Scotty Kilmer Hey Scotty. Good video! I have a 2004 and a 2009 Pontiac Vibe, with the Toyota Matrix engines. What’s your opinion on the Vibes?
@@GodofWarChuka their good cars, 90% the same as the matrix so you're good to go
i’m looking at a 2017 volkswagen jetta sport with the turbo charged engine and automatic transmission, it has 32,000 miles and cost $9,900. is this a good buy?
MR2 or Miata for a beginner but fun project car? - How do you feel about MR2's?
I pray Hyundai/Kia keep up with quality and price so Toyota and Honda feel the competition. It's a win for the consumer.
ChArLz In ChArGe even mazda is starting to catch up, their producing their own transmission as well
Logan Mazda is better then Honda at tht moment
I have these 2 friends. 1 owns a Hyundai, I believe a 2014 or so and the other owns a 2015 Kia Optima Turbo and they both love them. So I hope they really are getting better.
Meanwhile chevy ford and chrysler are terribly designed. But they look prettier.
Great point.
I got a 2014 Kia Sorento that has over 250,000 miles on it. Still runs like a champion, never had to replace anything! Replaced battery and Alternator at 190,000 miles. Transmission shifts 👌 Perfect! No leaks or cracks.
Wow really good news to hear
be careful of the oil line blowing and causing the alternator to go bad
I've had 3 Hyundais go over 200k with no drama. My wife just got a brand new Santa Fe for $6k under MSRP. Like you said, Toyota wouldn't budge on price. We're very satisfied with Hyundai/Kia overall.
They are good vehicles for the money definitly not as good as Honda or Toyota but then again you get what you pay for. For a lot of people like yourself the 6k extra is not worth it. I would take a Kia or Hyundai over any American vehicle and every European vehicle except some of the German cars the older reliable ones that is, the Germans used to make good solid reliable cars believe it or not.
@@gravemind6536 Beautifully put. I used to own some BMW E30s and they absolutely do not make em like that anymore. The electronics and confusers nowadays are a monster.
Gravemind Ford is pretty solid too now, especially since they’ve stopped making cars
I got highlander 18 middle of 2018. 19 model had just come out . Both are exactly same thing. but got good $1500 off from dealer from msrp. another $1000 from Toyota rebate sale. could have gotten another $1500 off but went with 0% apr. Sales are there u have to look for them and the dealer straight up said he’d beat the other Toyota dealers price .

I've got a 2020 Sorento, 60,000 miles, and I love it. It's been a great vehicle.
The Sorento is actually about the size of the highlander
That is what I was thinking. This is a whole size up from the rav4z
The higlander is more than a foot longer and 3 inches wider than the Sorento. The Rav4 is only 7" smaller than the Sorento. The Sorento is closer in volume to the RAV4 than it is a Highlander by quite a bit.
@@umbraviventem You are correct but it's still not a Rav4 competitor. It's the same length as the Toyota 4Runner and the rest of the mid-sized SUVs.

Even a FIAT owner or BMW owner can say the same about their car.
It's not about how long you've had the car. It's about how much work it has needed in that amount of time.
I’ve had the 2006 KIA Sportage, sister car to your Tucson, even though it’s one of the most uncomfortable cars I’ve ever had it’s been just oil and tires for 14 years. Regarding gas mileage: _You can't have the ponies, if you don't feed them._
U can if u have electric power
But low autonomy
It’s the weight... not entirely the power.
FWD has better mileage than RWD.... but both are way ahead of AWD’s higher drag issues.
KIA and Hyundai make heavy cars and SUV’s... that alone is a loose loose because they will be horrible to drive at higher gas costs. But increasing power... eww...
but they are cheaper lol
Alterate Awful sure, but even with electric power a lighter vehicle will have bigger autonomy than a heavier one.
Plus better performance if same motors are used.
The one thing he didn't point out was that the Rav4 also uses a CVT and the Kia doesn't which would be a difference in MPG.

