I bought my 2017 Mazda CX-5 brand new and currently the car has 322,456 miles. The best car I’ve ever owned. I plan to drive it to at least 500,000 miles…😀😊
Mazda has come a LONG way after escaping the Ford relationship, I can definitely see Mazda achieving their goal of being a standalone premium Japanese luxury brand by the end of this decade.

Unfortunately the bodies of those early Japanese trucks weren't well rust-proofed, but those survivors ending up in dryer and warmer climates are appreciating in value. If only the Italians and Japanese were serious about rustproofing everything all along. So many simple cars to not only maintain, but apply later technology to become the best versions of their engineering. USA's period of Occupied Japan might be controversial to some not familiar, but we essentially moved our military production technology and techniques to help restore the damage done by WW2 nightmares. As soon as the highly industrious and decent people in Japan realized the new opportunities to provide for themselves via industrial competition, they became the best version of themselves without a ruling emperor. Changed transfer case and diff fluid at 47k, cabin and engine air filters changed a few times. New tires at 36k. Enjoy your CX-5!
New owner of a 2023 CX5. Bought used (demo) with 4200 miles. No turbo, quick as can be without it and with somewhat conservative driving getting 30 mpg combined. Some quirks that I believe are the Japanese designers doing what Japanese designers do but we are getting used to them. AWD is standard on the newer CX models but ours does not have cylinder deactivation. It handles nicely, quick up to speed, smooth shifting, very nice attention to detail in the interior.1st Mazda for us and so far satisfied. Tending to see a lot of CX5’s out on the roadways.
I never had a Mazda, how do you think it compares to Toyota and Honda? I currently have a 2016 Honda accord I got during the crazy used car market. It’s now what I want, I do want a new Honda sport hybrid that mileage is good.
@i_llogicalmyth4118 I'm very happy with my 2020 Cx‐5. Honda and Mazda SUV's are close in build quality and Toyota is better but with an inflated price tag, then there is Lexus. For a fun compact SUV the Mazda is more fun than the Honda's and Toyota's. Comes down to what you want out of your vehicle and what is practical for you. All of them are solid though.
Many reviewers who simultaneously tested the Honda, Mazda, Toyota, and Subaru would order all of them at the same price point and in all cases they stated that you had many more options in the Mazda like Napa leather, technology package which featured heads up display, lane keeping, radar cruise, tip out headlights, and rear seat heating. I bought a 2018 CX-5 GT in 2021 which had every option available, only had 19k miles (31,000kilometers), and i bought it from a Ford dealership in Canada for $19,300USD ($27,300CAD). They even delivered it to my house for me which was a 210 miles round trip. Except for oil changes I've not needed to spend a dime on maintenance. Great car!
This is literally one of the main reasons I went with Mazda. The level of luxury of higher trims has no comparison to me. It really feels premium if u ask me
My parents bought a cx5 in China after visiting Australia where the car is very common. It is not a very popular model because it is not very spacious and does not offer sofa or big screen... but they are very happy with it because it is the car for the true driver and no issue at one during 6 year ownership
My wife has a 2019 CX5 AWD grand touring we got it used in 2021 for 23k. So far no issues it’s a great SUV! We just did a 1000 mile trip to Lake Tahoe and it’s such a nice ride. We don’t regret buying this over an overrated Toyota rav4. The CX5 it’s a great SUV for a small family and it’s made in Japan.
I bought a Mazda 3 new in 2015, only tires, regular synthetic oil changes every 7k and timing belt changed at 167k miles. It now has 196k, a true champ!
Mazda's recent, excellent quality has NOTHING to do with Toyota. Mazda’s quality took off a decade ago when they split from Ford. Only the new Mazda CX-50 is jointly made with Toyota in their new plant in Alabama starting in 2021.
