would there really be no compensation for you ? where i live, if someone without insurance damages my car, i still get the money to repair the car (from my insurance), but the uninsured dude then would have to pay back my insurance company or go into dept
Why have you made a petition on the change website and not the government petition website? The 100,000 signature is a requirement of the government petition site to be considered for discussion in parliament.
Somebody hits you, you claim off them, but your premium goes up. Somebody uninsured hits you, you claim of your own insurance, your premium goes up. Your car gets stolen, your premiums go up You buy a 2.0litre from a 1.2litre your premiums go up You can have 0 accidents in 10 years, you move house, your premiums go up And this is enforced by law. Any business in the world has to fight for customers accept car insurance. Imagine owning a pizza shop and theres a law that forces people to buy pizza atleast 2x per week.
The only thing legally mandated is liability. If you pay cash, you don’t need collision and the govt has nothing to do with it. Many of those scenarios don’t raise your liability premiums.
Can everyone like this so Mark knows - you need to reach 100,000 signatures on the gov official petition site. There is not much use getting 100,000 signatures on the changeorg site
Ridiculous ? Insurance tax is 12% of premium. National minimum wage is 11.44p per hour, electricity around 30p, and business rates are through the roof just like council tax is . Roads are packed with cars even at silly hours. Of course, premiums will go up, especially if you don't shop around
In Malaysia, car insurance reward driver with NCB, No Claim Bonus as much as 55% off the premium, when you drive carefully. Also some give you cash back, when you drive less. Insurance premium depends very much how much the car value.
My car is worth around £1500 and I have to pay £700 per year. Never had an accident since I got my driving license 9 years ago. On top of this, I have to pay £345 in road tax each year. We DO NOT live in a free country. This is worse than mafia extortion.
The value of the car has very little impact on premium, unless it is really high end like a Ferrari. The rates are based on statistics that estimate the likelihood of you being in an accident and the cost that will have to be paid to the third party. You could easily cause £30k to £40k damage to a modern car. If they are injured, then the costs are astronomical.
Be happy just 700, I had no accidents, max no claim bonus and paying over 1000, shit postcode, shit my name , my job position, every option what makes price up, total rip off
@@hardsjeremy3973 idk why insurance acts like the other person who also has insurance doesn't have to pay for their stuff. If I have medical insurance it's not so if I stab someone I pay for it. If I get phone insurance it's not incase I go and break someone else's phone. It's a joke
Had a six year old car stolen. It had crashed over a stone wall. When the insurance looked at the car they said all the damage was old!!!. The whole floor pan was bent splaying out the seats. Rear doors would not close. It was mot,d just three weeks before it was stolen. The mechanic wrote me a letter saying the car was perfect when he mot,d it. It took just over one year and a court case to get my payment from the insurance company. My only claim in fifty years. Do I trust insurance companies .???
Bang on - just went through this myself. No fault claim, took car to approved repairer recommended by insurance £8500. Took it to another manufacturer approved body shop who quoted £5000. When I confronted the first company they said "it's an insurance claim so doesn't matter what the cost is". Absolutely ridiculous and a key reason we are all paying more.
I did work experience in at a insurance company when i was 14 , it was explained to me that if your car was worth 10k and you say it's 5 they will give you 50% of the payout, however if you said 20k it will only increase your premium and they won't pay any more
@@DRIFT_CORE yep it's a game of 'guess how much we might think your car is worth'. Go too high and you lose on premiums, too low and you'd lose in a claim.
In most European countries, car insurance covers you insure vehicle itself, not the driver. This means that anyone who drives the car is covered by the policy and it covers the car and medical. However, in UK insurers exploit loopholes by requiring named drivers or multiple policies for the same car, leading to unnecessary costs for consumers.
long ago i had a rider policy in the UK that covered me on any bike up to 225cm³ ..... was someting between 100 and 200 punds a year i could go look at a bike, buy it and ride it home legally..... today this woul cost a fortune i guess but over here in Germany a have 20 bikes in one contract....any driver with a full license can ride them......308€ electric Golf 322€ fully comp old 2003 Kangoo tp fire theft 212€ this comparison makes you weep....
Lets just make everything affordable again as to be honest its taking the piss, one is small hatchbacks costing the same as a 90s 3 bedroom house with a garage and gardens i refuse to buy into this bullshit

@@09gdt it's about justification for spending(debt), if people are priced out of owning a car, they have no choice but to use public transport. Think TFL but nation wide, total control over how people move, it also is a way to incentivise '15 minute cities' where you don't need the ability to move yourself from place to place freely. Of course the wealthy will still have access to cars and maybe they'll even push for a 'ride share' system where you don't own a car but maybe have access to one some of the time. All in all it's about control and it's about keeping 'the people' relied on you (the government). Owning a car is freedom. Owning your own home is freedom. practically any form of ownership comes with responsibility and freedom which means you don't need government.