A Sorento is more comparable to a Highlander than a RAV4. The Sportage is what is comparable to a RAV4.
Collin Beard that’s what I was gonna say. Sorento is definitely bigger than a RAV4
Sorento is 7 seaters while Rav 4 is 5 seaters so, obviously the first one is bigger.
the sorento is 7" longer than a Rav4, literally an irrelevant amount. If anything all that does is tell you that the Rav4 has a lot more comfort and cargo room for those 5 people than the sorento has for the 7. Bringing size into this is only proving the Rav4 is better than the sorento.
@Hentai is healthy it's 7" longer, that is barely giant. There are much bigger SUVs
@@suyesuay9813 That's not true at all, just because one has more seats doesn't mean it is comparably bigger. The sorento has 7" on a Rav4, that should tell you that the sorento has a lot less room for the 7 people.

Kia and Hyundai are dogshit, they have 100k warranties because they don't last that long most the time
@@justinweaver7553

@@BlueNinjakoopa553
Offer it is one thing, honoring is another, as with any warranty services. You have to convince them that it should be covered by them. But you're probably right, offering such a long warranty would entice more people to buy it. However, word of mouth also goes a long way. Hence why there's still some stigma associated with these Korean cars. That is also changing though, from what I see. No amount of warranty will make me buy a fiat/Chrysler, dodge, jeep, etc.
As an Actually Kia Tech I can tell you now that the reason why there is a 10k warranty is not because they fail a lot, it’s because back in the day in order to get sales When they did fail constitutionally ( 90’s) that was the only way to get sales and it just stuck with the brand it’s what they are known for. There are days where cars don’t even come in for more than just oil changed because they are really reliable cars now.

Thanks for your review Scotty. I would like to clarify some points here. A 2016 Kia Sorrento with 290hp was meant to compete with the Toyota Highlander, but was priced to compete with a base level Toyota RAV-4 which has 195hp. In 2020, a used 2016 Kia Sorrento LX will cost 66% the price of a used 2016 Toyota RAV4 with the same mileage, while giving you 95hp more power, a larger more upscale interior cabin, modern electronic conveniences such as Android and Apple Play which the Toyotas do not offer, as well as more cargo and towing capacity.

What surprises me is that the my 2020 Sorento with the V-6 gets better gas mileage than my wife's 2018 RAV4. I love the RAV4 but Toyota pissed me off when they discontinued the V-6 and only offer 4-bangers now. As for gas mileage, wifey's RAV averages about 23 MPG when running my usual mix of highway driving and city. My Sorento in that same regime gets right around 25. On a road trip where I'm running mostly 80-85 on the interstate with cruise-control on, my Sorento gets 28-30 MPG and long as I'm not running into a terrible head-wind or doing crazy hills. I'm a Sorento fan now.