We bought a 2021 CX-5 AWD Turbo Grand Touring Reserve, new in 2021. 45,000 fun, flawless miles. Best vehicle we've ever had. I do all the oil changes, tire rotation, etc. It is LOADED, and we luv it! Heated and Cooled seats, dual climate zones, sunroof, red ext with white leather, Turbo, heated steering wheel, BOSE sound system, power lift gate, LED lights that turn in corners, etc. It's just fantastic! Pirelli Scorpion tires quiet the road noise immensely.
Nice ours has 115K the only thing it has EVER needed was sway bar links. But its such a cheap and easy repair it's hardly worth mentioning - coming from a former GM driver.
@@nobsatthistime Of course I have done regular maintenance on it. Oil change every 5k Transmission drain twice Coolant flush at 120k Spark plug replacement at 100k Brake job about every 60k. new battery at 4 years New engine filter and cabin air filter as needed New tires as needed. Gasoline as needed. Wash windshield as needed New wiperblades as needed Replace keyfob battery once Clean exterior as needed Clean interior as needed
Bought a new 2004 Mazda3 in 05 and put 310k on it, before I was Tboned a couple months back! Never had a single problem with it other than a new clutch at 240k and consumables. Decided to go with a cx5 to replace it after having one for a rental after my accident. I love it, have zero complaints. I did lots of research as well and Mazda is neck and neck or slightly higher than Toyota in reliability the last several years, and at a significantly lower price point.
Thanx for posting! We were going to purchase a 2024 CX5 but got a great deal on a 2024 CX50 non turbo. Changed oil after 1k miles and then after 4k miles etc. I didn’t want to purchase a new ride but We needed a good backup ride from a 2001 Silverado 5.3 . Truck still runs good at 387k miles tho. Enjoying the Mazda for now 🎸☃️
It's so unfortunate what happened with Chevy. They made excellent trucks back then. By around 2006 their trucks really started going downhill. Their current trucks are nowhere near as good as they were in the 90's and get early 2000's.
Bought a 2025 last month and love it! I didn't need the CR-V size, turbo or CVT. Have had 2 RAV 4 years ago, decided to give Mazda a try! Zoom Zoom Zoom!
Few people actually need AWD. A good driver in a 2WD can beat an average driver in AWD every day in any terrain or conditions. Other than that, I like the Mazda with essentially Toyota drivetrains underneath. As Scotty stated as I'm typing this. Smart guy this Scotty. SCOTTY FOR PRESIDENT PLEASE
@@DU30DU30 I was about to buy a RAV-4 but would seriously consider a Mazda after watching this. I need more cargo space than this CX-5 offers, though. Is there another Mazda vehicle with cargo space similar to a RAV-4?
One thing about Scotty next week he’ll love the Toyota or he’ll love something else so he’s always changing, but he’s talking his cars and to him cheaper. Is this way of life.
I just picked up a 2024 CX30 Select Sport and I absolutely love it! Lots of power and a solid ride, all-around. It's my first Mazda (and new car)I'm definitely a fan.
What is keeping me from buying a mazda is the cylinder deactivation. A naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engineer with a traditional automatic is rare to find these days but cylinder deactivation just increases the chances of things breaking down
Just bought my wife a used 2018 CX5 GT with 106k and she's loving it and I love it because its easy to work on, nothing like the 2015 Chrysler 200s she had(which I had to work on all the time). Nothing better than a good 4 cyl engine for ease of maintenance.
I have a Mazda 3 2019 AWD with the same 2.5L engine, it is a pretty fun compact car, never gave me trouble, except for that one time where I had to change the flaps from the engine bay (stuck open) that controls the temperature. Currently at 72k miles
Love my 2021 CX-5 Grand Touring. Because I wanted the power lift gate had no choice of getting a sunroof. Otherwise, had it over three years still a great car. Plan on keeping it for a long time. It's a non turbo model to be specific.
I got a 2017 2.4L AWD CX-5, and it's great. I would like to have the 2wd model. I have had to replace all 4 tires at once because of crap on the road two times, and that's rough. It also doesn't help mileage to be AWD either. My only real complaint is it is the smallest in the class. The CR-V has ten extra cubic feet in back.