I asked Churchill if they could shift on the £573 insurance quote after it went up nearly £200. This lady said, "No". So I went on the Meerkat site and I got a quote for the same insurance for even less than the year before, cost £273. Guess with whom, Churchill. What a rip off these companies are.
I’m 55 full no claims, no points etc. I went to renew my Japanese import 3.5 v6 Nissan and the price doubled from last year. I changed to a different company and got it back to the same price. They are just trying to rip us off!!
You are just going to have to accept that you will need to shop around every renewal. Had to do this for about the last 3 years now. It always nearly doubles, however shopping round usually brings it back down to roughly where you were before. It's like they don't want your business. BTW I'm max no claims (25yrs) and no points/no claims too. I refuse to have auto renew settings on and let them rip me off.
Really? I have a shitty 2011 ford fiesta, and my renewed insurance for the last 4 years has always gone down. It was at £38 a month last year, and it's £32 now. Didn't even have to bother shopping around for a new quote. I'm with hastings direct
@Silverwidows That company near doubled mine last year. Funny thing though how, after my desire not to renew, they were suddenly able to offer a significant discount.
@@UCCLdIk6R5ECGtaGm7oqO-TQ weird, i've never had an issue with them. I think I only have about 7 years no claims. Every time it came up for renew, it was always cheaper. Fully comp, no issues. Every new auto quote was cheaper
I guess that since Brexit UK citizens aren't allowed to get an insurance from any EU countries...🤔!?! Maybe that's why prices increased...but maybe it's just a coincidence
Agreed. That's why they won't allow us to have "insurance savings accounts". If I can save into my own insurance savings account, with interest, why am I forced to pay a private company triple what it would cost me to fix the cars? We need to be allowed to have "insurance savings accounts" in place of corporate insurance. Spread the word.
More people in this country need to challenge the government, not just on car insurance but everything. It's gotten out of hand, they're to serve us, not rule us
Well done sir spot on . And unfortunately we cannot vote our way out of this corrupt system either. Because this whole system we are forced to live under is utterly corrupt and against the poor. because the main rule is the poor must be kept poor at all cost.
Sorry! Bit carried away there but fk it il post it all anyway lol hopefully it might inform or inspire sum1.. Yep! Definitely gona keep ruling if everyone stays obedient and scared 😞the youth have been suuuper messed up on purpose in my opinion to weaken and domesticate them. The schools treat em like 11yr olds when theyr 17 now and they want them to be isolated no local friends all online nonsense its a huuuge problem theyr dividing the masses into ever smaller fractions we no longer watch tv together or have music in common like previous generations now people stream alone or at different times so the unity we all felt in the past with fads or crazes is isolated to specific culture groups now and not shared by all like it used to be, the class divide is blatant the poor are indoctrinated and brainwashed, priced out of living a genuinely free life they are trapped in their homes or local estates all across greater london. there is no freedom when inflated costs tolls or taxes are trapping millions inside with no disposable income whatsoever.. (ulez means now millions of people cant even try to improve their life by getting a cheap car or van to go to work anymore! Its an awful thing i feel so sorry for 17 18yr olds and kids who cant remember the 90s or actual freedom or privacy) All this sneaky control and cleverly calculated pricing goes on to give the illusion of choice or freedom and sadly most people are too busy surviving to see the bigger picture and realise their lifes a lie and they are a slave to a broken outdated system. With global communication and current technology wed be so better off if we adapted and werent forced to obey the greedyest most evil 1%s ancient plans born long before anyone alive today and from a different time, if we could just evolve past this greed or get rid of that 1% altogether (small sacrafice imo, they screw the 99% to serve the 1% and have gradually turned this whole world into a pyramid scheme ffs so they do really deserve deletion if they wont agree to be fair willingly (democracy no lol?).. Scarcity is a lie theres plenty for everyone if we just stop monoculture farming and trying to pay into a failed outdated system that allows a small% to accumulate power and manipulate the rest of the species as a result!.. It does NOT have our best interests in mind at all so we shouldnt submit to or support it. In uk the majority of people just exist to be as human livestock just an easy way to funnel and direct tax money back into the system using benefits court cases taxes fines etc. and thats where they should stay in the eyes of the ruling class so as a result theres been less and less ways of non criminally bettering your future prospects as the years go on by working hard.. So while the poor work their fingers bloody to barely get by and usually have debt and no savings living day to day or cheque to cheque the rich totally cheat the system using a combo double edged sword of inflation and keeping money all tied up as assets with almost zero banked money just enough to live off and keep everything running, the assets are transformed into cash again only if needed it hardly ever is tho because they know they automatically get credit equal to the assets they own! meaning when your above a certain wealth threshold youd be very unwise not to keep spending hundreds of thousands on any stable asset (from coal or gravel to the maple syrup reserve in canada or the vodka reserve in russia, even houses cars jewelry its all inflatable assets which gets transformed into useable credit) so the act of "spending" once one reaches a certain level of wealth is totally an illusion unless spent on consumable or unstable assets! (the film brewsters millions kinda explains this too i saw it loads as a kid but id never joined the dots until i randomly was thinking about the economy many years later lol) the value is not only never lost it also increases daily due to inflation, whereas cash or cash savings devalues daily because of inflation so its like a multiple combined advantage our cash devalues at the same time their net worth increases! Plus all the advantages that come with having plenty of capital to invest in ventures, wealthy family networking and time spare from not having to work so theres no rush or distractions that the poor have from the constant worry and threats of debt or from trying to prevent homelessness/starvation/unemployment.. That advantage is quite exponentially huge its absolutely ridiculous this is happening but tbh it took me a lot of years to work this out for myself i just suddenly realised one day while thinking to myself! so i expect most poor people just dont even understand its happening?? Im really not sure but nobody i ask is aware of this and because im considered fairly intelligent if it wasnt obvious to me until my mid 20s and nobody i know is aware id imagine a majority of 'normal' people never actually work it out? I hear most poor ppl talk about 'Living off the interest' leading me to believe they dont actually understand economics.. I know for fact We certainly aren't informed of it as part of public education lol but im sure its made very very clear to them at any private schools! Or maybe its just common knowledge passed down among their class either way its a problem its a huuuge joke how the system is geared in favour of those who dont need any help, why instead shouldnt they cover the poorest peoples taxes for them out of the free inflated wealth they are cheating outta thin air that theyd never notice missing! Imo now currency isnt backed by any gold or physical thing the only reason for inflation Devaluing a currency is the competition between currencys making it relative if we ever trade international so in other words its being held onto cos of greed and stupidity, wed be better off all uniting and agreeing to do away with it cos then wed end up being able to print extra without devaluing it beyond useless.. Unite and defy bros, change is due the greed and corruption has gone way too far.. Try unite while we still can while the police are still human and have the chance to unite with us for their kids futures, It will be drones and robocops before long no doubt and when that happens then we may have passed the point of no return because when no humans are required to 'just follow orders' in return for favoritism or wages we could somehow miraculously unite all religions races and creeds and then still be opressed by dalek style arrest bots and drone swarms... this was never a risk before when human labor was required by any dictator but this is changing fast just think how many drones and droids can be built for the cost of a single humans wages for 1 year at least 500 its so cheap and efficient its almost certainly in the pipeline at some point because these corps love maximising efficiency and trying to squeeze out every possible drop of profit no matter the cost to society or the product/service (customer service is almost non existent already ffs..) Its all a mess tho, wed be way better off with a barter system and using precious metals by weight or exchange of goods or labour and circumventing the tax system altogether but unfortunately thers no good parents anymore and half the kids cant even count coins theyv been fully trained to rely on digital currency and they dont understand their rights to privacy like the older generations (hmm almost seems like theyr being prepared for total subliminal control maybe heading to a sterile fearful demolition man style future merthinks..) God help the future i really hope people manage to put their differences aside to fix the grip billionaires have over everyone and get back to some kind of sanity, this last decade has been downhill at an alarming rate.. ✌✊ Off with their Heads! I'm British born, moved countries a few times, owned my dream car at age 24 (A 1996 Corvette) in Sweden. It was my only car, daily driven, unlimited miles / year for insurance at about £260 per year in Sweden. I moved home to be with family, really wanted to bring my corvette home, but they wanted me to pay £770/month, for 1000 miles / year, and it wasnt allowed to be my only car, meaning I had to buy a daily driver and insure that which was another £1800/year for the cheapest insurance I could find. I battled with insurance trying to find a fair and reasonable solution for 1 year, and then decided to give up, Insurance in the UK is the biggest scam going, pushed me to move back to Sweden. Definitely my biggest annoyance with the UK currently.
In Sweden we have an insurance company that is owned by all customers, and if the company makes a big profit for the year everyone gets a bit of their yearly premium back. It feels nice that my insurance money is not going to some stockholder. UK does not have something similar?
@Abodd93 lol nope, here they whine about inflation rising prices and making it more expensive as.a.bullshit excuse to keep increasing.their millions of £ in profit 🙃 In Sweden insurance treats us fairly, in UK they just trying to f** everybody raw.
I'm British, live in Germany will say the insurance system here is unbelievable compared to the UK. So much cheaper also the car is insured and not the driver so anyone can drive your car if its insured
this is absolute genius, i hope more uk youtubers follow in your steps and tbh i hope it starts a wave of people taking back power not just from insurance but from the goverment
SIGN THE PETITION!! Even for those who can afford insurance, it’s in all of our best interest to hold insurance companies accountable, and reduce the number of uninsured drivers in the UK. Because if we get hit by one, it’s a lose-lose for everyone but the insurance company.
My biggest gripe is they ask you how much your car is worth when applying. They then completely ignore that value in the event of a write off. You then have to haggle to try and get anywhere close to market value!
The values aren't decided by the insurance companies, they're decided by industry recognised guides and they give you the average top book value minus any deductions
@user-ih5ve5vf1t #1 There are regulations to stop them paying you as low as possible called the consumer duty regulations #2 it's the market value. Not trade price. Why would they ever give you retail price? That's not what the car is worth.
I got a motorcycle license this year and got my first years insurance - I collected the bike on a Saturday and all the phone lines were closed so I had to use just an online quote. I ended up paying about £1150 when all the quotes I’d done earlier in the week were closer to £960. They also told me my front garden isn’t private property and charged me £120 to keep it on the road and when I moved from a town house to a rural detached house with a garage they hiked it another £250, never showed me the price and just charged my card after I let them know i was moving house. Very fair system.
I've lived in Japan since 2007 and had the shock of my life when I got my car insured here: 400 pounds per year and anyone over 20 can drive it. I almost fell off my chair. My first car was a Ford Escort and I paid 2 grand insurance in 2002, and only I could drive it. It's bananas.
I live in the Netherlands and we insure the cars, not the driver. If we don’t, we get automatically fined and that’s hundreds and hundreds of euros. A 20 year old might pay about 1200 a year for a boring average car, but it goes down pretty fast and at 24 it can be less than 600. Me, in my 30’s I pay less than 350 a year for my car (and about 250 for my wife’s Peugeot 206). And everyone can drive our cars, as long as me or my wife are the most frequent drivers.
@@blackmamba-to3dz I believe that's the case in the most European countries. I don't have a clue why insurance in the UK is so different. It doesn't make sense...why we can't insure 2, 3 or 5 cars using the same NCD on each car. Can't drive more than one car at the same time, etc 🤦🏻♂️
28 years old, after 4 years continuously insured on motorbikes without claims, and for me to insure a 5 door 1.6 SE Honda Civic was £3,000. 28 years old!!!!!! My brother got quoted similar amounts and he is 19 and only passed a year ago, hasn't actually driven since test day though because he cant afford the insurance. They must pull these numbers out their backsides.
Bikes and cars are completely separate. I had a bad bike crash on the motorway in March 2018. Later that year when I was renewing my car insurance they asked if I had any accidents or claims in the last year. I explained about the bike crash and they were not interested at all, only car claims
@@gerryodonnell321 can confirm, I had a minor crash years ago in a car. When I did my CBT and got a motorbike Lexham insurance weren't interested in the fact I'd had a crash.
There’s a motorbike insurance company that will carry your no claims from your bike over to your car. As I’m only a named driver on my car, if we were to get a second car I would have zero no claims. So this is how I would get round it.
I've worked in the industry, you get paid pittence and just told to reiterate the policy documents over the phone. They tell you to argue with customers and remind them that insurance is mandatory by law and not the insurers fault that your premiums are sky high. They do ANYTHING to not pay out and the amount of proof and paperwork required to claim is designed to deter claims.
We had a car right off, car was parked up and a lorry went down the side off it.. insurance company pushed for us to claim everything. Child seat was on the opposite side and untouched - they told us they would send us £200 instantly to buy a new one, they asked/ suggested us to fraudulently claim "was there anything on the seat that got damaged, any electronics a phone or laptop maybe?" We didn't claim for anything and ironically had to fight them for a decent price for the market value of the car as ours had really low milage yet they where consistently offering us way under the market value.. so they push for extra claims yet want to minimise their offer for your write off.. 100% shade corruption across the sector!
Car insurance companies are taking the piss. My nans renewing and M&S have put her premium up an extra £31 because she’s now a widow. She’s also been on with Hastings who gave her a quote and then pressure sold it by saying “it’s £x today but it’ll be more tomorrow”. It’s disgusting! Hope we’ve smashed the 100,000 signatures
I called my insurance company to remove my wife off my policy after she passed away, they said my premium would go up by £50 a year. I told the agent to leave her on. The whole industry is a scam.
Having a named driver on a policy will always bring the price down because insurers see it as shared responsibility and there's less chance of the car getting damaged, as for the buy it now price most insurers work off real time pricing which is all automated across the board and tracks so much data daily. It definitely is crap and I can see why people are signing and getting behind this petition
I’m paying £130 a month for a 125cc bike. Did you mention anything about security devices like locks or break discs ? If not try that and if you don't have any look through the little drop down list on comparethemarket and get any2 of them really does help drop it knocked off about £600 for me with it also being kept in a locked garage although if I don't put it in the garage my policy is void if its stolen lmao

