    WD40 helps to dissolve the adhesive, it also helps to use some iso alcohol cleaning spray on the surface to get good adhesion with the car!

    That was really useful, thought it was just a couple of screws but sticking it as well is a great idea. Thanks Matt. 👍

    I love the simplicity of plate holders here in Germany, that have multiple combinations of holes to match the holes in each and every cars bodywork. And then you just put the plate in the holder. Job would be done in one minute each end of the car. No drilling, no scraping, no taping.

    You can’t use a spirit level. The car will be on a un-level surface roads are cambered and drive ways could be miles out too so a level will only make plate look wonky

    Randomly came across this video just now while looking for videos about UK number plates but some great advice in this video, I did the same thing with hairdryer after reading it a lot scrolling through pistonheads forum posts saying similar method with sticky pads. I used 3M VHB tape and it held on for over a year but then my car ended up in a rear end accident. It stayed on even through that though!

    NEVER drill plates by just holding them in your hand! Put them on a bench and clamp them. That's an accident waiting to happen!

      Yes, not good weather for working with anything that's sticky. A heat gun or hair dryer makes all the difference, regardless of the weather/temp.

    Is there any valid/legal reason for adding GREEN to a number plate now? Or is it simply a some kind of "statement?"

    Hi
    Really like your video. I have a Renault Zoe and the number plates are riveted on. Would really like to change number plates to the new green style. Any chance you could do a video showing how to remove the rivets? I saw your video about removing old bits of rivets from a Zoe which was excellent as usual.
    Thanks Bruce

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  3 года назад +3

      Drill them out with a HSS bit. Just drill the centre of the rivet out and it will fall apart.

    So many things wrong here starting with wrong pronunciation, and way too long a video.Has he left the peel off backing on back of plate? Spirit level??!!!!!!! Use WD40 or petrol to soak that residue off the back!!!! Razor blades and metal scrapers!!!! Let's see you drilling the metal bodywork! Cheating using the pads 1st before screwing!And drilling holding the plate!! You must do this on a work top!!! 🥺

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  Год назад +5

      Clearly not watched it properly as I didn't use a razor blade or metal scrapers and said no NOT use those. The scraper was plastic. The plates did not have a backing on them. The solvent I used was Autosmart Tardis, but of course your average home owner is not going to have this or want to buy it as its expensive stuff. As for drilling the metal bodywork..I'd never do that - that's the point of showing the alternative way of fixing.
      Anyway, thanks for watching!