We have a 2014 mazda3 6 speed stick and a 2019 cx9. Our son just replaced his 2013 mazda3 with 194k with a 2024 mazda3. 1.9% financing. I do wish they would bring back the mazda6
On my 2017 Civic. The paint started peeling 3 years ago. Around the rear window. Honda refuses to do anything for now. The color is Modern Steel Metallic. They are only offering the repaint on their metallic white.
Nobody has ever done so much for the reputation and sales increases of a company and recieved so little in return from the company as Scotty did for Toyota.
Three family members have Mazdas, 2 3 series and 1 cx-5. Paint is an issue but the crimson red is the absolute worse. And it’s bad. Otherwise great car, no one’s complaining. 2019, and two 2018’s.
I have a 2024 cx-30 with 7500 miles the water pump belt broke and they are telling me that the wrong pully was installed and they have a Mazda engineer coming to look at it
I want a CX-5 pretty bad... only issue is my 20 year old Mazda 3 is just so fun to drive still (I got the 5-speed hatch and it still rips around just fine). 🤔
It's a V4 you don't need that xD I think it was the cx90 the previously V8 or V6 can use the deactivation How the hell a v4 needs that stuff for better gas economy?
It one of the ones I am looking at, the big seller to me is it a automatic, I need awd I live in the snowy mountains , 2 wd means bring a shovel, iam looking at rav 4 and Honda suv as well.
Can’t you have the tire shop scrape down the new replacement tire to match the tread depth of the other tires when replacing a flat on an awd vehicle to prevent any damage to the awd system and also save yourself from buying 4 tires instead of 1
Mazdas leak oil . They also have oil consumption issues . They have various other components that fail prematurely . I learned the hard way , I owned two of them . Google mazda cx5 oil leaks , oil consumption unfortunately very common
Have they improved the suspension issues ? They have a reputation for being "bouncy" and uncomfortable. I'd probably buy one but that would be a doubt for me......
Got burned with Mazda once ... single owner, well maintained, suburban driving and transmission tied at 48K miles. Yeah, go buy the Mazdas Scotty and save the Toyotas for me.
@@yournightmare9999 You only gamble once with an expensive purchase. Brand and year does not matter once trust is lost. You can buy them with Scotty ....
I had a 1993 929. Drove it 110,000 miles then it started burning oil. Had to say goodbye. Otherwise a Nissans since 1983. Am interested in Mazda CX-50 thanks to Mr G (Gesticulation!🤣).
Mazda has had a couple of automatic transmissions that are best avoided but over all they are about as good as Toyota or Honda and you can usually get for less money. At least the way Toyota and Honda used to be. Nissan was that way too but not anymore. One Mazda that I liked was the 929 but those things were rare.
Bought a 0% 2024 CX5 cause 0% and RAV4 way more 22,800 miles in 12 months and I’d say A+ or 9.5/10 so far. Getting 29.9 mpg combined and have gotten 34 hwy on long trips ( 150 miles round trip but that’s 1/2 thru NYC GW bridge so imo that’s combined as it takes 4 hours for 150 miles. 1 hour 1st 60 1 hour last 60 1-2 hours middle 30. ) can’t wait to flee NY Anyway. It’s nice. !!
Unfortunately in North America we don't get that model or diesels. They build a CX-50 here but has the 2.5 with or without turbo, no mild hybrid either.
@@yournightmare9999 How in particularly? The CX-60 is so far the only car that is offered from the CX series here in Germany. And it’s big enough to ride on the outskirts and the city centre and ground parking here in major cities that are quite narrow.

Nice
good picked bro drove my cx5 front wheel drive to reno and tahoe from sacramento took that climb eazy pezzy.
Sir good morning can you help me money
Overrated Rav 4 😂
I have a 2021.5 CX5 GT it’s easily the best car I’ve ever owned.