I love living in Sweden, you get car insurance and that allows you to drive ANY car with the owners permission. That's it. No calling anyone, no limits (if your driving licence allows that type of vehicle) you get in, and drive.
The U.K. is a very corrupt country, but it doesn’t help that we have so many people living here that break the law, and the rest of us have to pay for them
The part that annoys me is when you actually check who is underwriting the policy they are all registered in Gibraltar etc. The insurance company is like a franchise and they are not even paying tax in the uk on these legally required in the uk insurance policies.
Mark, having recently been ripped off 50% of the physio I was awarded, having the car 'written off' rather than being repaired, policy cancellation issue, inflated premiums despite the other party admitting fault throughout, and still waiting for the personal injury payout 18 months later (which is being negotiated down the longer it takes), I wish you every success confronting the government on all this rip off.
Its worse than this, you used to be able to play one company off against another for a lower premium, but, this last year, like the power companies, they have got their heads together to remove any reductions across the board. They’ve realised that they’re stronger when they fix prices between them
That's utter nonsense. Insurance companies don't fix prices. They aren't allowed to conspire with each other and would be subject to massive fines if the regulator found out.
In the past insurers could charge more for a renewal than a new customer. Now they have to offer the same price to both. Therefore you don’t get those big savings by changing insurer as they can’t offer a big discount to new customers, just to buy them in. Obviously each insurer have their own rating structures and rates can change each year, so it is worth shopping around.
@@Stuffandstuff-999Sweet summer child you are very naive. There are many different ways to collude on pricing. One way, is to do it directly but of course that’s risky. The other way is to ‘unofficially’ do it, which is a very long subject. Of course not every car insurance would be involved but you can bet your bottom dollar that many of them are.
The one huge problem with car insurance is not what you think. You will get NO help from the government, remember the insurance premium tax? The more you pay for your premium, the more tax you pay to the government in tax! Insurance premium tax is a percentage of the premium, so the higher the premium, the higher the tax charged and paid to the government. It is not in the government's interest to lower insurance premiums as it would reduce their tax income. It is just another VAT (Value Added Tax).
There are states in the US where car insurance isn’t legally required for you to be on the road, so insurance companies have to be competitive to get your business. The driving age in the US varies between 14 and 16 years old. Teenagers can get insured on huge 5L+ V8 saloons and SUV’s for $250 a year, and it’s profitable… so why are we so FUCKED in England with 17’s and 18 year olds paying over £2,000 a year for their 1L Micra
That price tends to be in places like london where its always gonna be high and then on top of it they have a risky car like a Peugeot 106 where they know its typically gotten by 18 year olds to race around with and act like knobs on top of that having no experience of course being more likely and then having the show off to friends its all way way higher risk or if they get a nice new car or luxury brand it puts the theft chance up its all stupid and I fully believe it needs capped but atleast that one i kinda get and you should really be getting quotes for cars your considering so you know the price before you buy it and can pivot to cars that its not so bad on. Like you buy a royal Enfield 650 it costs like nothing for a new rider because its cheap and no one really would ever steal it but you'll find any Japanese brand your price sky rockets because its seen as more " luxury" and you'll act more like a knob with it.
My son went travelling after uni, while in NZ he bought a car. He messaged me to say that you do not have to have car insurance over there. That was 2014, don’t know whether it’s changed. He chose to buy insurance, I was pleased….human conditioning! When he passed his driving test at 17, his insurance, I think would have been 2k. I put myself as main driver, got it down to 1k. @@S55M3my brother put in all the effort to pass his test last year and hasn't driven since because it would be about £3200 a year, he can't afford that at 19 years old!.
The government needs to reform the insurance industry. They should start by offering a 50% refund for no claims made in the year when renewal comes up.
I've signed the petition but thought that you need to start one on the govenment website to get it guaranteed to be discussed in Parliament, if you start on on there I'll happily sign that one too.
My daughter passed her test had to have a black box. Someone went into the back of her car when she was stopped at traffic lights! That part was all good there insurance paid for her car to get fixed she got the car back. Fast forward a few weeks her insurance cancelled her insurance for erratic driving and give her the date. The date given just so happened to be just before she got it back so she told the insurance company it was in the garage even though they already new because they arranged it to be in the garage but they wasn't interested and cancelled it anyway. She then had to get new quotes and it was through the roof because she had to tell them about a non fault claim and you have to tell them that you have had insurance cancelled. Insurance is definitely a scam!
Honestly depending how bad it is your better off not even claiming just take it to a shop for a quote and pay out of pocket even if its 3kk youll save yourself in the long run or if its dents give it a ago yourself at popping out first.
I'd take them to court with that information and evidence. Don't back down and accept that! Tons of no win, no fee solicitors would absolutely lap that case up!
I would be going to the ombudsman with that. If that's true, then that's an insurance policy that's been wrongfully cancelled and your daughter's old insurance company would be liable for any costs (if any new insurers wouldn't refund any difference in premium)
My neice had a simler thing she got hit by a car on a roundabout so it's was the other cars fault 100% .so they got the insurance ones to take the car away and she had a hire car . So after 2 weeks she got an call from the garage saying they be collecting there car and her was being dropped off . Two days later she had the cancellation of her policy as she been fined £600 the letters arrived cupl days later due to her driving and when checked she didn't even have the car it was with there garage turns out they fixed the car in 3 days (not much wrong body panels door) then they been driving her xar about when we asked for the routes one them was another person who had dropped there car off an got my neices as a hire car .. they did sort it out she had money off the insurance for goodwill rubbish . So keep heck your mileage too .
@vlratcliffe1 my insurance cancelled after a few hours. Can only get insured through one company now, marked for life( spoke to a woman at Carol nash who thought it seemed unfair and actually reversed it for the quote) still couldn't insured cos it was for a pitbike.
I got forced off the road, someone cut into my lane, I swerved and left the road, about £600 in damage. Had it on dashcam, the police got him and he got a driver awareness course. The insurance company didn't want to know, because I didn't plough into them, they said it would be my fault. Utterly ridiculous.
I had a similar incident and because he was a prison officer they let him go and came after me and they even played with the dash cam although my insurance has been decent about it as they also have the dash cam and refused his insurance claim
@morestupidforms contributory negligence. They probably reviewed the footage and found that third parties' actions were not sufficient to prove negligence. Your car insurance makes money from non fault claims. In my opinion, you're probably just being stubborn
Paid £500 last year for my insurance, 27yo Male, no previous accidents, 8 years no claims etc, no points, this year they wanted £1200, managed to haggle it down to £950..... and they had the cheek to ask me if i was happy with that price, absolute joke!
You think you had it bad? I'm 29, driving almost 12 years. NO points, NO bans, NO disqualifications. Obtained Pass plus exceeded grade a month after passing my test. My insurance went from £800 to £1,500 after a fault claim (national highways clearing up some oil on a dual carriageway after my engine went bang and it leaked oil everywhere)... and then went from £1,500 to £4,500 after a second "fault" claim whereby some pillock out delivering for an agency contracted by amazon using a rental van, hit my parked car and drove away, as he was never traced and he caused £3,500 worth of damage (my car was in the garage for a month) they decided it was another "fault" claim for me. 29 years old, almost 12 years on the road. Paying £4,500 on a 3 litre car. Even when I got on a quote on my parent's 2 litre BMW X1 it was still £2,800 absolute cheapest and ranged up to £3,500.
