    I appreciate what's he's trying to do, however for an off road review I have to say its poor. I bought a 2014 PF 4wd and I took it to a primitive campsite and it did just as good as my 05 PF with the exception of some undercarriage scratching from the lower clearance. By the wheel spin I can tell he is in auto mode with the dynamic stability control enabled. If he were to lock the diff and turn the DSC off he would have succeeded. He needs to spend more time reading the manual otherwise I could film my wife doing the same thing with the same results. Please educate yourself to the car systems before you give these reviews.

      Makes sense. I have @ 13 PF that I'm currently rigging out as our adventure vehicle. Of course there are limitations, but that's where you plan and make right decisions when choosing our path... Hence - the Pathfinder...

    We have a 2014 and love it. The tires are excellent in snow and rain but not made for off road for sure. That is your problem. I am disappointed in the lack of ground clearance. The older model was much better for off-road duty. At the end of the day I just need it to handle dirt roads and heavy snow at most. In our last snow storm we had last February of 2014 it did great. That was about 5-6" of snowfall. Went out before the plows and it just gripped. Do still wish I could take it to play in mud off road but not really what its build for anymore.

    I personally have witnessed the pathfinder out perform other 4x4 in the snow, on some of our trails in southern California.
    He would have had much better results if he didn't have balding highway tires.

  • @joeschmoe6021
    @joeschmoe6021 8 лет назад +11

    its not clear why it could not climb the steep hill - was it loss of tire traction, which has less to do with the vehicle or did it stall out or not send power to all 4 wheels?! Its important because you would replace those highway tires with offroad tires if you were really planning on using offroad. And the hills it did climb: was it just momentum vs traction? useless video , it does not show or say anything about the automatic 4x4 mode (was it even in 4x4 mode?) , and whether it works as intended - ie kick in when needed and get the vehicle up a slow climb. - wasted 7 minutes watching this.

    Purchased the 2015 Pathfinder new, went to the Tennessee Mountains first week owned, and this vehicle could not get up to a cabin. It was not steep at all, but the Pathfinder just kept sliding back. A horror show as the ravines were a death sentence. We did not want to leave the cabin for fear of sliding off the road. Yes road, not dirt, no ice, a little damp. The tires Nissan puts on this vehicle are garbage, they had to be replaced with Michelins within the 1st year. The Cross Country's slide all over the road when wet. The other issue with this vehicle and has been since purchasing, is the hood. The hood looks like it will pop up when on the highway, any speed over 40. Very scary as a new car and has continued until now. The hood flops all over. It is a rough ride off highway or a bumpy rood, even the 2018s. In Florida and I bought this vehicle to be family friendly, dogs, travel, and getting through some terrain situations at the springs, camping, etc. It cant perform the way it should. I test drove one, 2018, to see if anything was improved because I like the Pathfinders solid feel, but the other elements and safety issues were not worth it. Gas mileage is 20 to 23 highway, not good. I'm looking at other SUVs today.

    • @Jonathancabanyc
      @Jonathancabanyc 7 дней назад

      The hood issue was a recall for 2024 which is crazy 😅 almost 12 years later and now they want to fix this issue, I have a 2013 Pathfinder, it's my first vehicle and it's been very decent. I haven't been off-road with it but based on this video it should be OK as long as the tires are the proper ones for off road.

    Can't blame Nissan. They crunched the numbers on what the vehicles were most often used for and redesigned accordingly. Saves a lot in manufacturing costs to share a FWD unibody platform. Ford did the same exact thing with the Exploder.

    First I must pos5 and say this Pathfinder 4x4 pretty stout! Case in point on 1 / 20 / 2021 wife and I were on a scavenger out in our 2003 Xterra4x4 south of I-10 west of Hwy. 78 in the desert area it had rained? maybe 2-3 inches and washes were running full bore! Now there is a military gunnery range out here and we had driven maybe 5 miles of wash running road areas of which were 100 yards across two feet deep when I look in my rearview mirror a mile back and a 2014 Pathfinder 4x4 with two military servicemen on an assignment out there? The point I was amazed they had driven where we had!

      ?

    • @JeremyPetho
      @JeremyPetho 10 лет назад

      Even in "lock", it is not locked, it just tries to send equal power to the front and rear. It is only suitable for light off-roading, anything more will overheat the system and it will go back to 2WD.

    • @dthompsont3796
      @dthompsont3796 9 лет назад

      +JP Onefourseven if I'm not mistaken, I am pretty sure that it is a locking system and not just 50 50 power transfer. I believe that's why they claimed it is 4x4 and not AWD.

    • @JeremyPetho
      @JeremyPetho 9 лет назад +1

      DThompson T
      The "lock" mode doesn't engage any gears or dogs, it just increases pressure to the transfer clutch so it holds the front and rear outputs together with no slip. It acts like 4WD when locked but only stays locked at low speeds and until the oil gets too hot, then it will release the pressure on the transfer clutch.
      Still, it is better than most AWD vehicles that don't have a lockable transfer clutch or don't give an option for the driver to manually lock it.

    pathfinder have became garbage for many reasons and #1. CVT transmission which is a complete piece of garbage this transmissions don´t last more than 45K miles i did bought a brand new Nissan Versa with CVT and cost me a fortune to get rid of that car. then i bought a Nissan Frontier which came with the traditional clutch automatic transmission had it for 5 years and no pain whatsoever regular maintenance only and is a daily car i put about 30 miles everyday and no complaints and 7 trips from GA to Colorado my truck is a 4 cylinder and 5 speed automatic. #2. ground clearance sucks 6.5 inches give a brake that is the high of any normal sedan pretty much plus add weight it will go down more.

    Its not the vehicle that it used to be for sure. 6.5 inches of clearance? looks like a short fat car, ...Nissan's version of the Venza. I think that you wasted your time taking it to an ORV Park Dave, honestly, it looked as if it was a calamity waiting to happen. Why didn't they just call it a new vehicle instead of calling it a Pathfinder? I can see Nissan looking at this attempt and coming to an understanding that their little experiment failed and re re designing the pathfinder to be the off road icon that it was created to be years ago. Let's hope.

    • @Gazziza29
      @Gazziza29 11 лет назад

      The 2012 Nissan Pathfinder sold 42k units. The 2013 updated version sold 88k units. So no, they aren't going to change the Pathfinder anytime soon. It's all about $$$ and I don't think Nissan has any regrets changing the Pathfinder to a unibody soccer mom Mallfinder. Similarly, the Toyota Highlander outsells the 4Runner by 2.5x. Who knows if the 4R will retain it's ruggedness in the 6th gen model and go the way the Pathfinder did or worse, EOL like the FJ Cruiser.

    Yeah well, the style of the New Pathfinder is too soft. It really looks too close to a minivan. The nose needs to be more aggressive. The new Rogue front end looks a lot better than this. The body could be a bit higher and better tires. You didn't make that one hill because of the tires. You can see the tread pattern is not aggressive enough. No doubt it's equipped with all season tires which would be fine for bad weather driving but not off-road stunts. Nice vehicle but I'm guessing it would get old and tired way too quickly. Very bland.
