I pray Hyundai/Kia keep up with quality and price so Toyota and Honda feel the competition. It's a win for the consumer.

I've got a 2020 Sorento, 60,000 miles, and I love it. It's been a great vehicle.
The Sorento is actually about the size of the highlander
That is what I was thinking. This is a whole size up from the rav4z
The higlander is more than a foot longer and 3 inches wider than the Sorento. The Rav4 is only 7" smaller than the Sorento. The Sorento is closer in volume to the RAV4 than it is a Highlander by quite a bit.
@@umbraviventem You are correct but it's still not a Rav4 competitor. It's the same length as the Toyota 4Runner and the rest of the mid-sized SUVs.
No the telluride actually
Gabriel Calderon Even considering that, Highlander is considered the same class as the Sorento. Kia Sportage is in the class of the RAV4.
Just like the Honda Pilot’s competitor is the Highlander even though it’s noticeable bigger.
I've had 3 Hyundais go over 200k with no drama. My wife just got a brand new Santa Fe for $6k under MSRP. Like you said, Toyota wouldn't budge on price. We're very satisfied with Hyundai/Kia overall.
They are good vehicles for the money definitly not as good as Honda or Toyota but then again you get what you pay for. For a lot of people like yourself the 6k extra is not worth it. A Sorento is more comparable to a Highlander than a RAV4. The Sportage is what is comparable to a RAV4.
Collin Beard that’s what I was gonna say. Sorento is definitely bigger than a RAV4
Sorento is 7 seaters while Rav 4 is 5 seaters so, obviously the first one is bigger.
the sorento is 7" longer than a Rav4, literally an irrelevant amount. If anything all that does is tell you that the Rav4 has a lot more comfort and cargo room for those 5 people than the sorento has for the 7. Bringing size into this is only proving the Rav4 is better than the sorento.
@Hentai is healthy it's 7" longer, that is barely giant. There are much bigger SUVs
@@suyesuay9813 That's not true at all, just because one has more seats doesn't mean it is comparably bigger. The sorento has 7" on a Rav4, that should tell you that the sorento has a lot less room for the 7 people.

Scotty, isn’t a Sportage KIA’s answer to the RAV4 and a Sorrento KIA’s answer to the Highlander?
I was going to make the same comment. The Highlander would cost way more and the difference in gas mileage is due to the fact that this is not the correct comparison vehicle to the Rav 4.
yea the sorento is quite a bit bigger. i dont even fit in a rav4 lol.
Correct, Scotty needs to get it straight.
Correct
I believe the sorentos a 5 seater like the rav 4 and the highlanders a 8 seater like the new palasade ?
Regarding gas mileage: _You can't have the ponies, if you don't feed them._
U can if u have electric power
But low autonomy
It’s the weight... not entirely the power.
FWD has better mileage than RWD.... but both are way ahead of AWD’s higher drag issues.
KIA and Hyundai make heavy cars and SUV’s... that alone is a loose loose because they will be horrible to drive at higher gas costs. But increasing power... eww...
but they are cheaper lol
Alterate Awful sure, but even with electric power a lighter vehicle will have bigger autonomy than a heavier one.
Plus better performance if same motors are used.
The one thing he didn't point out was that the Rav4 also uses a CVT and the Kia doesn't which would be a difference in MPG.
My 700 ponies agree
Scotty’s issue is that he often makes invalid comparisons. Those sorentos compete in the midsize suv class much more comparable to a highlander or 4Runner in size. That is why things such as gas mileage would be worse in the sorento. A proper comparison to the RAV4, which is a compact crossover, would be the Kia Sportage.
Not really a fair comparison, Scotty. The Sorento competes with the Highlander so it is way cheaper than the Toyota equivalent
Maithem Mahdi yea it does look a little bigger

Thanks for your review Scotty. I would like to clarify some points here. A 2016 Kia Sorrento with 290hp was meant to compete with the Toyota Highlander, but was priced to compete with a base level Toyota RAV-4 which has 195hp. In 2020, a used 2016 Kia Sorrento LX will cost 66% the price of a used 2016 Toyota RAV4 with the same mileage, while giving you 95hp more power, a larger more upscale interior cabin, modern electronic conveniences such as Android and Apple Play which the Toyotas do not offer, as well as more cargo and towing capacity.
I would love to see you do a review of the Kia Telluride, the Genesis G70 and the Genesis GV80 in the future. Thanks Scotty, and keep up the good work.