@@thefiestaguy8831 yeah you've been absolutely shafted there man, it's silly how you end up down shit creek when someone else hits your car and drives off 🤦🏻♂️
I have had a huge pro twitch this in the UK. The government requires you to have insurance but don’t regulate them! What a joke! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! And this needs to be investigated by your mp!
just had a problem with getting insured for next year, I'm 20 and the insurance on my 325i worked out for £770 a month which is just way too much, seen in your video to use the incognito tab, and that made the price £333 a month (it's more affordable) and makes a massive difference in my life, had a panic attack but u saved me, thanks Mark!
Usually is to be honest. I've seen whatever you think will be cheaper , will actually cost more. Same with excess and parking in a garage . @@tardeliesmagic
The person driving is the risk. Insure the person, as in USA. One policy that covers the person whatever they are driving. After all, multiple cars- you can still only drive one at a time so why have separate policies on every car you own. Change is needed particularly when the requirement is mandatory.
The person driving is only part of the (financial) risk. The car is a way greater part of the risk. Not only are fast cars way more likely to have a accident, expensive cars cost more money and heavy cars do more damage. In the uk, a person is insured with a specific car. In most of Europe a car is insured no matter who drives it, but the history, age and whatever of the owner/the person who drives the car most often dictates the price. That seems to be a decent compromise where there is never a situation without insurance and the price is still fair.
The problem with your comments is that in the even of serious injuries, the costs outweigh any realistic car value. You are right that some cars have a bigger risks but that’s not based on car value per say. I think a more reasonable compromise is to insure people to drive cars for x miles with y insurance category of cars or bellow. Then it should be run on an acceptable profit yield (say 10% per annum?) where the drive to increase profits is to get more people insured as your efficiency is better therefore can offer cheaper policies. Whilst increasing revenue.
@@alexlerwill344 I’m not really sure what you try to say. But it sounds needlessly complicated and at least partially incorrect. The costs of insurance are based on the potential costs for the insurance company. The price of the car is only a small factor in that. The biggest cost is healthcare, the biggest risks are the driver and mostly performance of the car. The us and the uk don’t have good functioning car insurance. In both countries there are a lot of uninsured drivers. There are plenty of countries with mandatory insurance that are both affordable and good. You don’t have to invent the wheel again, it’s perfectly known what works. A lot of countries in Europe have a good functioning and as honest as possible system in place.
I was always thinking that car insurance is getting more and more into greed and scam area. Thank you for this video and actually explaining and exposing it.
I was with Flow insurance (LV) , which changed names (and maybe hands?) and is now called Allianz. I have 9 years no claims and been with Flow for two of them. This year they upped my car insurance by 50%. Same car, no claims, no address change, nothing. Did a quick comparison and 10 other insurance companies would offer me 10% less than I paid the previous year, for the exact same policy. When I queried with Allianz, they referred me to their website, which states "their first price is their best price, no haggling accepted". What a pig headed response. I feel bad for the poor people that may have missed this and paid more than they should. They have too much power over a mandated product and should be held accountable for defrauding the public. Shop around people.
LV was purchased by Allianz a few years ago. It’s a German insurance company who do provide a much better service in the event that something bad does actually happen to you on the roads. So it is more expensive, but if you’re in an accident and then become paraplegic for example they tend to do a far better job than other insurance companies at getting the money you - in that position - really need from the other drivers insurance company for your care, physio, home adaptations etc. I get the point of your original post, I just thought I’d add some context as to why they are more expensive.
@@0rdoAbChao Thanks for some background on them. I've used them for a few years and they've always been very competitive. So it was quite the surprise when they upped it by 50% this year. I just feel it was far too much for the current economic climate we're all facing.
Another bizarre quirk to insurance quote hunting, one of the biggest changes that I could find was by using faux names. I use to do so many I didn’t want hassling with sales so I’d use all my details, address, dob, vehicle, etc etc, I’d put a fake name and number. Changing back to my name would have the biggest change. I tried it with my friends names and proved not just be a fluke with me. My suggestion on comparison cars is to get your details set, find the vehicle you want to insure, and just keep getting new quotes with loads of different names till you find the cheapest name to quote with, and with that quote reference, call up and change the name with them. They can’t legally discriminate or change the quote based on your name so you get to keep that price, and update the policy with the correct name.
What sort of names were favourable? Were there any sort of discriminations based on names that indicate race or social class? e.g. a name like Mohammad or Jayden?
@@0WEN0AH No, I think it’s probably based on an algorithm, maybe names that rarely have claims against them. Both obscure names and common names seemed to work. I pretty much tried all the combinations of my friends names and any names I could think of from my childhood and combined surnames with first names etc. Some friends had better quotes than me so I used their names at my address with my DOB and it brought my prices down. Very strange. This was in my teenage years, I’m in my 30’s now so I don’t need to do as much to bring prices down anymore but they’re still higher than they should be.
Would that not just cause a big problem if you are pulled over by the police and the name on your license doesn't match the name on the policy?. Your idea would definitely work in Europe though.
@ramborambokitchenkitchen6357 I think you need to read through that again. The fake name is only to obtain a quote; the policy holder name must be updated before paying for anything. I'm not sure if this is a thing, but please do not take a live policy out with a fake name. I would hope that almost everyone knows, that any insurance company would take great delight in finding a loophole with which to invalidate a claim and not find themselves on the line to pay.
My friends was involved in an accident where he was smacked from behind, no fault of his in the slightest. His insurance policy has went up £970 this year! The insurance said “although it’s not your fault, you have been involved in an accident”. Ridiculous!!!
That happened to me. I had a car crash into my car, driver admitted liability, the claim was settled in my favour. At renewal my insurance went up massively, although I have protected non claim bonus, I was told that although I have protected non claims, I didn’t have protected premiums.
@@dalebraithwaite6890 They say and claim this. But they refuse to release their data and statistics, so sorry if I'm not going to believe them at face value.
@MrManBuzz you're actually at much more of a risk of having a fault incident in the next three years after having a non fault incident than if you were to have a fault. Great post Mark and I’ve signed and circulated the petition. I experienced the same issue with Hastings Direct and Enterprise maybe 3 years ago. A guy reversed into my wife’s Nissan Xtrail and put a dent in the offside rear bumper, maybe a fist size. A scratch to the offside rear indicator lens as well. We reported it and an hour later Enterprise called and said the case was now theirs and they were sending us a hire car. I asked why as the bumper could be replaced in a day when the parts came in and we had another car anyway but they insisted. 2 hours later a brand new Mercedes SLC SUV turned up and they took our car away. The Mercedes was being charged at £700.00 per week! I chased and chased for 10 Weeks and in the eleventh week we got our car back. The total price for the incident was nearly £10k….. for a bumper and light cluster. I complained to the ombudsman but didn’t get a response. The insurance situation is a disgrace. Good luck mate
Im 25 years old got a 2004 1.4 corsa. Was planning on doing my license until i looked at the insurance, £10k for the year. Sold the car. But bought a 2003 1l corsa thats £900 for the year.

