I think you need offroad driving lessons.

I have the Kia Sorento SX in silver - beautiful car in all aspects and worth every penny
Have you had any issues? Do you have the v6 or 4cyl?
@@VonnSaidYes I have the V6 (3.3L, 290hp, AWD). It’s been pretty reliable except for the AC compressor which started failing (quick fix, not very expensive). Over than that it’s been pretty reliable, capable, and livable. Does everything it has to without much fuss and can take quite some abuse.
Engine, transmission, and drivetrain are all solid even after 8 years in Lebanon’s absolutely horrible roads and drivers. (High rpm Cz of elevation changes, constant shifting Cz of constant acceleration/deceleration, all the roads are as wavy and rough as the ocean in December)
I just bought 14 sorento SX waiting for it to be delivered so i find myself here watching a video of it doing things i'll never do with it
Sorento for mine. Ground clearance is the deal breaker on your test. I have a 2011 Sorento (diesel version) and it's ability off road is surprising. Traction control off. Diff lock on. A bit more aggressive tyre tread and you have quite a capable SUV. A very nice on-road machine as well
It is just sad what they have done to the pathfinder. Its a station wagon with a 1 inch lift effectively.
Yeah, doesnt look like it has any more height than my Ford Falcon Sedan.
The Kia also has a locking differential - not sure about the Pathfinder. But that wasn't mentioned and locking the diff. would certainly make it more competitive in the mud and snow.
wow, if he went offroad for offroad enthusiasts, then why not use offroad tires like the consumer would do??? Lol
Uh...? The pathfinder interior is way more luxurious than the Kia..
I also like how you said the Nissan failed the first time on the hill but did it three times with the Kia and still didn't make it.
Yea no the interiors are pretty much the same sooo it's definitely not way more luxurious your dramatic.
either these two cars are the worst ever.... or you're the worst off road driver I've ever seen!
I test drove several SUVs including the Pilot and the High Lander and in the end I bought the Kia Sorento. The Pilot is a little bigger with more cargo space but I don't need it. The High Lander is made to be better off road so the ride is harsher and it is more expensive. I just want to get through the Ohio winters. I'm not mountain climbing. For price, options, comfort and power, the Sorento beats them all. I got the EX AWD V6.

Hi dave i just bought a 2015 nissan pathfinder and i went on a similar off road spot close to that ORV park and in this video i don"t think you mentioned if you had it in "2wd" "4wd auto" or "4wd lock" mode also did you have the traction control off because if i were you i would have put it in lock mode mode with traction control off.
Disable traction control and lock the differential on the sorento and watch it walk up that hill.
For this piece, I feel the Sorento is the best. The only way to know for sure though is to get identical tires on both vehicles and standardize the testing by using cones to mark start distance and end distance. Overall (and I'm biased because I own the SXL Sorento), I think the Sorento is better.
i dont understand which car to buy so dave can u review mazda cx9 vs nissan pathfinder
ok serious question, did you turn of traction control? ive found that in most scenarios aside from snow covered pavement that it is more of a hindrance since it kills momentum.
Can I ask why you didn't use the locking rear differential on the KIA? And turning off the traction control that is made for highway driving...You are doing off road tests without using the off road features offered by manufacturer. I own the 2015 Sorento and it makes a huge difference.
For sure it is the Pathfinder.
The Pathfinders All Wheel Drive system should be called all wheels spin lol
The Sorento has a center diff lock. Was it engaged ?
go Nissan.. I love my Nissan pathfinder..
U got the 2013 or 2014
i love pathfinders too
Would love to see you do a comparison between the R52 and R51 diesel turbo. Be interesting to see if the navara based Pathfinder is a better off-road offering than the current road based model.
Tried both, 2015 Nissan Pathfinder and 2015 Kia Sorento, ended up getting the Nissan and it wasn't even close. Pathfinder is simply a much smoother ride in all conditions.
can you disengage the traction control?
Hey Dave, love the off road reviews! When you were testing the Pathfinder, did you have the 4 wheel drive system locked and the TC turned off?
I have a 2014 Platinum that has gone through a lot worse. Similar terrain as you with 12" of snow on top. However, I am running Cooper Discover snow tires which are a lot more aggressive.