What surprises me is that the my 2020 Sorento with the V-6 gets better gas mileage than my wife's 2018 RAV4. I love the RAV4 but Toyota pissed me off when they discontinued the V-6 and only offer 4-bangers now. As for gas mileage, wifey's RAV averages about 23 MPG when running my usual mix of highway driving and city. My Sorento in that same regime gets right around 25. On a road trip where I'm running mostly 80-85 on the interstate with cruise-control on, my Sorento gets 28-30 MPG and long as I'm not running into a terrible head-wind or doing crazy hills. I'm a Sorento fan now.

Damn, that is good. That gas mileage is right in line with my first car, the 1990 Honda Civic 4-door sedan. And I guarantee you that Civic is a lot more gutless. I was in the Navy at the time, so I just needed something to get me around town and to/from work. Civic was great for reliability, loved the gas mileage, but it was gutless and needed a couple more gears, the 5-speed revved like it was ready to explode if you ever got it up to 75 MPH. That car didn't have a tac, so I don't know how high it was revving, but it didn't sound good.
Kia Sorento is much lager! Midsize SUV for 5 to 7 passengers and higher towing capacity and much more features on higher trims! Rav4 is a compact and 5 passenger only with limited features!

I'll take a Rav4 any day over that Kia. I don't care if the Kia is bigger.
The biggest detractor from Toyota (that caused me to stop buying them) is the huge difference between base models. What you get in a "base" Hyundai or Kia is way more than in a "base" Toyota. Toyota has stepped up alittle bit but you used to have to buy an upper end model just to get an auxiliary plug or USB.
The Sorento with the V-6 that I got sure came more at a low-trim level than I would've gotten with Toyota. I noticed over the years that they started cheaping-out on features, the most annoying being charging points (USB and 12-volt "cigarette-lighter" outlets). It's sad that my wife's 2009 RAV4 had a better layout and more charging points than her 2018 top trim-level RAV4. My Sorento, at a medium trim-level, has more charging points than the decked-out RAV4.

No you don't. Look up the volumes of both cars, you get a lot more space in a RAV4 than you do in a Sorento. In fact the Sorento is only 7" longer but has 37.3 cubic feet less of space for passengers. The sorento is cramped, you might be getting more seats but you are getting less comfort. The RAV4 can fit a third row of seats a lot more comfortably than the Sorento does.

That's not how it works? Why give longer warranty if your crap won't last as long? People will stay away if it craps out that much. No amount of warranty is worth countless days in the shop.
@@BlueNinjakoopa553
Offer it is one thing, honoring is another, as with any warranty services. You have to convince them that it should be covered by them. But you're probably right, offering such a long warranty would entice more people to buy it. However, word of mouth also goes a long way. Hence why there's still some stigma associated with these Korean cars. That is also changing though, from what I see. No amount of warranty will make me buy a fiat/Chrysler, dodge, jeep, etc.
As an Actually Kia Tech I can tell you now that the reason why there is a 10k warranty is not because they fail a lot, it’s because back in the day in order to get sales When they did fail constitutionally ( 90’s) that was the only way to get sales and it just stuck with the brand it’s what they are known for. There are days where cars don’t even come in for more than just oil changed because they are really reliable cars now.