I had an accident and got payed out last year, the car was a write off but I had bought it back. They did carry on my policy but only when it had passed an MOT.
They're just taking advantage of the fact that the insurance is mandatory... even if you're involved in a minor car crash and it's not your fault, your premium will go up because of that! It doesn't make any sense 😕
My car was parked and involved in a hit and run. They smashed into the side and caused £3500 worth of damage. The insurers said because I can’t prove he did it I’d either have to pay or my premiums would increase. Police did bugger all and said there was no cctv in the car park. They said and I quote “maybe you should’ve thought before parking there” 😡
I was recently hit by a sorned car and the driver admitted to being uninsured, police not interested and insurance company completely incompetent regarding ending the claim.
I once used a 3rd party claims company for a non fault claim. They also supplied the courtesy car whilst my car was repaired. They held my repair back for 5 weeks. The total cost of the claim was around 13k and over 50% of that was for the courtesy car!!!
Mine was £13k just for the hire car and the write off was taken away, guess what they did to retaliate, they Cat S my new car instead when I moved the private reg across. It’s impossible to get sorted too.
One thing that gets me, I was hit by a car like 10 years ago, nothing I could do about it, I couldn't get out of the way or do anything to stop it, the driver admitted full fault and explained what happened. when I went to get insured the following year I was classed as a higher risk of accidents even though it was a non fault accident and they tried putting the insurance up by 15-20%. How is that right?
Only just discovered your channel. I am immediately subbing. I am planning on getting my first car in 12 years at the age of 31 and I am terrified of the insurance. This has really give me some confidence. I can't thank you enough Mark. Love you so much