I was wondering that as well, so he did mention in the Kia that the Kia also had traction control on so I'm assuming he had it on in the Pathfinder from that. Though the brand and model Tire on the Pathfinder is not that good so I am impressed it did what it did😂 Just purchased used 2013 so just joining the family!
I'll take that Sorrento any day over that Pathfinder
Me too! Great looks, traditional tranny, good clearance for what 95% of people need.. same with towing. Pathfinder looks like a minivan with doors to me.
@@rustlesee i hate sorentos except white ones
Same, I would love to have a 2015 Sorento SXL in 2 years when I’m in high school. I mean yes it’s a old but it’s reliable and they are great cars.
@@caidenn_mb I'll have a 4runner over a sorento
I hated kias for years but a friend bought a sorento in 2013. I was so impressed with it I got rid of my pos ford 500 and got one. 7 years later still running strong and I still got a couple years left on my warranty. I never want another cvt trans again. I adore my sorento .
Hi
your video was great and was worth my time....thanks...good luck
Hi, you said that las week tested Honda Pilot and all was very good. What year and version of Honda Pilot was tested in that hill ? Thanks
I like the pathfinder!
I have a 2014 pathfinder platinum and it's awosom. Traded in my 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD diesel for it and I don't regret especially on my windy mountain back road. Been doin great in snow with auto4wd and cvt. Northeast PA poconos isn't nice on any vehicle in winter conditions but this thing is great.
Davie I have a question. My Pathfinder's window sticker says it is a 4 x 2 drive with traction ctrl. What does a 4 x2 mean; front wheel drive?
Would you test 2012 nissan pathfinder?
hey dave great video when are you going to do a Q7 offroad?
Hello Dave.
I want to ask you if you could do a review on the Polo amd Golf VW and the GTI. Thanks!
Does the Sorrento gear affects its performance as much as the cvt does with pathfinder?
Waiting an expert reply!
Also the first generation frame based Sorento wouldn't have any problem with this track ;) But I have to admit that the 2014 model looks awesome.
Did you find that go pro that fell in that "pond" from the 4runner misadventure
TheGearHead48 not yet. I went back today and there's still too much water and mud. I will keep checking back each week - Dave
Nissan pathfinder
In a professional review! They have to make sure that the traction control is of and obstacles are taken at the same speeds.
Hi EverymanDriver. Im in South Africa. This version pathfinder will come to us later in the year, so I enjoyed watching this review of yours.
If I understand correctly you did not engage the center diff ("4wd locked"), you left it in "auto". The older pafthfinder here aslo has "4Lo Lock". Seems the new one does not. Im not too worried about the engine type and size. More interested in the off-roading capability.
Do you have a simular review on the new Nissan X-Trail?
thanks
traction control on!!..... off-roading with the traction control on..... lol!!!
Hi. I just need advice on whether to buy Sorrento 2014 or 2015. What is the crucial difference?
2- Is Kia Telluride 2014 or 2015 better than Sorrento?
Regards
That guy made himself look stupid trying to make that kia look good haha
Exactly
Lmao 😂
I own a 2014 pathfinder sv Im not surprised at the crossover awd type models that claim to be off road. IMOP is to sell more for the average guy that don't wana drive a quest around town. Awesome video I'm happy with my purchase.
Love all of your video reviews
I absolutely love these reviews!
Could have run that off-road course in a motorized wheelchair. Nice review grandma.
Joshua Campbell Thank you grandson, I appreciate the support.
I enjoy your Reviews! Mercedez GLC 2016? Love to see it with a side by side test with the BMW X3. Drove the X3 and the Merc. GLC . Close TIE!!! but Waiting on the Diesel GLC and love to see a side by side test of Both Diesel variants of these Bavarian Coaches!
Dave, both of these units have locking center diffs. Did you engage them? Based on wheel slip on the videos.. I'm guessing not. You also noted the Honda was able to make the grade... but you never seem to mention the tires on your testers. The Honda had M+S Michelin LTX tires. These two units had mild all season tires.
Blair Long I didn't lock the center diff on either; to keep it fair.
You are biased with Nissan ... Having both of the cars and found Pathy much more comfortable and powerful than Sorento. Lets be fair
Enayah Irfan no I"m not.
Everyman Driver Car Reviews
Bro it was so obvious you are biased to the Kia. The pathy did much better yet you still knock it.