Still have my 2019 cx5 67 miles no lights no problems runs smooth.
I had a 2014 Mazda 6 and it was probably the best car I ever owned.
where is then?
I have a 2016 with 118K miles and it still feels like new to me.
I have the 2014 Mazda3 S grand touring 143K miles running great 👍🏽
@@rc666it’s inside your moms 🐱
My 2015 Mazda 3 2.0L with a 6-speed manual is the best daily driver I've ever owned.
We owned a 323 and a 626 when we lived in the Caribbean back in the 80s... loved them!
We have the 2019 CX-5 AWD diesel engine. And Im telling you its a lot fun to drive with that kind of torque it wont disappoint you
I love my 2017 CX5 my mom gave it to me and she got herself a 2021. Beautiful car handles better than my old Kia
I bought a Mazda 3 new in 2015, only tires, regular synthetic oil changes every 7k and timing belt changed at 167k miles. It now has 196k, a true champ!
KAPOW!
Scotty's impression of becoming a human CVT transmission was hilarious!
Since Ford dropped Mazda and Mazda parterned with Toyota, their quality and reliability has improved
Mazda's recent, excellent quality has NOTHING to do with Toyota. Mazda’s quality took off a decade ago when they split from Ford. Only the new Mazda CX-50 is jointly made with Toyota in their new plant in Alabama starting in 2021.
"Thanks, Scotty". Mazda was rock solid back in the middle of the Ford years. Many models were still assembled in Japan. Our 2002 was.
They’ve already improved significantly even before the partnership with Toyota!
I have a 2016 Mazda CX-5 with 186,00 miles on it. Never had a problem with it. Its perfect.
Nice ours has 115K the only thing it has EVER needed was sway bar links.
But its such a cheap and easy repair it's hardly worth mentioning - coming from a former GM driver.
Wow it amazes me that you never put Brake Pads on it. lol 186 Thousand Miles you must be on your 3rd set.
@@nobsatthistime
Of course I have done regular maintenance on it.
Oil change every 5k
Transmission drain twice
Coolant flush at 120k
Spark plug replacement at 100k
Brake job about every 60k.
new battery at 4 years
New engine filter and cabin air filter as needed
New tires as needed.
Gasoline as needed.
Wash windshield as needed
New wiperblades as needed
Replace keyfob battery once
Clean exterior as needed
Clean interior as needed
If the vehicles last the same amount of time and gas mileage only 1 or 2 mpg difference I think it’s worth it
I was in soft sand off the road about 12 feet. A fwd minivan. Just had to turn off traction control and made it back on asphalt.
I live in the north, 4wd is essential. and I don't care what you say, I'm not changing my mind.
No, Mazda uses their own drivetrains ('cept their new hybrid) so they are NOT Toyota drivetrains. 🙄
Um, wrong on all points. (Except the statement that Scotty is smart.)
I always knew Mazda could go toe to toe with Toyota and Honda, i just needed Scotty to confirm it lol.
Hahaha same here! Now I can confidently buy.cx5 than rav4 because of Uncle Scotty
@@DU30DU30 I was about to buy a RAV-4 but would seriously consider a Mazda after watching this. I need more cargo space than this CX-5 offers, though. Is there another Mazda vehicle with cargo space similar to a RAV-4?
@@almaburns6562 try the CX-50. It is made in AL, though, but the hybrid shares the same hybrid system as the RAV4.
I have a Toyota with a Mazda body, the CX-50 Hybrid. Owned a mazda CX-30 for 4 years before had 0 issues for the lenght of my ownership. Love mazda
One thing about Scotty next week he’ll love the Toyota or he’ll love something else so he’s always changing, but he’s talking his cars and to him cheaper. Is this way of life.
I have a 2019 CX-5 with 120,000 miles, I love it
My family has 4 Mazda's. Another one soon! Never a problem
Cool
I just picked up a 2024 CX30 Select Sport and I absolutely love it! Lots of power and a solid ride, all-around. It's my first Mazda (and new car)I'm definitely a fan.