@@CJ0175 This is an interesting pertinent point, as they can adjust this. Indeed they did after the jackson reforms when George Osbourne increased IPT which really pissed the insurers off after having just agreed the reforms to make savings. There is an argument that IPT should be inline wit h Vat. But as you said, it is significantly less. The issue lies with, if the reduce it, insurers will charge more and pocket the profit.
It’s about the damage that 3k car can do to others. And healthcare is also insured so it can add up very quickly. Still unfair though because in most places with comparable wealth it costs less than half of what it would cost in the uk.

I'm 29, got a classic MR2. Made in 1990 so insurance has always been pretty cheap, this year it went to £550 up from £120... I do maybe 1k miles a year and they know that because it's on the MOT. I'm convinced the government just wants people off the road, no one under 25 will be able to afford it soon
Another thing that should be checked are the number of insurance companies that have taken over accident repair garages and quietly run them. Write off cars but then repair them and sell them and make even more profit from selling the repaired cars? They falsify the repair costs and labour charges so the insurance company is can then turn round and say oh it’s cost ex amount to repair this car because they’ve already increased the prices and people don’t realise that the insurance companies are running the body shops this has been going on for a number of years at least 25 to 30 years.
My mum got hit by an uninsured driver, person drove away had the plate and stuff. Police basically said they couldn't do anything as they didnt catch them when it happened and the insurer was like we can fix it but it'll affect your insurance. So she ended up having to pay for the repair herself.