Rav 4 is a sub compact cuv and sorrento is a mid size cuv. Mpg and pricing, you would wanna compare it to high lander, not the rav 4!
jerry chung rav4 is a compact not sub. Sorento is also compact. The sorento is a compact midsize just like a rav4 . All compact SUV’s have only 2 row seats. The sorento is the only one that had a 3rd row. A sub compact is a a vehicle like a new 2021 Kia Seltos and the Toyota C-HR
@@queenhoe9006 Correct on the Rav4 but the Sorento is a mid-sized, like the 4Runner. The highlander is a full sized SUV.
@jerry chung You’re right, it’s an unfair comparison, with all due respect to Scotty. The Rav4 is a
compact CUV though (more comparable to the Sportage), not a subcompact.

Two questions:
1. I understand the tradeoff between fuel economy versus horsepower/acceleration, but is there also a tradeoff between engine longevity and horsepower (all else being equal)?
2. How does a weak battery damage the alternator?
The price difference doesn’t make it worth the difference in quality.

There is also another video on RUclips where a mans brand new Kia sorento just a few weeks later goes on fire on a highway. Toyota is still better than kia and hyundai in reliability.
Note on this Kia, the spare tire is on the underside of the vehicle and isn’t inside the trunk like the Toyota Rav 4 is! The Kia spare tire isn’t protected from the weather... snow/salt etc! Absolutely. I've just added a detailed comment that supports what you say. Please see.
It amazes me how clean and rust free the cars are in Houston. The ones here in Chicago are completely rusted through, even some 2010 cars 😥😥😥
Makers could prevent the rot by electro galvanizing every steel body part. That would raise manufacturing costs, though. Maybe Toyota already does it.
@@stephenarling1667 Absolutely by all means. What ultimately destroys the vehicles up here is the ultra corrosive road salt. Your vehicle would have to be made out of aluminum and carbon fiber to survive

Kia gone a long way since the early 2000’s
I had a 1997 Kia Sephia, back then they were owned by Ford/Mazda and shared the engine with the Miata, I loved it, owned it for 8 years and only sold it because I moved to Florida and it was too expensive to ship here, bought a 2001 Kia Spectra (Hyundai tech) when I moved here, wasn't too impressed. So they went from being great, to mediocre and back to great.
Since I have a KIA, the answer is YES
My 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe gets 19 city and 27 hwy mpg, with a 275 hp V-6, 85,000 miles no problems, trans works great, but I change the fluid.

Wow. Glad your wife was alright.
I know this is just anecdotal but I got my wife a used 2009 Genesis (3.6L V6) and my business partner got the same model used 2015 Genesis with same motor. We've put 75k miles (100k total) on the '09 and 50k (90k total) on the '15 and only issue with either was back right door lock actuator failed on the '09. Got them for a BUNCH less than equally equipped Lexus models and have been really pleased with them. Only thing I've not loved is the dealers aren't as good as the Toyota/Ford/GM dealer networks we've worked with.
Well one other issue I forgot to mention, we live in the East Texas boonies and a pack rat chewed wire harness up on the '09, not the cars fault tho.
The Sportage is the competitor of the Rav4, the Sorento compared to the Highlander/4runner.
I hope scotty sees this. The sportage is probably much cheaper than the rav4
@@Just_In_credible6 indeed it is.
Look up the car sizes and volumes, the RAV4 while slightly (7") shorter than the Sorento, it actually has a lot more internal space to work with than the Sorento.
Scotty, 2 weeks ago, I bought 2016 Acura RDX AWD base model over the same year RAV4 XLE AWD with 60k km (42k miles). Price was the same +/- $500. In case of Rav4 SE I think Toyota was more expensive especially with less mileage. Drove both and Acura blows RAV4 pretty much on everything but gas mileage and obviously on resell value of Toyota same as Lexus is highest in the business. On one of your videos I remembered you said that 2016 RDX is a great reliable suv. The base trim RDX AWD ( In Canada Acura doesn't sell 2WD SUVs) is very nicely equipped with powerful reliable Honda V6 engine and 6 speed AT, safety options normally found on upper trims cars like collision mitigation and line keep assist, adoptive cruise, plus sunroof, power lift gate to name a few. The ride quality in 2016 RDX is superior to 2016 RAV4, the difference is huge, most noticeable Acura smoothness, v6 acceleration and quiet ride. I highly recommend to anyone looking at used RAV4 and this Kia upper trims to check out base RDX AWD. 91 octane is recommended, but not required and its ok to use mid-grade 89. I know people running on regular gas too without any problems like valve pinging noise but I don't use regular gas. I fill mine with 91 for now, but if gas gets super expensive i will switch to 89. Most viewers here are from US and gas there is super cheap, in Canada they added stupid carbon tax in 2019 on gasoline and heating electricity bills to screw us with another money grab tax. On the highway RDX is switching off 3 cylinders just like Honda Pilot and Odyssey to save fuel and increase mileage which equal to 4 cylinder smaller SUVs, yesterday I drove on highway with avg. only 8.5l/100km which is about 33 mpg, remember this is v6 3.5L with 279HP, not bad. Ok, you probably think maintenance cost, the price of rotors and brake pads is the same as Honda, oil 0w20 synthetic same as Odyssey and Pilot same engine. I am very happy with my choice and I'm glad i didn't go with bumpy and noisy ride RAV4, that's all. I just wish i had heated seats in the back for cold @ss Canadian winters but for that one has to step up to technology trim for about $3-4k+tax more I believe the best value is in the Acura base trims, and that applies to new 2020 model as well. All new ones 2019-20 come with bad @ss panoramic roof and high tech looking interior. Something to look up forward to in the future.