Enjoy!
my 2020 cx5 GT and a 2022 mazda cx3HB almost paid off nothing wrong with it😊
I had a 2018 Mazda 3 with 2.5 liter naturally aspirated engine. Great car until it was taken out ny a deer. The best small 4 door car I’ve ever driven
RIP* (Wife totaled our Mazda. I mourned the loss)
My wife loves her 2019 CX-9. She doesn’t want anything else so I call that a win.
I like the looks of the CX-9 better than the new CX-90. 🙂
I got a new 2025 non turbo AWD, just three weeks ago.
The handling is amazing, it really is a joy to drive.
I am confident it will last a long time.
Scotty is incorrect. the CX-3 gets much better MPG than the CX-5
Yeah ... but it was kinda small (especially on the inside) and was replaced by the larger CX-30.
I’ve had one for three years and I am totally happy with it. Road trips are comfortable and the gas mileage is good. I would recommend it.
What is keeping me from buying a mazda is the cylinder deactivation. A naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engineer with a traditional automatic is rare to find these days but cylinder deactivation just increases the chances of things breaking down
On a four banger, that is ridiculous. Lousy way to get af ew more MPG's.
😊😊no reason not to buy Mazda. I changed my 11:29 RDX for Mazda 6 in 2020 with zero regrets. Tremendous car with reliable fun.
I read they stopped deactivation with 2024 cx5
I have a 2018, cx5 no cylinder deactivation
@@John-gw4jt it's back on the 2025 models, both Awful Start/Stop and cylinder deactivation.
Just bought my wife a used 2018 CX5 GT with 106k and she's loving it and I love it because its easy to work on, nothing like the 2015 Chrysler 200s she had(which I had to work on all the time). Nothing better than a good 4 cyl engine for ease of maintenance.
had a 13 200s loaded. sold it with 138000 had 0 problems.
2020 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring with 35,000 miles in snow flake pearl. She's a Japanese beauty 😍 🔥💪🏼
19 CX-5 Grand Touring with 120,000! Also snowflake white, love it
In the 1980s one of my dream cars was the Mazda RX7
In the 80's I owned a Mazda RX-2 Coupe and an RX-3 Wagon.
Scotty whipped it around that corner! 😂
I have a 2020 CX-9 with 98,000 miles on it now. It's my favorite car I've ever owned.
800s with Threatening Auras just made me come here to make sure Scotty was still with us
I've had 2 Mazdas. A first year 1978 RX-7 and a 1992 Protege. Both bought new. The two best cars I've ever owned.
Pretty good value…even Radar cruise control!
Thanks for your tips on improving your audio quality! What kind of microphone do you use? 🔥😛
I moved a piano in my CX-5.
Bought a CX5 CE 2025... It is nice to drive
Love this guys energy
Mazda 6 and refreshed cx9 because cx90 looks bad

On my 2017 Civic. The paint started peeling 3 years ago. Around the rear window. Honda refuses to do anything for now. The color is Modern Steel Metallic. They are only offering the repaint on their metallic white.
Mazda sells more CX5’s than all of their other models combined.
Very cool! Thank you for your contribution to educational content! 🍓🌺
great content thanks
Nobody has ever done so much for the reputation and sales increases of a company and recieved so little in return from the company as Scotty did for Toyota.
Three family members have Mazdas, 2 3 series and 1 cx-5. Paint is an issue but the crimson red is the absolute worse. And it’s bad. Otherwise great car, no one’s complaining. 2019, and two 2018’s.
what is the tape on top of ail-filter box?
Yeah but HAVING to buy four tires at a time to keep the matched because of the four wheel drive system .
Mazdaratti's are sick. I love my 2011 Mazda 3 s.
I’d still spend a few $ more and get a Toyota I’ve heard that these Mazda,s are having engine problems
The new Toyotas are having problems too. They all are..