The value of the car has very little impact on premium, unless it is really high end like a Ferrari.
Daylight robbery mate
Insurance is a scam
I guess that since Brexit UK citizens aren't allowed to get an insurance from any EU countries...🤔!?! Maybe that's why prices increased...but maybe it's just a coincidence
Agreed insurance has been in UK a massive scam for a long long time now
@@loganleborgne420 it's run by criminals and protected by criminals.

The schools treat em like 11yr olds when theyr 17 now and they want them to be isolated no local friends all online nonsense its a huuuge problem theyr dividing the masses into ever smaller fractions we no longer watch tv together or have music in common like previous generations now people stream alone or at different times so the unity we all felt in the past with fads or crazes is isolated to specific culture groups now and not shared by all like it used to be,
the class divide is blatant the poor are indoctrinated and brainwashed, priced out of living a genuinely free life they are trapped in their homes or local estates all across greater london. there is no freedom when inflated costs tolls or taxes are trapping millions inside with no disposable income whatsoever.. (ulez means now millions of people cant even try to improve their life by getting a cheap car or van to go to work anymore! Its an awful thing i feel so sorry for 17 18yr olds and kids who cant remember the 90s or actual freedom or privacy)
All this sneaky control and cleverly calculated pricing goes on to give the illusion of choice or freedom and sadly most people are too busy surviving to see the bigger picture and realise their lifes a lie and they are a slave to a broken outdated system.
(the film brewsters millions kinda explains this too i saw it loads as a kid but id never joined the dots until i randomly was thinking about the economy many years later lol)
the value is not only never lost it also increases daily due to inflation, whereas cash or cash savings devalues daily because of inflation so its like a multiple combined advantage our cash devalues at the same time their net worth increases! Plus all the advantages that come with having plenty of capital to invest in ventures, wealthy family networking and time spare from not having to work so theres no rush or distractions that the poor have from the constant worry and threats of debt or from trying to prevent homelessness/starvation/unemployment.. That advantage is quite exponentially huge
its absolutely ridiculous this is happening but tbh it took me a lot of years to work this out for myself i just suddenly realised one day while thinking to myself! so i expect most poor people just dont even understand its happening?? Im really not sure but nobody i ask is aware of this and because im considered fairly intelligent if it wasnt obvious to me until my mid 20s and nobody i know is aware id imagine a majority of 'normal' people never actually work it out? I hear most poor ppl talk about 'Living off the interest' leading me to believe they dont actually understand economics.. I know for fact We certainly aren't informed of it as part of public education lol but im sure its made very very clear to them at any private schools! Or maybe its just common knowledge passed down among their class either way its a problem
its a huuuge joke how the system is geared in favour of those who dont need any help, why instead shouldnt they cover the poorest peoples taxes for them out of the free inflated wealth they are cheating outta thin air that theyd never notice missing!
Try unite while we still can while the police are still human and have the chance to unite with us for their kids futures,
It will be drones and robocops before long no doubt and when that happens then we may have passed the point of no return because when no humans are required to 'just follow orders' in return for favoritism or wages we could somehow miraculously unite all religions races and creeds and then still be opressed by dalek style arrest bots and drone swarms... this was never a risk before when human labor was required by any dictator but this is changing fast just think how many drones and droids can be built for the cost of a single humans wages for 1 year at least 500 its so cheap and efficient its almost certainly in the pipeline at some point because these corps love maximising efficiency and trying to squeeze out every possible drop of profit no matter the cost to society or the product/service (customer service is almost non existent already ffs..)
Its all a mess tho, wed be way better off with a barter system and using precious metals by weight or exchange of goods or labour and circumventing the tax system altogether but unfortunately thers no good parents anymore and half the kids cant even count coins theyv been fully trained to rely on digital currency and they dont understand their rights to privacy like the older generations (hmm almost seems like theyr being prepared for total subliminal control maybe heading to a sterile fearful demolition man style future merthinks..)
God help the future i really hope people manage to put their differences aside to fix the grip billionaires have over everyone and get back to some kind of sanity, this last decade has been downhill at an alarming rate.. ✌✊ Off with their Heads! The french had the right idea what to do with these sort of scumbags..

