would have been funny if they were totally different windows tho 😂 I wouldn't put it past them to either cuz like, we know how badly mismatched the swatches are lmao
I feel like the developers do things like not level the windows on purpose to prompt players to enter build mode and interact more with the game...or maybe it's just a gross oversight. On a side note, after watching your party pack video I bought the pack and made an epic sunken pirate ship with a dungeon and used the hidden fog machines. Snaps for the ambiance.
Yeah I remember playing the sims on the ps2 and a huge part of the game play was improving the houses with cleaning tasks to progress through the game.
Low key always thought they did these kind of things to teach you how to play the game. Missing a toilet? Well you need one, so you might as well figure out how you add one. Weird window? Learn how to move it, etc etc etc.
I'm pretty sure that's the purpose behind making simple builds (not broken) builds. if the house is overly simple, placing a rug feels like an accomplishment lol
I’ve heard other people confirm that is a game design tactic! Someone else in this comment section noted that it’s comparable to giving people a prompt or push to start drawing on an otherwise intimidatingly blank canvas.
As a brand new player myself i actually love it, i get excited at slowly renovating and fixing over time and seeing how different it is, i haven't gone to a second generation yet though but it's a plan :D
I remember watching the first renovation of this house (I think I was in middle school at the time???? I'm in college now, so it's been a hot minute) but hearing Kayla complain about the uneven windows again brings me a sense of nostalgia
kayla, my dear, I hate seeing you suffer like that, so here's a little thing I do: put an alarm every couple minutes to remind you to save the game. It helped me so much before I bought a better computer. I started setting it to buzz every 5 minutes but it was SO bad I had to change it to buzz every 3 minutes. When I bought my new computer it became so much better, but it still crashed. So another tip for non-content creators: lower literally EVERY video screen setup on your game settings to minimum, it will be uglier and you won't be able to see much from afar, but it will be also not stressful to play. My game literally never crashed again after I changed the settings. Hope this helps my fellow simmers ❤❤
a bit off topic, but i think sometimes you should try something different from the floor plan you usually do. for example, everytime you can fit 2+ bedrooms you turn them into a kids/teen bedroom, but you could also make them music rooms, art studios, candle makers spaces, little cinemas, laundry room etc... i think sometimes making more houses with these different, but useful spaces could be really cool!!!
Omg the way i ran to this when i saw the thumbnail!!! I HATE this house. I have tried renovating this so many times. One was really good. I made it like an NOLA house with a room in the back for a crystal ball, etc. It was cute but it took me ages because i hate the house.
okay but I love both versions lmao yeah, objectively you can v2 is better than v1 when it comes to more rooms and etc, but I like the size of the bedrooms on v1 more (and the living room having the sofa turned to both the TV and the fireplace was nice)
I honestly wish you could set tables (or i guess chairs) to be for specific food just like how you can set sinks to be kitchen/bathroom/both. You coukd make a breakfastnook and make it for breakfast only, a dining table for dinner only, couch for takeout only, outdoor seats for grilled food. Added points if you can get an option for seasons to se the outdoor table to be the main table to eat at for every dinner in summer. That will never happen and it would probs a a pain in the ass to set all of the chairs for specific use but ohhh i would love it
if you have parenthood you can set the table and the sims prefer the set table over the unset table so you could probably be able to use that in some way
piggy banks in toddler rooms isn’t weird! we have some in my nieces rooms too & when it gets a lot in it we go deposit into her bank account her mom has set up for her to use for a first car or college or stuff like that!
Really love the newer layout. Tho I have used bedrooms to split up spaces before especially in some of the larger skinnier apartments and it can be pretty useful
I like both your versions. I have been trying to "fix" this house for ages. I really hate the look of the roof that covers the first floor, so I extended the second floor to get rid of it. The house is too big now, but at least it looks better from the outside. 😅

Having double stairs makes the lot look like it is a duplex--it also could be that now that we have the rent pack.

Fr a lot of the base game yellow swatches are so unfortunate. They’re kinda cool toned so leaning toward green and that makes them look too close to toilet tone yellow to me, and my artist brain weeps lol. Your version with the yellow combos was a big improvement! I feel like it’s tough to find good yellow combos sometimes but this turned out lovely 😊
I too am a base game only player. I only downloaded it recently as a recommendation from my younger sister. I have also been redoing the base game houses. I am now on Newcrest. The thing is: I have downloaded houses because I am not good at making them myself. For Newcrest, I recently added a cafe towards the back of the land space.
You'll start to get a better feel for building. At the start (I haven't been playing very long either), building felt incredibly complicated. Since my favorite thing to do is decorate, I kind of dipped a toe in by moving around/removing walls in existing houses, getting a feel for things, before jumping into decorating. Once I felt comfortable enough with that, I moved onto things like single room studio spaces in the backyard to work on platforms, roofing, etc. I just did my first from scratch property the other day and it's probably not the most amazing thing, but I'm so proud lol. You'll get there!
I haven’t watched the video yet but I’m glad you’re redoing that one cause one of my sims lives there and 😭 he isn’t the heir so I don’t play with him, it’s just the fact that it’s so.. dark (lighting) w/only 2 bedrooms & wasted space
I've actually renovated this house multiple times in my legacy save with a sim in the dreamhome decorator career, mostly because I felt bad that the family who lived there had three kids with nowhere for them to sleep or play 😅
nice but "clutter" is painful when it's everywhere. I live in a cluttered apartment. in the sims i live in a 2 story giant house with 4 rooms. clutter can be delightful. I'd add a skylight there's a tutorial up. I disagree with making the house smaller, you probably did that because of your cluttered mindset (it enables creativity i guess but the visual density of decor doesn't necessarily create homeliness (ick word sorry)). this video inspired me to change my roofing and probably gave me aesthetic inspiration as well (i'm weary of being influenced these days, i would do well to learn more from you) you're really good at this decorating / design.
i used this house for my favourite household I always play with. renovated it to look amazing over time only for it to break and I had to place a different house on the lot bc even when I moved the house to a different lot my sims still refused to use anything in the house. it was so heartbreaking bc I was so attached it since I spent so much time on it and it was my favourite played household lot. rip my personal riverside roost😔😔

I disagree with making the house smaller, you probably did that because of your cluttered mindset (it enables creativity i guess but the visual density of decor doesn't necessarily create homeliness (ick word sorry)). this video inspired me to change my roofing and probably gave me aesthetic inspiration as well (i'm weary of being influenced these days, i would do well to learn more from you)
you're really good at this decorating / design.
i used this house for my favourite household I always play with. renovated it to look amazing over time only for it to break and I had to place a different house on the lot bc even when I moved the house to a different lot my sims still refused to use anything in the house. it was so heartbreaking bc I was so attached it since I spent so much time on it and it was my favourite played household lot. rip my personal riverside roost😔😔
Definitely liked the version made in this video better - though they are both really cute 🫶🏻🩷
so close to 2M !! congrats!
Almost 2 MILLION subs Simsie!!!
I did not realize that house had a yellow color on the outside🤣
“I didn’t make a big deal about it because I’m trying to be calm” so real😭
This house could so easily be renovated to make apartments
Almost to 2 million! 🎉
