Saw a slightly newer one in Sainsburys car park earlier - caught it from the corner of my eye and thought - thats big and looks nice...wow its a KIA. In a gun metal colour it looked like if you parked it on your drive the neighbours would think you were doing OK.
My brother-in-law has a 14 year old CRV on 140k miles that he bought new. Its become totally unreliable recently ( though I think he is too tight to pay for dealer repairs ) but when I suggest a Skoda or KIA replacement would be a decent cost effective replacement he says he wouldn't have them because of "that badge". Give him a wave when you pass him - he will be easy to spot his is the black CRV on the hard shoulder of the M62

I wouldnt take a MPV against it either. Holds its own in a car park looks wise despite 10 years of age now. A friend has a Quashqai of the same age and seating arrangement and its been nothing but trouble and feels much cheaper inside when you sit in it.

i used one for my work, but was the new 22 plate models. was a 7 seater self charge hybrid. over 50k worth of car it was that high spec. hadnt driven one before nor an auto which this one was and it was so easy to drive , both fast and cruising. for a 1.6 petrol turbo with electric motor putting out 226hp it was very quick especially kick down on the move. going up hills was a breeze. chuck it in corners without concern and does also 600 miles to a tank. i would have one if i had the money and i dont need such a big car. dont know what these older ones are like but you'd have no regret getting a newer one. kia do make really nice cars, my work car now is a 22 plate awd auto sportage and while the 1.6 turbo petrol engine shifts the car quickly and effortlessly for 150hp without any electric motor aid and rides well for a car on 19" wheels. its fun to drive fast in, but the serento handled much better.

Rear diff bushings can wear as the car ages too. The two small bushings at the front of the diff seem to be the most common ones to wear. Also, make sure you change the automatic transmission fluid every now and then. Once the fluid wears out you will have issues with the lock up clutch (feels like an engine misfire at certain speeds). Keep the fluid fresh and the transmission is very reliable. Still driving my 2011 model to this day. Great review.

Got a 2011 KX-3 bought it last year with 92600 full Kia service history. I can confirm the clutch has a an issue, well more the slave cylinder was leaking. So that was a new clutch and dual mass fly wheel, at a lovely £1800. Also had the timing chain done as it sounded a bit tinny, could have probably got away with replacing the chain tensioners but I do a lot of driving abroad so had it done for peace of mind. That was £650, also had the alternator clutch done at the same time. Other than that it’s been great and I’ve put a load of miles on it in the year and bit of owning it.

1 thing I’ve always tried to figure out-if you need all 7 seats, 5 kiddy’s, going on holiday you’ll need some luggage etc. what is the biggest boot 7 seater, when the seats are all up? Q7, x5, LR discovery, Mercedes ml/gl xc90.
Or the people buses-vw sharan, fords galaxy/smax, etc etc.
It stands to reason, that if you have 7 people, you’ll need plenty of luggage. And each 1 I’ve seen, the boots are woeful at best.

We have a 2014 v6… 118,000 miles. Catalytic converter needs replacing 😢and the timing chain tensioner rattles like a lawn mower on every cold start, forums say it’s a matter of time before engine rebuild. All known Kia faults and no redesign done to the GDI 3.3 engine. Hoping it will last me long enough until I can trade in for something else.

Kia and Hyundai are less forgiving for oil changes. If you delay an oil change, the pick up sieve on the oil pump in the engine sump gets blocked.

Hopefully you'll add the skoda Kodiaq to the list, Great looking suv in my opinion, i had one for two years a 17 reg never any problems with it, the DSG gearbox was ok did the job, amazing room inside i only had the 5 seater but it was wasted on me always felt i should be doing the school round when in reality i only had a dog so i got rid.

Feel safer in a well built car with some size like that though which is important on today's roads. I was sad at feeling the necessity to change a cracking little Fiat I'd bought new and liked after being tailgated at speed by a cattle transporter one night and a big suv on another occasion, sad about driving standards and enforcement nowadays, but safety of loved ones came first, not that my car is going to protect me from another Scania but feel safer facing yobs in cars.

I haven’t owned a Kia, but my dad has had loads of the sportage Models and the last two generations of the sorento
In terms of reliability they have been excellent but they are only a few years old and low miles, but the reason he gets them is they seem to hold money and the dealer chops them in for a new one and he only loses a few grand on ex demo cars everytime he changes which isn’t bad to stay in a new car. He currently has a 2022 sorento top spec and loves it

This is really cool, been hoping you'd launch a video of Mk2 Sorento soon as it's one of the candidates as my next SUV. I'm just terribly put off by the fact that I can't get used one anywhere near 5 grand in my country, for about GBP9.000 I could get one with over 150.000 miles on the clock but the 5k ones are already write-offs. =(