Damn, that is good. That gas mileage is right in line with my first car, the 1990 Honda Civic 4-door sedan. And I guarantee you that Civic is a lot more gutless. I was in the Navy at the time, so I just needed something to get me around town and to/from work. Civic was great for reliability, loved the gas mileage, but it was gutless and needed a couple more gears, the 5-speed revved like it was ready to explode if you ever got it up to 75 MPH. That car didn't have a tac, so I don't know how high it was revving, but it didn't sound good.
Finally Sir Scotty gave a (relatively) good words for Kia. Things change ..
I own a 2014 Kia Sorento 4 cylinder. Bought it used at 60k three years ago. Now it has just over 110k. Had no major issues on it. Had that engine recall done that the 2014's were targeted and mine passed inspection and I got a lifetime engine warranty as a bonus. Kia takes care of their cars. I mean who else would give a lifetime engine warranty on their cars? I had a rear speed sensor go out and Kia took care of that also for free. Other than that I had no other issues. I change my oil every 10k-12k miles using Royal Purple. Already changed my spark plugs because they are right in front and easy to get to. This spring I'm going to change all four brake pads in my driveway because it's so easy on these cars. Going to get new tires this spring as well. Hell, I still have the factory battery in it. Starts right up every single time even in below freezing here in Ohio. I put a can of gas cleaner in every 5k miles because GDI engines are notorious for getting dirty cylinders. I even drive in ECO mode full time because if I don't, the engine has too much power and I basically launch off a green light which I hate. So I'm saving a little gas and getting better response from it.
I owned a 2010 Kia Soul that I bought new in 2009. One of the best cars I ever owned. No issues what-so-ever. Had the 100k warranty that I didn't even use. Drove it for 140k miles before the wife totaled it on the highway crashing into the center wall on a rainy day. No one was hurt. All airbags went off. My wife and kids walked away from it and the car saved their lives. By the way the Soul had its original battery in it also which I was shocked it lasted so long. She totaled it in 2017 so it went eight years on the factory battery. Insurance inspector gave me $7000 for the car since it was totaled. I was shocked at how much it kept its value. 140k miles and an eight year old car still worth that much. I took the check and bought the Sorento.
I own the 2016 Kia Sorento SV. V6 model Awd. All the bellsal and whistles for $34k new. Only 46k miles thus far. Never had an issue besides the horn went out and dealer replaced it under warranty. I do my regular oil change and brakes changes and go. I get approximately 17mpg mixed. I'm very happy with the truck. Scotty just confirmed my approval. 😉
I do too kia is pretty good now adays. Now early 2000s i would laugh if anyone owned kia but now it's actually fine and the warranty is insane

I have had kias (just 2) over the last 20 plus years never had any major issues.
Sweet. Just bought my first Kia. I'm really impressed so far.
Timothy Clark what’d you get?
@@tails300 2015 KIA K900 with 52000 miles.
Timothy Clark nice enjoy it 👍🏽