When new three years ago, my fully-loaded model sold for around $45k (whoever bought it new checked off every freaking box on the option list, including the dealer-installed vent visors). I picked it up for just $20k with 30,000 miles on the clock. I have to say, I absolutely LOVE this vehicle. Being a Hyundai-certified pre-owned vehicle, it included the balance of the 10/100k factory powertrain warranty. I cross-shopped Toyota Rav-4s, but they were a bit smaller, and I didn't like the ride quality.
I bought my 2019 Kia Optima S back in July. Absolutely love mine! Been getting upwards to 40 mpg and very quick too!
Kia has come a long way; this is Scotty trying not to admit that.
And for the record, I've never owned anything from either company. Just watching the show.
I like Scotty but this is actually true
I own a 2014 Kia Sorento 4 cylinder. Bought it used at 60k three years ago. Now it has just over 110k. Had no major issues on it. Had that engine recall done that the 2014's were targeted and mine passed inspection and I got a lifetime engine warranty as a bonus. Kia takes care of their cars. I mean who else would give a lifetime engine warranty on their cars? I had a rear speed sensor go out and Kia took care of that also for free. Other than that I had no other issues. I change my oil every 10k-12k miles using Royal Purple. Already changed my spark plugs because they are right in front and easy to get to. This spring I'm going to change all four brake pads in my driveway because it's so easy on these cars. Going to get new tires this spring as well. Hell, I still have the factory battery in it. Starts right up every single time even in below freezing here in Ohio. I put a can of gas cleaner in every 5k miles because GDI engines are notorious for getting dirty cylinders. I even drive in ECO mode full time because if I don't, the engine has too much power and I basically launch off a green light which I hate. So I'm saving a little gas and getting better response from it.
I owned a 2010 Kia Soul that I bought new in 2009. One of the best cars I ever owned. No issues what-so-ever. Had the 100k warranty that I didn't even use. Drove it for 140k miles before the wife totaled it on the highway crashing into the center wall on a rainy day. No one was hurt. All airbags went off. My wife and kids walked away from it and the car saved their lives. By the way the Soul had its original battery in it also which I was shocked it lasted so long. She totaled it in 2017 so it went eight years on the factory battery. Insurance inspector gave me $7000 for the car since it was totaled. I was shocked at how much it kept its value. 140k miles and an eight year old car still worth that much. I took the check and bought the Sorento.
My 2011 Kia soul is a trooper for what it's been through it's no Honda but not bad for 170000 miles