I have a 2024 cx-30 with 7500 miles the water pump belt broke and they are telling me that the wrong pully was installed and they have a Mazda engineer coming to look at it
I could hear the 'noise' from here. I swear Mazda skimps on the insulation properties.
True enough. But I'm not bothered by it.

You're 100% right. I have a 2020 cx5 and the cabin noise is horrendous. Very loud car (and in the winter Jesus christ it's 10 times louder).
From 2022, isolation improves way better
I want a CX-5 pretty bad... only issue is my 20 year old Mazda 3 is just so fun to drive still (I got the 5-speed hatch and it still rips around just fine). 🤔
Don't get rid of it - you'll hate yourself if you do :o)

hmmmm do i buy the 2024 cx-5 or a 2019? Seems like a car that can make it to 200k with little issue.
doesn't this have cylinder deactivation? doesn't that cause issues?
It's a V4 you don't need that xD
I think it was the cx90 the previously V8 or V6 can use the deactivation
How the hell a v4 needs that stuff for better gas economy?
60mph on the freeway for 40mpg? No thank you. I remember going 55 and THAT was pure torture. 75mph por Vida
It one of the ones I am looking at, the big seller to me is it a automatic, I need awd I live in the snowy mountains , 2 wd means bring a shovel, iam looking at rav 4 and Honda suv as well.
Hands down, Mazda has the best red paint.
Got a cx90 prem plus, and my good friend said he wanted to dump his subaru ascent over it in a heartbeat, if he had the means. 😂
OMG, an Ascent?? No wonder he wants to ditch it!
@seanthompson8071 yeah. Id still take that over a telluride and a palisade though
I'd buy a used CX5 in a heartbeat!
New? Didn’t he say it was a 2019?
Still very similar to the 2025 ... same basic drivetrain.
I hear the steel is cheap on these, and the undercarriages rust out quickly.
what years and which models of Mazdas do you guys recommend? I want a suv wd OR a decent sedan
Good info.
Have they improved the suspension issues ? They have a reputation for being "bouncy" and uncomfortable. I'd probably buy one but that would be a doubt for me......
In Canada there is no real price difference between the CX-5 and RAV4 in comparable trim levels.
Oh they are great! Much better than a RAV4 looks nicer and faster. And stay away from the junk VW. Mazda doing a splendid job as always
Got burned with Mazda once ... single owner, well maintained, suburban driving and transmission tied at 48K miles. Yeah, go buy the Mazdas Scotty and save the Toyotas for me.

I had a 1993 929. Drove it 110,000 miles then it started burning oil. Had to say goodbye. Otherwise a Nissans since 1983. Am interested in Mazda CX-50 thanks to Mr G (Gesticulation!🤣).
Mazda has big screens. I'm not a screen guy.

Still have my 2010 Mazda 5 micro minivan with 175,000 miles and still running strong.
Bought a 0% 2024 CX5 cause 0% and RAV4 way more
22,800 miles in 12 months and I’d say A+ or 9.5/10 so far.
Getting 29.9 mpg combined and have gotten 34 hwy on long trips ( 150 miles round trip but that’s 1/2 thru NYC GW bridge so imo that’s combined as it takes 4 hours for 150 miles. 1 hour 1st 60 1 hour last 60 1-2 hours middle 30. ) can’t wait to flee NY
Anyway. It’s nice. !!
I was sitting today in a Mazda CX-60 3.3L Diesel Inline 6.
The quality of the interior is nice.
Cx 70 and 90 are way better
Unfortunately in North America we don't get that model or diesels. They build a CX-50 here but has the 2.5 with or without turbo, no mild hybrid either.
@@yournightmare9999 How in particularly?
The CX-60 is so far the only car that is offered from the CX series here in Germany. And it’s big enough to ride on the outskirts and the city centre and ground parking here in major cities that are quite narrow.
@TomGrob-f2s I see you live in the wrong continent, but remember, don't buy mazda with diesel engine.