My wife drives a 2013 Sorento LX with the 3.5 V6. She loves it. It has 140,000 miles, and runs and drives great. Other than oil, filter, tires, and wipers, I've changed the spark plugs and replaced brake pads. I keep checking the hoses and belts, but the originals are still going strong. Amazing after years in the Texas heat.
The sorrento is closer to a highlander. Sportage is the rav4 competitor
C Morris no not really the telluride is the highlander competitor the sorento is a competitor to the equinox, RAV4, Edge and other compact midsize family SUV’s except the sorento has a 3rd row seat unlike all other competitors
@@queenhoe9006 I still think it's too big in comparison
@@queenhoe9006 Telluride is a lot bigger than the Highlander, with 3 times the towing capacity.
Conner’s Vlogs no no no...Highlander is comparable to Sorento- midsize SUVs. RAV4 and Sportage are comparable - compact SUVs
Hyundai and kia king of reliability and durability my hyundai elantra clocked over 200k miles without any problem
I have a 2016 Kia Soul 2.0, and I am very happy with it.
I have a 2018 Hyundai Tucson which I bought brand new. Put 35k miles on it so far and I’ve been very happy with it.
I have a Kia Rondo with 400 000k and runs like a charm. Best car i ever had.
In 2010 I purchased a 4 cyl. three-row (seven passengers) 2011 Kia Sorento built in West Point, GA. Today in 2020 I have about 90k miles on it and have paid out of pocket for two batteries, a set of windshield wipers, and normal maintenance. That's all! My local dealer included "free tires for life" in the purchase agreement. Under warranty, I have had a rear door seal, rear-wheel speed sensors, and airbags replaced. I have not been gentle on it, a few rattles and squeaks have developed, and I only average around 18 miles per gallon. All things considered, it has turned out to be a very good buying experience.
Scotty’s issue is that he often makes invalid comparisons. Those sorentos compete in the midsize suv class much more comparable to a highlander or 4Runner in size. That is why things such as gas mileage would be worse in the sorento. A proper comparison to the RAV4, which is a compact crossover, would be the Kia Sportage.
I have a 2012 Kia Sedona with a 3.5 V6 it's been a great van it has that same 6 speed automatic transmission it's got good power in this van we love it
Kia gone a long way since the early 2000’s
I had a 1997 Kia Sephia, back then they were owned by Ford/Mazda and shared the engine with the Miata, I loved it, owned it for 8 years and only sold it because I moved to Florida and it was too expensive to ship here, bought a 2001 Kia Spectra (Hyundai tech) when I moved here, wasn't too impressed. So they went from being great, to mediocre and back to great.
We got a Kia Forte 7 years ago, after 175k miles it's still going great without any issues. Dealer gives us free oil changes. Last year I got an Optima and I love how it drives, quick acceleration, great fuel economy, and comfortable and easy to drive.
Recently bought a used 2017 Hyundai SantaFe Sport (identical to the Sorento mechanically). When new three years ago, my fully-loaded model sold for around $45k (whoever bought it new checked off every freaking box on the option list, including the dealer-installed vent visors). I picked it up for just $20k with 30,000 miles on the clock. I have to say, I absolutely LOVE this vehicle. Being a Hyundai-certified pre-owned vehicle, it included the balance of the 10/100k factory powertrain warranty. I cross-shopped Toyota Rav-4s, but they were a bit smaller, and I didn't like the ride quality.
I have a 2015 sorento AWD 2.4 sorento I bought new and I am very hard on it. 70k miles today and still runs and shifts like a dream. Never had a problem with it. First set of tires lasted me 60k and I got 55k out of the original breaks and rotors. Still looks and feels new. Goes out in every snow storm and plows threw the snow with my Michelin snow tires. I can not wait to get the new 2021. This one we will keep as extra.
I have kia stinger and love it
Nice car. Going to pick up one soon
I want one 😒😒, i heard they are fun as hell
I want the stinger! But I have a family and that's not a family car. Plus there is basically no trunk space.
I have a stinger gt1. They are fun as hell and practical with the hatch sport back. Also is very well equiped on all trims and 10k to 20k less then competition.
I have a 2.0L Premium and love it!
Kia really have upped their game, my wife has a 2015 Rio with 78,xxx km and it has never given any problems, change the oil every 8k and changed the transmission oil at 40,xxx and works like a dream nothing has come apart, even the plastics are good and I'm in the Caribbean where the sun kills plastics.
Wow, something positive about the kias. I am pleasantly surprised
My brother got a used 2011 Kia Optima GDI. Currently over 130k and no major problem since 60k. Just regular oil change, replaced brake pads, and had alignment done - he hit the fence in the winter. Very smooth ride, roomy and great gas mileage.
My sister just bought a 2019 Sorento and she loves it.
Ive owned two so far new 2015. Just oil changes leased turned in at 26k. Then a used 2016 SXL again just reg maintenance. 46k now. Prob upgrade to Palisade or Telluride. But the new upcoming Sorrento's are hott.
Jacob Truelove my sister has a 2014 and she loves it
I'm very glad you are actually comparing these now. I recently purchased a Kia van as it saved me over $13,000 over a comparable Toyota. Toyota is nice, absolutely, but if you want a great car at a great price, and I NEVER thought I would say this, but you should get a Kia.
I owned a KIA for 10 years, ran great and reliable (bought used; put on 110k Miles than sold). Now I own a used 2015 Kia soul EV +. Great car; New Main battery under warranty. Great savings. Happy Customer!
Soul EV's are really nice. Range sucks but great around town.
@Charles N yup if you want range then buy a Tesla.
@@mtbse789 Work commuter...free charging is available at work. 😆 And I get over 100miles per charge!
I love my 2018 Kia Soul. It has good pickup and it gets much better gas mileage than advertised. It also feels sturdy. I have the 6 speed automatic and it shifts like a dream.
“Same size as a RAV4.” Put your Scottys on glasses lol it’s larger. Not the same size.
Edit: Sorento is 189 in length, rav4 is 182. Sorento is a Mid size SUV and RAV4 is a compact SUV.
It about the same size as a Toyota Highlander. The KIA Sportage is the same size as the RAV 4.
I just left a similar comment. The fact that they can cost "around" the same, shows you the value in the Kia. My comment starts off saying it's a class or two above the Rav 4.
They used to be Rav4 sized, but the 2016-present ones are sized in line with the highlander.
@@andybub45 you maybe getting in confused with the Kia Sportage. The Sorento has been on the larger side for a long time.
The Koreans really are catching up. I have a 2004 Elantra with 253k miles and it hasn't had any major issues yet with regular maintenance. It doesnt seem like it's going out anytime soon either. I'm sure the newer ones are even better built and can last even longer.
Scotty’s seal of approval ⭐️
Just bought a 2018 Sorento with 16,000 miles. Watched this video with bated breath but glad it got Scotty's seal of approval!
I don't believe it! Finally, some positive comments about Kia from Scotty!
I have two Kias. Wonderful cars. Dependable, warranty, no recalls. Sorento sx and Stinger GT2.
I own a 2012 kia optima sx 2.0t an have a life time warranty on the engine.. 64k miles running strong.
I bought a used 2016 Kia Sedona SXL. Fully loaded. I love it. It was a tossup between the Toyota Sienna or Kia Sedona, and I love the Sedona. Was 5k cheaper, looks MUCH better, more comfortable, much better drivetrain warranty, more luxurious, and has 2nd row captains chair with leg support that recline.
You might not see them often in the US, but you'll see them EVERYWHERE in Korea. The Sedona is the go-to luxury family hauler there.
Rav 4 is a sub compact cuv and sorrento is a mid size cuv. Mpg and pricing, you would wanna compare it to high lander, not the rav 4!
jerry chung rav4 is a compact not sub. Sorento is also compact. The sorento is a compact midsize just like a rav4 . All compact SUV’s have only 2 row seats. The sorento is the only one that had a 3rd row. A sub compact is a a vehicle like a new 2021 Kia Seltos and the Toyota C-HR
@@queenhoe9006 Correct on the Rav4 but the Sorento is a mid-sized, like the 4Runner. The highlander is a full sized SUV.
@jerry chung You’re right, it’s an unfair comparison, with all due respect to Scotty. The Rav4 is a
compact CUV though (more comparable to the Sportage), not a subcompact.
@kalel33 The 4Runner is a proper off-road midsize SUV not a midsize CUV like the Highlander.
@@abu_abdulmohsen Highlander is too big for a CUV. It's a midsized SUV. Having 4WD or AWD isn't the determining factor if something is an SUV or not.
My wife bought a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe in August of 2015. It has 70K kms. and it still has the original tires on it. Other than front brakes, oil changes, filter changes, etc, it's been great! No issues what so ever. AND that's with my 25 year old son driving it as well. It has the 2.4 non-turbo engine.
Talk about UltraHD Scotty very clear indeed 👍🚘 Huge Fan!
I have a 2013 base model Sorento and I absolutely love it. Had it for little more than a year and nothing but good things to say. I love my little SUV and though it's a 4 cylinder it's pretty darn fun to drive. Keep up the good work 🙏
My 2013 Kia Rio is the best car I've ever owned. I'm well over 100,000 trouble free kms in 5 yrs of ownership.
Because rios have the 1.6 engine which are pretty much bullet proof with normal maintenance obviously.
Kia Rios are total deathtraps on SoCal freeways!!!!! My BMW dealer would always give me one as a loaner. They don't brake, when you slam on the brakes hard, the front end nosedives. Plus they have 0 acceleration I would be deaf by the time I got to work!!!
My 2011 Kia soul is a trooper for what it's been through it's no Honda but not bad for 170000 miles
Joe Evolution damn 170,000 miles for a 2011 Soul. You must be driving it a lot. I have a 2011 Soul, but with close to 110,000 right now. Great car. 😎
I used to sell Kia's at a dealership. They are pretty nice now. The best thing is their warranty. You can't beat the warranty. Still prefer Toyota tho :)
@benz merc Hyundai and Kia prefer to keep their cars more modern versus Toyota who likes to keep their cars more outdated for reliability, so it may not be soon that Hyundai and kia will match toyota for reliability.