I am in the market for a 2wd sorento, wont be off roading though.
Mainly for family and friend outings, people hauler and camping. The ride is pretty nice. As for this review, I think that driving the pathfinder through the dirt dug out the hill for the kia, speed also was a factor. I think both levels of performance were about the same though. I havent driven the pathfinder but opt for the sorento because of the styling, features and warranty. While the pathfinder may be more outdoorsy the kia is probably more stylish for city going. Then you come down to Cost.
Turn off traction control and use 4wd lock if equipped. Makes alot of differences.
I"m not an "off roader". Drove my son's 13 Pathfinder a few times and found it to be quit nice. But when I replaced my 12 Nissan Juke I went for an 11 Sorento EX. Totally prefer the Sorento by a large margin over the Pathfinder and the Juke even tho it is a couple of years older.
Would have been nice to know what type of tires both vehicles had.
i like the Kia.
You never locked the Pathfinder into 4x4 mode where it splits 50/50 torque. I wonder if you had if you could have finished making it up the one hill.
Is it exspensive to get more ground clearance?
Depends on how much extra, if its only 1 to 2 inches you could probably get away with manually adjusting the factory suspension (depending on the suspension), but if you want to raise it a lot more then it can become costly, but always do wheel realignment after adjusting your ride height.
at 14:05 you said "the wheels won't spin" implying that you wanted them to. well if you'd switched off traction control (because at 9:00 you said it was "on") you would've allowed them to spin. having TC on explains why you lose power and momentum because it inhibits the engine as soon as it detects wheel spin which is ok on a level surface not on a steep muddy slope :)
altern8ive My bad.
most times I think this guy doesn't know both what he is doing and what the features of each car are because he doesn't take the time to read the manual and does stupid stuff - like doing a winter drive with no snow tires etc....or as you pointed out turning off traction control - or in other vehicles locking the AWD system - he seems to be oblivious as to the actual features and content of the vehicles that he tests...
please do a video like this with the 2014 Chevrolet Equinox AWD
Traction control can be your worst enemy off road. Try turning it off next time, both vehicles probably would've performed better. The manual shift mode on the KIA also could've helped keep the engine in the right power band to traverse those grades. Does the KIA have the same Dynamax AWD system as my Sportage? If so it should also have hill descent control and rear diff lockers.
Like these video's I'm buying kia saronto 2011 hope i do well with it. I don't have a saturn anymore
I love my '14 Sorento AWD LX V6. She's a Gem ;}
Dave, if you would disable the traction control on every vehicle you test here (to keep it fair) you wouldn't lose engine power (and thus momentum) when going up those hills.
Nissan has completely killed off the legendary body on frame robust and sturdy pathfinder with this girly car. The older version would have had no problem with this course. BTW you should see some of the roads where I drive. I'll give you a hint. There aren't any
Viren Sanchit as an r51 owner I just can not look at it
Exactly what I was saying its big block look back in 2010 which is the version I own and the only reason I want to change is the interior and new tech. I wish I had the inside of the new pathfinder and the outside of the old pathfinder .... It now looks like what I call a basic bitch. All 4x4s nowadays look like a girly crossover it's so annoying
+Viren S well, what do you expect? at the end it's just a MALLfinder...
I can’t speak for the Pathfinder but I own a 2011 Kia Sorento and a 2015 Kia Sorento. Both AWD and v-6’s. One with 175,000 miles and one with 116,000 miles. They both have been worth ever penny. That man can’t drive. My personal driveway is steeper and worse condition than the last hill climbed. I turn traction control off and hit the locker button and mash it to the floor. I would have been air borne at the top of the hill, ha! I’m sure with the right driver the Pathfinder would have done better too.
he forgot to turn off the traction control otherwise he would have gone up the hill
Kia Sorento and Kia Sportage " Diesels" are the way to Go TORQUE !!!! ( forget the petrols )
Damn nissan saving money on projector headlight and side mirror lights
Pathfinder also has a diff lock option on the dial which you didn't use...???... The Kia/Hyundai doesn't offer diff lock
I like it! About to watch Everywoman Driver too. :) Keep up the good work Dave.
EliteMmbiz Thank you and thank you for checking out Melissa's channel - Dave
Next, you should try a 3.6 Outback. That woulcool to see how it would do on that same trail.