I suspect a lot of people in government may own insurance companies
In Sweden we have an insurance company that is owned by all customers, and if the company makes a big profit for the year everyone gets a bit of their yearly premium back. It feels nice that my insurance money is not going to some stockholder. UK does not have something similar?
@Abodd93 lol nope, here they whine about inflation rising prices and making it more expensive as.a.bullshit excuse to keep increasing.their millions of £ in profit 🙃
In Sweden insurance treats us fairly, in UK they just trying to f** everybody raw.
I'm British, live in Germany will say the insurance system here is unbelievable compared to the UK. So much cheaper also the car is insured and not the driver so anyone can drive your car if its insured
In Europe it's the vehicle not the individual is insured..So they are a lot cheaper and anyone can drive any insured vehicle

My biggest gripe is they ask you how much your car is worth when applying. They then completely ignore that value in the event of a write off. You then have to haggle to try and get anywhere close to market value!
Take it to court if that happens.
The values aren't decided by the insurance companies, they're decided by industry recognised guides and they give you the average top book value minus any deductions
Trade price is different to retail price. Plus they are there to pay out as little as possible for the claim of the car/compensation
@@StevenJenkins-l2i no its fair market value, why would they give you retail price?
@user-ih5ve5vf1t #1 There are regulations to stop them paying you as low as possible called the consumer duty regulations
#2 it's the market value.
It's bananas.
its same in the rest of Europe, buy car insurance and any one can drive it
I live in the Netherlands and we insure the cars, not the driver.
When I lived in Spain you insured the car and anyone with a licence could drive it
@@blackmamba-to3dz I believe that's the case in the most European countries. I don't have a clue why insurance in the UK is so different. It doesn't make sense...why we can't insure 2, 3 or 5 cars using the same NCD on each car. Can't drive more than one car at the same time, etc 🤦🏻♂️

About time someone has raised awareness about bloody car insurance!
Child seat was on the opposite side and untouched - they told us they would send us £200 instantly to buy a new one, they asked/ suggested us to fraudulently claim "was there anything on the seat that got damaged, any electronics a phone or laptop maybe?"
We didn't claim for anything and ironically had to fight them for a decent price for the market value of the car as ours had really low milage yet they where consistently offering us way under the market value.. so they push for extra claims yet want to minimise their offer for your write off..
100% shade corruption across the sector!
they pushed you to ask if you had electronics in the car to act as evidence that you are lying during the claim and thus voiding your insurance.

Mark on top of the youtube game ↖️↖️
Mark, having recently been ripped off 50% of the physio I was awarded, having the car 'written off' rather than being repaired, policy cancellation issue, inflated premiums despite the other party admitting fault throughout, and still waiting for the personal injury payout 18 months later (which is being negotiated down the longer it takes), I wish you every success confronting the government on all this rip off.
Yes, you wish him the success because YOU, as part of the gullible lazy British society, won't do it yourself.
It is just another VAT (Value Added Tax).
so true 🤣 The general public are literally the govs bitch.
You are correct but there is a line, they will eventually cross it and people will get rid of their cars and the government will loose out
the government have friends who need free money . And shares in their friends insurance companies

Signed the petition. Great video covering a serious issue that's only going to get worse if nothing is done about it.
Well said John
The person driving is the risk. Insure the person, as in USA. One policy that covers the person whatever they are driving. After all, multiple cars- you can still only drive one at a time so why have separate policies on every car you own. Change is needed particularly when the requirement is mandatory.
mandatory means optional
19 almost 20 had my license for 6 months and get quoted £6000 on a 1.2 2010 polo. Insurance is a pisstake
No point even owning a car in the first 3 years of getting your licence. They will squeeze every bit of money out of you.
My son 18 first time insurance on a 2014 1.2 polo R £3,333 with two other drivers named on the policy. "You will own nothing and be unhappy" WEF.

This was in my teenage years, I’m in my 30’s now so I don’t need to do as much to bring prices down anymore but they’re still higher than they should be.
my quote was actually cheaper with my own name than with junk letters like abc xyz.
Why would the government bring your insurance cost down?. They earn tax at a percentage, the more you pay, the more the government takes...

If insurance is mandatory, the government must provide insurance if no private companies wants to.
Why should the tax payer underwrite the uninsurable ?

They said and I quote “maybe you should’ve thought before parking there” 😡
Your fault for not developing the ability to see the future pal. Honestly disgusting though.
I was recently hit by a sorned car and the driver admitted to being uninsured, police not interested and insurance company completely incompetent regarding ending the claim.
If insurance is mandatory there should always be at least 1 option to insure your car
@@markplenty2631 that's crazy! I couldn't transfer my plate for 6 months when my last car was stolen. Kinda glad now
Yep. Always get the repairing shops loan car, not the hire car. If you have their car they'll be less likely to pad the job
Love you so much
The govt can’t take down the cost of our shopping, no way they’ll help with insurance premiums.
They can, they can adjust duty for one.
Government gets 10.7% of every premium. They've no reason to reduce premiums.
Yeah. Take Tesco's. Whisky was £19.99 ... one week later it's £28.99. Yet on Amazon it's still £19.99. They price hike wherever and whenever it suits them and no one holds them accountable.
Government have friends who needed free money . And MP have shares in their friends insurance companies.

The UK car insurance industry is obviously corrupt, how in the hell is insurance for a £3k car going to cost £3k a year? That simply isn't fair
It’s about the damage that 3k car can do to others. And healthcare is also insured so it can add up very quickly.
Still unfair though because in most places with comparable wealth it costs less than half of what it would cost in the uk.

I'm convinced the government just wants people off the road, no one under 25 will be able to afford it soon
Good job on exposing this scam and raising awareness towards these subjects
Another thing that should be checked are the number of insurance companies that have taken over accident repair garages and quietly run them.
Write off cars but then repair them and sell them and make even more profit from selling the repaired cars? They falsify the repair costs and labour charges so the insurance company is can then turn round and say oh it’s cost ex amount to repair this car because they’ve already increased the prices and people don’t realise that the insurance companies are running the body shops this has been going on for a number of years at least 25 to 30 years.
It's also already a criminal offense. Fraud.
It's mad how in NZ and Australia the third party is wrapped up in car tax. Just shows how much we're being ripped off.
True but injury only and at around $800 / year it's still not great for car collectors compared to like the US.
My mum got hit by an uninsured driver, person drove away had the plate and stuff. Police basically said they couldn't do anything as they didnt catch them when it happened and the insurer was like we can fix it but it'll affect your insurance. So she ended up having to pay for the repair herself.