Thanks Scotty for the honest appraisals you provide.
I got a 2016 kia optima 61k miles and I love it!
I am a diehard Toyota fan, but my wife saw a 2010 kia forte ex she wanted very bad, so we got it. 4 years later it has 120,000 miles on it so far and it has been perfect. No problems whatsoever and I drive cars hard. I'm impressed with it.
Kia and Hyundai are great cars. I've had my Sonata for 4yrs got it at 108k now at 181k, no engine or transmission issue. The only issue it has it horrible aftermarket suspension parts that keep wearing out fast. And that's not the car's fault.
The Sorento would be the equivalent to the Highlander. The Sportage to the Rav4.
My Stinger strikingly amazing. It was my wife's car but I took it and I got my truck and I bought another Kia 2020 Optima EX!
Really nice cars
2013 sonata had it since new no problems have 80k on it now bean a great car just tires and brakes
That's not a lot of miles to be calling it great. You're just breaking it in!
Wait till 100 k you'll see the problems trust me
That's what I thought. Then my motor died, my steering had to be rebuilt, the radiator leaked, the waste gate got stuck twice, the brake pedal sensor broke twice, the fuel gauge stopped working half the time, and there was a mountain of recalls. So yeah, just wait. Consider selling after the court ordered settlement warranty extension expires.