First things first, neither vehicle has tires that are remotely off road ready. They are riding on all season tires which are terrible in off road circumstances.
You got me, I've watched three videos and they're all from one video chopped up
Thanks for watching my video from 10 years ago.
I'm curious why didn't you guys do a three way challenge by adding the 2014 Toyota Highlander to the mix?
Maybe it should have been a four way challenge between the Toyota Highlander, Nissan Pathfinder, Kia Sorento, and Hyundai Santa Fe.
Hi Dave and Melissa,
Great videos, keep up the excellent work. Do you plan on testing the new 2014 Subaru Forester 2.0 XT turbo model?
Thanks,
Nissan the best...100%
First of all, that was a joy to watch. Secondly, I ddint give Nissan much of a chance but after those multiple Sorento fails, no doubt Pathfinder earned its name vs Kia.
You should take the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid out on this course.
Subaru's are horrible now. Don't buy. My 2014 Forester engine burns oil, gaskets leaking and Subaru won't fix even with warranty. Their class action lawsuit for the same problem allows an engine to burn a quart of oil every 1200 miles and that's considered normal. A svc manager admitted as of the 2014 and later, they're not built to last anymore due to pressure of making them more fuel efficient. He says to buy a Subaru for safety, but not for reliability. Yes, it will make it up the hill, but be prepared to only keep it a couple of years.
Throw em all-terrain tires for off road.
Forester vs CRV?
I love you video for the cars and I would like you to make another video with good off road tires. Nissan has a better capability off road and in all terrain (Swamp, dessert, Savanna, red mud, snow, rock, rain forest region) Nissan had prove the best. The UNHCR uses the Nissan an Toyota for all outreach in Africa, South America and Asia. I drive the Pathfinder 2014 to work in Kelowna from Prince George and I know how good the car is in this winter. Four wheel drive with good traction to the slippery road.
The Nissan Pathfinder is not a bad vehicle. i own a 2015 SV model and im happy to have a pathfinder. one day i will test its limits off road.
that driver doesn't know how to drove 4 x 4 in off road..funny!
Dude you test those two. You should tell us wich one was better.
I think it is time for a new Cherokee. Nissan and Kia both must have really appreciated the front styling of the '09 Saab 9-7X.
After owning 2 older versions 1991-2002 of the Pathfinder I would say the the kia performed exactly as expected amd the Pathfinder embarrassed itself. Nissan should have named it the Nissan Roadfinder. What used to be a true SUV is now just a sad sad blend in with the rest crossover.
7:53 - nice clean car & tyres. That is probably nissan-nano-paint with self-cleaning effect :)
I'd rather own the pathfinder, but what happened to making roomy 3rd row suvs like the Chrysler Aspen.
Yeah I guess your right :-(
You don't get enough credit for these awesome videos.
brocky what would you suggest I do to get more credit?
Everyman Driver review every car
EVERY car
EVEN THAT CAR
Everyman Driver hey dave ericson i have a bone to pick with you. i saw your comparison of the camry vs accord and i said in the comments for that video if you could do accord vs optima what gives man why do you ignore comments on your own videos
I could of done that with my Kia carnival
I think you should try the 2014 forester instead of these things.
I can't call it because u didn't go fast enough 😔
I bought used 2014 v6 today. When compare with Toyota Prado 2007. Toyota is amazing.
Cool.
Here in Russia, in some cities, the road is worse than the roads on video. We roadless is on the front drive passenger cars pass.=))))
Not an aptly conducted run. No mention of the settings of either car when climbing hills and those tires looked like all season urban tires.
how comes he doesn't take the 2014 acura mdx off road?
My childs pedal car would have went rounnd that course :-P
Good job Dave. Now I want a Kia for sure.
First the 2015 can tow 5,000lb in theory, well at least in Europe they can with the same transmission and differential, must be a marketing thing in North America, The reason I say that is the 2016 Sorento is rated now at 5,000lb with exactly the same transmission and engine from the 2015. Funny how that works. Second, the KIA is a way more refined CUV than the path finder, engine, transmission, ride quality and 4 wheel drive from a mechanical point of view. I say KIA is the clear winner if you remove the driver inconsistencies. :-)