I really don't get in a particular brand or model. To be honest with you most of the time I'm just happy to have a functional car LOL! I had a Jeep Liberty a 2008 for the last 7 years. At the start of 2020 my Jeep had OVER 200,000 miles on it. I started to have little problems here and there. I finally broke down and bought a brand new a Kia Telluride. Just the base model but after 9 months with it. I have to tell you it is a dream come true. God bless all of you and please stay safe.
I watch a Scotty video, walk downstairs for a cup of coffee and voila! There's another Scotty video. I'm convinced, Scotty is RUclips....lol
I am driving this exact model Kia Sorento. Same color and everything.
The 4 cyl engine is susceptible to a problem burning excess oil. Like a quart every 500 miles. Mine did.
Thankfully, at 75k miles, Kia replaced the engine under warranty. It now has a lifetime warranty for the engine (power train warranty expires at 100k).
Nice diplomatic review. You managed to state that you still preferred Toyotas, without offending your customer.
'94 Toyota Celica owners were offended... Not "one" mention of the venerable Toyota Celica! 🤬😡🥵😆🤣
I have a 2015 KIA Sorento SX Limited (3.3L) and it's been an absolute dream. We bought it as a lease trade-in in 2017, and it's had very few issues since we bought it. It now has 85K miles, and I'm considering a carbon cleaning (GDI engine) but I do oil changes every 5K miles, and general maintenance. I have a code scanner, and tools to do any minor work needed. Worst issue I've had was a recent failure of the timing chain guide and idler due to a failed PCV valve. Lesson learned, all fixed now, and running like a top!
The Sportage is the competitor of the Rav4, the Sorento compared to the Highlander/4runner.
I hope scotty sees this. The sportage is probably much cheaper than the rav4
@@Just_In_credible6 indeed it is.
Look up the car sizes and volumes, the RAV4 while slightly (7") shorter than the Sorento, it actually has a lot more internal space to work with than the Sorento.
I’ve owned 2 new Kia Sportage 2006 and 2011. Both are great cars. No problems to speak of. My 2011 currently has 186,000 miles.

Kia’s quality now along with the amount of features for money and they’re performance line are outstanding. I have a 2020 Forte Gt and it is such a nice car to drive, plus it’s better then a civic SI for 5 grand less 🤷🏼♂️
I've had two Kia Sedona's. 2006 I bought new and sold recently with 230,000 miles. The new owner drives by my house to work everyday. I bought a 2014 Sedona new. Currently 111,000 miles. All I have done to both vehicles is normal maintenance, oil, tires, brakes. On the 2006 I changed the spark plugs at 160,000 and it they were still good. On the 2014 i recently took them out and put them back. Good as new. They are both the luxury models and were about 8,000 cheaper than the best Chrysler and Honda. I would probably buy another one.
